For me, the one thing that Sootch's videos stand outs and is superior to other gun reviewers is that he goes into an educational depth that helps those who have never been accustomed to certain guns. Most reviewers will talk about the gun and shoot it but Sootch goes beyond that to show every detail of the firearm with great close ups and explanations. Thank you Sootch for your in depth reviews. Even though I won't purchase this weapon, I learned so much about it.

I own the Marlin Guide Gun .45-70 govt stainless 4+1 and love this gun. I take it often when I walk with my dog in the woods to protect him and me from coyote, hog, and bear. My favorite gun for hiking because I know it will stop a train.

Stop a train you say the 45-70 will do ?
You've brainwashed by these stupid and ignorant videos.
If you think the 45-70 is so powerful to blow up trains, then what do you think the Winchester Model 70 in 458 Lott can do that I own ?

We are in deep doo doo.

You must be a 90-pound wimp to think a 450 Marlin has bad recoil.
Take my advice then never shot these rifles I own one being a Weatherby Mark 5 ultra-light - 300 Wby mag and a Winchester Model 70 - 458 Lott.
Even the AR 10 I chambered in 375 -300 WSM would hurt you I have to presume.

Sootch when I look at a Winchester or Marlin lever action rifle I am absolutely amazed by the mechanical function because it is unlike any other weapon that we've ever created. If I were lost in the wilderness it would be my first choice for survival. Because if I'm confronted by a bear I have the confidence that that gun will work and that bear will go down. But of course it's a bear walks away I'll walk away too. Out of respect for nature. I always love watching your videos Bud you've given me a lot of useful information and may God bless you and yours always!

That's cool that you can finally get a Skinner Peep Sight from the factory. There's nothing wrong with a buckhorn sight. However, there are those of us who learned to shoot with peep sights & those who simply prefer them. That's a beautiful rifle.
My understanding is the birdshot load was a .410 shot shell. I think that's what the .410 was originally developed for. I think you could only use the .410 shot shell in the Trapdoor Springfield. IIRC, the Army eventually sent .410 shotguns to the units stationed in the western forts...again...for foraging.

This rifle has lots of power th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL , hard recoil and a little heavier than expected which affects accuracy, especially when firing freehand or hunting small game. Really rough on sites, as it often moves inside mounting rings. Replaced sight with a UTG Bugbuster, which required medium height mounting rings, but improved accuracy while sighting in as shown in attached photo, at 20 yards using Gamo Match Diablo pellets at 7.56 grain. Nonetheless, I am still trying to figure out where to install the mounting rings on the scope to avoid it from sliding around, as it becomes misaligned after about 50 or 60 shots. Currently considering using heavier pellets at about 9 grain with different tips like the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme or the Crosman Ultra Magnum to see if accuracy improves. Overall, I am having lots of fun with this rifle.

I loved Marlin rifles before Remington ruined them. I have a Remington made 336 in 30-30, and I got lucky because it's not a bad gun. My first Marlin, though, was a 30AW in 30-30 I got back in the 80's. It was a tack driver at 100 yards. I sold it and the rest of my guns when I got orders to England in 1996 because I couldn't take them with me, and I regret that very much. I've always been interested in the 45-70, so this looks like something I could possibly look at in the future.

I too have a remlin 336 in 30-30. Bought it at walmart for 350 dollars. I decoded it, manufactured in 2016. Bought in 2019 Quality is pretty darn good.

Fun to reload and shoot powderpuff loads with lead boolits!

If I recall: this is used by many Alaska hunting guides. When your "Client" just wounds a big bear and you need to get into the thickets to put it down!
Obviously not everyone's cup of tea. But it will certainly do the job. It's also used on big Moose in the brush too!

Great review. I do my own hand loads for these. This will stop a T Rex. Love this gun

I just noticed the trapper rear sight allows the entire sight to be moved for windage instead of the insert normally found on skinners.

I have a 5 year old remlin that's seems to be a pretty good one. Done quite a few little things to it. However I'm gonna sell it and get the ruger made if I can ever find one.

My son and i just got our trappers three weeks ago and upon close inspection at home I noticed that the bolt is hitting the hammer spur which does not on my sons rifle, also there is a gap that will fit a penny between the hand guard and hand guard cap.

Hi Don, can you do a review on the 2020 4.25 inch colt python. It’s my favorite .357 magnum revolver.

Scootch, I just purchased a trapper yesterday. Correction: There is no scope mount. What your pointing to is the mount that the Skinner sight is mounted on. I guess If I am going to mount a scope or dot sight, I will have to purchase a system that allows for it. Please let your fans know this.
    Regards
    Abe
