That would be the renowned jazz composer, lyricist, and Basie co-collaborator Frank "Blues in Hoss' Flat" Foster. I have played a lot of his arrangements over the past fifty years, as has the rest of the world. His musical contributions are legendary. Likewise, his role as a husband and father obviously worthy of your tribute. God Bless you and your family. 👑
Incredible...has to make you proud of your dad's contribution to jazz music. This never goes out of style. What a great tribute to your mom. Plus this band do it great justice.
@@blipco5 It means that Alba can just read/sing random names from phone books (which every household in the US used to have in the old days) and it will still sound like heaven. Gotta agree to that comment. Alba has a unique relaxed singing style and her control is absolutely perfect.
Anthony Lenzo - I know what a phone book is. Used to use them all the time, with a dial phone. And sometimes the information lady would scold you if the number was in the book.
Some of the expressions on these young musicians faces during Hamilton's solo just crushed me. They have such a deep appreciation of his expertise. This speaks well of the guidance and devotion they receive.
I'm ready to take a trip to Barcellona just to hear this group play. Joan Chamorro has given these young musicians a love for music that will be with them for the rest of their lives. I'm an old jazzer from the past and have listened to almost all of the famous big bands. These young musicians have a feel for the music far beyond their years and play as well or better than most of the jazz bands that have ever existed. BRAVO TO YOU ALL
Alba, your voice and phrasing are just perfect 👌. You are pure pleasure to listen to. Thank you, Joan, for another beautiful session with your magnificent troop. You bring smiles to us all.
Just discovered this young singer and her friends, where have I been. I was just thinking today that the days of Chet Baker and the Bossa Nova Jazz era was special but sadly gone and the younger generation really missed out Then boom this amazing young singer and all theses talented young people are keeping something incredibly special alive. Today for me the world just became a better place.
I've been watching this video for nearly five years now, and I can't stop to watch it again and again as the performance is so good. Scott Hamilton is memorable and Alba Armengou magnificent. Well done to you all.
Mr. Chamorro: Greetings from America. I am a player and teacher in Long Beach, CA, USA. For many years, I was a disc jockey at radio station KLON (now KJAZZ in Long Beach) A long, long, long, LONG time from now, there is a very special place for you in heaven. Every time you step in front of these kids you make the world a better place. I have a vibraphone next to my computer. Thanks for letting me play with you today! One of my life goals is now to travel to Europe and hear you live. I saw another video where you do "Everything Happens to Me." Matt Dennis. And then the Jobim stuff. What class and elegance.
Thank you Vicente. Note the way that Alba's whole body reacts (and the rest of the band) when the tenor sax comes in behind her around 1:03. It's like they are all dancing! FYI: I played on the same stage with that same tenor player, Scott Hamilton when I was the same age as these kids. I played vibes in the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All-Star Big Band. He was on the program. No, I didn't play with Scott Hamilton, but our band was directed by Thad Jones and Mel Lewis! Trombonist Andy Martin was in that band (we drove up together in my Buick). I remember Thad Jones saying to Andy, "Where did you learn to play so high?" When I watch this I feel like I am 18 again. I know exactly how these kids feel.
Sheer perfection , the Barcelona Talent Factory produces yet another winner ! How could you ever tire of listening to that . These amazing dedicated musicians playing beyond their age .
I love this. My uncles played in the Big Bands . My Uncle Paul played with the Raymond Scott Band on America’s Hit Parade and my other Uncle played Bass with Sinatra. Listening to my Uncles talk forever made me love Jazz. Joan what you have done with these young musicians is magic. From Motis, Payes, Armengou and countless others their vocals and their instrumental improvs are elegant and sophisticated.
I am 73 years young now and played various saxes, clarinet and electronic wind instrument in numerous bands over my lifetime. I am in total awe of the kids Joan Chamorro brings through. They are just way beyond anything I ever achieved musically and I have over the years played on the same bill as many jazz greats including Acker Bilk, Chris Barber, Kenny Ball, Dutch Swing College and others. Just wonderful!
I definitely declare myself a fan of Alba. I think she's a great talent and she'll become a great jazz singer. Great voice and, musically speaking, great charm. Continue to make her grow. I've only been listening to jazz for 36 years
Joan Chamorro ! You are the world's best jazz teacher and one of the best modern jazz musicians. The results you get from your students truly blow my mind. Thank you so much brother for doing what you do !! And I can't thank your beautiful musicians enough !! You make my depressing life worth living and I'm not trying to flatter, I say all this from the heart just like you and your students play your music.
😂 The transformation on the faces of the band starting at the 1 minute mark is priceless! The kids are just kinda waiting for their part then the sax starts playing and all the kids go into happy head bobbing is priceless!
This is excellent! I love Alba's singing, the rhythm section has superb forward motion and swing, and the pianist is really special! Joan, you really have gotten amazing results from these fine young musicians. This is one of my favorites!
this is so perfect...the sax section is unimaginably tight...the piano fills are exquisite...Carla is indispensable...the the guest pro (Scott) seems inspired by all of these young musicians, as they are inspired by him (just look at their faces when he comes in)...What a treat!
Perfect Alba - she really has the perfect voice and phrasing for this wonderful Count Basie favourite! And her interpretation of Triste and all those Jobim numbers is so amazing. Joan Chamorro - I don't know how you manage to cultivate and encourage such superb talent at San Andreu.
Wonderful adaptation of the original arrangement very nicely played and sung -- love the rhythm guitarist. I hope she realizes how much she is part of a great tradition and how important her role is.
As a Basie fanatic, it's lovely how close you sound to early Basie and even the Second Incarnation. Man, Scott is a combination of Lester and Herschel. It is really crazy to hear Mr. Hamilton sound almost exactly like Lester Young in 1938 recordings. This is simply sublime.
Joan, it is such a delight to see you and Scott developing these youngsters into great musicians. The sound of your young band is as good as any professional outfit. The smile on the faces of your young musicians during this audition shows satisfaction with their own creation - a very strong motivating factor. Keeps an old guy like me (in my 70's) very happy to see.
It must gladden the older gentleman's (Scott Hamilton?) heart to be playing with so many talented young people. Every one of them was totally lost in the music. Everyone in this video has plenty to be proud of.
Another amazing video by SAJB!!! Alba is stellar!! At only 17? Unbelievable! I love Jan’s sensitive piano and the bands professionalism ! Fantastic!! Thank you Joan! You are genius!
I just recently discovered Joan Chamorro and Alba, and I immediately fell in love! This type of jazz music warms my soul. I guess this means I have to go back to Barcelona and hear you guys in person!
Joan, that was a fabulous arrangement and stunning performance. Congratulations to everyone: Scott for his smooth solo; Alba for her beautiful voice and diction; Jan for his conversation with the singer, band and wonderful minimalistic solo; Carla, Miguel and Pablo for their steady rhythm; the saxophones, trumpets and trombones for silky harmony, punctuation and expression - totally appropriate and heartwarming. Special thank you too, to Scott and Miguel for singing along in the final section to add emphasis - Ba, Ba, -, Ba / B_a, B_a / ............. Exceptional. Thank you.
She sing with such confidence and ease, it's like she has been at this for many many years.... I'm very lucky to be able to enjoy these great kids. Joan is bringing back the art of music to life again.......Words don't quite cover it....... Thanks Joan
Thanks to Joan Chamorro for dedicating himself to jazz music and promoting these young boys & girls beyond the scene, enabling them to express their amazing talent and gifts. The selected tunes and the recording are also just great. What else to say apart from "bravo" & best wishes to all!
This is such a joy to watch. All these talented, young people who really enjoy this swinging session, nodding their heads and smiling while listening to the solo's... Just beautiful!
I am a fan of Scott Hamilton for more than 35 years, I think it is great to find Scott Hamilton here now playing with and teaching Spanish kids who want to learn to play jazz music, they will learn from the best!
Joao gave them EVERYTHING, I've never seen a group like he had established a few years ago, at that age, with even six and seven year olds, play like they played, not in America, (and I'm an educator as well, and a friend of Clarence Acox, who took the top National award for high school jazz band [Garfield High] every year it seemed) and Joan teaches them by ROTE (like a typical black gospel choir is taught in USA) - although I see them more with sheet music now, that was not always the case, and that would be, in my estimation, why they are so very good, he taught them how to HEAR first, not just read. I'm an American, and a fan of Scott Hamilton, he's tops, but don't, please, try to diminish what Joao has done, it is astounding. They would be tops without ANY outside help, though it's not a bad thing.

