I remember using Fairy Power Spray back in like 2010, I tried it again last year and it barely worked. Wonder if they saw a drop in sales after the formula change? That'd be funny.

Thanks, very helpful. I did a botched paint job on a resin Marneus Calgar, and wanted to start over but wasn't sure what to use (and didn't keep the sprew to test).

Personally I use brake fluid as it's by far the best product on the market. I've heard Isopropanol might worth without damaging the models but that stuff is expensive where I live. In the US it apparently extremely cheap at like $5 per gallon or something.

I used dettol yesterday for some of my years old 40k metal, plastic and resin work great submerged leave for a few hours then scrub it off then some methylated alchohole I think it is to remove any oily substance after

    • @thedrumstick394
      @thedrumstick394 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes use the alchohole after to remove any substance as I said

If you don't have methylated spirits on hand, you can use normal washing-up liquid as well. Cheaper and kinder to your skin.

Would love to find something that will strip Citadel Primer - specifically Chaos Black - from styrene. I have tried everything I can think of without success. Anyone found a way?

The best US ones are Super Clean and LA's Awesome Cleaner. Both are degreaser products so maybe that's the magic cleaner category.

If you use any of these strippers make sure you thoroughly wash these miniatures. Any residue from the stripper will remain and can activate long after you painted the miniature, causing it to blister below all your hard work.

Out of interest: I'm stripping a really big mini atm, 3 bottles of Dettol went into making sure it was completely submerged. That is quite an investment, so I'm wondering if it's possible to run the used Dettol through a filter after the stripping is done, to separate out the paint goop and save the solvent for future stripping.

You can buy large bottles of generic dettol cheaper brands but same formula for a quid a bottle at most pound shops www.poundland.co.uk/dr-johnson-disinfectant this stuff is 2 for 1 pound and exactly the same stuff as dettol

I would do this experiment again (because you did it really well), but you should have tried at least 3 different dilutions too!
That's a lot of models to potentially sacrifice, but you've done the world a service good sir, maybe you could do it again.
EDIT: If you diluted it you could extend the times to 6, 8 and about 24 then truly decide what method is best.
I would seriously appreciate it if you did that. I'll even subscribe if you respond with any reassurance.
I really want to know if there's a solution I can leave a lot of models in at once for a very long time.
I want to ensure that the paint comes off completely, but I also want to avoid any risks of damage to the models.

Surprised the figures never melted in nail varnish remover no matter what kind and the Detol can still be mixed 50/50 with water and still get a great result

Acetone free just means acetone free. The acetone is replaced by another (allegedly less harmful and possibly less effective but at least it's not acetone) solvent hence the melting base and the smell. Personally I wouldn't use a solvent based product. Dettol or a generic brand has always worked for me.

There are various kinds of brake fluid, obviously for various kinds of brakes. Some work great, others melt plastic and resin entirely.
