My absolute favorite Don Knotts movie was The Private Eyes. Rarely see it on the television schedule but he and co-stars had me rolling on the floor every time! He was an absolute joy!
Griffiths willingness to take a back role on his own show I believe was something Ron Howard (Opie) learned. Years later on Happy Days, Howard willingly took a back role where he was suppose to be the main character and allowed Henry Winkler (Fonzie) to take a lead role. As with Andy Griffith, Howard put aside any jealousy other actors may have had and made Happy Days a long running success. The same can be said for Jerry Seinfeld who let his cast also shine, especially the role of Kramer and made Seinfeld a huge successful sitcom.
Years after Seinfeld had been off the air, he was approached with an idea to reboot it and he simply said no, because he didn't think the cast could be matched again.
I'm happy to have found this video. Barney is one of my favorite actors ever. I spent my teen years (my first years in this country) watching Andy and Barney and that lovely small town, which was such a symbol of American life to me. I wanted to live in a place like that. My town wasn't much different. I spent those first 6 years in Key West, Florida, a little town on an island 2x4 miles in size. At 10 pm it was so quiet, everybody going to bed after the news on TV. Now it;s completely changed and that atmosphere of what I call "Small Town America" is over. Now it's a tourist trap like Disney World ! But I will always be from a small town and keep Barney and Mayberry in my heart. I saw him in an interview once and he said he'd never gotten married He really kept his life private ! Thanks for all the good times, Mr.Knotts .
I grew up every day watching Don Knotts and Ron Howard. I don't care what his lifestyle was. That show rescued me every day from a dysfunctional life at home. I loved all the characters.
I so loved the Andy Griffith show, and all the actors. Barney Fife was a character you couldn't help but love. I remember the tough guy role, and he only had one bullet in his gun at any time. I laughed so much the years he was on the show. Andy was the serious guy,but barney brought that needed laughter to take your mind off life's challenges. Later I saw him making role appearances on Matlock, and that truly showed me how much they were friends and that just touched my heart. I still watch the re-runs of Matlock, Andy would have made a great attorney just like Perry mason,I loved them both deeply. Those were some excellent time watching those memorable shows. My deepest sympathy to Mr. Don Knott's family...he will forever be remembered.. Gone but never forgotten. :(
When I was a kid in the mid and late 70's, The Apple Dumpling Gang came out and I remember getting to go and see it. For us kids back then that were the age this movie was meant to target, you just wanted and had to see it. I also loved in The Incredible Mr. Limpet. There are moments in the movie where he seems sad and alone and when I was a younger person, I remember picking up on that emotion and being both happy and sad for him. Sounds like he had a great life and was well loved. He made a lot of people laugh and smile and the universe will find a way to reward him for all the happiness he brought to people all over the world.
The Incredible Mr. Limpet. When I was a kid we watched this on the TV! I was a big Barney Fife fan and well I could not get enough. Years later when we got our first VHS this was the first tape I insisted my parents buy and played it till the tape broke. Thank you Don Knotts.
The Andy Griffith show is still genius to this day , , , I wish every parent would make their 9-year olds watch this very family strong TV Series , , , I'm talking all the episodes , , , many ways it's patriotic and strengthens sense of community 👍👍👽
I've always felt that Jon Cryer of "Two and a Half Men" fame was heavily influenced by Don Knotts. Facile expressions, mannerisms and even some resemblance in looks. I don't know if that's so, but both of them are hilarious!
I totally see it, now that you mention it. I subconciously knew I had seen Jon's type of humor before, couldn't place it. That is absolutely it. Thanks!!
Two of my favorite movies are The incredible Mr. LIMPET and The Ghost and Mr Chicken. I watch them every time they come on TV. He was an outstanding actor and comedian.
Another guy who was a drill Sergeant was Whatshisname Ross, the landscape painter who had the instructional TV program where he'd create an entire painting in the course of each show.
@@TheRealDrJoey Bob Ross but that was a little different, he was a TI which is the Air Force version of a drill Sergeant. This was not a complete post. I have seen all of Don movies and TV shows and I don't think there is any rumors about him. He was also Andy's neighbor in the Matlock lawyer show. RIP Don 🕊️❤️🕊️ Missing ya!!
