Don't forget his superb performances in 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? and also the tv series in the 80s, Love Sidney.

I know this movie...I grew up in the 70's...in those pre-cable days, local UHF stations were always showing old movies...nowadays,you can't even find this on TCM.

It would make a good double feature with another Tony Randall favorite from 1965, "Fluffy." In that one they replace the genie with a lion, and Barbara Eden with Shirley Jones.

And like those Rock Hudson-Doris Day movies, this one includes Edward Andrews and his horn-rimmed glasses. All that's missing is John McGiver.

I wouldn't say Sidney Sheldon "ripped off" this movie with I Dream of Jeannie any more than this movie "ripped off" Aladdin or any other story about another genie. Sheldon said that this movie inspired him to come up with the show (before seeing it, he had an idea for a show about a spirit). He also commented that there had been stories about genies done, but they were always large, burly men. His idea was to feature a beautiful, female genie. Also, other than the parallel of a genie and a master, this is nothing like I Dream of Jeannie, in which an astronaut finds a genie in a bottle on a desert island after crash landing on an aborted space mission. This also isn't the first time a television show was inspired by a film. Bewitched is another example, as it was preceeded by I Married A Witch and Bell, Book, and Candle. This is a cute movie, but I disagree with Karaszweski's assessment that this is better or more fun than the TV series. I Dream of Jeannie has never been off the air since it left primetime in 1970 and went into syndication in 1971 and it is shown all over the world! Like I Love Lucy, it is one of the rare "evergreen" series that keeps going for new generations to enjoy. While I like The Brass Bottle, it was a cute, but mostly forgettable movie, except for the connections it has with the iconic TV series I Dream of Jeannie.

This is a remake of a 1922 silent.
