    It's 5/8/2020. Just put tires on my 76 Super Glide, I'm 66 and since 1978 I'm still twisting the throttle on it. One motor rebuild, SS carb, Quick Bob tank for distance, fourth paint job.

    Hey Todd,My first Shovel was a "77" Superglide.I still think the Superglide Tank is the best looking Harley Tank Ever & Kept the Original tank from that BIke.When my son was born I mounted a bedside light in the Fuel Cap hole & it still sits beside his bed today 15 years later.NIce Bike Man!

    Brings back memories. I remember looking at that model new at the dealer and swearing that I’d never spend that much money on a motorcycle. My 2009 ultra cost me $21,000. Ugh, what is wrong with me.

    Nice to see another shovel that got some love. Trying to see clearly, looks like your frame is missing the two hole tab up front. It should be on the outer game tube in line with the lower motor mount crossbar. Might have been cut? My former ‘79 FXEF had them and my
    1976 FXE has them and the highway pegs mount nicely there. If your frame & engine #’s match - they were likely cut off. Whomever bought after this video prob had no clue.

    This was the Bike I wanted when I was a Teen... I loved the XL's & the FXE Super Glide's, Fat Bob's, Wide Glide's, & Low-Rider's... Those are still my favorite types of Bikes to ride... They became the FXR's and FXD's. I owned three of those and I loved them all... Nice old 1200... Peace, Stiletto :)

      not in the same to the same degree. Here in Cali, no helmet law, prior to 86 when I started selling bikes into Hollywood, bikers were a rare thing. Girls would be leaning out of car windows screaming take me for a ride. if you didn't have a hottie on the back in an hour it was a bad day or you were WAY OUT of town! By 1987, girls would be, your the 100th guy to ask ME for a ride in an hour! All because of my selling FLH's into Hollywood making them trendy. Then the helmet law came out. When that happened here, you might as well leave the bike home if you wanted to met a hottie.

    One recall on the 76 models, front caliper bolts were replaced.

    • @dwaynegoforth3246
      @dwaynegoforth3246 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A short time later another recall for front and rear brakes. Missing return spring rings to back the brake pads away from the disks. The rear brakes would overheat and boil the fluid which would build up pressure until near lockup. Disks would turn purple.

    • @lostsoul3154
      @lostsoul3154 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dwaynegoforth3246 I did have an overheating problem with the back caliper sticking. They made something like a hockey puck to put inside the piston, which supposedly absorbed heat.

    I bought that same bike in 76 the only difference I see is mine also had kick start timing cover different and a black plate went on air cleaner cover said 1200 on and my pipes were different

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The kicker was "optional". The FX always had them but one could put on an "optional" electric starter; while the FXE had an electric start only system and an optional kick starter. These pipes, while originals, were not available until 1977. I "recreated" this from a basic shovel with matching motor and frame. The tank is original paint but I had my painter paint a set of stock fender's to match. I was missing the correct 1200 air cleaner cover which they all had. The correct 1973-76 exhaust is extremely difficult to find, nearly all were thrown out, so either a bike has them, or chances you won't find it. But these slash muffler exhausts, while people disliked the quietness, they liked the look, so they saved them and they can be found. HD also sold them as accessory exhausts until 1984, so in that regards they are "technically" correct as a factory accessory.

    • @waynejones6144
      @waynejones6144 ปีที่แล้ว

      The whine is coming from the primary cover where the primary chain is and the chain tensioner shoe is in contact with the chain, creating the "generator sound you think it is ,as i thought when i was a young boy.

    The hole correct exactly way it was, as far as "value" does not apply to all harleys, There's personal opinions and there's facts. What about the choppers of the late 60s and 70s ? They're not ruined. Truth is this complete originality for value get the first year pan shovel, or pan and then anything before that, this isn't my opinion. Same goes for classic cars, there's a reason people 72 and older. And then there's the restomods currently bringing twice and three times what an all original muscle car sales for. Unless it has 0 miles and you can never drive it.