I'm old enough to remember him as the "nervous" man in the street on the Steve Allen show that pre-dated the Tonight Show. Of course, he was very funny.
I doubt if the person who wrote the title had watched the video. It's often the way in these sweatshop videos: titler, script writer, reader, all different.
The video ended awkwardly. What did his family confirm? That he was a ladies man? Anyway........."The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" was a very good movie. Truly scary at some points. When he sees the organ playing by itself.....and then later when there is someone truly playing it, are great moments!
Enough. Griffith and Knotts were in the movie No Time For Sargents where they had a scene together that was hilarious. I am not sure if they played these characters on Broadway. So, these two knew one another very well and were great friends before the Andy Griffith Show. This is so ridiculous.
TBK, Don left the show after season 5 because of something Andy said before the show began. I verbally agreed to do the show fir 5 years. It was thrn Don began his career in pictures. "The Apple Dumpling Gang" waa hilarious and he and Tim Conway made an hilarious team. Also, when he heard his good friend Andy was staring in his own shoe he called Andy and told him, "you'll need a deputy," and the rest, as they say is history!
Of course, The Andy Griffith Show was supposedly set in North Carolina, though filmed in California. Little known: The Mayberry Sheriff's Office displayed each current copy of the newsletter of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. And when Barney left the show, he "went" to Raleigh NC to be a detective, in the identification bureau of the NCSBI> (they didn't have detectives--they filed fingerprints.)
Don Knots was hilarious as Ralph Furley on Three's Company. I was hysterical when Mr. Furley did not realize that Jack Trpper and his twin brother Austin was Jack. Or when Jack and Janet made Mr, Furley believe he was too darn macho. I was equally hysterical when the Ann Wedgeworth Lana said to Mr. Furley"Who would want a worm like you?" Furley would smile and say "She loves me." without any clue that Lana wanted Jack. Or when Mr. Furley puckered his lips to show Jack how to get the women when it should have been the other way around. Or when Mr. Furley told the bank robber I cannot tell you the money is in my socks and then says "Oops" when he realized his terrible blunder sealing his lips. Don Knott's best role ever was playing that ridiculous goofball Mr. Ralph Furley on Three's Company. He really laughed at everyone to the bank.
Yes and he still kept his barney fife ways too. Who can't forget his nose sniffles as he trys not to pat himself on his back as he tells his life's achievements or boosts his ego about woman.
I just loved Don Knots as Ralph Furley on Three's Company far more than as Barney Fife on Andy Griffith. Ralph Furley is the reason he became so popular with me. I was hysterical when Mr.. Furley replied to Janet that he did not know women have urges as being intimacy lovers with men.. Just as Herman Munster was the reason Fred Gwynne was so popular with me as a gigantic 9 feet tall goofball with bolts in his neck playing hop scotch with children. Or when Grandpa told Lily that Herman practicing to be a child is like Bridget Bardeau practicing to be a girl.
In my opinion he elevated that show... The show... In my opinion was ok... When Don Knott's came along the was much better... They knew what they were doing when they got him.... Perfect choice...
I was a huge fan of Don Knotts from the beginning. Yes, I watched Andy because of Barney. Saw all his movies when they came out. Then in the mid '60s I was at Universal with my family. I was walking from the parking lot to a restaurant nearby. I looked up and just 50 feet away was Barney. I stopped and waved to him walking towards me and yelled out Hi! Mr. Knotts. Heck, I was 12 years old and seeing my first actor. His response wasn't what I expected. Never saw his movies or TV appearances again.
@@gardenmom6180 He yelled at me to "Get away from me Kid! Just get away!!! Voiced raised with a nasty mean face. I was probably a good 50 feet away from him then.
Great video about Don Knotts, only criticism is modern photos that had nothing to do with him and abrupt end to video. I remember watching Andy Griffith show and seeing Don's movies at theater as a kid. Ghost And Mr. Chicken is still on of my favorites.
The Ghost and Mr Chicken was my introduction to Don Knotts! Its a shame he is not so “popular” or “well known”, with my generation…as I was born in 1993 and am 30 years old. The Ghost and Mr Chicken was one of my favourite comedies growing up, I periodically watch it atill to this day! Don Knotts was incredibly funny. I’ve never heard any rumors about Don Knotts. Leave the man alone and let him rest in peace! Rumors… turn the other cheek, as the Lord told us to 🙏🏻
He is still the most beloved and entertaining guy!! We still love to watch him.
