    You should DEFINITELY document your studio build and talk through your process - like you said its a rabbit hole and it would be ace to get your distilled view on what works for you

    I got the spec tempus, colourbox V2, spaceman Titan, Xotic wah, Palisades, and Keeley comp pro on my travel board with enough room for either the hx or pog2. I'm loving the flexibility/ portability coming from a large es8 board. We have a lot of pedal choices in common, love the channel!

      Also, how do you like the infinity 2? I have the original that I wish I could always have on my board. Can it tempo sync?

    Great minds man. Just got my novo 24 laid out and cabled for a woodshed session tomorrow with a new project, and saw you just posted this. Building some electronic live drum and bass /noise rock sounds. Dig the mini board Cheers

    Great, a new Janek video and I'm late - damn. For a very neutral clean sound, the lehle sunday driver is great. The version without the footswitch would fit under the board. Have not tried it as a DI box yet but I use it as a preamp option. Love fromVienna

    I would love a video on what you do to make the acoustics better in your new studio! Good acoustics is something that we are trying to achieve as a starting band! 😊 Would love to see your process, thoughts and techniques.

    I had that same pearl octaver back in the early 80’s but didn’t really use it so sold it to a guitarist friend (Del Bromham from Stray), often wished I’d kept it

    Awesome video! I recently got an HX stomp and it came with a one spot adaptor rather than the typical power source, super cool and convenient in theory but I'm getting a lot of noise and I think it's due to the different currents in the power source. How do you power your boards? Is there a separate plug specifically for the HX stomp? Maybe this power thing could be a cool short video idea, since it seems to heavily effect the clarity of sound.

    Could you take the back plate off of the Teletronix, flip it over, then reattach and put the Duo-Lock on the "inside" of the back plate?

    I can imagine that JHS might be able to build you a custom Colour Box V2 (or rehouse one) a bit closer to your spatial specs for the ‘mini board’...
    They just might like the challenge..., they’re JHS!
    Or, build you one without the actual DI in the unit itself (to save space). One you can easily use with any passive quality (stereo?) DI, like a Radial. The size might just be like the Colour Box V1, or even smaller.
    (Radial makes a great passive Stereo Pro DI, wich is the same size and build quality as the famous JDI but with double in/out/XLR’s. At least the same quality as the DI in the Colour Box. No Jensen transformer in this Pro DI like in the JDI, but nevertheless a very good one. Good enough for live use, where you don’t really need the Jensen.)
    I would not use the Colour Box on a small board myself and fly around the world. I’d bring something small you can get anywhere or even bring one extra as a spare. Like the MXR. Great little indestructible pedal!!
    Just thinking with you here...🤓😄
    🖖

    Have you considered a portable power source? Milwaukee M18 Topoff has an AC Inverter and may beable to power your travel rig in case you come across shotty stage wiring like previous fiasco.

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That could be an option, but unfortunately the shoddy wiring also affected the amp in the most recent situations I found myself in. So the pedalboard could be running clean as a whistle, and I'd still be getting a horrific ground hum from the amp which was what happen in Zhuhai in China a few weeks ago.

    Nice! I just assembled a small board for "outdoor" gigs, as opposed to my goddamn aircraft carrier. Funny how it's mostly different levels of grit and pitch shifting....

    Have you tried Temple boards? It can be a pain to set up but they are not going anywhere once it’s on.

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've seen a bunch of them before, but I'm not crazy about that proprietary locking system. At the end of the day, each lock is still held onto each pedal by an adhesive pad, which is the common point of failure on any pedalboard.

  • @Dax_Smith

    You do so much experimentation with pedals and your sound, have you gone through a period where you tried out different pre-amps or pickups in your bass to find a sound? Do you keep all the boxes the pedals came in?

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have totally experimented with pre amps in basses as well as pickup combinations before. I'm actually right in the middle of doing exactly that for a very unique custom build that's in production at Mattisson basses in Sweden.
      I do keep all the boxes my pedals came in. Now... 🤦‍♀️
      For the longest time I didn't , and I have probably thrown away $10k just in boxes when you factor in how much resale value they add to pedals, especially vintage ones. I've owned somewhere between 500-600 pedals over my career, with around 300 in the current library, and have probably 180+ boxes to go with them.

    Janek, I'm on the fence with the stomp. Is it still worth to invest into the stomp (xl) considering the tech is from 2018? Rumors spreading that line 6 will release a helix 2 as that is almost 10 years old.

      at the end of the day it’s all about making pretty sounds for music today. not sure if my advice is worth anything, but choosing the ‘real today thing’ is always better than the ‘maybe tomorrow thing’. partly for already existing, and partly for existing resources like tutorials and presets. it’s worth what the market says, and music gear is a market where good stuff holds its resale. optimize for today’s music!

      I was fortunate to have a stomp xl become available to me recently. Here's my thoughts:
      I don't regret getting it and I would get it again. It sounds great and is easy to use. Think of it as the ultimate effect machine. So, you're still going to need external pedals to accompany it. The stomp itself would be good enough if I was just playing bass with it. I plan on recording other stuff that requires an expanded/larger bank of effects. All in all, worth it and an amazing tool.

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      For the access to basically some version of every pedal that's ever existed, I think it could be 50% more expensive and still be worth the investment. Not only is it a solid piece of hardware that has never failed me on tour, but it's constantly being updated with new sounds.
      Could there be a new device from Line6 on the horizon? 100%. I have no inside contact that has told me that, I just figure the company isn't going out of business, and a good business is always going to make new products. Now, is that in 6 months? 2 years? who knows?
      All I can do is deal with today and let the future come to me when it's time.
      The XL adds a lot of access with the added foot switches and alternative display options on-screen, but since I have the Helauxy Duo from Pedalnetics, I have access to FS4/FS5 on the regular size stomp and it only cost me $59 for the upgrade.
      I'm not being paid by either Pedalnetics or Line6 to say any of this. I simply use these products on a daily basis and can recommend them based 100% on experience.

      It is, but it's also amazingly well built, and I definitely didn't buy them as a museum piece. Maybe, since I have two of them now, I dedicate one to the studio only, and use the second for the road?
      Either way, I have no doubts about the robustness of the unit.
