There are so many signs when rewatching this episode that they were still in a simulation. One that I noticed was that, when mixing the caesium and plutonic quartz, morty got the parts right without asking any questions, and then shock the bucket without an instruction too, as if he had made it before. But IMO that seems very odd for a morty, who in danger panics, to get it all right and stay calm in the situation.

I like how these guys were somewhat successful on tricking rick as he didn’t know for sure what was real.
