My first time I heard music of the great Cal Tjader was in my first year (1960-1965) in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton. Fortunately the PX in camp had nice selection of jazz and I purchased my first Latin jazz LP of Tjader. From there on I was hooked. I am 78-years young and from time to time I listen to Tjader and remember those times of my youth.
Hey Garcia Dog, Semper Fi. Left PI in Oct. 60 to Camp Geiger, then to 322 CLNC. Till 64. I'm here same reason as you, love Tjader and his whole crew since he played with Dave Brubeck. I think ( if it could be so) ,my favorite LP is Contemporary music of Mexico and Brazil. But it's a very hard choice. I especially love the music he did with the great Eddie Palmieri. Adios brother. I am 80 now. Oohrah. Lee Harvey Oswald did not kill President Kennady.
Bought Witches Brew by Miles Davis while I was in Iwakuni. Also, got Aspects by Humberto Ramirez 1993. I did not know Cal Tjader by name and I'm a Philly guy. Happy that I came across this video.
Vince Guaraldi.. What a talent ...first time I heard the album it put all the pieces together for me in 1971. Complex harmony and complex rhythms! LATIN JAZZ....,CUBA in the 50's the greats days!!!! After that all hell was released and the death of an emerging Republic was lost......

Aparte que el tema es espectacular, me fascina la forma como toca el timbal Al Torre: Pareciera que lo interpretara bajo un "espíritu de jazz"...tiene un magnetismo muy particular. Ni que decir de las interpretaciones de Tjader, Guaraldi, Kant (increíble...es descendiente de Emmanuel Kant, el filósofo alemán) and Eugene Wright. Los otros temas presentes en los 2 cd's que rememoran esta participación en vivo de la banda de Tjader en el "M", tienen mucha magia y representan una época sensacional de Cal. Gracias por postear tan magnífico tema. Una feliz noche Rolly.
Al Torre fue un baterista de jazz que en el grupo de Tjader tuvo que aprender a tocar el timbal, que era requisito indispensable, por eso en el solo hay por momentos un fuerte sonido de jazz. Es la única grabación que existe en la cual Torre hace un solo de timbal, es un estilo diferente, definitivamente. Saludos desde el Callao, Perú.

Señor Posso, disculpe usted, pero la "Salsa" NO EXISTÍA en los años 50´s. Se tocaban el SON y demás ritmos provenientes de Cuba.
