It would have been better if they tucked the rear wiper underneath the rear spoiler for a cleaner look. I suppose it is to make sure the people, who threw a tantrum about the car not having it before, see the wiper at first glance.
I guess it's because the spoiler has openings at the top. They actually had to increase the battery sizes because of the reduced range the wiper created because of it disrupting the air flow/increased drag coefficient.
I dont understand all the rear wiper fuzz. Drove approx. 800k km in cars and only one had a rear wiper. A Peugeot 306 diesel ym2000. What 's the point? You have been there, no? You don't have to look back. And when reversing there's a camera and sensors. Oh yes, dont forget your door review mirrors. They're also there for a purpose.
Thoroughly enjoyed my 2-year lease with Ioniq 5 - my only major complaint was with the software - did they improve that? Looks like they changed the trim on the sides and rear with matt black plastic - should be less prone to scratches than the silver trim.

No doubt : the ioniq 5 ! 3 years ago, I could choose between model Y and Ioniq5, and I drove them both. My verdict is without hesitation after 3 years. On Ioniq 5 side, the best of breed aspects are : charging, design, and OUSTANDING build quality to which the Model Y is incapable to compete. On Model Y side : the best electric efficiency on the planet, full self driving and outstanding software. But personaly, I am completely allergic to its design, only the model S is elegant. And model 3 just "OK"
@@cypvh74and who is it ? BYD ? Not at all.. Tesla is the only carmaker capable to achieve 16.5 kWh for 100km, = 265 Wh per mile. NOBODY is at this level. That's a fact.
I tried one back in 2021 when I was looking at a family EV as a company car, along with an Enyaq and Q4. I remember it being huge inside, very smooth and easy to drive but had an odd shaped boot - very tapered and shallow. Ultimately I ordered a Q4 due to the deal at the time. Fast forward and I’ll be changing cars next year and this is now one of the cheapest large EV’s on my scheme. I still love the looks and the basic one in red comes in under the £40,000 luxury tax band, so it will definitely be on my shopping list again.
We have the Model Y and it is a great car in many ways - it just works, effortlessly, without niggles but with so much space, pace and tech. However, we would not buy from Elon again. Also, where the Y is lagging behind is exactly where the Ionic 5 shines: Design, ride, noise levels, lack of buttons. I also prefer the slightly less SUV-ish shape. Would definately consider the 5 for our next car. We have a Honda e as a second car and they would in many ways match each other.
The sliding centre console (in combination with the flat floor front and rear) is a massive plus for the Ioniq 5. Here's why: when you're going on your holidays and you need to provide your family with meals on the move, you can fit a coolbox on the floor in the rear for really accessible fresh food, just as we could in our old Citren Xsara and C4 Picassos, if the console is slid all the way forward. No other (5 seat) EV can do that. You have to put the coolbox on the back seat, making rear seat passengers decidedly cramped. Even better, if you slide the console all the way back, there's space for a coolbox to the right of the passenger's legs, so you can dish out for without having to twist right round to fish about in the coolbox. And no, it can't slide across and obstruct the driver's feet. You can do that in an Ariya with a sliding console as well, but it's less stable because there's a bump in the floor, and it's less well restrained from sliding to the driver's side. If you're driving non-stop from Scotland to the south of France, or even just to Cornwall, that makes a massive difference to the ease of the journey.
My Bluelink doesn’t work on my car and the dealer / Bluelink are not sure how to fix it. My company said we will send it back but I didn’t want to wait for another car. They said they have Tesla Model Y’s available if I would prefer that. I used to have a Model 3 and I’ve told my work I would rather stick with the Ioniq without Bluelink.
I test drove an IONIQ 5 and it's a lovely car, glad to see it's even better with this version. Too big (and too pricey) for me, but maybe that'll change by the time I buy my next car.
I love it. If it wasn't for the fact I already have a Kia EV6 and I'm planning to downsize when I get my next car (Kia EV3 or Skoda Elroq are on my shortlist so far), I would have considered it.