Thank you Mr. Knotts for the wonderful times you have given the world.
Same here! An hour of laughter is always better than what was going on at home.
He made the Andy Griffith show. I missed him when he left to do movies. I still watch the reruns today November 7, 2022. I am 68.
I thought he was the funniest comedian of all time ! He was my favorite comedian ! 🌟
When ever someone asks me "Who's your favorite actor of all?"
I always say Barney Fife.
I loved this man. He was so talented
RIP Barnie
Barney
Rip Mr. Ferley, lol Threes Company
When I was a kid, I loved Don Knotts on TV in all his roles and all his movies too. He was so funny and adorable.
The Incredible Mr. Limpet. When I was a kid we watched this on the TV! I was a big Barney Fife fan and well I could not get enough. Years later when we got our first VHS this was the first tape I insisted my parents buy and played it till the tape broke. Thank you Don Knotts.
The ghost and mr chicken and the incredible me limpet are awesome memories from my childhood and still make me smile 🥂
Same here Scott!!👍👏
The Andy Griffith show is still genius to this day , , , I wish every parent would make their 9-year olds watch this very family strong TV Series , , , I'm talking all the episodes , , , many ways it's patriotic and strengthens sense of community 👍👍👽
I've always felt that Jon Cryer of "Two and a Half Men" fame was heavily influenced by Don Knotts. Facile expressions, mannerisms and even some resemblance in looks. I don't know if that's so, but both of them are hilarious!
Agreed! Jon Cryer is the bastard child of Don Knotts and Gilda Radner
I was afraid they were going to say he was abusive. He was one of my favorites. So damn funny!
He was awesome you can't find a better role than Barney
He was a masterclass in acting
My rumor is that I believe he was a great guy, his acting and comedy is appreciated.
There was a man named "Don" that was a drill instructor in the Marine Corps in WW2 before becoming an actor. Don Adams, AKA Maxwell Smart.
Another guy who was a drill Sergeant was Whatshisname Ross, the landscape painter who had the instructional TV program where he'd create an entire painting in the course of each show.
True story?
@@TheLindadbYes!
@@TheRealDrJoey Bob Ross but that was a little different, he was a TI which is the Air Force version of a drill Sergeant. Usually, that is special duty and not a career position but I am not sure what else Ross was in his career. The story I heard was PBS wasn't looking for a new show but he made an appointment with one of the bosses and went in and pitched himself and poof, we all got happy little trees.
Don Knots life to me was: It’s a lot harder being the good man, than it is the bad man. And a whole lot more respected, and not much competition
Don Knotts died 15 years ago, and his family kept it a secret all this time. THAT'S AMAZING!
😆
i still waiting on what the secret was
@@mikemcwilliams7801 The "secret" was that Don Knotts had died, but everyone already knew this, it was all over the news.
Simply Amazing! LOL Adam 👍
@@mikemcwilliams7801 Me tooooooo Mike 😆
I just love him. He was one of the actor's that made me laugh!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣..... I love The Andy Griffith show!!!!! It is my favorite show to watch. I still watch it every day!!!! I even record it.... He was so funny on that show, it bring to you, great value's, honesty, and pure pleasure to watch!!!! You will never find another actor like him!!!! Every episode was brilliant!!!!! Thank You for bringing us laughter and all the fun you gave us.....❤️❤️❤️..🥀🥀🥀🥀......
I love when Jack blew his mind and his eyes pop out and he shakes his head, that was so funny to me.
I'm glad I read the comments, saved me from wasting time.ty
This was not a complete post. I have seen all of Don movies and TV shows and I don't think there is any rumors about him. He was also Andy's neighbor in the Matlock lawyer show. RIP Don 🕊️❤️🕊️ Missing ya!!
Very abrupt ending
@@1D4ever Yessss!! 1D4ever
I was thinking 🤔 the same thing
👍💯
The title is absolute clickbait but, at least the video was interesting.
