@@peekabooboxingacademy Hi, there are videos of mike tyson training, where you can hear cus d'amato saying "both hands" what does that mean? if it's a combination of punches can you give an example?
21:25 '''And make it [through the pickaboo style] exciting for the people who are paying for the fight''. Well said. Sometimes it's forgotten that fight sports is a business - Meaning it has to be a spectator friendly sport, that's exciting for the people to watch, so they'll come back, & the sport grows. Hence Mike Tyson's pickaboo style was always the exciting to watch, as it was aggressive, effective & a knock out could happen at any moment.

First of all, thank you for this excellent video. I've always found it admirable how often Kevin Rooney and Mike Tyson talked about the jab. The jab was one of the most important weapons for Tyson too. Now to my opinion: The how is less important than the when. The most important thing in boxing, like everywhere else, is to understand the system behind it. Boxing is extremely complex, which is why very few trainers and boxers manage to understand the system. Those who understand it can hold their own against anyone. I'll give a few very simple examples: fighting games. The person who knows how to do it can defeat someone who doesn't understand it very well, even with a character who has disadvantages. or: someone who can drive a car very well can still drive the lap faster than someone who has a faster car but doesn't understand how, when, where he has to brake or accelerate, for example. Mike Tyson was one of the boxers who understood the system. This wasn't just because of his trainers, but also because he knew almost everything about boxing. He studied countless fights and fighters and knew exactly when and where he had to do what.
keep up these videos, i’m trying to master this style, i have an obsession with it, this style fits my build perfectly as it did with mike tyson, im 5’9 weighing 89kg trying to build even more muscle and get to 95-100kg, im lifting weights 5-6x a week and doing a lot of cardio as this style requires extreme conditioning , i have a fight in 4 months and im working hard and im studying this style every single day and practicing it in my gym and its been very useful these videos and im so glad theres finally someone who’s knows the style the proper way and i can learn from it online , i would love some day to come to this gym and get trained by you, im from england, thank you.

Hey Carter! make a slip bag bro, use like a tennis ball or get a speed bag from amazon or something and some rope and tie from the ceiling somehow and make sure the rope is long enough to the ball/bag is levelled at your head

Glad the channel has been a help to you. You can use the Cus style absolutely! But you’ll be making more use of your range rather than being the one who needs to close the gap. The quickness of the slipping can be improved via the slip bag. My most recent video on slipping explains the exercise 🥊

Fantastic stuff, Carter. From the videos I’ve watched so far, this channel easily has some of the best combat sports instruction on TH-cam. If it’s not too much trouble, I have two questions about the Peekaboo system that you might be the best person to ask: 1) Can this style be adapted for people who are taller (i.e. over six feet)? 2) A nerdy question about the development of Peekaboo: Tyson has stated in interviews that, in developing his style, Cus drew inspiration from watching footage of an aggressive form of Japanese Karate. I’ve often wondered which Karate style it was and if the footage he watched can still be found. I’m curious if it was actually an art called Taikiken, and not actually Karate, as I know there is old video of Taikiken’s founder Kenichi Sawai sparring Kyokushin Karate’s founder, Mas Oyama. Taikiken has some interesting similarities with Peekaboo in its lateral footwork and aggressive forward movement, and it is derived from a Chinese style that was influenced by Western boxing. Apologies for the geeky question, but can you shine any light on this history? Thanks again for the great instruction. Cheers!

It’s not meant for any particular build. That being said, each fighter should fight to their strengths within the Cus style. Cus only came to the gym one day a week usually. So they probably don’t know. But I have heard that as well and I will personally ask Mike and probably do a video on it when I get the chance 🥊

Hey Carter . 3 slips after the last punch seems kinda predictable, these slips got Mike Tyson KO a couple times, can you explain why 3 slips and not one or two? Ty for the videos. Keep it up 💪
@@mozes3280 Yes of course, good question. In the Cus style, we are a very square and open target, so we train our elusiveness in a very “%110” way, in that we want to be more elusive than whoever it is that we’re fighting. If we can consistently slip like that in our training, then as we get more experienced, “less is more” becomes the game plan. Meaning that if we only need to slip once or twice in the actual fight, it’s easy for us and we can keep it up all night. Additionally, you don’t want to be predictable. In the beginning of learning the Cus style, we slip in a way that gives us the best chance of missing the punches that will most likely come back at us (as I demonstrate in the Willie bag tutorial). But over time, you’re taught to switch it up to avoid predictability. Move three times after you punch. You can create angles, spring back, move your head, etc. You want to mix and match things in a way that make sense and aren’t predictable, the more experienced you get.

Should being ambidextrous predispose you to considering this style over all others?
