He had yet to go through his own transgressions, #8 was just pure talent & heart to will...#24 is when he finally became the player he always envisioned himself being. Kobe's best numbers came from when he had better teammates, but his most extraordinary task was beating The 1st Super Team Celtics in 2010. I love #8 Kobe because if they would have got it right with him, understood his youth & immaturity, instead of blaming him for his failures & the divorce between him and Shaq, #24 might have never happened.

Kobe maximizes his potential for greatness..fact Shaq was much more serious than he led us to believe but certainly didn’t maximize his potential..opinion
@Leland Joseph Kobe is a legendary talent and player. Hands down. You can argue he isn't top 10, I personally think he is, but the dude was fantastic. Anyone who thinks he isn't a legend and all-time great is foolish to the game.
@Leland Joseph I was say calling him a "media myth" is definitely an attempt to undermine his legacy. None of us said anything about MJ, and 99% of people will tell you MJ is better. MJ is far and away the best ever, but Kobe is a top 10 player all-time.
Kobe was often stupid on the court with his selfish play and was a horrible leader in the locker room. His one size fits all approach to leading doesn't work. There is a reason D-Wade though an alpha worked well with both Lebron and Shaq. He's was a real leader.
@Leland Joseph he won 3 titles with Shaq and 2 with Pau Gasol. That's a winner. I don't know the other years he was expected to win and didn't. Losing to a 3 HOF Boston team? The Dwight Howard debacle that wouldn't have made the playoffs if he didn't finish the season hurt without Howard or Nash? The stacked pistons team with 4 all stars, DPOY, and Tayshaun Prince as their 5th best player? You're being unrealistic. If him winning 10 titles is the criteria he has to meet to be in conversation with MJ, forget about it. He was going through the stacked West with Phoenix (Nash, Marion, Stoudamire, Jrich, Barbosa, Bell), prime Spurs (Duncan, Ginobli, Parker), Kings (Webber, Peja, JWill), Mavs (Dirk, Howard, Terry). I mean, in 01 the the Blazers were the 7th seed with 51 wins. This was arguably the best decade for a conference ever. Then those stacked teams like Boston and Detroit after getting out of the west? Come on.

