"Rivals dismissed this as expensive and unreliable and it often was" - was that why Rolls Royce, Bentley and Mercedes bought rights to use it in some models back in those days (and some after)? In many places in Europe you see Citroens going around, some 3 or 4 decades old. If they are maintained properly they are as reliable as the most reliable cars, you just can't have any old grease monkey with a hammer going at it, you need someone that understands the system and knows how to repair them properly.

I can confirm. Citroen hydropneumatic suspension is actually pretty reliable, you just need experienced guy to work on the car. Your regular VW, BMW mechanic would do more harm than good...

yup, I have owned XM and own a C6 currently, 15 years old car and had no problems with the "unreliable" suspension

@@Matu007 Yeah the lazy journalism has to end- oleopneumatic suspension is generally reliable. Have owned 3 XMs and a Mercedes CL that also uses a similar system. No suspension issues. A shame the systems are no longer made.

I gotta give it to you guys, this is one of the best reviews and introductions of a car I have seen in a while. An absolutely great British car review.

Saw the first one of these only yesterday. Looks awesome on the road. I am currently in a Citroen DS5 Hybrid, which is the look I love but is too small. This car looks perfect and like my DS5 will be a rare site on the road. Great review, as always.

What isn’t taken into account with hybrid cars in the tax benefit system, is the pollution caused generating the electricity to charge the cars battery. In the U.K. this winter on cold windless days, renewables were only producing between 0.83Gw to 5 Gw. The rest of the demand in the country of 37Gw made up with gas, wood chips at DRAX, 5Gw of nuclear, 2Gw of coal plus Interconnector imports from France, Norway, and Belgium. Once the electric range runs out of the hybrid, the 1.6 petrol engine has to lug around the battery pack. So the hybrid is not much good on long distances.

What is the cost benefit to customers like me in terms of dollars for buying this car being manufactured in China only? I have heared from sales people, saying that "In order to keep the cost down ..., the vehicle, tyres, machinery, item of any category" this is made in South east asia or China. In this particular example, the C5X cost in Australia is similar to a vehicle that is made in France. Can't see a cost benefit transferred to customers.

Let’s set something straight here. Citroen has officially gone bankrupt, not once, but twice. So a new Citroen simply cannot be compared to the old historic Citroens. The new Citroen exists in Name only, and is basically nothing more than a concept and an idea somewhere in the heads of Stellantis. Basically, a car manufacturer in China wants to make a car for the European market, and Stellantis allows them to call it a Citroen.
I have a 2018 Citroen Grand C4, and after just 6 years and a total of 115000 miles on the clock, 3 years of which I owned it, and despite having spent £7000.00 in repairs in just the last 3 years, it’s going to the scrap heap. Gone, completely Knackered and beyond repair.
It was my first, my only, and my Last Citroen EVER. “Utterly frustrated and disappointed” doesn’t quite cover it for me, it’s beyond words.

NICE looking motor but why bother (new sharp estate hatch type DS 4 is here in uk for last 8 mths ) most people apart from a real sports car OR a fleet company car do like for last 10 yrs sitting higher up sales wise, and having good ground clearance ,just sayin
should have been 6-8 inches taller

Meh! Great if you want to live in it - as many of us will soon probably have to. Otherwise save a shedload of cash and just get an old C5, I still have a Mk1 estate and yes, it still goes. Mk1's and 2's available from around £999, most of it will probably still work.
