To get rid of the cell shading just use 2 Q-tip acetone ( nail polish remover) one side with one dipped ( not drop wet) in acetone wipe were cellshading is flip an wipe with dry side and have another amother q tip one side dipped in water clean area then dry. repeat till disaired effect is. acheived . Do not us Acetone on painted area that dont want removered. that would just better to paint with matching color thin cost then matte or satin varnish to seal ( spray or brushed on)
The question of the day: I’ll without a doubt use the evil head, whenever I open the copy I own. Damn, hadn’t noticed the arms. This is the first and unless we get some of the villains.. Probably the only vhs X-Men figure I’ll buy for now. I really liked this character but had high hopes we’d get some cool unique additional heads with this guy.
Love you're artistic references, I myself hated the the cell shading i grew up watching the X-MEN as an 11 year old. Yet because I buy Model Helicopters, Tanks and Aircrafts, and paint, glue and put together. My son who has recently watched and loved every X-Men 97 then watched every episode. He then asked for the figures I said if you "do good at school and help out at home" . He went above and beyond. I was able to get him Morph, Storm, Jean Grey, and Wolverine. I had to get Cyclops from the Xmen 97. Still looking for a couple more but I have had to paint a couple of them. Fun
The head sculpt looks NOTHING LIKE MORPH. If you want to make an accurate junkie Morph head sculpt (no “cel shading” please!), I would definitely buy it for $20 or whatever price you sell your heads for these days. Maybe make that a poll? This isn’t a “comic version” either, as this character was introduced in the animated series. His face needs to be gaunt and narrow and instead he has a chiseled jaw. The body is fine, Morph was pretty jacked despite his gaunt face. But the face is just a random handsome guy. Mondo did a perfect Morph head sculpt that comes with their Magneto figure. It can be done. Hasbro just blew it, and it seems like enough people bought this crap that the team can pat themselves on the back despite their ineptitude.
The Zombie head sculpt is very good. Won't use the regular head. Agree 100% and I don't get why, but why don't they just make them look just like the cartoon. That's what everyone wants from this line. Good video. Well done

Paul Harding was the sculptor for this figure (the heads, anyway) and he had to defend it on Twitter a bit by clarifying that Hasbro requested this realistic, "Marvel Legends," interpretation of the character which just further confirms that Hasbro just has the all together wrong approach for this sub-line, as far as I'm concerned. I mostly echo your thoughts, - it's fine. It just comes with the added burden of likely being the one and only Morph figure Hasbro produces so it's more disappointing than other "fine" releases they've done. One would think if they were going to put a lot of effort into just one figure in this line it would have been for the character unique to the show (yes, I know, he's technically Changeling from the comics before anyone tries to correct me), but Hasbro clearly had other ideas. I would have liked to have seen a way to display him with or without the jacket and why not a smiling portrait for non-evil Morph? A gun and a gripping hand would have been nice too, but Hasbro just isn't one to put extra effort into much unless they can charge $350 dollars for it.
Anthony, ever thought about making a how to repaint tutorial? For me, some of these celshaded figures are a "let's remove celshading with some nail polish" but never thought about actually repainting

I only recently started collecting legends and im already fatigued with the lack of effort. The "how little effort and money can we put into these until people stop buying them" way they do every figure is annoying. I love morph and was excited to get a figure but then you realise its 95% reuse, barely any paint, the shading is bad and they dont even put effort into the new sculpts to make them accurate. Then add a premium price on it and take away the plastic and put it in a fancy cardboard box lmao. People are gonna still buy it because there is no other morph they can buy. I would display him with the evil head because the other one looks like someone made a selfie series figure and it kinda looked like morph.
He's got the evil head on my shelf (might just paint over the eyeshadow). Looked up how to remove the cell shading right after I got him. I'm glad to have an animated Morph, but I mostly collect X-Men. It's the ONLY one I bought from this awful wave since it's the only way to get him. 7 is spot on

I'm thinking that it's a matter of "form follows function", and the reason for doing it in animation doesn't translate to a 3-D object. (The cell shading doesn't follow the light source when you move the figure, for example.)

(But then, I'm thinking of that animated Venom figure with the red and blue lines, which are more like "stripes" than actual shading, I guess.) Morph is kinda a decent figure When you get the cyclops vhs marvel legends you need to compare him to cyclops (warlock wave or love triangle) not Darwin...
Not as bad as I was thinking. As far as which head I'd display, definitely Evil Morph, had more dimension in the cartoon. Honestly if you remove the half assed cel shading it's not bad, but barring Storm and Jean that could be said for a lot of figs in this line. I am looking forward to Cyclops though if they use the Vulcan buck
I had bought an eternal figure that was messed up and i remember hasbro told me to send it back and that they would send me a replacement and they sent me morph as a replacement. I was pretty happy to get it because i didn't get morph when he came out
With a figure with so much reuse, they could have sculpted a new jacket for the figure that had space for the traps hollowed out so it'd sit flush and at the proper height. Hasbro is just lazy and doesn't care anymore. As you say, for all the problems McFarlane toys have, they actually seem to give a damn about their products. And that's still at a solid $20 price point (no baf piece)
I got mine for 20 bucks on sale and then a other 6 bucks cash back. At that price, I'm OK with it. If another sale happens I may get a second one. If I do, one gets the evil head and joins the villains shelf and they other gets the normal head and joins the animated xmen shelf.

The cell shading in this line is horrendous. I’ve seen better from people making their first custom. Not me, cause I suck, but hey… I’ll stick with my AoA/Exiles Morph. He’s my favorite version anyways Is it possible to safely remove the “cel shading?” Like acetone with a qtip?
I do not understand this "cell shading" thing at all. From what I see of it, its usually just a gaudy, cheap looking paint job. Here the shading looks like randomly placed splotches and stripes of dark paint.
Question of the day: Neither, for this over priced mediocre figure as I won't be buying it. Looks like Morph is a sloppy coffee drinker and dropped coffee all over his jacket.
Your question of the day presupposes that this Morph will be in our collections. So to answer whether I will use the inaccurate friendly Morph or acceptable evil Morph head, the answer is none of the above.

I think I could see buying this fig, but only if I had a custom in mind that needed a jacket. Use the arms and the jacket piece and repaint them. Might be able to recycle the heads for something else, but this fig is just fodder.
These cel shaded figures are so bad, man... Their cel shaded Carnage has as little black paint as possible... Carnage is probably the best character for a cel shading style and Hasbro didn't even try.

These vhs packs are a huge L. It's not the cell shading idea for me but the effort they put into the figures. These ones look bad and so do the new spiderman ones. Disappointing.

The Good Morph head looks just like Bruce Campbell in Escape From LA.

Cell shading works fine on 3d things it just takes a lot of paint. Mondo did a decent job. Custom gundams have it all the time

Yes. It should be understood that you would need to buy the figure to be able to answer the question about how you will display it.

Casting Cave has a pretty good animated Morph painted head for $45, I bought one and I like the way it looks on the body
