I was thinking "yeah RIGHT." the whole time. Brutus (excuse me, Hooch is his name now) found his home after that first hour with Asher and the poor human's in total denial!
I'm not keeping him, I'm not keeping him, I'm not keeping him. You sir are a big fat lier. I love your pack. Thank you for changing these animals lives. With very best wishes from Cumbria England.
Why do people lie about the dog when they bring it to the shelter??? It only makes it that much harder for them to get a family! Thank you Lee for giving him an incredible home!
Maybe they didn't lie. Maybe the dog was aggressive towards the man in the household. Maybe the man in the household was abusing the people in the house and the dog was trying to protect them. If the dog was protecting the family members from someone it will do it all of the time not just when the person is being mean. Maybe they did the best thing for the dog and if the people are being abused they should leave as well. Maybe that's why this dog was nice to this guy, this guy was not the one being abusive to the other members of its previous home. What this video does show is that shelters should wipe the slate clean when they receive an animal then form their own opinion for each animal in their shelters. Shelters have no idea why a dog is deemed aggressive in their previous home. Previous owners will leave out the part about being abused by someone in the home, they can not admit to being abused because they are scared of what will happen when they get home.
I dont think he had bad owners per se. They wrote a letter and yes, a letter is no justification that they're good but it could just be that he didnt click with the previous owners for whatever reason(s). Maybe one person in the family treated him badly or maybe he was traumatized by something in the old home and associate it with bad/negative.
@@kobisjeruk I'll reserve judgemental feelings I have, but that kiddos body language speaks volumes. I work with abused dogs as a volunteer (adopted one too) and it's all about how you treat them and show them how you love them and will protect them and take care of them. My rescue was terrified of me when she first saw me, but once we went out on a walk together she changed completely. Within the first 48 hours she fell asleep with her head on my thigh, paws up in the air. Dogs are pretty good judges of character. They may show apprehension and fear with a new person, but once you let them approach you on their own terms, they are pretty darn perceptive of a person's intentions for the most part.
@@FWDSUXARSE It was the fear of the doorway for me. That brief moment of hesitance. My dog has some form of trauma (I think she might've lived in a cage her whole life before Hurricane Harvey liberated her), and years later, she's still a bit nervous around doors. Like she's afraid of what will come through them. And that moment where Hooch hesitated? I think he was afraid of the same thing.
Don’t care being pickup and having his jaw playfully hold and his able to share food with another dog. Yeah previous owner were probably super shitty or don’t know what’s normal or not and what’s aggressive really mean.
Yeah is a very submissive dog if I'm honest don't see him being agreesive what so ever even if they said he was I just don't see it happening I feel they just liked about ot to make it seem like they had a reason to get rid of him when they clearly didn't
It's like the dog I got in the shelter.. mine is pretty nice too.. just not good with smaller dogs for first week or so.. after that mine was fine.. Their just playing which some people think is an aggressive dog.. they just need more attention and love that they've been wanting..
More likely he just had owners who couldn't be bothered to give him the attention and exercise he needed so he just got bored and into mischief. It happens a lot with people who want a pet but don't realize dogs need more than food, pats when you're home, and a house to lounge around.
Beautiful man. Nothing is more attractive than seeing a man that not only loves animals, not only rescues animals BUT HAS A SANCTUARY!!!!! Amazing!! Precious baby Hooch!!! Im pretty such the previous owners made up all that bs about him, idk for what reason, maybe they thought they would get into trouble for surrendering him? People sure are fucking stupid.