@@tylergathers7174 You all keep forgetting that Kobe was 19-21 when they won those rings. Kobe became a much better player after 22. How was Lebron at that age? Nobody is good in the NBA at those ages.
To be fair to Kobe, kobe never had a problem with shaq dominating. Kobe didn’t have a problem til he saw shaq not working hard any more. That’s when the clash began with him and shaq.
I think Kobe repeating without Shaq is a better achievement than winning with him... unless they stayed together and won more.. Kobe didn’t reach his prime yet so u can’t say that Kobe wouldn’t have been Kobe..
I’m going to look back later in life and remember how consistently entertaining and real these two (max and Stephen A too) were and how awesome it was tuning in every day. FOH I’m nostalgic already when I see clips from 2 years ago on my feed.
Shannon is wrong about the FMVP part and here's why: Shaq was in his prime when he got with rookie Kobe. That's why he got the mvps. If they had stayed together, naturally the roles would have switched. Kobe would've been the lead dog. I believe Shaq saw that coming and resented Kobe because of it.
@@antpain1156 people can say anything. Actions speak louder than words. Like Shannon's grandfather used to say, "boy I see better than I hear". Shaq clearly didn't like the idea of Kobe becoming the lead dog and tried to get the owner to choose between them. Buss chose Kobe
Kobe was always Kobe. When he was young. He didn't magically become Kobe cuz Shaq was there. If Kobe had his own team since he was drafted like Lebron, he wouldve had all the scoring records.
Yea but at what cost he would of won how many for this sake of argument he would have 5 scoring titles 3 mvps and no championship knowing Kobe( rest his soul) he Jordan and lebron were driven to win championship the other things the mvps the scoring titles , the Dpoty to those type of players were after thoughts 🤷🏾♂️
@@ATrainInfinite no we were doing the hypothetical and we switch lebron and Kobe I’m saying because the owner never built the team around lebron that could be a issue for Kobe and how long did it take the Cavs to draft someone good after lebron
For a couple years there he was the GOAT. In 00 and 01 it was like watching a man play against 6 year olds. He did whatever the f*ck he wanted, and nobody could touch him. I remember times where three different players would tie him up in the paint, and he'd take all three of em up with him to dunk the ball. In 00 he was one vote shy of being the first unanimous mvp in league history. I believe he's still the only person to win the regular season, allstar, and finals mvps, as well as a scoring title in a single season. When Shaq was at his best, he was the most dominant player any American professional sport has ever seen. The league was even changing rules to make it easier for guys to play against him.
I say 8 rings and every title from 04 on Kobe would have been finals mvp because it wasn't only weight but age lead to his end because he was drafted in 92 which means by 04 he's already 12 years in and big men don't last that long in that era and also due to the way the game was changing Kobe was perfect for his era and he would probably have more mvps because he wouldn't have to carry bad teams or worry about schemes as much as it's mostly to hide not so good players I might say even 10 rings was possible
Leland Joseph idk where you looked that up but they were favored in the three peat yes the east was weak and in 04 I guess but due to many factors they weren't ever gonna win that one and in 08 the Celtics were favored than in 09 and 10 Kobe was just better than everyone that's why they were favored take Kobe off any of the Lakers team past 05 your looking at a lottery team but most people didn't really watch basketball during that time because everyone knew whoever came out the west was the most beat up teams as it was the toughest conference for a long time and Kobe dominated it when he actually had decent players around him
Yea if kobe didn't have his work ethic I font he would have been no where near the top 10 list. Yes he was athletic but so were Vince Carter, Jason Richardson, Steve Francis, T-Mac, Stephon Marbury, Baron Davis, etc. Etc. Injuries also played part in that discussion too but Kobe was lowkey injury prone. He just was stubborn and played through everything.
Kobe was gifted. Look at his speed, size and jumping ability. Not to mention hand size. Now all that can get you into the nba, but Kobe got himself everything else through work.
Things happened the way the should have. Kobe did something amazing. People told Kobe he was carried to his championship and he couldn't win after Shaq left. Kobe did the impossible and proved he could do it on his own years later. He went to 3 finals, l less than with Shaq and won 2, 1 less than with Shaq. He truly proved something.
Why does today's generation not know the word is "dominant"? I see this everywhere. "He is so dominate". No, that's wrong. Dominate is a verb. ie. "Shaq would dominate Wilt." The word you're looking for is "dominant".
7:33 I always think the same thing about Jordan. Even in his wizards days he was still torching people. Imagine if he slept early and reduced the smoking
The interview that this is based on is pretty crazy. It’s a recent one that is posted on youtube. Like an hour long, and this one point was so minor in it. Many more impactful comments.
I don't agree with Kobe having 12 rings but I do believe Shaq would've been the G.O.A.T. if he had the work ethic of Kobe. Shaq was the most unstoppable force I have ever seen.
They would have dominated the league until Shaq late years, which is around 2010s. That would mean another 4,5 Final Appearance and rings to both of them. So year, 12 rings would be a stretch, but I could possibly see 7,8 rings.
Another thing they did not mention in this video that held Shaq back from being the greatest was injuries. Shaq missed a lot of games due to injuries. I read an article in which Shaq said that he missed 250 about games due to injury. I also think his free throw shooting hurts Shaq when considering him as the greatest. Shaq's career free throw percentage was only 52.7%. Shaq's weight and bad free throw shooting may have exasperated his injury problem, because opposing teams would Hack a Shaq, because of his poor free throw shooting.
5:41 Skip, that was 2001 when they played the Spurs in the conference finals. In 2000, when Shaw won MVP and led the league in scoring, they beat the Blazers in the conference finals.