I think the 2023-24 MY were the best of the bunch, we have a 2024 Ultimate spec. The 23-24 came with a 77.4 kWh battery, up from the launch model's 73 kWh battery, which gave a reasonable increase in range. The interior and exterior styling stayed as per the launch model though, which the wife and I prefer. The pre 25 Ultimate also has more standard kit for the driver, but slightly less in the way of range, due to the larger battery of the 25 MY version. The useful 360° camera and side view camera which was standard on the previous Ultimate are now optional, as are quite a few other bits n pieces. Also sport mode doesn't actually give more actual power, just the throttle response is sharpened up. Even in eco mode, full power is available when planting the throttle. But the pedal is much more progressive than in sport mode. There are also 6 levels of regen on the I-5, just like the Kia EV6. There's auto mode, 0, 1, 2, 3, and I pedal. We just leave ours on auto mode, which is pretty clever at applying regen when needed. In all we love our Ioniq 5, especially as it'll do over the WLTP range if driven with restraint on favourable roads, in favourable weather.
For people living on dirt roads or experiencing winter driving conditions, the lack of a rear window wiper/washer is a non-starter. To pay so much and not be able to see out the rear window? This offering is unacceptable. A pity, it's a beautiful package.
In our experience, the lack of rear wiper is a minor inconvenience. 1/2 of our previous cars haven't had them, so we don't really miss it. The I-5 has a brilliant rear camera (360° view on our Ultimate), so it's not like a wiper is vital.
Nice to see the buttons. The trend for putting everything on a screen may be about to reverse: in 2026, if you want a Euro NCAP five star safety rating, you'll need to have physical controls for basic functions.
Looks like they've taken some things they have implemented on the new Kona into this. I assume it's the CCNC infotainment system and nice to hear Hyundai will be adding data from Google Maps so things will keep up to date including charging station info. So range as James May once said in Roman Catholic, but real world not WLTP, is 450km.
The most interesting review comment came early in the piece and was that this car is bigger than a Landrover Discovery Sport. In our household we already have a Discovery Sport for towing a horse trailer, and I already find it too big for day to day driving, always assuming I am allowed to disconnect the trailer. So with no disrespect to Nikki this might possibly be an urban/suburban mums’ Chelsea tractor to bully your way through the school run rather than a car used by a single driver without passengers. What I do like, which Nikki pointed out, is that Hyundai are doing rapid and continuous improvement to the car. Not for me.
No, they haven't "ruined" it, but I am happy that I bought my 2024 model. The rear window wiper is nice, but you don't really need it with the digital rearview camera. I like my wheels better than these. The 84 kWh battery is an improvement, but it only adds 9 more miles of range to my top-of-the-line AWD. No big deal. While the buttons on the console are welcome, I have a pet peeve against front-to-back cupholders and much prefer my side-by-side ones. I do wish my frunk had that additional room. The only thing I would change in mine is to make i-Pedal constant. It's irritating to have to engage it every time I start the car. Tesla? Hell, I got rid of my Tesla to get my Ioniq 5, which is a much better EV.
@@thomasneely2700 "Sour grapes"…? Not at all. I must've missed how the 2025 model is a "massive" improvement. I have NO "buyer's remorse" with my 2024, but go ahead and snark at me all you want.
I agree, our 24MY Ultimate has more driver kit as standard, nicer wheels, better looking bumpers, and a cleaner looking boot lid. A rear wiper isn't needed, it has good sized door mirrors, and rear view camera if needed. The extra battery capacity of the 25MY adds a bit of extra range, but simply driving with restraint adds range. We can exceed the WLTP range in ours, providing it's driven sensibly. Hyundai did add a rear wiper, and seat heater buttons, the latter is an improvement, but removed the standard 360° and blind spot cameras from the Ultimate model, so for me it's a backwards step.