@@tyrstark8673 Probably. In many cases people don't begin To understand a dog's behavior or how they should be treated. Some idiots treat the dogs like humans (thinking they are being "loving") to the animals detriment. Some of these nasty hefers are intimate with their dogs and that causes big problems for any man that comes around, not to mention the psychological impact on the dog. This scenario is far to common but not talked about....like it's some anomaly 🙄 Big red flag for me some chick says "my dog doesn't like men" 🤔
I had a friend back in my childhood, they had a senior dog that kept it's distance, slept all the time etc. Then when he passed, they got a puppy. The puppy was amazing, but they were so used to their senior dog's behaviour, they viewed the puppy as a bad dog. The puppy grew up to be a normal dog, & they still hated him, kept him outside cause he wanted to greet people & play, cuddle on the furniture (my favorite part of having a dog)... It was awful. Yelling at him for being a normal dog. They gave him away to another family member, a single lady in her 40s. When I found out, I was relieved when I talked to her, & she said she hated the way the poor dog was treated. She cuddled with the good little boy, spoiled him, took him everywhere with her... That lady became a permanent dog lover, & I developed a crush on a much older woman haha... She's 65 now, & I still adore her & her house full of dogs😁💜🙋🐕🐕🐕
I think what Lee meant when he said "I'm not going to keep him" he actually meant I'm not going to keep his name Brutus, and thus changed it to Hooch 😀
His old family must have treated him pretty badly. Rolling around on the floor with him was a winner! Great work loving this great dog. Good for you! You are a beautiful man who has made a wonderful environment for these dogs.
@@JouniKyyronen-nv1ep depends though. Every dog is different. Have to add in the situation and enviroment. When you are told a dog is aggressive. Then that dog comes in unsure and submissive. Aggression is a symptom. So it's different when it's a first meeting with an unsecured dog. The best time to show leadership is during meals and walks. Constantly correcting bad behaviors. Which he did in this video. The dog only needed a verbal warning to deescalate. Showing strength when it matters the most.
You have to follow Lee from The Asher House sanctuary. He's already had a number of Dodo videos - and he has his own channel. He' awesome. What a beautiful dog too. Bizarre that he was labeled aggressive. He's a total sweetheart!
He lets a man straight pick him up like he’s a little puppy. Aggressive?! Naw. His behavior is absolutely uncontrollable. Just pure love and affection flowing out of him.
@Dog Supremacy right?! We always had Chesapeakes growing up and getting them into the truck was always a chore because the second you slipped your arm under their belly they were having NONE OF IT. Like full on attack mode. Hooch looks like an absolute PRO.
Scared or not, that’s the owner’s issue to deal with. It’s not fair to take it out the dog. Maybe they were projecting their fears onto him: that he would become uncontrollable and aggressive. Or maybe they provoked him bc of their fears ("kill them before they kill me" kind of idea). Regardless, that’s the owner’s responsibility to deal with their fears, not the dog. The dog is essentially an innocent child.
@@summer-c7i wrong. you could have pefect owners and pit bulls could still snap at any second. they were BRED to be fighting dogs. i dont think pit/breeds owners understand this. its literally stamped into pitbulls DNA. them not fighting and biting other things is like telling a shark to eat only vegetables. i mean, their name is PITBULL. just think about that for a second.
I was thinking that the husband might've been the "energetic" type of person, to it or perhaps to his wife or daughter, so the dog was just defensive against violence against itself or the women :/ 🤷♂️Buuuut assuming makes an ass out of me, soo, yeah, no clue ^^
My dog was rescued from a domestic violence situation. He was very paranoid that some strange man was going to hurt me. It was very difficult to work through that. If this is what happened with Brutus, it probably actually helped that he was rescued by a sweet, gentle man at a time when he didn’t have a woman or child to protect.
Probably just lied to get rid of the dog, I heard one "Excuse" was the dog didn't match the new decoration in the house, a 12 year old chihuahua I think it was. Some people just lie cos they don't want the dog anymore
@@user-kv6ty7ge8u Well, they don't, but then the owners lie and say the dog hates men or is aggressive (like in this video), aaand they have to. In short - humans suck sometimes.

It really makes you wonder what was going on in that environment for an animal like this to behave aggressively, assuming that was even the case. Every living creature is capable of thriving with love and support.
It kinda feels like they didn't have a good excuse as to why they didn't want him, so they lied and to drill it in more they went over the top with the lie.
Here's one possible scenario. Like all pitties/pittie mixes, Brutus was adorable as a puppy but as he grew, the owners sort of expected him to "raise himself". They did not train him and shape his behavior, and they gave him a scary name. I believe Brutus's owners were actually afraid of him, scared of his energy, and the dog, sensing abandonment, reacted.

