She had such a gentleness to her that I don't think we talk about enough.
That's the problem with this world over the last couple of decades. There is such strength in abusing the weakness of a person, or their eccentricities. The web has made it impossible for these generations to even want to understand her. It made her last decades miserable in a way. She is an icon to so many. If you don't understand you need to study her time in cinema and watch her catalog. The only way you will know or understand. You will never be able to read the titles, watch the videos, read the comments. We got to watch her without all of that and I'm telling you. It was special.
She was somewhere between Mr. Rogers and Dolly Parton, just an all-around wonderful person
@@JustBenThatsIt Exactly 💯
Very right. ❤
Shelley Duvall worked on multiple videogames about her dog in the early 90s and I just don't think we appreciate her whimsy and creativity enough
She aged beautifully. It's really refreshing to see an old actress who didn't turn herself into a plastic surgery nightmare. Just got old and looked like a normal ass old woman.
This is my favorite thing about Shelley, that she let herself age gracefully. She was so beautiful
Right? I love her for that
Agreed.
@@NummyMuffin333 Barbie moment
NO she did NOT , do not be a jackass like all the rest and say , she was a great exercise ( she was NOT ) and beautifull she was neither 🤮🤮👎👎
I came to know and respect Shelley the last few years in Blanco. She was a true friend and a very giving person. I will miss our visits and conversations. ❤
I'm so sorry for your loss. You & her family have my condolences. 🙏🏾🕊
I didn't even know she lived in Blanco. I'm just down the road, lovely place.
So glad she had you as a friend. She was loved by so many!
@vickigossard 🙏 Dear Vicki,
You've certainly realised well before now that Miss Shelley was a blessing to you, to your community and to the world not just for her body of work that will survive us all but for her magnificent heart that went beyond the words, the set, the director, the scene, the actor and the play.
I'm convinced, as a former professional actor and stuntman, that Miss Shelley was not acting. She was being. What ever role she played, "her Beingness" was ever-present. THAT BEINGNESS never changed even though there were different characters, different costumes, different stories, different times.
The Shakespeare line, "to be or not to be..."? In Miss Shelley's life, on or off screen, she was always herSELF. That Self IS Being and it manifests through rare souls as aware, vulnerable, empathetic, conscious, sweet, warm, beautiful, sensitive and pure. In other words Love in human form. The Greek word is agape, Indians would say Prema or Ananda.
You had many encounters with Miss Shelley and you can attest to this. Her great love of animals, for example. You witnessed her loving, caring heart everytime you were with her.
I, myself, never met her while in the profession but, somehow, I know her and I can say without shame that I love her. That love is beginningless...and endless. That love is not sensual, it's without desire and it doesn't want anything in return.
That love, simply, Is. And it's timeless.
It's my understanding that we are all one as this "Beingness" but it's rare to see. In India and other places one would call these brings Saints.
These saints come in many forms and different genders at different times for different reasons and their behaviour can be odd and many are called mad. Sri Ramakrishna and my Father, the Beggar Saint Bhagwan Sri Yogi Ramsuratkumar, are two such beings.
And it's my belief that Miss Shelley is an American Saint. To "know thyself" is the most important thing in a human life. Those who know, usually, keep quiet.
Miss Shelley quietly and without fanfare always knew who she was. And it is THAT which is present whether in front of a camera in Hollywood or in her backyard in Texas.
And lastly, may I say for the record that the presence of Shelley Duvall on this planet has made this world a better place. And i, for one...will never, ever forget Her. Thank You, Miss Shelley.
Love,
Swami Markandeya ♥️🙏🌈
I really appreciate this the last thing I remember was that horrible interview . It’s really nice to see this is years after that , and being sincere it’s sad the way they talked about her being unwell as if anyone has control of that , I want to see more of her work
This world truly didn’t deserve Shelley nor Robin either. Two amazing human beings together again
❤ well said
She gave so much to so many, and I fear she did not get as much back as she deserved.
