    Pinocchio Story is a live recording of a freestyle type song (I think in the graduation tour) right after his mother died, He wasn't going to add it to the album but Beyonce basically forced him to. The extra power of the song is the fact that the crowd isn't paying attention and just screaming whilst he explains the struggles that fame have brought. That is my favourite song on the album and one of my favourite Kanye songs even though its not something you can play all the time because of its emotional strength and raw exposure.

  • @furness7648
    @furness7648 2 ปีที่แล้ว +160

    the fact that your dad in "say you will"understood the outro and thought it was needed in the song is so nice to see. alot of people are ignorant and disregard it straight away. i know this is about to be such a good reaction.

  • @Nr4747

    Pinoccio's Story is hauntingly beautiful without even knowing the full context in which it was performed live here: This was only a relatively short time after Kanye's mother, who he was very close with, had passed away due to complications after a plastic surgery procedure. Kanye blamed himself heavily for her death because she had a heart condition and a lot of doctors were unwilling to operate on her due to that complication risk, but Kayne made it happen for her anyway. With that knowledge, listening to this song always makes me cry because my mother means the world to me aswell.

  • @xavvi
    @xavvi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    Coldest Winter is a sample/interpolation of Memories Fade by Tears for Fears, proving that Kanye was there to reinvent the 80s well before the late 2010s/early 2020s trend of doing. Knowing that it's about his mom makes it so much sadder.

    I think this is clearly the first album from Kanye where the notion of “every Kanye album is different” really dawns on a first listener such as the dad. Being a first listener and hearing the graduation trilogy, it’s harder to notice Kanye’s diversity yet. The first two were similar and graduation was obv different but it felt like a logical attempt of commercial music. It’s still noticeably different but it just sounded almost like Kanye adding more synths, dance, and catchy hooks to his already established style. His fourth album 808s hits a point where you really notice a left turn in his music. Then he keeps hitting left turns with musical direction and still makes quality everytime! After your finish his catalog, in hindsight you’ll look back and realize how insanely creative, diverse and versatile his discography is. There’s only 2 albums that sound similar in his 11 album run: TCD & LR.

    • @axelmartinez3540
      @axelmartinez3540 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      i see where you’re coming from saying that the only albums that sound similar are LR and TCD, but i personally don’t think they sound very similar at all. TCD was very drum, bass and sample heavy whereas LR while also having great drum beats and samples, is extremely orchestral with horns and pianos and very heavy bass with more progression than TCD. can’t tell me any song on dropout sounds like we major or roses or touch the sky. while it might not be as experimental as his other projects, i wouldn’t say they sound similar

    • @axelmartinez3540
      @axelmartinez3540 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      so basically what i’m saying is no matter what you’re getting a very different and unique experience no matter what u listen to from him. because although the college trilogy may be very similar at least in subject matter and vibe, like i said i don’t really think any of them sound the same

    • @BradyR95
      @BradyR95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@axelmartinez3540 different sound for sure, but similar to the level that you might expect an artist to progress. Even graduation somewhat fits that mold. After that it goes off the rails, lol

    This album is one I didn't pay too much attention to previously. Going back to it, it might just be his most influential to the hip hop landscape as a whole. In addition, I personally love most of the minimalist sounds on it, and think I gave it a hard time which it didn't deserve. Great album, and undoubtedly crucial to Kanyes discography!

    This is my personal all time favorite Kanye album. It's the one i remember the most when i was younger, and I was 9 years old when this album came out. I remember listening to it in the car with my sisters all winter of 2008-2009. Cold mornings on the way to school. This album just reminds me of winter weather alot (obvious why) and just has alot of nostalgia for me, and honestly whenever i listen to this album it brings me back to that time, and makes me sad.

    Great video! Idk who the best artist of all time is , but Kanye is my favorite artist of all time. For me, 808s is kinda like the beginning of the most interesting part of his arc as a person and artist. The college trilogy has alot of great songs but it's more exciting to me to hear his story evolve from 808s through Donda.
    For example ,his next album after 808s is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy where he kinda gets lost in a celebrity fantasy world , Yeezus, he's totally lost in a character, Pablo he's switching back and forth, Ye, he's starting to figure out who he is, then JIK he rediscovers religion and Donda ends with him seemingly coming more to terms and accepting religion again and acknowledhing his mom etc. Will definitely be watching as you guys unravel the artist journey of Kanye.