@@ajitpandit7350 then thats 100% your fault. Dogs don't bite when they're trained. When they are mismanaged its due to human error. Look at the hundreds of dogs if not 1000's in Costa Rica at that free roam rescue .... no issues there for the most part!!
Brutus was probably acting “aggressive” because there was really bad energy at his previous home. Dogs can sense it and he probably acted up because he didn’t feel safe. So happy he found a place where he’ll be loved. Happy for you Hooch!!!
That's what I'm thinking. The man or men in that other house must have been doing something extremely negative, maybe trying to totally control him in an abusive way. This guy has such great intuition for dogs. "THis is how you let em know you're the strongest in the room" a subtle show of dominance done with love. It's literally AND figuratively "sweeping her off her feet". That desire to trust\surrender and be safe that makes for a good dog.
From the second he saw him there was no hesitation or fear, tail wagging. He’s super friendly. I think the dog sensed he wasn’t with his people and tried to get himself evicted. Thank God he miraculously was at the right shelter at the perfect time.

The ONLY good thing about his previous guardians is that they DIDN'T dump him in an abandoned lot somewhere. One hopes they never get another animal to NOT care for !!!
Sometimes a bad match is just a bad match. The previous pet parents commented that turning him back in was a very difficult decision to make. We don't know how it came about that this overgrown fur ball began exhibiting behavior that was interpreted as aggressive. I tend to think there's something the previous pet parents did or didn't do that led to this decision. Maybe they had small kids. There’s nothing wrong with this dog at all. He’s a very good dog. He’s so well behave, affectionate & gentle. His previous owners were the problem & the bad ones. They dont deserve to own a dog.
How i judge dog is how I see the owner. If the owner doesn't look stable I know the dog is a problem because of it's owner. Some people just don't deserve dogs.
You can see the relief and feeling of gratitude flood over this dog. I really believe there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. This guy looked like a happy, loving, loyal companion from the minute he met Lee so I don't know what was going on at his former home but I'm thrilled he's out of there! He hit the doggie JACKPOT!

Yup, and if the previous owners couldn’t afford to take care of him but were embarrassed, I doubt they would go on how mean the dog is. @@TheInspire96 They either lied, or they always put that pup in situations where he felt unsafe & defensive. They said he "wasn't good around men", which I think is code for a guy in the house treated him horribly

"This dog is aggressive." Dog: If you friend me, I will aggressively reciprocate, If you play with me, I will aggressively tail wag, If you feed me, I will aggressively rejoice, If you don't cuddle me, I will aggressively sulk.
This dog is phenomenally well behaved. Sweet, gentle, polite. Makes you wonder what sort of environment he was in before for him to be deemed dangerous (unless his previous humans were just liars). I'm starting to really respect that most "dog aggression" comes from fear, overstimulation, or misunderstandings. When you know how to treat them right, as this man does, they show that their true nature is not aggression, but love.
Im betting all the things the previous owners said were lies because even if they did abuse the dog to get aggression out of it, the dog would’ve showed fear when he came to visit.
Very true. Do you want a pet? Then make sure *you* understand all that comes with it! Do you have the time? Do you have the love? Do you have the money? Do you have the environment for one to live in? It's not that hard to do the math. :)

Previous owner: "Yeah he doesn't like men." Doesn't like men? Or doesn't like YOU? That abandonment message is definitely suspicious given just how sweet he is. I thought when they said they "couldn't take it anymore" that maybe he was just a big loveable dog that didn't know his strength and just needed to be trained but he was actually pretty disciplined.
Yeah, a big goofball who needed lots of exercise and always wanted to play. Hooch is so obviously a good natured, easy going, boy. Some people really don't have a clue about dog behaviour. I know a woman who was terrified of the King Charles pup her husband got. She deemed it aggressive for just mouthing her or ragging on a slipper.
Direct translation of that message: We bought a dog on a whim because we were bored and didn't think we had to actually care for it aside from leaving it some food and water.

