For almost the entire length of the Atlantis show I kept asking myself, "When the hell are they gonna find the one room in that city-ship that holds the device that manufactures new ZPMs?" There's gotta be some machine or facility that pumps those things out. They don't grow on trees. The Ancients had to have something that made more of them.

In the comics they made a mark 12 naquadah power generator producing enough power to power Atlantis, the shields and drone chair to use so there's no reason to make zpm and they can easily get there hands on liquid naquadah from all staff weapons from Gau'ld , one vile of can power a city or Stargate , if I stargate command I would of collected all the naquadah cores from the dead gau'ld soldiers that they killed and earth would have a huge energy source and can make more spaceships lol

Even in an alternative timeline a mark 12 was able to power the shield for 800 years and this was after some level of dormant state of 48000 years
And in the comic a mark 4 could almost power the whole city in gateways

For the greater part, every advancement in the shows is earned. You can trace every piece of tech on the Tau'ri ships back to individual episodes. So, you wouldn't find something like this. Had the 3rd series not been loathed by the petulant children in the fandom and the scummy SiFi, maybe, maybe we would've gotten a clue about the creation of ZPMs. The closest we got was with the Asurans.

There was actually an episode where they found this room, rodney was experimenting with it, but it'd have meant that they'd destroy another alternate Universe(thats where alternate reality Atlantis team appeared), so they stopped doing that.

It's also *not a ZPM.* We literally _see_ O'Niell fuel it with Naquada from a captured staff weapon. Considering they watched him build it they could build as many as they wanted *except* that they couldn't even get the original running until the Two Carter's had the know-how to "measure the decay rate of Naquada".
This further confirms it's the _first Naquada generator they got their hands on_ AND tells us they could duplicate the gate booster any time they wanted. Makes it pretty odd they never chose to build thousands of "lower quality ZPM" if it ever was a ZPM which we know it's not.
Dude managed to make a mistake that bad in a three minute vid? It's a shame he still hasn't fixed it.

    • @user-tp5yb4hr4w
      @user-tp5yb4hr4w 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

i actually didn't know that the device jack built was mirrored after the ZPM design, i just thought he was creating an inverter that could use the staff weapon's power source and apply it to be used to open the wormhole outside of the milky way to the asgard home world.
the weird thing about this is it took an entire planet as a power source to dial the 9th and final chevron to gate to Destany, the planet was used as a power source with an almost unlimited potential for energy to gate to the Destiny.
i can't really think of a reason why they needed an entire planet to power one gate to the destiny, unless they intended to travel to the Destiny as an entire race all at once or something.
oh wait, maybe this is how the SGU gates operate, before the gates were upgraded to run with Naquadah on demand, it's possible that they were powered by the planet's core they occupied, i mean it makes sense does it not?
the destiny works like this when it comes down to recharging it's own engines as well as powering it's stargate, so it only makes sense this is how the first stargates were powered.
but the gate that's tied into that planet that was destroyed, wasn't the old design gate, it was the second version, which means there was a reason why they chose this model instead of the other version.
it could be that this gate was upgraded to handle much more distance and also that it's design was more capable of making the connection that all the rest simply could not. i mean we know that the older style gates were limited to how far they could be used within the solar system that they occupied, so it only makes sense that they installed this one instead.

I dont think so. Maybe at one time. But their war with the wraith would have changed that. Stopping them from getting ZPMs would have become a priority, and all production of these devices would have been done in a few key places. Haveing a facility on the city would have compromised it no end. It similar thinking to why they never equipped their war ships with hyperdrives capable of intergalactic travel as standard. And why even though aurora class war ships had the capacity to hold a ZPM we never see one equipped with a ZPM. Again, a precaution against the ships being captured and the ZPMs being stolen. There will be a facility out there somewhere where production of ZPMs takes place. And I also dont think they are as "easy" too produce as people seem to think.

One answer to a question that gets asked a lot is why the Atlantis team never found a ZPM manufacturing site. I think a really cool answer to this might be that ZPMs took a long freaking time to make. If manufacturing even 1 took upwards of 10 years or so that would explain how the Wraith were able to overtake such a technologically advanced enemy.
Being overconfident the Ancients may have expended a large number of their ZPMs in the beginning of the war not being used to the nature of war. Then one realizing the size of the Wraith fleet being unable to easily produce more ZPMs in a given time.
I always like to remember that Ancients tended to operate on timescales much larger than we're used to. What if a fully functioning ZPM took 1000 years to create?

    • @OriginalMokthol
      @OriginalMokthol หลายเดือนก่อน

It would make sense that they would take a while to make. Following the idea that they take a long time to create, it's possible they're grown. Obviously not in a way implying that they occur naturally, but that part of the process involves creating a starting point and placing them in a specifically fashioned environment that would allow them to "grow". It might also help explain the natural-esk and non-uniform shapes.

What the video says is that the Z.P.M.'s power output was bolstered by the generators - not that they were used to bolster the shields specifically. (There's a bit of dialogue in "Rising" about the fact that the generators wouldn't come close to powering the shields on their own, but that's about as specific as it got.)

