This was the first "Solo Guitar God" type song I ever heard, and it's one of the songs that inspired me to pick up the guitar. That was nearly 30 years ago. I'm still not that good, but the guitar has been good to me these last 28 years, so thanks, Joe.

Not just notes (of course lot of notes), but CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY. it is crazy playing. So melodic too at the same time. Speed, technicality, blues, phrases, rhythmic, harmonics, crazy whammy, you name it, it is all there in 1 song. That too, so exotically beautiful.

Most people would have no idea how difficult that performance is and it was almost flawless. Satch is the King of Tunes. And a superb human too.

I remember watching Satriani back in the 80’s and just marveling at all of the aspects of his playing. At 49 I sit here thinking man nothing has changed, this guy is still an amazingly, tasty, bluesy, technical wizard on guitar!
Yes glad he is still doing it , its a timeless feeling to get to see Joe after all these years I to being in my 50s still draw good vibes from this dude, never stop Joe go go go!
Man his sound/tone sounded so great. The wah was perfect, very excellent.
That tapped me right in the feels. Not a religious person, but I believe in positive energy. Satriani explodes with it through his music.
The sounds he is getting out of that thing are just amazing! He's just unbelievably beautiful!
I think the thing that sets Joe apart from all other instrumental only guitar players is that HE JUST FLAT OUT WRITES GOOD TUNES !! This being no exception.
He is a master of melody, no doubt about it.
And his creativity is unparalleled
Nintariz I say the same thing about Jimi Hendrix. I think he’s been surpassed, but he was the first. For that matter, Joe Satriani quit football and dedicated his life to the guitar when he heard that Hendrix died.
I appreciate steve vais skill and speed and everything he does is amazing technically speaking but joe for me is number 1, his music is so much better on the ear than steves is, even tho vai is a techical genius, like his teacher joe, joes musical knowledge is far greater than steves in my opinion and u can tell through his music he is the king of melody no doubt about that and my number 1 guitarist of all time
Absolutely..many guys out there can play fast and are technically brilliant, but few can actually compose a beautiful sounding song on a guitar from start to finish as well!

This 'concert' really shows just how awesome Satch's technique is. His legato, his control, his bends, man... has Satch ever 'missed' a bend? His control is amazing.

Satch in undoubtedly as important as EVH for modern guitar. He takes it to another level with his fretboard art. I think he might even be one of the most technically proficient ever.
I'd be happy to be able play 10% of this song. I've seen him in UK a couple of times but this is the best view yet. Love it.

They were too amazed to move. That's what happens at a Joe concert. You sit there perfectly still and quiet, so you don't miss a single note. It's like nothing you've seen. Well, that's how it was when I've seen Joe live.

Satchnmay not be a total shredder, but he plays like no other. He puts so much feeling into his song, its awesome.
But he IS a total shredder. Check "Flying in a blue dream" about 1:45 into it.
Satriani is not a shredder, but he has some great tunes. I could name a lot of guys that "shred" and Satriani is not one of them. He is a solid performer though, and puts a lot thought into his work.

My definition of shredder is someone who plays a million miles an hour cleanly yet is boring as fuck to listen to. Satriani is not boring.

I'm totally with you. He can play very fast and fluid but he's always more musical than the so called shredders. I mean I don't think his goal is to show off, but to share what he's got in soul....I don't smoke , by the way; :)
It's like you've got your ear pressed to the speaker and you can hear every note and he's still playing it perfectly.

When the camera pans the audience I just can't believe how stoic they are!! Joe is the ultimate guitar GOD and they're just looking at him like that scene in Back To The Future when Michael J. Fox plays Chuck Berry and they have no idea what the hell it is!! :-o
I know! I don't care WHAT type of audience is hearing this, there should be someone looking somewhat pleased.
In their defense (if I may be so bold, lol), it does appear to be a classroom setting instead of a concert setting. And, they did seem to appreciate his playing with some enthusiastic applause at the end. But again, not like a concert.
That's the price that technologies bring. Yeah, they help in many ways but the "feel" is missing from the place. Its the human element that makes music...and they should have turned the lights down except on him...
I saw this tour live back in the day and it was not nearly so mechanical - although he is freaking better now than then, even.

Tom Fortin it´s easy... he´s just a guitar god... but his music don´t transmit nothing "more" than how good and technical he is. He could name this song summer in venus, or walking in the moon insteado summer song, and you won´t see any difference. Music is a question of transmit moods, identify your sensations with the music, to tell something.. and people even freaky guitar fans are never identified with his songs... could you go walking through the street whistling this song as a a feeling of summer???? You are simply impressed by his mastering of guitar, so that´s why people just simply watch.. but music is much more than that... there has to be a story to tell, and Satriani as other guitar herores have only one story to tell, that is, they are "gods" technically, nothing more. Just fireworks. Unless he is a real source of inspiration and learning for other musicians more "limited".

I don't think he is admired as much for his incredible technique as he is for his profound lyrical ability. Pure genius.

Guess you've never been to one of his concerts. There are a few tunes that require audience participation, but mostly you just sit there trying to comprehend (and not drool on yourself). Any gratuitous noise making is just an insult to the artist.

+ben6993 Sorry can't agree here, the venue is Irrelevant, saw Tony Bennett in a "Theater" and he got 4 standing ovations because he was that good for his music, and an icon. So, Joe deserves no more or less for his place and his playing that day. I guess it is what you are brought to do in concerts, definitely seeing a pattern with age on this one, and I am only ten years younger than Joe S. Just embarrassing, but I doubt he will play there again:)

To see that song performed live with all the nuances and phrasing is awesome. His efficiency on the neck is unparalleled. Taking nothing away from shredders, his flurry of notes is like an intricate carving versus a whittled stick.
Finally a director that knows that when the lead guitarist starts playing we don't want to see the lead singer banging his head.
Awesome... the guy still blows my mind! His grasp of tonality is astonishing and physical ability/technique is just mind-boggling.

Have any of you ever attended a music workshop?....A guitar workshop?.....THAT'S a crowd of GUITAR players in awe, and studying the techniques, and just as Joe said, how to use ONE guitar, to hold the audiences attention, as well as demonstrate a solid understanding of WAH pedal mechanics, and pedal points. It's not a Rock concert, it's an instructional seminar, that just happens to be Joe Satriani on guitar..........I actually love these workshops, as you get to watch the guitarist perform their songs, showcasing technique, melodic improvisation, and just DAMN GOOD guitar playing!...To attend these workshops, and jump up and down, and act like it's a concert at a festival is RUDE, CLASSLESS, AND DISRESPECTFUL TO THE ARTIST.
That's because this is like a physics class to them, he's talking and I suppose sort of teaching. He's not there to put on a typical concert, so that's why they are so composed. It's respect, not boredom.