They probably were hurting the dog because no way he was aggressive without being provoked
I think they just wanted to have a reason besides just not wanting him. So they lied saying he was aggressive to feel better about bringing him back
Totally agree there with you.
Because they don't want to admit why the dog was probably acting "aggressively" ie most likely abusing him or treating him poorly

To think that this sweet dog didn't connect with anyone in his former house is sad. All he needed clearly was a good owner.
I agree. He wasn't a bad dog, he just had bad former guardians.
Word
The family gave up the dog because of aggressive face licking, obviously.
“I’m not gonna keep him, I’m not gonna keep him...” Brutus had you at hello.

@cqvio doli I understand why they were afraid.

I have come across people who lied when they released a dog. Interesting the shelter did not immediately put him down...thankfully.
Makes me scared that there is a man in the house abusing a human, if the story was truthful.

You did it again Lee! We love you and your furry kids!!!
Lee Asher is an awesome human being. Any doggo that is either rescued or fostered by him is going to be loved. He has such a big heart.
He’s truly such a wonderful guy. This dog hit the jackpot
I want to be reincarnated as one of Lee’s dogs 😂
OMG 😲 America has its version of Takis 😱 This is so awesome!!
For anyone who doesn't know the Takis Shelter is a shelter in Greece (I think correct me if I'm wrong) the guy who runs it has a heart of gold! He finds cats and dogs in what's basically dumps like literally piles of garbage everywhere in the wilderness, on the streets and what not and nurses them back to health! I really don't know why I watch these videos I always end up crying happy tears.
Agreed 👍💯
Dog…what’s with adults speaking like children? Doggy…kiddo…so stupid, I’m sorry
@@Paige-pk8dr We love to hear about the kind-hearted animal lovers all over the world. Thanks for all that you do on behalf of the dear animals.
The ONLY good thing about his previous guardians is that they DIDN'T dump him in an abandoned lot somewhere. One hopes they never get another animal to NOT care for !!!
Yes I agree I've watched enough of animal Cops to know at least they did one thing right
Sometimes a bad match is just a bad match. We all know how small kids can be with pets if they're not taught how to behave properly. I'm just so glad this story has a happy ending.
@@kathyflood6421 Freud: sometimes a cigar is just a cigar? No, sorry, after 55+ years of rescue, there is no way that this dog couldn't have been integrated into the family. I apologize if you think that's a judgement, but those of us in rescue have to make those kinds of judgments all the time. Still, if they didn't want this dog for whatever reason, it's better that they turned it over, as opposed to turning it loose.
@@carolwilliams7052 I agree, and that's what I meant when I said the problem was likely something the previous owners did or didn't do that led to the failure of the relationship. Some people expect to bring a dog into their home who is ready to live by their rules and get along with all the other people and pets who already live there, with no adjustment period, then they get frustrated and give up when it doesn't work out that way. I should have expressed my thoughts more clearly. Thank you and bless you for dedicating your life to rescuing helpless, innocent animals. I hope the rewards are greater than the heartache.
@@kathyflood6421 - - YES !!! Adjustment. It's the name of the integration game. Thank you for your kind words, kathy. Every rescue has had its own rewards !!!

Yes! You know when Lee falls in love with a dog, that's it. He's keeping it.
How could anybody not love that sweet dog---- ❤
I think Kai was barking only because he wanted to let Brutus know that he's not a chicken nugget.

