    21:25 '''And make it [through the pickaboo style] exciting for the people who are paying for the fight''.
    Well said. Sometimes it's forgotten that fight sports is a business - Meaning it has to be a spectator friendly sport, that's exciting for the people to watch, so they'll come back, & the sport grows. Hence Mike Tyson's pickaboo style was always the exciting to watch, as it was aggressive, effective & a knock out could happen at any moment.

    hi Carter
    i wanted to say thank you for your videos and things that you are explaining, im living in Ukraine and since i started boxing i wasnt be able to recognize what feels more naturally to me, so after a while i started noticing myself being more comfortable with square stance and this style of boxing, but in urkaine is more common that trainers teach only soviet style, and when i was trying to improve my peek a boo, i will often hear things like "change your stance, your stance is not right" etc. your videos is just pure gold and your students are very lucky to have a trainer like you with that much knowledge and experience.

    First of all, thank you for this excellent video. I've always found it admirable how often Kevin Rooney and Mike Tyson talked about the jab. The jab was one of the most important weapons for Tyson too. Now to my opinion:
    The how is less important than the when. The most important thing in boxing, like everywhere else, is to understand the system behind it. Boxing is extremely complex, which is why very few trainers and boxers manage to understand the system. Those who understand it can hold their own against anyone. I'll give a few very simple examples: fighting games. The person who knows how to do it can defeat someone who doesn't understand it very well, even with a character who has disadvantages. or: someone who can drive a car very well can still drive the lap faster than someone who has a faster car but doesn't understand how, when, where he has to brake or accelerate, for example. Mike Tyson was one of the boxers who understood the system. This wasn't just because of his trainers, but also because he knew almost everything about boxing. He studied countless fights and fighters and knew exactly when and where he had to do what.

    fiiiiiirrrrrrrrrreeeeeee.......lil tidbit...little jewel......one thing that really helped my jab was when i was watching the documentary on that gym with Cus, Tyson, and Teddy....i didnt even realize it at first till you replayed the clip some videos back...i was confused on what to think about when throwing the jab...because i didnt want to feel like i was popping my shoulder out of socket...Teddy was training ManMan i think his name was...and it was SUPER subtle...but he told him, "when jabbing remember to raise your elbow to shoulder level.." or something like that... and i immmmeeeeeedddiiiiaaattteeellyyyy noticed the difference....the pop, flow of the punch, and smoothness was ALL there....sayin that to say for anybody reading this...when it comes to 7's and 2's (straight's) keep your mind on your elbow and raising it to the same height as your shoulder...and it ties RIGHT INTO what Carter said with "imagine punching the target on the back of your opponent's head as opposed to his chin" it puts you in the mindframe of punching THROUGH something as opposed to hitting the surface..

    Hey Carter!
    Personally I'm a super big fan of the Peekaboo Boxing Style and I've been studying it for a year or so, and now that I've found your channel it's super super helpful and helps me tweak the small things.
    Just a quick question - I'm a bigger dude, approx. 6'1½, and slipping quickly 3 times after a jab is quite difficult. Are there any exercises you recommend I do to improve this, or is it just about the repetition?
    And - do you believe I can use the peekaboo boxing style as a taller person?
    Thanks in advance, have a wonderful day!

  • @MrCBTman
    @MrCBTman หลายเดือนก่อน

    Fantastic stuff, Carter. From the videos I’ve watched so far, this channel easily has some of the best combat sports instruction on TH-cam. If it’s not too much trouble, I have two questions about the Peekaboo system that you might be the best person to ask:
    1) Can this style be adapted for people who are taller (i.e. over six feet)?
    2) A nerdy question about the development of Peekaboo: Tyson has stated in interviews that, in developing his style, Cus drew inspiration from watching footage of an aggressive form of Japanese Karate. I’ve often wondered which Karate style it was and if the footage he watched can still be found. I’m curious if it was actually an art called Taikiken, and not actually Karate, as I know there is old video of Taikiken’s founder Kenichi Sawai sparring Kyokushin Karate’s founder, Mas Oyama. Taikiken has some interesting similarities with Peekaboo in its lateral footwork and aggressive forward movement, and it is derived from a Chinese style that was influenced by Western boxing. Apologies for the geeky question, but can you shine any light on this history?
    Thanks again for the great instruction. Cheers!

    • @peekabooboxingacademy
      @peekabooboxingacademy  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Glad you’ve gotten value from the channel! As for your questions;
      1 / Anybody can use the Cus style. The style is all about elusive aggression and being exciting. It’s not meant for any particular build. That being said, each fighter should fight to their strengths within the Cus style. If you’re a tall guy, you won’t be weaving in while closing the gap like Mike Tyson, you’ll be using your reach and angles.
      2 / The guys who I learned from learned from Teddy mainly and talked to Cus a lot, but not as nearly as much as Teddy. Cus only came to the gym one day a week usually. So they probably don’t know. But I have heard that as well and I will personally ask Mike and probably do a video on it when I get the chance 🥊

I simply love boxing and want to do it as something I love. I know Patterson was 6'0, but to my very limited knowledge (I could be very wrong on this), it seems like his utilization of the style is very different from that of Tyson. Tyson is my second favorite fighter (behind Ali), and his utilization of the Cus Style "Peekaboo Style" has always intrigued me. He and Cus always spoke about using shorter height to an advantage to be able to get under the opponent and get leverage. So, would this style be appropriate for me? Thanks, and keep up these videos! Hey Carter . 3 slips after the last punch seems kinda predictable, these slips got Mike Tyson KO a couple times, can you explain why 3 slips and not one or two? Ty for the videos. Keep it up 💪

    • @peekabooboxingacademy
      @peekabooboxingacademy  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@mozes3280 Yes of course, good question. In the Cus style, we are a very square and open target, so we train our elusiveness in a very “%110” way, in that we want to be more elusive than whoever it is that we’re fighting. If we can consistently slip like that in our training, then as we get more experienced, “less is more” becomes the game plan. Meaning that if we only need to slip once or twice in the actual fight, it’s easy for us and we can keep it up all night.
      Additionally, you don’t want to be predictable. In the beginning of learning the Cus style, we slip in a way that gives us the best chance of missing the punches that will most likely come back at us (as I demonstrate in the Willie bag tutorial). But over time, you’re taught to switch it up to avoid predictability. Move three times after you punch. You can create angles, spring back, move your head, etc. You want to mix and match things in a way that make sense and aren’t predictable, the more experienced you get.
