    When Morph switches personalities from good to evil, the evil face has the shade on the eyes, I wouldn't remove it because those are Good Morph/Bad Morph heads, the body looks great now I wanna do that lol

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I in part did it to see if I could even do it haha, but I also feel like the Good Morph head doesn't really look as much like him as the Bad one does. The Good one looks great in the sense of like, how he might have looked if he were from the comics though. But yeah, definitely try the paint removal and let me know how it goes!

      @@ComicallyToys they probably didn't go fully animated series likenes for future repaints, you know Hasbro loves repaints, they will re-release a no cell shade version and they'd be stupid if they don't do a "deluxe" retro card with a bunch of head sculpts for other X-Men like the Toy Biz morph did...

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว

      haha yeah i really won't be surprised if they do that! though since this version of morph didn't exist in the comics it's very possible they won't release him without shading as well. so far they've stuck true to "accurate" releases if that makes sense. but they do like their money... so never say never haha

      @@ComicallyToys I started collecting Hasbro with the Juggernaut BAF wave, I've collected every character that appeared in the animated series and 90s comics (except AoA) they've been pretty hybrid with their comic versions and the animated series, most recent example is Apocalypse, no cell shaded but I don't remember ever seen Apocalypse in purple in the comics, that came straight from the A.S. I bet there's a lot that has done the same and collected these X-Men because of the show and Hasbro knows that, I really doubt they'll keep Morph as a "VHS" cell shaded release, specially when he was in that Toy Biz line which these retro cards is based on, "Morph no cell Shaded Retro carded" I'm gonna save this and I'll be back when it happens 😂🤣

    Great info!!!! I used it to remove the cel shading on my ML Cyclops. I used a brush and paper towels and was very happy with the results. Just be careful with the amount of the brush cleaner that you use. When working on the front abdomen/belt area, there was some residue cleaner that got through joints and was on the back of the figure for a minute and messed up some of the plastic because I was unaware. Each time I finished a part, I placed it in water, just to be safe in ending the chemical process.

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup with Mr Sinister I've definitely confirmed that they use slightly different plastics for the torso than they do for the limbs. And other parts can be even more different. In my Mystique video her skirt was REALLY hard to remove the paint from! I'm super glad it worked for you though! Will you be de-cel shading any other figures?

  • @RayMungus
    @RayMungus ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Was recommended your channel when asking about methods to do this and I'm pretty impressed with how yours came out. I've got to ask, its been 3 months since you posted this video. Have you run into any adverse affects using the brush cleaner? Anything noticeable on the plastic as time passed? I plan to follow your video beat-by-beat and I thought I'd ask how good ol' Morph is currently doing. Thanks for the great video!

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's incredibly flattering so thank you for that!
      To answer your question, no I've not noticed any adverse effects at all. Once I switched from acetone to the brush cleaner, the figures I've done have come out really, really well. You'll see that with the Cyclops and Spider-Man figures I've done. The only thing that COULD possibly be a problem is that both acetone and the brush cleaner do wipe away any kind of sheen or gloss the figure has. At least that's what some of the people that have commented say they see on the figures. Personally I barely notice that and am not bothered by it.
      If you haven't seen the Mr Sinister video I did, then a quick tip for when you do Morph: tape off the X on his belt before you start. That way you don't accidentally end up rubbing any of the black off of that. Other than that it should be fairly straightforward! Please definitely share your results once you've done it!

  • @stanmullins2488
    @stanmullins2488 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just an update to my previous post. The Windsor and Newton brush cleaner & restorer doea not damage the plastic. I had some excess runoff that I didn't realize, and it got under the glued down Cyclops harness and did eemove some off the glue. So it can act like a solvent on glue, but again, it doesn't seem to affect the regular plastic. This was a solid video 👍🏾

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so glad it's worked out for you! I will say though that the brush cleaner CAN damage plastic, but it depends on the plastic. My Mr Sinister in particular doesn't look so great on the torso and thighs after the paint removal. I think that's a big part of what makes these videos helpful to see what parts might be damaged or not by the removal.

    • @stanmullins2488
      @stanmullins2488 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ComicallyToys much appreciated passing along your experience with the Mr Sinister paint removal. When I did my work on the Cyclops figure, I did boil and pop, to disassemble him as much as I could. That way, there would ve less contamination between the cel shading on the blue and yellow parts. Also, I would use a Q-tip more than the paint brush in the future because the paint brush held onto more liquid

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup! I finally have the animated Spider-Man and my plan is to boil/pop to break it down as much as possible. It's going to be a lot more complicated than the others I've done so far.

  • @lostonwallace1396
    @lostonwallace1396 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'd say that was pretty darn successful. I'd recommend making some smaller swabs using toothpicks with some of the q-tip swab fibers for working around the eye area. Just pull some of the tips off of the swabs, taking out small sections of it to add to each toothpick that you make. To get the swab fibers to stay attached to the toothpicks, just dip the tip of the toothpick in Elmer's glue, then add your smaller bits of fiber to the end. Make several of these smaller swabs to get those hard to get areas. It should be worth it in the long run to make a few just for this purpose. And if that sounds like too much work, then simply use a smaller brush to get better results, man. :)

      @@ComicallyToys I've been an artist for so long, customizing figures is pretty much a natural thing to me. I usually touch up at least half of what Hasbro puts out in the Legends line. I'm very picky, I suppose, but I don't like the way that they do eyebrows a lot of times, and I really didn't like the way Madam Hydra's eyes were done. She had crazy-large eyebrows, and I just didn't dig the look, so I removed all the paint around her eyes. That meant that I removed the pupils too, because I'm actually quite good at repainting eyes with a brush. I can make them look as nice as possible because I've spent uses inking with a brush, and that enables me to have a very steady hand. I made my Hobgoblin figure look more comic book accurate -- much better looking -- by repainting his eyes completely also. It's amazing how paint application can make or break a figure.

    • @ComicallyToys
      @ComicallyToys  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate the tips! And I'd love to see some of your figures that you've painted! They really, really can make or break a figure. I've seen some amazing work done on taking an "okay" figure to a "holy cow" figure. I've personally never felt very good about being able to paint figures which is why I mostly stick to removing paint or painting black! haha

    • @lostonwallace1396
      @lostonwallace1396 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ComicallyToys I have just begin a new Hobgoblin figure repaint today, so I took some photos for you. So far, I've just repainted his eyes, and I brushed on a varnish coat (ardcoat from citadel). They didn't turn out so well because I used my wife's antiquated cell phone, but they should be good enough to make out what I did. The eye sculpts on this figure are actually very, very good, but Hasbro's paint app over them alters the look of the eyes considerably. All I did was follow what the eyes in the sculpture, and then I give Hobby the heavy black shadows around his eyes. It's WAY cooler than what Hasbro did with the eyes! At least, I think so. It puts him more "on-model" with his comic book look. Since they really made this figure look very basic, it needs some paint washes and repainting around the eyes to transform the figure a winner.

I actually did reach out to them about it and they responded letting me know that they've gotten a lot of feedback so there is a good chance they'll be reverting the formula back to the old one. In the mean time I've ordered a few more brush cleaners to see if I can find one that will perform the same way. Sorry again!