I feel like this always happens to the kindest of souls, unfortunately
Ms. Duvall came to my University years ago and gave a lecture on her fairytale series. I wasn't going to attend, but went with a friend and enjoyed it immensely. She was quiet and introverted, but answered each and every question from students - she was amazingly quirky and sort of shy. But there was this aura emanating from her - you could just tell she had seen and done things that most actors will never achieve. RIP Ms. Duvall - you left a lasting impression on my young artist brain and I thank you for it.
Sweet lady.
People tend to say she lived some sort of tragic life, but she lived a great life.
The thing I'm noticing about Shelly Duvall's passing is how much dialogue it seems to be inspiring. Maybe it's not any more than would crop up over the passing of other famous actors/actress, but it's more the depth... The profundity of pensive thought that seems to be cropping up; that this gentle, unprepossessing lady who has lately been out of the limelight save an extremely unfortunate and horribly unflattering interview with a hack whose name is unworthy to appear here - there seems to be a heartening redemption of her and how many positive experiences everyone has to share. She would undoubtedly be touched by this collective positive remembrance of her work, her presence, and her as a person.
Thank you, everyone, who has come out to remember Shelly in such a kind and honorable way. And thank you, Shelly, for your body of work, for the indelible memories of your gripping performances and screen presence.
Rest in Peace, and goodbye, Shelly Duvall.
@dingno, really beautifully written. Say's it all. Thank you.
The Grimm Life Collective did an interview you might want to see. It came out at the start of last year and garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
She did redeem herself well enough to have even made one last film in the way she always liked: full of imagination and not stressful, egocentric perfectionism.
Shelley, you emitted a beautiful ray of light to this life.
This clears up what I thought was a worrying fallout between her and Stanley Kubrick. I'm glad in the end it wasn't what the internet thought about the two. She was a fantastic actress and lovely person it seems. I admire her lullaby album, as well. May she rest in peace 🤍
exactly!
Yeah it's so sweet to hear how there was mutual respect. What a wonderful woman she was.
Just crushing. Since her passing, I've been watching all these old clips of Shelley Duvall. She was young, beautiful, extremely articulate and smart, quirky. She had such an uncanny presence in films. Seeing her in her last days is very hard. She's still quite smart and together here. But thank you for sharing this.
Yeah, it's hard how we can't control our lives, in the end
When she started to cry I just wanted to give her a big hug! She had such a warm smile and presence that made you want to protect and love her. Can’t believe she’s gone. Rip Shelley, thanks for the beautiful memories ❤
Her eyes
went lighter as she got older
My dad's eyes did the same thing. It's an odd thing.
It happens sometimes as we age... our hair loses pigment, too, and turns gray.
@@LittleBlueOwl318hilarious 🤣🤣
That often happens as we age
Cried watching this...intelligent and warm and wonderful..Thankfully some smart people interviewed her recently...She was one of the special ones Hollywood just kinda moved on from. A legend.
Her beauty is immortal.
Truly. Just glowing eternally
Beautiful Comment❤
the fact that the memory at 2:45 still made her so emotional is just beautiful. we don't often think about the way one sentence can change someone forever.
I really miss her, her passing hit me really hard. She was such a wonderful actress and human being. I didn't appreciate her art enough while she was alive.
I’m SOOOO HAPPY that you got to speak to her and also got her own words on her relationship with Kubrick. So much around them has been glorified for clicks and sensationalist bs. Happy she was able to speak to it herself.
This lady seems more genuine than most people walking around! RIP
Now she’s free. May you rest in peace, Shelley.
I'm so glad this interview exists.
Shelley holds a special place in my heart. I find solace in watching "3 Women" during tough times. Seeing the younger generations embrace her work and express their admiration warms my heart. Rest in peace, sweetie.
That's my favorite film. 3 Women is unique and dreamy. Is it a dream , is it reality? Just so fascinating piece of cinema
Shelley had a pure heart till the very end. She changed physically but she was still beautiful, as she was beaming with light from her heart. 😢❤️❤️❤️
So true! Well said
God she was so beautiful. Her entire life she was so beautiful inside and out and I never even met her but I miss her.
