After I retired, I got a part time job at a grocery store. There were 3 girls named Brandi, all pretty young. Over time in the break room I asked them if they knew this song? Two of them told me they were named after it.
It must have made an impression on the parents (who would have been my age).
I was in the small studio audience at the live local NYC broadcast of the Labor Day Telethon in the fall of 72. Looking Glass performed this song live for us. It was pretty cool to see them do it while the song was hot. (yes, I'm 70)
The music was amazing in the 70’s …. Every genre!
I remember Hee Haw too.
So true and it was all free. All you had to do was turn on a radio or a t.v. I do miss those things. I don't miss everything, but that part was great.
@@dizastro5437 Facts I grew on the south side of Chicago and our family watched it every week, I knew all their names lol
BEST OHW on the planet EVER. I'm a retired Sailor so this is right down my alley. 👌
I've never seen or met anyone NOT enjoy this song.😎
Timeless song, tells the story of lost love.
All us old folk know every word. This song is so beloved. Sad love song with a beautiful groove. Brandi your a fine girl.
Oh stop. You are never old until only your own stories are the end of it.
One of my childhood songs that always seemed to be on the radio. One hit wonder
Lol Biz this is a classic, heard this one a million times on the radio back when radio was a thing. Still love it, it's a great song.
I love this song, takes me back to my younger days. Great reaction!
Great pull BizMan!!!!! One of the greatest one hit wonders of all time!!!! Thanks for for a bit of the 70’s!!!!! So says Ausin Tx!!!!!❤️😎🍸
I'm 60 years old and that is still the only song I've heard from the Looking Glass too.
😂
This is a beloved, nostalgic song for so many of us. Lots of girls (and dogs) were named after this song for a generation,
Now we're talkin' ☺
I'm 72 and in 1963 John Wayne starred in a movie called Hatari. There was a female actress named Brandy. Iloved the name and then this song came out 10 yrs later and brought the name back into my head. In '78 my wife and I named our baby girl Brandi.
This song was huge. I think it played every half hour for 2 years!!!@😂😂😂🎉
One of the absolute classic 70’s song. Takes me immediately back to family vacations at the beach when I was a kid. Thanks for this one Biz. Not sure they have any other songs that are as good.
Fond memories of the summer of 72 on a cross-country family trip when this was a big hit on the radio.. great reaction !
😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉 BIZMATIK YOU ARE TOO CUTE!...
This is such a wonderful song about truth in a guy who didn't want to hold a really sweet girl back from finding her best life.
Had a cool bus driver when I was a kid and she liked the radio. Remember hearing this one alot
I was 12 and this came out, and have loved it ever since. Just a great groove. 72 was an amazing year for popular music. I fell in love with Steely Dan that year also! Like the song says those were the days! Thanks for hitting this one! ✌️❤️🤘🥁
Same here.
Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) is a great song & was the biggest hit for Looking Glass in 1972. They also released the song "Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne" the next year. But didn't do too much else after that.
My dad listened to tHis on our stereo wHen I was a kid. Still love it to tHis day.
Old School. This is Music. Rock and Roll.
🎉🎉🎉🎉 I ENJOY BEING WITH YOU ON THESE LISTENING VIBING LIVES! 👍👍👍👍👍🙏
Absolutely love this song. Worked with a great gal named Brandy and when she would walk in the door, a co-worker and I would start singing this to her. This was their main one-hit-wonder, but they still had some good songs that just didn't get the airplay.
AM GOLD
Great tune Biz! You might want to react to Me & Mrs. Jones by Billy Paul RIP.
The most succinct breakdown of a song I’ve heard. Brilliant.
Thanks Fam
Hard to find a truly honest man.
It was the favorite song of a high school friend of mine. Every time I hear it, I believe she is saying hello from her wanderings on the other side of the veil.
Lol, Biz you amuse me with your embellishments to the shlyrics.
😂😂😂
🎉🎉🎉🎉 LOVE THIS SONG!! 🎉🎉🎉
This was a "never change the dial" when it came on the radio in the 70's. Nice job Biz...
Thanks Fam
You get it! I’m so stoked. Some people listen to and are like.. “Is Brandy a metaphor? Cuz nobody would choose the ocean over a girl.” 🤦🏽♀️ Like… people do. That means they can hook up with as many people as they want, while still following their dreams.
I love this song!! I remember this coming on the radio and we all knew the words singing as loud as we could. LOL. Great reaction
Thank you
I love your reaction to this song it was genuine ! love it and by the way it is a very damn good story. but sad because she was in love with him.
As a retired Sailor, this song resonated with me. My wife will tell you that for a fact that my life, my love and my lady were the sea. I knew several sailors with wives named Brandy in some sort of spelling.
Oh to be back in the 1970’s, beach, fire, good friends and some
Primo smoke
LOVE this classic!❤
A good counterpoint to this sweet song would be "Rene (the dockers delight)" by the Small Faces off their masterpiece album Ogden's Nut Gone Flake.