One of my Dad's favorite Basie tunes. Great job by everyone, but a big tip of the hat to the pianist. Not many can play in the Bill Basie style as well as you did. Very tasty!
She is incredible.......she has the voice of a 45 year old woman.......Im completely blown away by her and Andrea Motis.......Collectively the whole band is awesome
First to last note absolutely flawless, Alba so good, Scott my favorite sax man, Jan terrific, arrangement and direccion...perfeccion!! as well as the whole band who looked like Scott's intro took everyone for a ride. Sorry, I get a bit euphoric with music that good. Another office day here, my least favorite, but seems like a great day now. Thanks for the lift Joan and young folks...love from Massachusetts.

How beautiful is it to hear Alba, then Scott, then the band rising to a wonderful tutti. Scott plays like a breeze through the wine - I listen and enjoy, eyes closed. After 3:40, I stir and have to look who's playing - Jan! with the coolest of solos, melodies trickling over the rim of the grand in all colours. Bravo!!
You can be proud of yourself, the arrangements are worthy of the greatest jazzmen of the 30's/40's, and you're lucky to have a young singer blessed with love and gold. Thanks a million !

More swing than swinging thing ! . Oh ! and a voice sweeter than honey . Beautiful .
There is a very good reason why so many world class jazz musicians come to play with these young kids. Listen and see if you can figure it out.
Great tribute to the "Count", on a perfect rendition, with extraordinary talent gifted young musicians, and an "earth angel" on vocals.

Love Alba's on-point vocals. Beautiful voice, beautiful young woman; she deserves and needs a larger stage.
Absolutely!

I'm almost moved to tears in seeing such a beautiful and young ensemble: truly a great work!!!

Scott Hamilton, 69 years of talent playing with the kids.