All these quoted ranges are off the wall i only get 4 miles per kw in the summer. Any calculation over 4miles sounds dubious to me except for the aptera.
This was a top one on my list but back in 2020 the dealerships in Los Angeles were jacking up the prices with add-ons and extra fees over 15% sticker. Just ridiculous. This red isn't a very good color, nor are is the weird cladding. But overall still good. Just remember, Tesla always lies about range. So double check their provided numbers.
The problem with Hyundai is that they’re going SO insane on the safety features that the car screams at you every 2 seconds. So every time you get in the car you have to turn off 3 different alerts.
I have my Ioniq 5 for 2 years now. Honestly I've just set the safety features up just once in the first week I got it. You can simply put the sound volume for warnings you don't like to zero and it will never bother you again. Default setting are indeed to much alerts.
I'd like to see Hyundai redesign the car to remove the juvenile styling elements. Go thinner on the headlights with smaller array of icecube lenses; get rid of the factory pre-dented doors by going smoothe slab side; get rid of the plastic hoops over the wheel arches; design more sophisticated alloys and finally get rid of the ribbed lower side cladding.
Re the digital camera mirrors. Comments I’ve read from owners who have them are positive, is there a IONIQ 5 owner out there who has them with regrets? Is it only those who dread the thought rather than had the experience? Hmm a bit like ICE driver with negative comments towards BEV cars. Centre console. Great if some parks to close to your drivers door! Get in the passenger door slide the console back shimmy over to the drivers seat 😊.
I really like it, but I live in central VA, USA and when it eventually is available here the dealers will make it as unpleasant an experience to buy as possible. All three dealers within an hour have lots full of cars and won't budge on pricing, EV or ICE. The last time I went to one they had a Type N for nearly $80k which is bonkers. None of their EVs was under $50k USD, even the ugly Ioniq 6, which they had over a half dozen collecting dust.
I can't decide whether the Hyundai or the Kia ev6. I'm really disappointed with the stereo in the Hyundai. Even the upgraded stereo option only has 7 speakers, and they are absolute garbage. The Kia has 14 speakers, and it's a premium company that do the integration. My only issue with the Kia is how dark it is inside and the sharply raked boot, which sucks.
At the start: The car is not 1m8 width, it is 1m89 (nearly 1m9 width) Those 9 cm can make a big difference in your garagebox. 3:20 It is usefull that you can change the position for the middle armrest. My wife is much shortyer than I am, so she has a chair position much more to the front (pedals). She can put that armrest in her perfect position when driving. And I can put it in the for me most comfortable position. And it helps, pulling it backwards) if you cannot leave the car at one side due to a wall /gate or other car close bye...easier to switch inside to the other side of the car. Very nice to have this bigger battery. But iI'll not replace my project 45 for a new one soon. After 80000 km it still driver perfectly well. Why should you drive this car ever in sportsmode? It is more a travel car for longer distances...smotth and confortable drive. And a warning for this fast recharging. Read carefully how to preheat the battery , especially in winter. Without that it won't charge that fast. (My project45 needs to know which charger I'll go to by the navigation. Enter youre target and than add the wanted charger from the list of chargers along the route. There is not something as a "preheat button")
I'm going to wait for the January 2025 Tesla Model Y refresh, so I can compare the two. If the Model Y refresh is as phenomenal as the Model 3 refresh, I'll go for the Model Y - hard to beat.
Its a good car no doubt but mine was stolen by someone with the keys nowhere near the car - googe 'gameboy car key emulator'. It's happening a lot and Hyundai don't want to know - so unless they've fixed the security (like adding pin code to start) I wouldn't risk buying one again as they can be stolen in seconds.

I've got the last version and the rear wiper is a big deal to me.. I will never ever get another car with no rear wiper..
@@thedreamfactory6964 Oh, you're so right! I think next year's models will have no rear window, they're so superfluous. Dream on.
honestly same, i drive skoda fabia 2006, it has rear wiper, but im rarely use rear window. And for parking side mirrors are more than enough.
