      ShadowDurza From what I know of behavioral economics, the value only stops existing if people don’t believe the currency will be valued. So as long as any sufficiently large group of people treat it as valid, then the scrap of paper with a 1 is valued at 1. For Rick’s plan to work, the Galactic gvt must be centralized to an insane degree and somehow communicate the currency value with no info gaps. Really cool idea.
      Fortunately the current economic system is too decentralized so even if the entire US got Thanos’d, the dollar would still have some value. Not what it is now, but some. Goes to show as complicated as global systems are, they’re complicated for a reason. Look at all the worries EU nations have had sharing a currency with a fluctuating value based on the actions of peers. Neither system is perfect, but by George, humans make it work. Can’t say the same for these bugs.

    @VanguardJester 4 ปีที่แล้ว +481

    ok, to be real though, the easiest solution to "the one is now a zero" is simply: Do nothing! If the public doesn't know that their money is worth nothing now, they will continue to act and spend money as if nothing changed at all. Likewise, you can do the same and spend/receive currency as if nothing has happened. Something only has value if people say it has value, the economy would have been perfectly fine if they just didn't panic.

    • @frag2k12
      @frag2k12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      Wouldn't that solution fall apart when the stock exchange opens? Even with a singular currency it would be tracked by traders and in a galaxy the exchange should be active 24/7 which means the investors and such would know the truth before even the governement on account of how quickly they need to react to changes in the economy. It would be like the Wall Street crash of 1929 investors killing themselves only much worse, the news would report it until they realised they were not being paid the public would know whats up initially but then be in the dark and chaos assumes.

    • @zytolen5356
      @zytolen5356 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'm not sure that would work, you know there's a reason why there's a variable value of the currency depending on the imports and exports to other galaxies, so, if the currency dropped to zero the other galaxy literly could buy everything in this and they will die of hunger unless they change their economy to be solely depending on the galaxy itself and that will result to a galactic war somewhen in the future.
