    What on earth is this? An old school, quirky, individualistic Citroen. But this time, not a car. Though the Citroen Ami has four wheels and a motor, a steering wheel, pedals and a couple of seats, it's actually classified as a quadricycle. Which basically is an urban mobility solution, small, light, low powered and characterised in the past by models like the Renault Twizy and the Reva G-Whizz.
    The Ami is tiny, trendy and even available in 'Cargo' form as a tiny van. And because it was never originally intended to be sold here, is only being offered in left hand drive, though because it's so small, that hardly matters. Don't think of it as an alternative to a city car. Instead, it's a better seen as a nicer option than public transport. Or walking. And on the Continent, it can cost less to lease one than your monthly mobile phone contract. Interested yet?

    I have an Ami - It does have regen braking - but you have to take some juice out of the battery first, to make some room for the regen to go. I've also made some fitted 3in thick seat pads and this has made all the difference to the ride comfort. The plastic doors are not flimsy- They have internal metal reinforcement. The Ami is quite well made- This information might be useful for people who might be interested in the Ami. I think it's a great little vehicle-but make sure it fits your need's. It ticks all my boxes.

      I have seen some suggestions, they top up their battery, to "override" the automatic Regen at max speed, to roll faster than design speed.

      It doesn't have regen braking, it regens down hills when restricting the speed to 28mph. Front disks and rear drums are not involved, and regen is not instigated by the brake pedal.
      There are no gears, so obviously no gear selector.

    The best Ami channel btw. is from a British couple living in the south of France @MeandMonAmi . They chose the Ami because none of them had a driver's license. They take the quadrocycle to the total limit and are just fun to follow.

  • @ziggarillo

    This is why everyone is confused about the Ami, the Twizy in the UK is a heavy quadricycle, type approved for up to 56mph, and the Ami is a light quadricycle, type approved as the equivalent to a moped up to 28mph. This kind of disinformation causes the ignorant to claim they are the same.and you could legally modify an Ami to go faster than 28mph, which of course is illegal.

    I'm sad to recently have learned that Citroën decided not to sell it for us in Norway. Presumably it's because they decided it's not suitable for our winters.

      I saw somebody using an alcohol heater but that consumes oxygen and it seems really not safe in general. Perhaps they have Scandinavian solutions for carrying along something hot that is preheated at home and can work for an hour in this small volume but the insulation is probably nihil too.

    • @thorbjrnhellehaven5766
      @thorbjrnhellehaven5766 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jean-pierredevent970 if they just have an alcohol burner, without letting exhaust outside, that can cause problems. The same applies for those installing diesel heaters in small EVs. It's better if you get the exhaust to the outside.
      I'm not so worried about the cabin temperature, but more about the battery. When we have a few days with freezing temperature, suddenly the battery is too cold to charge.
      Driving to a fairly low SOC then not being able to charge for several days is not good for the battery.

    Cost, maintenance, if you drive alone or two for your job, or student or a retired couple, why not! It is not a car, but an urban vehicle for a short trip in the urban area. This is really saving money when you compare it with a classic car. For your prestige, it’s better to choose a sports car or SUV, but it’s not the same cost and the same revenue. It’s just a lifestyle choice. I’m wondering if I’m going to buy one. It's the Citroën concept to imagine a vehicle for everyone and cheaper.

    In France, you need to be born before 1988 to be able to drive without license. If born after, you need also AM license.
    It might feel expensive but the main public of this car is :
    - people between 14 and 18
    - people who lost their license (drunk driving for ex)
    Ami sell very well, you have 6 month wait-list, sell 3000k more used than new. This is because the petrol ''sans permis'' car are very low production and expansives. It is cheaper than other brands like Aixam.

      @@alexe1563 Yes, I like this practical way of thinking. It would last quite some time. But it consumes oxygen and expels CO2 inside. But worse: there is the danger that everything starts to burn in case of a crash when the liquid is spilled all over.
      A battery solution seems too heavy and even then, it wouldn't last long. Unless perhaps it was something consuming aluminium or zinc metal so non rechargeable. We have here a problem for the engineers...how to heat electric cars without draining the battery fast.

I can peddle faster than 27 mph on a pedal bike 45 mph is perfect or 50 mph.

    One has always vandals . They make a deep scratch "for fun". Replacing a panel, is probably not cheap. Perhaps there should be special stickers, hiding the area very discreet. It's soft material so one can only make a cut but not a dent, that's an advantage too.

      You can buy 3 Amis for the price of the Toyota AYGO, and in most cities the Toyota will not be faster. Not to mention the Ami will be easier to park, is zero emission, costs less than 0.50 € to do 100 km, requires no maintenance, etc. Maybe "wasting money" is more buying things you do not really need...

    • @MrDuncl
      @MrDuncl ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The 28MPH maximum speed would be a real problem where the speed limit is 40MPH. The imiev which was also sold as a Citroen C Zero can do 80MPH and got a 4 star crash rating.