We adopted an Alaskan Malamute that we were told was a noisy, bossy, misbehaved dog. We gave her a house, food, lots of love, the medical attention she desperately needed, a large fenced yard to play in, and a companion. She was the sweetest dog I've ever known!
Thank god there are people like you, to give these dogs a chance. Thank you. All the best from Scotland.
@SUFYB: Malamutes are gorgeous dogs!
She probably was neglected! Dogs need human closeness, not just a yard and food!
Strong evidence that fails are usually due to the adopters' inadequacy, not the dogs' behavior.
Lovely, Lovely person, You.
"Aggressive and doesn't like men. We don't feel safe in our own home"
Random strange man: hovers over, grabs side of face, puts face in face, maintains eye contact
Brutus: excited tail wagging and not one sign of tightening up as if to attack
It tells you everything you need to know about his previous situation.
The owners either were huge liars. Or were mistreating this huge baby, or Brutus was no longer convenient wanting to be rid of him. The ass hats also set him up to be put down based on allegations he was aggressive. Nothing I saw indicated any aggression.
@@autumninvirginia1229 They probably just didn't give him attention, worked alot. When they got home he'd get excited, jump on them - if they had kids then they'd probably be tossed around.
It's a big dog, it's easy to mistake excitement for aggression. But yeh no they shouldn't own any pets if they called him "aggressive".
Well maybe they returned him because they wanted a dog that protects the house not everyone wants a dog for love don’t forget dogs were made for protection back then now they are just for loving just cause you love when they jump on you and lick you and give you attention cause no one else’s will doesn’t mean some other person is looking to buy them for licks and love there have been times when a dog jumps on the owner for love but can hurt the owner and result in them thinking it could be violent you never know the full story. Enjoy your day
@@theworld1770 point taken but most dogs bark at strangers ect. They are a great alarm system but if the door or window is breached it is up to the human . Dogs at best only buy time.
He came right up to your face and gave kisses!!! That shows how sweet and NOT aggressive he is! 🥰🥺🥺
"Aggressive"? "He doesn't like men" ? this same thing was said to me when I adopted my Cane Corso but she was all over me. She has always been a loving dog, but one day she met a guy at the park and became stand-offish and when he raised his voice at me about her, she became very protective. I've taken her to many places with tons of people and men she loved for hugs and belly rubs. I have a neighbor who she has been loving too but one day also got very protective of me, well turns out he had been drinking. Since then discovered anyone that been drinking she does not like. Did some research found the previous owner was an aggressive drunk and she was only getting in between him and family when he was drunk, all I can say 6 years later she still the same loves us and just keep away from heavy drinkers. And to the previous family, you got rid of the wrong animal.
That's a popular thing to say now.
Yes they did
Same happened
Very attractive young woman came in with a beautiful male German shepherd that she raised from a pup
She brought him in because she said, and i quote, "My fiance and I were arguing and when he got in my face, my dog wedged himself between us and got in my fiance's face. So my fiance said I have to get rid of the dog...'
She told that story to four women and one man.
It was the MAN among us that clarified with this woman...
"So your fiance was in your FACE, your dog physically put himself between the two of you, to protect YOU, and you're surrendering the dog instead of breaking it off with your fiance???'

Just love Lee so much. His confidence with the dogs is contagious. He's made the world better... along with everyone else who's good to animals.
Blessings to everyone ❤😊
There’s nothing wrong with this dog at all. He’s a very good dog. He’s so well behave, affectionate & gentle. His previous owners were the problem & the bad ones. They dont deserve to own a dog.
The problems walks at the end of the line in 99 % of the cases!
There’s no such thing as bad dogs, just bad owners.
How i judge dog is how I see the owner. If the owner doesn't look stable I know the dog is a problem because of it's owner. Some people just don't deserve dogs.
Sure don't. I was just saying that this boy didn't like THEM, not the other way around. He's just plain ADORABLE! 💓💓💓
He probably didn't like having to be the alpha in the old house. He was so comfortable falling in to the pack.
Obviously Brutus and his previous family were not a good fit. I don't know why, but I am grateful that they took him back to a shelter instead of dumping him somewhere.
And big props to Lee for adopting Hooch (Brutus)!!
I'm guessing the previous household subscribed to the dominance theory and wound up learning the hard way its bullshit.
They may have had a baby or another actually aggressive dog. Big dogs like that may get aggressive if they don’t have a lot of space and excerise. ( At least from what I know )
But they lied about Brutus. He is a sweet dog and they said he was aggressive. They were trying to get him killed. Those people need to be charged.
@@jeepmanxj They tried to get Brutus killed.
@@bonchidude you reached so hard and so far for that I hope you didn't throw out your back.
I am 99% confident it was piss poor training technique. Trying to dominate a dog ends up with a dog that's agressive with you and others. Positive reinforcement and a gentle hand shows the dog the situation isn't hostile and it's not a fight for it's life.
Okay, easy to see that ending coming!! Love this guy's love for dogs, he is amazing!! I'm glad that Hooch found himself a better family and a better name! He is adorable!
“I’m not gonna keep Brutus. I’ll take Hooch though.” A perfect loophole to the promise😂
"We've surrendered this dog because he's aggressive" - followed by 5 minutes of the friendliest, least aggressive marshmallow of a dog I've ever seen.