3:31 ive never understood if LEDs can change color, why not give like 10 quick presets and advanced option with full rgb pallet ...
Thoroughly enjoyed my 2-year lease with Ioniq 5 - my only major complaint was with the software - did they improve that? Looks like they changed the trim on the sides and rear with matt black plastic - should be less prone to scratches than the silver trim.
When you have the regen on how does the vehicle behind know you are braking ??
Because the brake lights come on with regen.
@AlanTov thanks I was hoping they would buy now I have to take it off mine as it will look like I'm a nervous driver braking every second
Never been a fan of the IONIQ 5's exterior, but its interior is very nice and that's what I be looking at most of the time anyways, plus all the utility it has.
Do the tail lights come on when you lift your foot off the accelerator pedal with full one pedal driving engaged?
Yes. Obviously any braking effect puts the brake lights on.
Had my Ioniq 5 for 2 years. Fantastic car. 3 annoying issues I've found though 1. rear wiper...fixed!2. Squeaking rear tailgate... fixed? Windows dont clear the water / frost when you put them down????
No doubt : the ioniq 5 ! 3 years ago, I could choose between model Y and Ioniq5, and I drove them both. My verdict is without hesitation after 3 years. On Ioniq 5 side, the best of breed aspects are : charging, design, and OUSTANDING build quality to which the Model Y is incapable to compete. On Model Y side : the best electric efficiency on the planet, full self driving and outstanding software. But personaly, I am completely allergic to its design, only the model S is elegant. And model 3 just "OK"
Tesla is not top,of the efficiency game anymore.
@@cypvh74and who is it ? BYD ? Not at all.. Tesla is the only carmaker capable to achieve 16.5 kWh for 100km, = 265 Wh per mile. NOBODY is at this level. That's a fact.
@ only in their fever dream lies. My model 3 has never come anywhere close to getting its rated efficiency.
Finally you guys reviewed it.
Gorgeous. Also the car. 😊
Which one would you pick, Ioniq 5 or EV3?
Can you turn the speed limit beeping off with one or two button presses?
Yes. Long press the volume button on the steering wheel. Do the same with the steering wheel button to turn off the lane keep assist.
Thanks
My Bluelink doesn’t work on my car and the dealer / Bluelink are not sure how to fix it. My company said we will send it back but I didn’t want to wait for another car. They said they have Tesla Model Y’s available if I would prefer that. I used to have a Model 3 and I’ve told my work I would rather stick with the Ioniq without Bluelink.
What’s going on with the audio?
I test drove an IONIQ 5 and it's a lovely car, glad to see it's even better with this version. Too big (and too pricey) for me, but maybe that'll change by the time I buy my next car.
I love it. If it wasn't for the fact I already have a Kia EV6 and I'm planning to downsize when I get my next car (Kia EV3 or Skoda Elroq are on my shortlist so far), I would have considered it.
Wouldn't rule out the Kona which since 2024 version is larger and competes with the cars you mentioned
Why does much of the video look like it's in ungraded Log colour profile?
They’ve forgotten to colour grade it. No one has checked it. The sound is awful too.
@@JuicyJohnEV The editors have checked out for the Christmas holidays early! 😄
I wonder if we could encourage the UK gov, to have a Hyundai ethos?
I think the reveal at the start should have been the rearr, zooming in on the rear wiper which makes the car usable now.
I know this is supposed to look radical and modern, but it still reminds me of the Austin Allegro.
The MY 2025 does have the rear wiper. Rewatch the early part of the video. The 2024 does not have it.
Tesla Y might have some advantages, but none of them pay out for the bad drivers ergonomics.
2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 PE.😍
💪🏼😎Wow!.👍🏻👌🏼
vehicle to home?
A rear wiper! Can I have one for my BMW i4 please.