I alway thought that there was some efficiency issues with a ZPM. That while there are vast amounts of energy in a ZPM you can only efficiently extract it a little at a time. That’s why they are used in tandem. To extract a large amount of energy all at once from a single ZPM means you would only get a fraction of the potential energy inside. Like with any device, you push it too hard to it’s performance limits and it’s life expectancy will be drastically cut short. That would explain how single ZPMs seem to be like dollar store batteries, dying in no time flat, but when used in tandem they will last for thousands of years.

maybe they do grow, maybe not on trees, but maybe they grow in caves. the tokra had this tech that was designed to grow caves while using crystals, and the goa'uld used crystals to control their ships, and the Alteran used crystals for all kinds of things, anything from control crystals to crystals infused with power to run their tech, even the DHD had crystals and there were multiple each used for another purpose, we saw crystals used in ring transporters and we saw them in ships.
so it's even possible that that the crystals that are made up with the ZPM's are used for different purposes other than just power source.
when you look at a powered ZPM you see multiple colored crystals fused with other crystals that form the ZPM structure, maybe only a few hold power and the rest are used as control crystals that do other functions within conjunction of them all working together creates the final product in how they work.
Anubis for example was at one point after a crystal that was red looking, it was kind of small and it originally belonged to the goa'uld Ra and was found within the Abydos pyramid structure hidden away because it held great power within conjunction of other crystals.
and when these other crystals were joined by Anubis, they were not only used to power his ships main weapon, but it was used to also protect his ship from any attack from other ships who challenged his power.
it's funny to think that the knowledge that the goa'uld and the Tokra have, when it comes to the creation of these crystals could be used to create a ZPM, but to charge them is another story, however it's possible they don't need to be powered by Zero Point Energy at all, because Anubis didn't have a ZPM to power his ship, but he had other power sources being used within conjunction of these crystals, if you recall him being very interested in Naquadria which was a much more unstable but much more powerful source than Naquadah.
he just needed to learn how to use this power source and get passed it's instabilities in order to use it as an beneficial source to up the game on making him much more powerful than any of the system lords who weren't on his side.
so maybe a ZPM doesn't need Zero Point Energy to be used, but they do need to figure out how to charge them.
like i know Rodney destroyed that recharge station, so it's not like they can go there and get their ZPM's recharged, but they can always use another source of power to get things done.

he probably did try but the easy search took too much power and they would need to understand which they don't because as they say it will take a lifetime or two to go through it
also doesn't help they need to decipher it as well, it to the point where even with advanced data storage they could only take 10% of the deciphered stuff with them if they needed to leave let alone all the none deciphered stuff
it like a caveman getting access to the internet and being asked make a nuclear power plant(or whatever the new not fully understood tech is because zero point extraction was something they were still working on)
as a matter of fact the database does contain the ZPM research but they don't understand said research same with sheild, ascension and weapons research
also information on every planet with a stargate in both milky way and Pegasus and so much more
there the plans for Atlantis and so much more as well

“Millions of years”. Every time that number came up I can just imagine the writers kicking themselves for being tied to it. • @GateWorldDotNet
      @GateWorldDotNet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I largely agree that the scale is too big for most of what the writers ended up doing with it. It allows enough time for things like biological evolution (the Wraith, seeded human civilizations, etc.), and for the Ancients to have had multiple empires that are long since gone. But it's a whole lot of empty space on the timeline.
The movie toyed with the age of the gate being somewhere around 10,000 years, which seems more realistic. But, on the other hand, that timeline doesn't give the writers nearly enough wiggle room if that's when the Ancients were running around putting up Stargates to begin with.

    • @matt4812
      @matt4812 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yep! Stargates and Atlantis and Asurans are technology so you need to be on the thousands scale, but ascension and wraith evolution are biology so you need to be on the millions scale. It’s an unfortunate corner we’ve been written into.

Maybe that’s the beauty of the whole thing… What the next series needs to explore. For instance, did you know the following?
The Ancients stopped producing ZPMs. For security reasons, they had much bigger fish to fry. ZPM production methods were solely entrusted to the Furlings.
And after the fifth race had defeated the ascended Ori, (no small feat) the ascended Ancients had made contact with the Furlings once more, asking them to return to the Milky Way for the purpose of assisting the Humans.
Furlings agree. And they just so happen to pick up the crew of the Destiny along the way to Earth.... where they share their knowledge with Mankind.
But unannounced to our heroes, Furlings have been charged with a second mission. Judge mankind.
Because it would seem, the humans have the ability to wipe out ascended beings from the Milky Way universe as well.
And the Furlings must either guide Mankind in all moral and ethical decisions… Or destroy them.

