Thin areas in socks or even downright holes: Highly recommend Katrinkles Darning and Mending Looms. I use the "Smaller Darning Loom" with the Heddle Expansion Pack. Easy peasy to use. Worth every penny. Fast. And can be used for commercial socks or handmade socks. Beats all other methods I've tried over the years. Love it when you show the socks or socks-in-progress that you're both knitting, Corinne and Maggie!

I have a plan to use some of the 100% non super wash wool sock yarn I have purchased from The Wooly Thistle when I participate in The Crazy Sock Lady's Summer Sock Camp. Having only knit socks with super wash / nylon yarn so far, I am very keen to have some 100% non super wash wool socks in my sock drawer. And I suspect I will soon be a convert. 🙂