I'm old enough to remember him as the "nervous" man in the street on the Steve Allen show that pre-dated the Tonight Show. Of course, he was very funny.
Damn you are old.
I doubt if the person who wrote the title had watched the video. It's often the way in these sweatshop videos: titler, script writer, reader, all different.
Remind me again what the rumors were.
AAAAAAIIIIIDDDDSSSS
WHAT??!
@@QueenBee-gx4rp I don't have a clue. I was just being Rich Evans
The APPLE DUMPLING GANG AND PRIVATE EYES are two of his favorite movies for me, he and Tim Conway were great.
That's right, karate. My whole body's a weapon. Damn I loved the Knott! Few comedians could deliver a line like he could
Love it 👍
Don Knotts made the Andy Griffith Show. What a legend and a fantastic tribute.
The video ended awkwardly. What did his family confirm? That he was a ladies man? Anyway........."The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" was a very good movie. Truly scary at some points. When he sees the organ playing by itself.....and then later when there is someone truly playing it, are great moments!
I would love to know what else is in this video. I can’t stand when they show a video and they cut it off before it ends! Grrr!
No one can Replace This man ! Man he was great funny ! And those facial expressions are priceless!! 🙏🙏🙏!
WTH happened to the rest of the video??
His daughter Karen puts on a live comedy show called Knotts. If you ever get a chance to see her perform you won't be disappointed.
The video seems like it ends in the middle of a sentence, quite abruptly.
turn off the damn music, words are more important.
Mr. Furley was a conneseur of 20 year old Scotch, as long as you mixed it with root beer.
@@martinreiss1426 Also loved the Munsters too, grandpa always trying to whip up something in the celler.
What was his response?
@@gardenmom6180 He yelled at me to "Get away from me Kid! Just get away!!! Voiced raised with a nasty mean face. I was probably a good 50 feet away from him then.
Great video about Don Knotts, only criticism is modern photos that had nothing to do with him and abrupt end to video. I remember watching Andy Griffith show and seeing Don's movies at theater as a kid. Ghost And Mr. Chicken is still on of my favorites.
What rumors?
The Ghost and Mr Chicken was absolutely brilliant.
Don was a Legend of comedic talent. RIP!
What exactly was the rumor his family finally confirmed???????????
That's why Barney only carried one bullet he was a damn sniper.
I loved Don on Three's Company. He was so funny.
The ghost and mr chicken is one of my all time favorite movies. Don Knotts was hysterical
He should've stayed with TAGS.
I loved Don as Barney & Mr. Furley. He was so diverse in his comedy.
You just dont seen Comedians funny im that sense or way anymore. From his body language and mannerisms, down to his facial expressions, and iconic voice!!! Truly a legend, Thank you Mr. Don Knotts for all of the laughs over the years!!!!
You should pronounce raleigh correctly
Don Knotts was a comedic genius.
I liked when Andy would leave Barney in charge of the jail. He was so funny with his one bullet in his shirt pocket... what happened to the rest of the story is there a part two? Also what was the rumor?😳😤🙄🐓
I sat thru the whole freaking video to find out what the "rumor" was. What a disappointment, the video just cut off, no rumor, wth?
My brother and I used to love watching Don Knotts movie, "The shakiest gun in the west" 😁
This man definitely understood comedy acting.
I know! That was a good one!! 😄
We all knew him and will remember him
One of my favorite episodes was the goat eating dynamite and the way Don delivered that line “Blooey”!
Last year I visited his home town of Morgantown, WV. I saw the statue of him on the street and saw his gravesite. I've always been his fan.
Isn’t he buried in Westwood village Hollywood?
A funny man. Good clean humor. Silly in a good way.
I enjoyed him on The Andy Griffith show. I used to watch that show as a child with my grandparents. I also liked him in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken".
It’s great to find out Don Knotts was not gay
Heard on rumors. Cluck Bait.
I had heard rumors that he was a convicted sex fiend who
used a different name. Thanks for revealing the dark truth!
I loved the Andy G Show. I still watch reruns on the Sundance Channel and cherish the memories they bring back. Don’s Character Barney was one of my favorite characters. Thanks for the memories.
I remember Don when he was on the Gary Moore show in the 1950s. He had a long and very successful career.