It's so great to see her mind was clear and sharp again in her last 2 years.
This makes me really sad for some odd reason, The music choice. seeing her Young and old face. seeing her movies. Such a gorgeous tormented soul, R.I.P
R.I.P To A Beautiful Gorgeous Woman ❤❤❤❤❤ Shelley Duvall You Will Be Missed 😢😢😢😢
The world really failed her. She deserved so much better. RIP
How did the world fail her?
@@Anthony-hu3rjthe abuse she suffered when she was in Hollywood.
I'm very puzzled, though. All this time I thought that the crux of her mistreatment in Hollywood was the supposed violence she suffered from Stanley Kubrick. But now I just find that they were on good terms after all. Yes, she deserved more recognition but I feel like I'm missing something.
@@kouseiarima7982it’s honestly not that surprising. People today seem to take a thread and run with it and spin their own narrative.
‘Dr’ Phil.
She she says that there are people in this world that are special...she definitely was one of them.
Wish i could have got to meet her, a true fantastic person
Rip Shelley you are such a legend in film and an icon most importantly a very kind, sweet, and gentle soul
I'm crying because it's sad to lose someone famous or not. She made a huge contribution to the arts and more than she realized. I hope she is remembered and celebrated for her work. She deserves to be remembered for years to come. Her style her fashion and her wonderful personality. Thank you Shelly for being yourself even when the world pushed you down. Don't ever let someone crush your dreams. Sleep well ❤️🩹
Thank you as well for sharing, Shelley was just a sweet, kind lady. May she rest in peace and fly high with the Angels ❤❤🕊🕊💜💜
Thanks for this! Very significant interview. It shows Shelley could still be quite mentally fit in her later years. And it shows that she had a good relationship with Kubrick and enjoyed working with him.
Rest in peace angel
I'll always remember her as rapanzel from the faire tale series, God bless you Shelly now forever young and beautiful in God's garden.❤💗💕🤎💜💙💛💝💖🤍🖤🧡💚💓💋
God bless you, Shelley Duvall.
She was a genuinely sweet, gentle soul. A great actress, who deserved every bit of success she got.
My only wish is that life had treated her better in the end.
Already miss her. She was a sweet heart. Such an interesting lady.
3:04
I get teary-eyed when she breaks down like that. R.I.P. 💔
The way she speaks so kindly about Robert Altman, it legit choke me up.
She was such a sweet, light person up until the end. I’m so sad over her passing
She was so very very special, and this life truly did let her down. All the fame in the world couldn’t give her what she needed…love.
Such a beautiful soul.. we will never forget your gorgeous smile Shelley
A lovely lady 'til the end. We're all poorer for her absence.
She was a magical wonderful person. I was so frustrated at how people gaslit her and pigeonholed her into a "mental illness" label. She wasn't mentally ill. She said whimsical things. Beautiful lovely poetic things. Like a modern day Shakespeare or Brother's Grimm. She starred in Mother Goose's Rock'n'rhyme and she WAS Mother Goose. When someone in an interview told her Robin Williams had died, she said "He's not dead." And people called that a paranoid delusion. I call it beautiful. I call it love. She clearly meant he was alive in her heart, in her memory, in all our hearts, the lives he touched. She didn't dwell in sadness, even if she was okay with being sad sometimes. She was always finding the light side of everything. The sweetest parts of life. She showed those to people. She shared. She educated. She was brilliant. She was just a giving gentle being and I loved her so much. I met her very briefly when we were working on the same television network on two different shows. She was just instantly nice to everyone. She had the neatest outfits and hair styles. She heavily influenced my own personal style for the rest of my life. I'm grateful to her for sharing wonderful stories. She made my childhood happier. I wish she had been more appreciated, but I'm so glad she had so much love in her life because she deserved every bit of it! ❤
Your comment needs a few thousand more thumbs up!