The only reason they couldn’t handle him clearly wasn’t because of aggression but because of who they were.
Agree
Yep, he was with the wrong people. Bless his heart❤️
He was probably stuck in a small house with no human or dog company most of the time, and little exercise.
Probably, the previous owners were bullying Brutus ...
@@analives13 was thinking that too.
Brutus was probably scared his whole life and he just finally found his people. His pack.
nah owners just didn't wanna look like the bad guys so they lied.
Yup, and if the previous owners couldn’t afford to take care of him but were embarrassed, I doubt they would go on how mean the dog is. That implies they actually care for the dog + want him to be re-homed. Their language was potentially damning him never to be adopted. I mean, he was adopted, but thankfully, they gave the dog a chance + not take the previous owners at their word.
Brutus may have been scared of his previous owners. Maybe they didn’t treat him well! From the way the dog acts + their note, I think them not treating him well is the likelier case. They’re all too eager to put the full blame on the dog.
@@TheInspire96 They either lied, or they always put that pup in situations where he felt unsafe & defensive. They said he "wasn't good around men", which I think is code for a guy in the house treated him horribly
This lovely soul is the same guy who took in Tony, the overweight German shepherd and slimmed him down whilst also showing him what love truly is. So seeing him with Brutus I know for a fact that he's found the perfect person to give him the perfect life!
he just adopted another dog that he's putting on a diet. He said he's not going to keep that one either.

Dogs are aggressive when treated aggressively by their owners!
Cute
This dog is phenomenally well behaved. Sweet, gentle, polite. Makes you wonder what sort of environment he was in before for him to be deemed dangerous (unless his previous humans were just liars). I'm starting to really respect that most "dog aggression" comes from fear, overstimulation, or misunderstandings. When you know how to treat them right, as this man does, they show that their true nature is not aggression, but love.
I absolutely agree. Fear is a response often times to other aggression. No dog is just born being aggressive all the time.
Im betting all the things the previous owners said were lies because even if they did abuse the dog to get aggression out of it, the dog would’ve showed fear when he came to visit.
I'm thinking the previous owners were morons and liars
Very true.
Do you want a pet?
Then make sure *you* understand all that comes with it!
Do you have the time?
Do you have the love?
Do you have the money?
Do you have the environment for one to live in?
It's not that hard to do the math. :)

Hello Florence how are you doing today ?
Brutus is the most docile, loving well behaved "uncontrollable" dog I have ever seen. What was he doing to his previous owners? Loving them too much? Their loss is your gain my man, hope you guys have many happy years together.
Two possibilities: Either they let him go nuts and eventually couldn't cope, or they lied. Lying is easy.
I think the best thing they ever did for Brutus was surrender him. He's won Doggy Lotto.
Previous owner: "Yeah he doesn't like men."
Doesn't like men?
Direct translation of that message:
We bought a dog on a whim because we were bored and didn't think we had to actually care for it aside from leaving it some food and water.
Some people are not meant to have pets, this did could had been euthanized because of that letter.
Boom!! Exactly!! They had funky energy!! Why would he want to live in crappy energy ! I wouldn’t ! His forever home is amazing and his new Dad is the BEST!!!