This is £39,900. Also where would you ever find a 260kw charger? At best most are 100kw with some at 150kw
Depends where you are. There are very many 350kW units in UK now, eg Ionity
@ fingers crossed there will be more of these rolled out as we only have a handful of those near us
Nice to see the buttons.
I can't see why you'd choose a KIA EV3 over the Ioniq 5 on a lease deal, when currently the 5 is coming out £100 a month cheaper.
Beautiful
Tesla owners: We want physical buttons…and a blinker stalk.
Hyundai: How about ALL THE BUTTONS!! AND THREE STALKS!!
아이오닉5N, 정말 최고의 EV입니다.
Not for me.
Based on the look and only the Korean VW golf this is,you can't go wrong recognising it
Have they fixed the 12v battery problem?
No, they added a rear wiper so you have a clear view on the problem 😁
Yes. Our 24MY has had the fix carried out.
Seems like sour grapes , the MY25 is a massive improvement in ever way over the old one
@@thomasneely2700 "Sour grapes"…? Not at all. I must've missed how the 2025 model is a "massive" improvement. I have NO "buyer's remorse" with my 2024, but go ahead and snark at me all you want.
@ I don’t need to it’s here for all to see
Bye bye lovely. 🥰
@@thomasneely2700 👈 Troll.
1:27 you have forgotten to colour grade your video
It is looking like every other SUV now. It has lost some of the futuristic angular bodywork design which was its USP. Or am I mistaken?
09:33 what the hell is this sun doing in the UK ?
Anyone else notice how the driver side doesn’t have a grab handle above the window 🤔
Never installed in EU models - only US ,,,,all versions !
You're supposed to be holding the steering wheel
Love it
Yeah - not buying a Tesla!
Better then before have rear wiper 🎉
"bar of soap" I can deal with. Elmo, no. Hidden safety record, no. Elmo, no. Hidden escape levers, no. Elmo, no. Indicators on buttons, no. O yeah - Elmo, no.
Jason totally lost me with "ELMO" can you explain what it means?
@@briankavanagh7191Elon's quasi fascist twin.
Far too big for my needs which also can't help efficiency.
But I'd agree Hyundai, Kia are leading the EV pack at the moment.
Iv Just Ordered a new IONIQ 5 Long Range model on MOBILITY
Sadly, I don't think prices start at £33,900 pounds. Now THAT would be a great buy 😉
Getting Matt Watson Vibes
Teslas are ugly and the insurance premiums are insane so it's the Hyundai for me
i like it i wish i had the money to buy it
Re the digital camera mirrors.
Time Stamps is a real thing. You know?
Ev3 👍
I can't decide whether the Hyundai or the Kia ev6. I'm really disappointed with the stereo in the Hyundai. Even the upgraded stereo option only has 7 speakers, and they are absolute garbage.
The Kia has 14 speakers, and it's a premium company that do the integration. My only issue with the Kia is how dark it is inside and the sharply raked boot, which sucks.
wait what!? tesla model y has a 7 seater now!? in UK!? booking right now!
Way to go! Stunning car...
At the start:
The car is not 1m8 width, it is 1m89 (nearly 1m9 width) Those 9 cm can make a big difference in your garagebox.
The refresh is minor and didn’t really do much except remove driver’s stalks.
@@cypvh74he he, no it’s a remarkable refresh. Quiet. Fast. Smooth. World’s best EV, and it’s not close. Enjoy!
30 seconds in, had to stop, why is the sound quality so bad on your videos? Spoiling the channel 😢
It still reminds me of an Austin Princess. Which given the company history is almost appropriate.
Hyundai Pony is what the designers were trying to echo
Its a good car no doubt but mine was stolen by someone with the keys nowhere near the car - googe 'gameboy car key emulator'. It's happening a lot and Hyundai don't want to know - so unless they've fixed the security (like adding pin code to start) I wouldn't risk buying one again as they can be stolen in seconds.
My god sort your sound levels please.....about 20% too low and the ads Blast out. Minor winge I know but bloody annoying 😂