@@TruthSurge Thank you. 🙏❤️
Her shizoaffective disorder was something she's dealt with for most of her career. The way she was treated after that one interview was horrible and it's entirely possible she did actually mean this when she talked about Robin Williams, but you don't have to erase her mental illness to make that point. The fact that she was able to achieve so much despite it makes her even more of an inspiration in my book.
@@QWERTYCommander I haven't erased any mental disorder.
Shelley Duvall has not publicly disclosed a specific diagnosis for any mental disorder. In November 2016, when she appeared on "Dr. Phil" and discussed her depression and struggles to get organized after her house burned down, Dr Phil labeled her as that, gaslit her, and tried to coerce her for years to subject herself to his exploitative "in patient psychiatry." This appearance brought significant attention to her condition and sparked concern and controversy regarding the ethics of the interview and her well-being.
Her longtime boyfriend/partner Dan Gilroy expressed strong disapproval of Shelley Duvall's appearance on "Dr. Phil" in 2016. He criticized the show and its host, Dr. Phil McGraw, for exploiting Duvall's struggles with depression over her brother getting cancer and her house burning down for entertainment purposes. Gilroy and others close to Duvall felt that the episode was unethical and manipulative, highlighting her for being in a vulnerable position (due to grief) rather than offering genuine help. He, along with many fans and mental health advocates, argued that the show should have spoken to her with more sensitivity and compassion without rushing to judge her.
This was so special 🥹 had me tearing up.
Thanks for posting! Sincere condolences to her family and friends. Lovely interview of an underappreciated actor. I don't think she ever got enough credit for being the creator and executive producer of Faerie Tale Theater, Tall Tales & Legends, and Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories (and whatever else she produced). Her waif-like appearance (I always thought she was a babe) belied what a smart cookie she was to anyone who didn't know her. Glad we have the body of work she did to watch her at work (I know I haven't seen everything she's done). Gone too soon! ❤☮🌎
she is probably one of the purest hearted people I've come across in life, and that's why so many people love her so much. 🥰
Ugh. I’m so grateful to have found this woman and her movies. ❤ Thank you Shelley, for all you’ve done for the world..
One of my favorite movies is 3 Women. She was wonderful in that film.
that movie's been on my "to watch" for some time. I really need to get at it!
What a gem
She was majestic and beautiful 🧡🧡
This is so special. Thank you for sharing ❤
A fantastic actress & a beautiful soul. Thanks for the memories Shelley; You really were "great".♥
I really wish I could have met this darling lady! What a treasure to the world and such a complex person! Hope she was happy.
I cried watching this. Her gentleness, compassion & amazing intelligence permeated every frame. I'm sure she touched everyone she ever met in some way. A brilliant actress & an absolute gem of a human being. ❤️ ❤❤
She was one of a kind. There will never be another. She didn't have a mental illness. The world does. Thanks for the weird and the wonderful. RIP
Shelley was a gift. My siblings and I grew up watching every Faerie Tale Theatre/Tall Tales and Legends.
Balling 😭 Love & Miss U Shelly ♥️🕊🕊♥️♥️
She always radiated such warmth, humility and kindness. You can tell she genuinely loved art and being involved in creating things. RIP ❤️
:( shelley will be greatly missed although her spirit lives on forever 🤍 such a precious and endearing force of a lady
Wonderful!
shelly was so beautiful, her eyes literally are so pretty
Oh my god, this is awesome!!! Thank you for sharing! I hope this absolute angel is resting in eternal peace. She deserves it after everything she went through.
RIP Shelley Duvall ❤🌹
With all the celebrity deaths recently, it's almost numbing how many people from when we were growing up are passing away. Shelly's death hit me unexpectedly hard -- she always seemed like such a genuinely gentle and kind soul with immense talent. She was a gifted actress with this alluring way about her that lit up a screen. She'll be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by this young writer.
RIP Shelley. I thoroughly enjoyed this short window, thank you for kindly sharing ❤
This is great. Other YT coverage is very unflattering. So thanks for this. Shelly was a real person.
Absolute best interview I've seen on Shelley Duvall. Just letting her speak. About the stuff we want to know about. Well done !