The fact that Atlantis used 3 ZPMs is rather telling. On the one hand, it tells us that 1 ZPM was not enough. These devices, while powerful, had limits. On the other hand, it tells us that the Lanteans didn't use more. More is more, so why not 4, or 10, or 100 ZPMs? I think the answer to that is because there is a limit to how much energy Lantean technology can utilize.
We see in The Return that the crew of the Tria are able to access systems of Atlantis that the expedition didn't even know existed. I think this is partly due to superior Ancient Technology Activation Genes, but also some other mysteries of the Ancients. So I think it's likely that there are manufactories for ZPMs and other essentials that Atlantis needs, but they aren't obvious to the expedition. The Lanteans only had 3 ZPMs in Atlantis at a time because that was how much Atlantis needed. They only had so many drones and puddle jumpers because that was how much Atlantis needed. They probably took more ZPMs, drones, and puddle jumpers with them than they left behind, only to destroy them before ascending (or leave them in convenient hidden locations for SG crew to discover).

    stargate.fandom.com/wiki/Oberoth
The Asurans were humanoid replicators who were created by the original Atlanteans before they ascended and greatly wished to join them.

-->>and if they were bolder, they shouldve gone further and make themselves their own replicator army - remember - Asurans were replicators yes, but they still had regular updates with their central data core located on their homeworld - if placed on Atlantis, it would provide perfect control through regular updates and enabling to perform code corrections if need be, could be performed in real time even while their replicator fleet/army cleanses the galaxy of the wraith.

it's possible they could do this, but we never got that far into the show to know if it was possible.
if i was one of these Alteran scientists, i would make it so Atlantis could not only protect the city from energy attacks, but would also built a way for the ship to absorb energy blasts to recharge the ZPM's.
i mean their older tech had this ability, the Destiny could fly closely through a star and absorb the stars heat to recharge it's power reserves and weapons, and it seemed to keep enough power in it's reserves just to protect the ship and it's inhabitants from being in the star while being charged at the same time.
the shields were on while it charged, protecting the ppl on the ship as well as protecting the ship while it charged. a very efficient and elegant design might i add.
so they had the capability as it existed in previous tech, and it's possible they had an more efficient way of implementing it, everything the Alterans did, they always upgraded on.
it's just to bad they didn't make it an automatic feature when the ZPM's were running low to switch to not only protect the city, but to also recharge the city.
i guess the only issue they might run into with that is the overburdening of certain systems running within Atlantis could break down if put under enough stress.

It makes no sense why They never found out how to make these I mean literally the very 1st episode of Atlantis Jack oneill gave the go ahead cause thought that there might be more of the zpm in Atlantis. Weir even at 1 point says that they know exactly where the information on the zpm is in the ancient database. Literally having a power source like a zpm would have solved so many issues not only Atlantis but on Earth is well and would have made Earth basically a powerhouse. So even though that was one of the main focuses for them even going to Atlantis it makes no sense that after 5 years of them being Atlantis they never found out how to make these I mean they even tried stuff that were even more complicated and more powerfulThen the ZPMMultiple time so I don't see why they would at least try to make ZPM.

@@summoner2100 that is not how zpm was made. they were pulling zero point energy from our own universe with project acturus which was suppose to be equivalent to the energy of 12 zpms. zpms pull their energy from a acritical region of subspace. it was a method that even the ancients abonded because it caused exotic particles to form that messed with the reality the energy it was pulled from. ZPMs should of been a easier thing to make by comparison. since mckay refers to this project as the ancients last big discovery and make zpms look like akaline batteries is what he says. Those two episodes evolving that are so stupid cause as we see the ZPMs already are more energy then we need and they should be able to make as many as they want. i mean 3 zpms working one at a time being switched out over 10,000 years was enough to keep the sheild up around atlantis from the ocean. like only one of them would probably been required per city on earth and they would probably last for 100 years too even if they had to swap them out every year or so that still would better alternative. so yah they really had no reason not make zpms, goauld power cores, or even asgard power cores they had more then enough information to do either of those to get the power earth needs and that power could of been used for ships too

Also the reason is that the gates don't have specific addresses they use the location for their address so it would make sense that the newer gate would take president over an older version.

Zero Point energy is a real-world thing. There are blueprints online to build a device that captures ambient energy with varying degrees of success. Nothing powerful enough to charge a ZPM though.

      Zed Point Module?
No. A million no. You're mixing phrases.
      It's ZPM
      Zero
      Point
      Module
Zed is a phoenetic expression of Z outside the US (Zed as apposed to Zee)
Say whichever way you want, but I would suggest you don't mix phrases in a way that makes you look ignorant.

2:30 bs the staff device version you talk about worked twice not once it just needed to be reconfigured after use to work again that was all that was needed to get it working again have you not watched Stargate sg1 at all Gateworld to shame to shame for not knowing stargate sg1 that well and spouting non sense about a topic you obviously spend 5 minutes watching and researching watch this youtube video for this episode S3E6 - Point of View had that very situation used to call the asguard as part of that plan to work and get the asguard to save the sgc how you can say it's burnt out after one use when it was reactivated in this episode S3E6 - Point of View to save the SGC from the gould

That was a waste of a perfectly good explanation.
