    You are an explainer, which is a step above a communicator, above a teacher. Love how you explain what you are thinking and doing. While it looks easy, it's really not and very few people can do this well. One cool thing about music is it can be simple or complex, so even a beginner who bangs out 3 chords can be great as music is mostly about soul and feel. Like how you are using the number system here, I've been shifting more to this as it just makes sense from a where the heck am I point of view. Heard this called the Nashville system. 1,4,5, but I'm told I should write that with roman numerals I, IV, V, etc, which kinda freaks my brain out, but I'm working on it. And lower case for minor? Like vii? And I don't think this system lends itself to expressing more complicated chords like major/dominate 7ths, etc. I guess you have to translate easily between them, working on that. While I can read staff music, and I suppose that is the ultimate exact way to express what you are playing, I am more of a guitar player and try notating music on tablet or phone using text chordpro format(mostly lyrics with chord info inserted, simple text[A]). Thanks for sharing!

    I've really been loving your videos! I've found so many great ideas in your playing which leads me to a question - would you be interested in doing a sort of 'licks' video that unpacks some of your quick little right hand moves that give the sound such a distinct blues/funk/jazz inflection? Perhaps a 'bag of tricks' of licks if you will.
    Thanks again and looking forward to more videos!

    And .... another great tutorial! I sure hope that you are a teacher at some school - or college! You'd be great - totally relatable. A few thoughts to add more as filler or background to what you are doing. There are many ways to compose - and the one that you are demonstrating (Kinesthetic Experimentation/Discovery?), I believe, is one of the most common (although several other sources of creation are things such as: feelings of deep sadness generated by being dumped in a relationship, the sound of birds chirping, and/or the sound of birds screaming as they are being attacked by a hawk who heard their lovely bird-song, etc.) Seriously though, inspiration or a source of tonal ideas can come from feelings, observations, words, etc, and of course, a detached creative experience such as formulating contrapuntal patterns (counterpoint). What may be fair to mention to your viewers is that you also have years of experience developing ideas and filling a bucket of options and knowledge that facilitate your creative process (chords, scales, understanding of intervals, collection of licks and runs, etc.) Perhaps I may be wrong in guessing that you are not 17 year old - and if you are 17, you are very talented, and with all that hair, I admire your mother for still loving you! Being serious again - great job letting us peek into how you (or any composer/musician creates). I find it affirming, and I am sure that others will also find it inspiring. Thank you again. If you have the time, you may want to consider the possibility of teaching on-line. Just a thought. (p.s. - There is no such term as Kinesthetic Experimentation/Discovery. I made that up, so don't bother looking for it - you won't find it.) 😎

      Thank you for the deep insights, Rudolf! Something tells me you've done a bit of this yourself!

    • @rudolfboukal1538
      @rudolfboukal1538 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@groovewindow Well actually ... yes I have. But I am always learning, especially from others - learning new skills, or simply being inspired by the enthusiasm and insight that others share. Another great motivation why I spend time watching others is to develop the musical "voice." Making it at anything in life does not require perfection, it requires the "excellence of self." The process of art does not lead you to being better than the next person, but rather being the best "you" - being unique - and finding your voice. This is a very long process, with no time limit or designated finish line - and even once you arrive at its discovery, the refinement continues till the last day you breathe. The best we can do - is share ourselves along the way. An artist (or musician) cannot develop that voice in a void. It is in enjoying and in listening to others that we come to more clearly identify what we have to say, or do, or sing. It is not in being better than, but in discovering the difference between, that helps us define our particular gift - if we were all the same, wouldn't you agree that the world would be quite boring? In the end, I can appreciate your gift, because I have learned to appreciate mine - and our uniqueness creates for our's and other's the chance to freely and invitingly co-exist. I know that the larger world, or the "industry" does not think like this .... but I do, in my world, that I have slowly built around myself, among my family, among my friends, among all those that I meet. So again ... thank you.

    Great stuff. Thanks for taking me up on the suggestion. Having watched it it seems to be the right level. Now to practice it!
    I've just bought a Korg SV1 so I'm loving the Rhodes sound. Maybe try something other than piano next time or how about focussing on bass lines people can tag on their own improvs.
    Thanks again

    Years ago my jazz piano teacher showed a cool lick..I'll pass it along. I'll be very exact so that all can understand. I'm texting might be some typos. Everything is quarter or eighths..could be changed. Left hand plays the circle of fourths or fifths.. C F Bb Eb Ab Db Gb B E A D G C.. When playing the C, play right hand C13 at Bb E A. Next of the F base chromatically descending with fingers of or less locked go down a half step and play A Eb Ab..this has magically turned into the F7 #9 The A is the 3, Eb Is the b7..
    Next left hand Plays Bb as above. The right hand goes down to the Bb13 Ab D G..the b7 3 13.. This can varied of the piano. The beginners should work on the right hand and just move the chord down With no base change it is more less plain. Bb E G is C 13,
    A D# F# is B13, Ab D G is Bb13,
    G C# F# is A13 ..this goes on forever..I am away from the keyboard. So let's do it in numbers on the next..we are at Ab13 now. The root will always be in the left hand or a base player could be playing it in a band. We are interested in b7 3 13.. Thirteen is six with a 3 and b7. Ab13 is Gb C F... Now the pattern will make sense after practice. Also the finger pattern is somewhat challenging.