Shelley’s fairytale theater was such a fun part of my childhood thanks to my family. Loved her in The Shining and Popeye as well! It’s been great seeing her resurface these past few years and her clear influence on actors like Mia Goth, Tilda Swinton, Andrea Riseborough and many more. She ran so they could walk! Thank you for uploading this! Shelley was amazing and one of a kind! ❤
What a delightful, charming lady. Man, we lost three celebrities a few weeks ago. Shannen Doherty, Shelley Duvall and Richard Simmons. Rest easy sweet souls.
My siblings and I had the vhs recordings of her bedtime story show. I’m the youngest and I just turned 20 but to this day we quote parts from those vhs’ that we laughed at when we were kids. She has such a truly magical spirit that will forever live on RIP Shelley one of the world’s best story tellers.
I had such a crush on her when I was younger.
.
I grew up on her Fairy Tale Theatre movies. Mom owns the entire VHS set still that we watched as kids. Shelley is also my siblings fave actress from the movies The Shining, of course, and Popeye. She was such a beautiful human Hollywood didnt treat right. Thank you for this beauty tribute to someone who is so special to our family ❤.
one of a kind human being. kind eyes. Rest in beauty Miss Duvall
God Bless you Shelly Duvall. Wish I could of
Met you.❤🕊️🙏🌎👼
Fantastic interview, I really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.
Such a good soul💗
Thank you for this. I hope one day you can finish this project because her story definitely deserves its own documentary feature.... She remains such an icon in American film to this day!
so very sweet. Thank you!💜
Shelley was a pure hearted woman, whenever she introduced herself. She did it with a smile, I wish I had the chance to meet her in person. Rest in Peace Shelley you're shining down on us from heaven now🕊😔🙏
this was so sweet and well made. Thank you for the upload, it kinda helps give some closure. Shelley seemed really humbled and proud of her career and life. Joy!
Thank you for putting together this tribute. I think you captured her essence very well. This is why her fan base will always love her work and her as a person.
You get the feeling that she was the sweetest, vulnerable person. I always loved her work and was saddened to read of her troubles of her latter years.
Such A Pure and Genuine Person with a Heart of Gold. I Cried as I watched this. Rest Easy Beautiful Shelley.
She was so beautiful. Even towards the end. I don't know much about her, but I love her. I hope her transition is full of peace. ❤🕯
She had the most amazing look! RIP Shelley
Very good interview and also very good documented.
So good to share and so fascinating.
"He needs me". By Shelly Duval was sampled by two of my favorite producers. El-P and Exile. A multi talented seemingly kind hearted person. Rest well Misses Duval.
Shelley, you always were a beautiful, gentle soul. It just radiated through her. RIP sweet lady.
Finally we properly hear from Shelley!!!
Zach, Thanks for sharing this intimate recollection. Shame that you couldn't create a larger documentary. 🎬
RIP Shelley. Your performances live on….a beautiful soul and talented actress….this interview shows us how humble and warmth giving in her answers that Shelley is truly not touched by her fame. No big ego….just a heart felt soul happy to answer and explain her life working in the movie industry. ❤🙏Many thanks!!😘
miss her :,) such a beautiful soul, she shines!!!
What an amazing human being. Having been born in 1973, she entertained me a great deal during my life. What a loving and gentle soul. Godspeed, Shelley Duvall.
I haven't seen a huge amount of Shelley's work, but she always interested me. Someone quite quirky, a little shy, but kind hearted and very intelligent. Its sad she's gone and perhaps life in the last couple of decades wasn't as kind to her as it could have been, but looking at the interviews done in more recent years her star shone brightly until the end.
What a beautiful interview. Thank you for sharing this piece of her.
I always thought she was so beautiful and still do.she helped a lot with me coping with real life.shelly really loved acting.
Shelley was beautiful her whole life, inside and out. She deserved so much better from the world.
Such a gorgeous woman with such a gentle smile. I really enjoy her films and she seems like such a genuine person
One of the greats! We will miss you, Shelley.💖💖💖💖💖