"It's Rene, the dockers delight. Her ship's in everynight
groping with a stoker from the coast of Kuala Lumpur
Love is like a hole in the wall,
a line up in the warehouse no trouble at all
If you have the money, you'll have a ball
She'll have your oars out!"
A much happier ending for all, and a rockin song to boot. Warning: a bit risque 🤭😉
Another band from around this time that you might want to check out, England Dan and John Ford Coley was a good listen, just like Looking Glass.
This is an almost perfect song. Check out Funky Broadway by Wilson Pickett for an unforgettable groove!
WILSON PICKETT-MUSTANG SALLY 🚗
Again great interpretations of the lyrics. Thank you!
My name was almost Brandy because my Mom loved this song! Lol.. ❤
Fun song Biz but they're one hit wonders so enjoy some Brandy
Just a Grove ✌️☕
Those background response harmonies make the song.
I remember seeing this band playing Brandy on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, NJ. Oh my, I dated myself. 😅
Best description of the songs meaning ever Biz! Haha 😅
Oh Wow Thank You
A classic tune!
Great analysis of the song! Oh, the visual was good too. 😂
😂😂 Thanks
I slways like this song.
It's visual and rhythmic.
They dold a lot of 45 rpm records in 1972.
Great old early 70s song. Looking Glass were "One Hit wonders".
Great reaction!
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho! Haven't thought of that book in years. What an incredible book it was. Thanks for the reminder, and thanks for reacting to Brandy
Thats My Favorite book
Good analysis!👍🙂
Thanks! 🙂
I'm not 100% but I'm 99.99% Looking Glass was a one hit wonder, their still in the music industry but behind the scenes. This is why I love your channel because you pay attention to the lyrics and know what the music is about. I heard one reactor say it was a good song but he doesn't believe in affairs 😮 HOW THE HELL DO YOU HAVE AN AFFAIR ON A SEA!!!! Another reactor said "it's sad that she couldn't be with the man she loved but at least she found another man who was good to her and even bought her jewelry" I had to smack myself on the side of my head to uncross my eyes. Another great reaction to a song from my teen yrs. WHERE EVERYDAY WAS A DANCE PARTY TO AWESOME MUSIC!!
Oh they kill me with the reactions. Dear Lord, if there's a video....these young folks are very literal. It can be quite amusing sometimes.😂
Brandy is looking for him to this day. He owes a lot in child support.
😂😂😂😂 Thats Hilarious
Named daughter Brandy because I liked the song
I forgot this song! Such a sad story the sailor chose the sea over her.
This song was my favorite as a little girl. I always hoped it would have a happier ending 😉 Catchy tune. One hit wonder band, unfortunately.
love your analogy to fatima & santiago. Pretty deep man.
Thanks Thats my favorite book
Your commentary on this one kills me! Lol
😂
There is a newer version of this by same artist, but it's a acoustic version.I think it's actully better than his original
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥😎
Im just lucky today. Great tune, and I mean large, huge, an epic story. If I was doing any better, I'd be the man that Brandy loved. Fml...
Encore! Encore!
I like a girl named Rum, but I think she is trying to end me.
But my wife doesnt know about the south of Spain. She likes Tiffanys, so I do what I can.
When you said Ewww. 😂
😂😂😆
These boys are from my alma mater Rutgers.
I don’t see it that way. I was named after this song by my grandfather, but he died right before I was born. He said that if I was a girl that my parents had to name me Brandy because it was the most beautiful name in the world.
She was special and rare. She was down to earth. She had beautiful eyes that couldn’t hide a thing. She was honest, and respected honesty. Being lied to is cruel. She was the real deal, and that was obvious to the people she spent time with.
She was passionate, but she was also a realist.
He was honest. He couldn’t give to her what she needed because he didn’t have it to give.
She had no choice but to accept it. It didn’t make her love him less. So she lived her life alone. What other choice was there?
What a waste of love. And what the sailors were saying was that it was just a shame that she was a special girl who was going to waste her life on nothing.
If you'd like to see a great psychological horror movie on this theme, check out "The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea." I could try to give you a sense of what it's about, but that would be pointless. It's strange and unsettling, it's great.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 used this song in its soundtrack to good effect. Groot!
Little River Band - Cool Change
The Royal Guardsmen " Snoopy verse the Red Baron" 1966
There is a Christmas version called "Snoopy verse the Red Baron, Christmas bells" also. Need to listen to Snoopy verse the Red Baron first
AM gold🏅
Pretty much a really good song. I believe this was their only 'hit'. I have a recollection of them lip-syncing on 'American Band Stand'.
Great song, but you know the premise is a fantasy. A guy has a hot lady he can be with but prefers a bunch of guys on a boat? Right.
One hit wonder
Crazy that these dudes are white!
Great take. New sub here
Great tune my man
I love your reaction to this song it was genuine ! love it and by the way it is a very damn good story. but sad because she was in love with him.
