    “That’s Batman.”
    I always felt that B:TAS and TNBA were comparable to the point where TNBA managed to continue some dark as well as fun stories that met its predecessor’s standards.

    The thing about Killer Croc is that he wasn't dumb in his first appearance, Vendetta. He was calculating and menacing. I'll always be grateful for "And I threw a rock at him!" in Almost Got 'Em (not actually Croc), but the dumbing down of the character was a peculiar choice. It's nice that TNBA course corrected, but the redesign (not to mention teaming up with Baby Doll) really undermines it.
    I also hated that Mr. Freeze continued to be an antagonist following the events of Sub-Zero.

    • @tornadochaser2457
      @tornadochaser2457 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The thing is, that wasn't Croc who said he "threw a rock at him", that was Batman. However, I get why Batman would portray him that way as he did have a dumb brute sort of appearance, even though he was calculating and menacing in "Vendetta". Croc was never a joke in any way, but there's an in-between regarding both worlds here, I think.

    • @greyonekenobi19
      @greyonekenobi19 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tornadochaser2457 I pointed out that it wasn't Croc; it does say more about Batman that he perceived him that way (and the others, too that his "stupidity" didn't give away the disguise). Maybe he didn't get enough screen time, but he never felt the same after Vendetta. He wasn't bad in sideshow, but it wasn't the greatest episode, and the only other appearance I remember is Trial, where he's portrayed as more of a punchline.

    • @tornadochaser2457
      @tornadochaser2457 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@greyonekenobi19 I wouldn't say he was a punchline in Trial, he was simply "there". He didn't do anything to standout. In Sideshow, he was forceful and desperate, but it felt perfectly in-character. In Vendetta, he was calculating and menacing because he had the time and resources to carry out a solid plan, as well as the motivation to ensure the plan stayed on track, without possible outbursts or a lax attitude to undermine things.

    • @greyonekenobi19
      @greyonekenobi19 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tornadochaser2457 "Punchline" may not be the right word, but some of the other villains are dismissive. When Joker fires his machine gun after the lights go out, this exchange happens:
      Scarface: Don't... you'll hit Croc!
      Joker: What's your point?
      Batman dispatches him fairly easily after this. Croc also says "hit him with a rock!" during the trial in reference to Batman. It's funny, but it's a callback to "dumb" Croc. Aside from Almost Got 'Em, this really seems like the episode that cemented Croc's reputation.

    • @tornadochaser2457
      @tornadochaser2457 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@greyonekenobi19 I think the Joker could easily do that to anyone, he definitely might be more inclined to do that to Croc as his "dumbness" makes him come off as less intimidating, but I can see him doing that to anyone else for sure. I agree with the other episodes cementing Croc a bit more as a dumb guy, but his possible ferocity, strength, and ruthlessness make him scary to me regardless, and I'm not bothered by his portrayal, it actually makes him standout more as a unique entity, being nicely diverse in a vast line-up of villains. To each his own, of course.

    I get that SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES pushed the synergy issue of having Batman's world compatible with the Superman esthetics. The 3-part WORLD'S FINEST story arc essentially proved that TNBA was right to change the overall looks of the characters.
    Even the voice acting got some upgrades when the redesigned TNBA came into being. I wasn't exactly mad or agrivated. It just felt a bit odd to hear Baby Doll, Killer Croc, even Batgirl getting different voices.
    Regarding Joker... huh. Let's just say THANK GOD FOR BATMAN BEYOND! Course correction on their part with RETURN OF THE JOKER giving us 2 badass interpretations. Flashback Joker and Neo-Gotham Joker bothed looked great. Hey, change is inevitable.❤

    Also one funny thing i was thinking about him:
    "Joker bootleg, made by the Joker, who is better than the Joker and scares the shit out of the Joker"

    Poison Ivy got an explanation in the tie-in comics if I remember correctly- she isn't the "real" Poison Ivy, but one of her plant clones come to life, which is also why she has superpowers (and, indeed, why she looks younger).

    I never liked the redesigns of the villains (Especially Joker with his beedy little eyes). Exception would be Scarecrow who became way scarier and less Wizard of Oz. Also, for some reason TNBA was localized, while the OG show wasn’t, so the voices/Language changing felt weird.
    However, mostly I didn’t like how they made Batman more careless. It didn’t help that they always showed the crossover with Superman between TAS ending and TNBA starting. Imho that crossover tries way too hard to idealize Superman by vilifying Batman. This carried over in the Nightwing episode where he describes why he left. I just wish they had at least given a proper reason, like someone close to him dying or something that would explain why he suddenly became more aggressive.