Kobe never said "if he worked harder" he said if he had the mindset of KOBE BRYANT.
He specifically said if he worked harder, multiple times. What you said is irrefutably false and invalid.
its not just the weight. imagine if he worked harder in practice and improved his free throws (he shot 50% for career in playoffs). one of the big things other top 10 centers like kareem and hakeem had over shaq is they shot like 70 something % from the line. if shaq couldve done that i bet he would be recognized by a lot more people as being better than them. only other top 10 center who was as bad at the line was wilt and a lot of the same criticisms apply to wilt too.
Shannon Sharpe speaking real facts 💪
Shaq was so dominant that he was lazy AF & he still was dropping 30-10-5 on dudes heads. ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Easy to do....when ur bigger than everyone else. He'd be trash at 6'8". Couldn't dunk then.

Naw Shaq for his height he was very athletic don't let his size/weight fool you. Look at highlights when he was with the Magic dude was solid
Shaq just went Hollywood movies and music than working on his first craft

Kobe and Shaq fought a lot because he didn’t like that Shaq didn’t take it seriously enough. They would have been fine if Shaq worked hard.
It would've been something else. Kobe wanted too be #1
Eightys Baby87 and kobe should have been #1 as shaq was getting older and kobe was entering his prime but shaq prob would have never ceded the spot to him

Kobe with Shaq winning 6 or 7 ships would have made him the S Pippen of the Lakers.
Jorge Melendez exactly!
Nahh...remember Kobe wasn't even in his prime yet, when Shaq left. 06-2010 Kobe was a Monster! The drama between them gives Kobe all the blame. If shaq would have stayed, people probably wouldn't hate Kobe the way that they do! People really believe Kobe's rings belonged to Shaq & Pau 😭
@@itsonlydirt1994 Kobe was even a monster before he entered his prime when he was winning with Shaq. The 2001 playoffs is a prime example how he used to torch the SA and Sac defenses in the WC.
@ Not according to age & maturity. #24 is an example of him mastering his game. #8 he was still a student learning from his predecessors.
@ I never said he wasn't based off numbers, I said maturity & etc. We all know prime Kobe was 05-up! He was young Kobe with Shaq. I think Joel Embid will have the same issue, if he doesn't keep up the new diet
not really tje same. Shaq purposely got out of shape by his own account.
I also see Embid purposefully eating cheeseburgers before games haha haha

Kobe maximizes his potential for greatness..fact
Shaq was much more serious than he led us to believe but certainly didn’t maximize his potential..opinion
@Leland Joseph i agree kobe is over hyped
Come on.

He played in 7 and got 2 finals mvps...
If Shaq is playing in all of them then Kobe probably ain't getting FMVP. Shaq was too dominant
Nine Dnine If Shaq had the work ethic that Kobe would’ve wanted, he’d have no FMVP. He already lost out on three straight with Shaq at 70-75% capacity.

Shannon is wrong about the FMVP part and here's why:
Shaq was in his prime when he got with rookie Kobe. That's why he got the mvps. If they had stayed together, naturally the roles would have switched. Kobe would've been the lead dog. I believe Shaq saw that coming and resented Kobe because of it.
not sure about the resenting part bc shaq said kobe was going to be the goat but i agree with u💯

MJ did it twice, 96 & 98 season, regular season, all stars, finals MVPs and of course the scoring title
@@reginaldarevalo2627 and MJ takes it even further, all NBA defense 1st team both years
I say 8 rings and every title from 04 on Kobe would have been finals mvp because it wasn't only weight but age lead to his end because he was drafted in 92 which means by 04 he's already 12 years in and big men don't last that long in that era and also due to the way the game was changing Kobe was perfect for his era and he would probably have more mvps because he wouldn't have to carry bad teams or worry about schemes as much as it's mostly to hide not so good players I might say even 10 rings was possible
Not if he took care of his body. With all his money he could have listed as long as Malone did.

I feel like they never give the goat title to centers.
