    I'd love to see a Ural video on changing a flat on the retro rear wheel using the spare wheel and tire. Your videos are well done and appreciated.

      I did that... on the side of the road... unexpectedly... you can search my channel for it. I now carry a small mechanical bottle jack.

    I had my first flat on the road with my 2017 Retro. It is a very different frame and I did not account for the loss of height with the flat. We did manage to use a rubber hammer I had on the rig (thankfully my Son was riding with me) and we got the job done. When I got back, I immediately purchased a small mechanical bottle jack that used to come with Ford Rangers from the nearest junk yard and it rides with me now everywhere I go. It can be done, but that bottle jack is a back saver. We rode over 15,000 miles in less than 2 years and if not for this current situation (pandemic) we would have been in Nova Scotia (from Georgia) this month.

      Hey Robert, You will be pleased to hear we FINALLY broke bad and replaced the rear pusher tire that (we bought in August 2017) for the worn out tire that along with the Dead battery 🔋 (replacing it tomorrow) was the Main reason we haven’t been riding it for two years, is just about to be ridden Again. 😎👍✅ BTW, we keep the piece of 2x4 under the seat that Van Lee had shown a few years ago for getting the rig up on the kickstand and also dubbles as a stand for changing to front and sidecar tires.

      @@annafraley5388 OK, this sounds crazy but if your rig is not running well, disconnect the speedometer and see what happens. Just unplug the two big plugs to it behind the headlight that go to the speedo and see if the rig begins to run better. Our cT was in a no/start no/run situation during a trip. I was about to give up on it when my wife asked that I disco the speedo too because it was wonky and she was tired of looking at it, so I figured I could at least do that much while I waited on replies from the dealer to see what I might do about it running. With the speedo unplugged it would start and run, plugged it back in, problem was back. So... give it a shot, can't hurt.

      @@GoneUraling ... Yeah, the 2015 (along with the 2014&16) don’t have the electric ⚡️ speedo, so... 😫

    Good video. I had a flat tire once and was not able to get it on the stand, but did not try your tricks. I did however, try to hold the stand down and use reverse to try and back up on it. Didn’t work... just slid on the pavement. Had to get some younger and stronger guys to help me out. On longer trips I will haul the mechanical screw jack from my truck.

      Check with a junk yard for a "Ford Ranger bottle jack" the old ones, not the new ones. It is small, compact and easy to use and will not leak fluid (it's mechanical)

    Great tricks. Now I have a question. I have never owned a Ural, sad to say, if the opportunity arises I will get one. I am now 72 in fairly good health. If I am still in good health at 80 would it still be a grand idea to buy a Ural?

    • @davidwaynegeorge2292

      joseph jacobson I have a good friend who is also in his 70’s and in fairly good health. He rides daily rain or shine on his 2014 URAL. He has (no exaggerating) over 100,000 kilometers since new. If you have upper body strength to direct steer (handlebar steer) then yes it’s a grand idea. Link to a video with his bike and the new EFI conversion he did. th-cam.com/video/-jo1O3lPJlg/w-d-xo.html

      joseph jacobson Nice fellow at my golf course ordered a big contraption to groove his swing. When on the phone and ordering everything was finalised except delivery. The girl said it would take two weeks. He quickly replied - Lady I’m 87 and want it here before I’m dead. He had his swing trainer the next day. This year he will be ninety three and I expect to see him out there walking and carrying his bag. You are never too old to think about trying something especially if it might put a smile on your face.

      Joseph , you have 8 years on me , but I can tell you it’s a great cruiser. I would suggest a test drive , but guarantee it’s a blast at any age . My 2007 Patrol is a joy , especially riding along the Pacific Coast Highway in Southern California.

    • @geckoboy49
      @geckoboy49 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joseph, why wait 8 years until you're 80? Chances are you won't be as healthy as you are right now, sorry to say but that's the biology of aging. I'm 70, bought my Ural last year and love it. If it is set up correctly, direct steering isn't that difficult. I can't get the thing up on the centerstand quite as easily as young David in the vid, but I use a section of 2x4 and always carry it with me. Makes a huge difference.

  • @spiritwalker6153

    I carry a jack from a Ford Ranger for that purpose. it is small enough not to take much room in the trunk and it is a lot easier than trying to pull it up on the center stand.

      By pulling the swing arm

    • @markusboeing
      @markusboeing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      DaFalcon Doubt it very much. You can’t get a good grip on the swingarm. Also the grip would be too low, very difficult to use the strength of legs and glutes.

      Be a manly man, I just grab the wheel rim with my right hand, lift the bike up a foot, use my left to drop the center stand. (I'm lying, I carry a small mechanical bottle jack on my 2017 Retro and my wife has a 2017 cT, I have a jack on it too).

    Nice, but after s decade of Ural ownership, I just carry a small jack, about the size of that 2X4...and a 12V air pump...last time I didn't have anything, a couple of bikers stopped and just picked it up...

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If all else fails, James just kicks it until the tire fixes itself. We've ridden a fair amount together, so far James has always had the decency not to get a flat while we are with him, only when he wanders off alone.

    I know the other options but don't think about the shovel. There is also another one option if you need more space for some reason. Put in on the grass and and pull it back (with a rear wheel) on a parking lot.

    Very informative. Question, can I use the kickstand today give me more clearance with doing fluid changes? I’ve been smashing my hands under the bike to do basic oil changes. I just don’t want used oil to pool inside the tank in an unbalanced side that doesn’t get drained before I drain it. Will the kick stand keep it level?

    • @UralMotorcyclesOfficial
      @UralMotorcyclesOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motorcycle will slant towards the front and slightly towards the sidecar. It would not be level and would pool to some degree as you stated. With the drain plug located towards the rear of the oil pan it is best to keep it level.

    • @GoneUraling
      @GoneUraling 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the center stand and a floor jack (I'm in my shop, why not?) and I use the floor jack to level the rig. I notice if I drain the oil when the front of the rig is down, then raise the front I get a very tiny bit more oil out... honestly wonder if it is even worth it. When I drain it and lift the sidecar to level, no additional oil comes out so I don't worry about it from that direction.

    Could we get an update on any plans for an electric Ural? Especially in light of the West Coast states pushing for a fossil fuel vehicle ban in 2030.

  • @barryervin5297
    @barryervin5297 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm thinking that if you have a sidecar, and are carrying a shovel, you could probably find room somewhere to carry a small hydraulic bottle jack which could come in handy in many ways. Then you could even ditch the unnecessary center stand. This might offend the "originality" fanatics, but I doubt that most Russian soldiers were overly concerned with originality as long as it worked.

    Does anyone have any idea why I can't lift my 2019 gear up onto the center stand,?it is excessively hard even with 2 in under the rear wheel the, center stand also will not stay down by itself as in the video.
    Thanks

    Ural should strongly consider moving forward on developing an electric bike as the Ural is a perfect platform for an electrically powered engine. I use my Ural M-70 for trips of under fifty miles and can only think of once that I've taken it over 100 miles. If I'm traveling further or going highway, I take my two-wheeler. The Ural is a great around town, secondary road vehicle but there are other alternatives for longer trips.

    • @GoneUraling

      We rode 2 of them from Georgia to St Paul MN and back in a big circle last year. Seemed like a good long trip bike to me, we had blast. "We" being my wife and myself.