    I agree, I LOVE the piercing black eyes on the Joker's redesign, it's haunting and truly does justice to the terrifying, otherworldly, unordinary monster that he is. It just doesn't look quite right to not have more colour on his face though, I think I miss the red lips, though it feels that will likely take away from the starkly, baron-manner, hauntingly plain face with just demon eyes attached, that he has. The original is the classic look, and it has all the colour that's expected, you can't go wrong with that design, whereas with the redesign, it feels like you can just a 'lil bit, but in a noticeable way that never really leaves. I don't mean to go all spiritual and existential, but we should aim to have inner peace. Still, I appreciate the redesign for what it is.
    The Scarecrow is the one indisputable improvement. I only miss the original design just a little bit, and that's due to missing Jonathan Crane's original, big personality, not due to missing the design. Regardless, I would sacrifice that instantly for this design's creepiness and haunting, zombie-like, and frightful appearance alone.
    One thing that I think a lot of people miss, is that Harley Quinn's and Harvey Dent's seeming happy endings are abandoned, logically, in favour of more, standard stories with the two as villains. Ultimately, they actually end up in more psychologically damaging situations than ever before. The Ventriloquist ends up getting a happy ending instead. On the other side of the spectrum, Arnold Wesker was actually the most sympathetic when attempting to reform throughout his redemptive episode, as his psychological struggle is palpable. I'm not sure if people realise the red sky nights came from the opening of both the original and this show (so... the same opening!) having a red sky - I mean, perhaps it can be assumed, but I've never once heard it be said.

    Batman: The Animated Series is the project that got me interested in the Batman character. Since then other Batman shows came out but non of them staked up against the 90s animated series. Kevin Conroy is the goat when it comes to Batman. But in live action, that crown goes to Christian Bale. His version of Batman reminded me of Conroy's Batman every step of the way. One of them was the emotional aspect. Comparing it to Conroy, Bale nailed that part. He nailed a lot when it comes to Batman. Batman: The Animated Series has since become my favorite cartoon series. Scooby-Doo: Where Are You and Superman: The Animated Series follow close behind.

    Finally, someone who doesn't hate the TNBA Joker design!
    It's got a lot of personality, despite the toned down features. A lot less human than the other characters, really leaning into this pale giggling lunatic.
    His smile is still uncomfortably wide, his frame is a little more angular and gangly, and his eyes are haunting and unpredictable. You can't really tell what he's thinking when he's staring you dead on with a fixed grimace.
    That being said, the Justice League amalgam of the two really was the peak design.

    If I was to make a tiers list of the redesigns I would label them: I’m fine with either designs, Good but I prefer the original, a very good design but I’d rather it be a new character then a redesign, ok but something’s off (uncanny valley), not a good redesign. Personally I can’t think of any redesigns I prefer over the original, but that could be a bit of stubbornness on my part (for one reason or another).
    In case anyone was wondering, I would put the Joker in the ’ok but something’s off’ category (there’s some videos on TH-cam of TNBAS clips where someone did a recoloring of the Joker and it was a major improvement) and the Scarecrow in the ‘good but I’d rather it be a new character’. For me, while the design is really good, it doesn’t fit the character or the look of the Scarecrow. I feel it would fit a Grim Reaper themed character or zombie themed like Solomon Grundy better. The Scarecrow, meanwhile, shouldn’t be the personification of fear, but rather a being that can cause fear in people with the use of his toxin.

    So the change of Bruce here is an evolution of the character. Even tho it is not outright stated, Batman is struggling separating the two to the point of hes Batman 24/7 due to his heighten sense of responsibility for it as he got older.

Which is kinda funny cause the Kraang from the 2012 TMNT cartoon are not really scary and are kinda idiots. I would say that creepy relationship was in Batman Beyond and Mystery of the Batwoman. There’s no hint in TNBA and thank Great Rao for that!

      Yeah that mess was just wrong and he should've just kept that to himself. Batman and Batgirl are supposed to be mentor & young underling and nothing more!

    I like Bruce’s TNBA-onward face better than TAS.

    I would argue that this show wasn't better than Batman TAS because it was simply a followup on it. It's the same show

    Batgirl/Barbara Gordon is waifu material in this show XD she's an amazingly beautiful redhead, she's smart, she's brave and she's sassy. I love her and would marry her. She's so perfect.

    I didn’t like the move to make Killer Crock more reptilian. I guess I always saw him a circus strongman with a skin condition who really leans into his gimmick, rather than a literal lizard man.

    • @tornadochaser2457
      @tornadochaser2457 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The show generally seemed more unrealistic -
      In addition to Killer Croc not being a man with a skin condition, but instead, simply feeling like a reptile, Poison Ivy had all-out, inhuman, green skin, the Joker has piercing black eyes, Mr. Freeze is a head in a jar (though this relates to character evolution, not character design), the sky is always red at night, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, and The Ventriloquist have black dots for eyes, and Catwoman seemingly has pale white skin in costume (it's never stated that she wears make-up, and it doesn't feel like it's necessarily, automatically assumed either). The angular character designs, though obviously being in-keeping with Superman: The Animated Series', distinctly feel less naturally human, though the colour palette actually is more photo-realistic, however. The Bat Signal also became cartoonish in its large size.

    I didn't like Batman on Fox kids .. However as soon as they moved to WB 20 and changed up the art work /designs of characters/adding more characters I was all in ... 🤷🏽‍♂️👍🏽

    Ngl, I didn't like most of the new character designs in the New Adventures. Nightwing is the best. However the way all the women are drawn exactly the same use to bother me. Batman was bigger and colder.

      LOL Nightwing's design isn't new, it never existed before. Even the thing you liked isn't valid.
