Great review of the big Citroen with the small engine. In Germany I did find only one. The guy complained that the 1.2 engine is not moving the car at all. He said he needs ear protection because it is so noisy and the automatic gearbox changing gears whenever it wants but not when it's needed. And if you travel 1000 km you will need road assistance twice at least. That is how paid experts are bashing all non german car brands. Thank you for your realistic and personal insights!

Just about the best review on the C5X. No other video pointed out the 'loose' window, the panel pulling, the or pointing out the positioning of the rear view mirror. I had a C5 bought it brand new, and had it 9 years. I considered it the best car I ever had. I only got rid of it for the diesel scare. I just wished I kept it now. I'm seriously thinking about the C5X in the future.

Great honest review. I've had my 1.2 Shine Plus since late June (one of the last cars in the UK with that nomenclature before they moved to You, Plus and Max). My experience with it so far is 100% consistent with this review right down to the steep hill behaviour, annoying positioning of the rear view mirror (as I also like to sit high) etc. But mine cost me just 28k and I'd challenge anyone to source a large versatile car for that money, especially with so many bells and whistles, many of which are usually only associated with cars costing north of 40k. The engine is plenty powerful enough as long as you're a considerate driver as opposed to a "the road belongs to me so get out my way" type. The 40-odd mpg is the icing on the cake. I agree, it's built to a budget, but the pros so far outweigh the cons. Right, I'm off outside now to check this ambient lighting thing you mentioned as I hadn't realised it even possibly had that .

@@gilbertlufc thank you so much, I’m still loving our one despite my few niggles when we first got it, it’s still so comfortable and quiet and is awesome on a long journey, glad you’re enjoying yours!, all the very best, Jim.

Very good review and realistic. Citroen have dropped the 1.6 petrol engine with 180 bhp anyway. I have a 1.2 Sense Plus in which I have driven over 8,000 miles. On a run it averages a genuine 45 mpg or more, and around town 33 to 35 mpg. The engine has plenty of get up and go, and is silent when cruising.
Stellantis are using the same floor pan and engine in the Peugeot 408, and soon with the Vauxhall Insignia. All basically the same car, but badge engineered British Leyland fashion. It is surprising the C5x did not achieve a full 5 star NCAP rating.
The big disappointment with this car is the ride quality of cars that do not have the active suspension. Only the hybrid models have adaptive suspension. That aside, the car is fantastic value for money and a great space to spend time in. Cost of ownership is low too. It has all the power you need to drive on our congested, and speed monitored motorways. The car also encourages a more relaxed style of driving too. The C5x is made in Wuhan, China.

Really good review thanks! Was wondering about the performance of the 1.2 and loved your demo driving up the hill, something I really missed in all other reviews about the c5x. Thanks for making this video, really makes a difference you actually own the car and know your stuff.

Hi Jim, In Australia we only get one option, we get the Shine with a 1.6 engine. I looked at the specs for this car but it did not mention coloured lights accross the dash. In Australia Citroen don't think we need a centre arm rest with cup holders in the back seat. I find that very odd. Thank you for showing us your car, I really enjoyed your review.
