Fern: "This Stark guy is a perv." Also Fern: *Looks directly at his groin as soon as she has an x-ray spell* Hm, could it be that I spot a tiny bit of projection here, Fern?
Personally I think Frieren didn’t understand the pervy side of the potion. Her master told her it was something guys liked, but she never bothered to think about WHY they would like. To her, magic in and of it self is interesting, like the spell to see through clothes.
And then there's also the Elves being almost entirely lacking in romantic and sexual urges thing, which probably makes it even harder for her to understand things like that
She did a very mischievous face both times she was holding and describing it. She also referred to that one kid as "the brat that lifted my skirt", so I don't think that she just doesn't understand pervy stuff. I think because of her seemingly low interest in sexual stuff maybe she herself wouldn't be THAT affected by a guy doing something pervy to her, just really annoyed at most, so she maybe wouldn't be aware of how much human women despise that stuff being done to them. So she doesn't understand why enabling guys to do pervy stuff with something like that potion is... immoral. She probably thinks it's just a little silly. ...Or maybe she's secretly a perv, extremely unlikely but technically possible (disclaimer I have just started watching the show so maybe there's something I haven't seen that disproves all of this...)
Clearly, that potion is for medical use, to get easy access to serious wounds without having to waste time cutting through heavy clothing. With how hard Stark gets hit sometimes, he'll probably need it sooner or later
Stark was loved so much, and he never knew it. Frieren shines in these moments, she's not alwaus the one of the receiving end of these emotional revelations, sometimes she's the one dishing them out. Reminding us shes lived the longest and experienced the most out of our cast. To me, Frieren acted like a mother figure for stark here. You'll only see more of that as the show goes on.
I'm gonna steal another comment. When Stark is looking at the sword, flashes of his brother go through his mind. So instead of thinking to pull it out himself, Stark might be thinking his brother might have been able to pull it. Also that moment when you learn Stark didn't just run away, his brother told him to hits the feels.
Yeahh, that reveal that Stark did NOT, in fact, abandon his family, but was told to run because best brother needs him to live on comes out of nowhere and punches you right in the damn feels. This show has made me cry more, and more intensely, than any other in a long time. I absolutely love the crap out of it!
I love seeing how Stark, very much like Frieren, reflects on his past memories and uncovers the truth, realizing that his brother loved him, and while yeah his dad was very blunt and rude, the clan stood their ground and fought, while Stark ran away, also Stark realizing he had been getting presents all this time, happy tears
4:21 I think you're pretty spot on with that, because pretty much every memory that involves Himmel seems to end with Himmel saying something that makes her smile. There is no way in hell he is THAT perfect and tolerant of anything and everything when in came to Frieren, because that sounds more like a Fairytale Character then a Person, which also seems to be another theme of the show, where these Heroes like Himmel do things to try and preserve the legitimate truths about themselves (that they want to show atleast) rather then accept being relegated to some character in some children's Fairytale book. So for a person like that, I don't think they would want to or even try to carry themselves in a perfect manner, even to someone they care about like Frieren. So atleast from how I'm seeing there relationship, I think the light we see Himmel in, definitely holds a heavy Biase from Frieren because she is slowly (by her standards, by ours she already passed a lifetime 😂) developing feelings for him.
I like to think the last thought Stoltz had was at least his baby brother was safe. He fulfilled his duty to the end, and made the ultimate sacrifice to make sure Stark could live on.
what I like about stark's brother is that he always kept his cape clean no matter what but when it came to stark he didn't care if the cape got covered in mud. his actions trully show how much he loved stark
His name (Stolz) means pride in German, which is funny because he doesn't care about the pride that his family or his village has on his achievements and is willing to tarnish that image for the love of his brother.
Frieren is like us dude's that lay in bed thinking of a interaction with a girl years in the past and be like "Wait fuck did they like me/I like them" Elf tism too strong
This anime does the flashbacks soooo good that I wish we had a movie or a spin off about their entire Journey including when Eisen, Heiter and Himmel where younglings.
This episode hit me with a 4kg emotional sledgehammer. You wouldn't think you'd shed tears over grilling giant ass burgers, but that cut to Stoltz grilling for Stark just hits hard. And I'm certain that witnessing HIMmel's resolve after failing the test of the sword was the moment something stirred in the detatched elf mage. The look on her face in that memory says so much with no dialog at all. There's no question that HIMmel had a thing for Frieren. What's devastating is that she's slowly realizing it may not have been one way.
11:04 I think this moment is super important because Frieren isn't saying that romantacizing a hero is a positive thing, in fact, her point is that they swapped the actually amazing story of him failing to draw the sword and saving the world despite that for a story of him drawing the sword and therefore being the prophesied hero. Doing that removes his actual heroic attitude and agency from the situation and makes him more of a legend than the truly heroic person he was. Freiren is clearly lamenting that fact. Tl;dr: In an effort to make him seem more like the predestined hero they erased something truly admirable about him. They removed "Himmel" to prop up "the Hero".
Its crazy how good this anime is. It took me only 5 mins into the 1st episode to fall i love with Himmel, Heiter, Eisen and Frieren. And it took us 3-4 mins to feel so deeply about Stark's brother. 😢
21:25 my sis and i one year decided to go out on a road trip one summer, then next year we did it again. we've done it for over 10 years now. same place every year and same restaurant for lunch, but it's nice
When they revealed that Himmel never pulled the Hero's Sword from the stone back then: the following thoughts came to my mind: 1) either the great calamity that needed the Hero's Sword to vanquish it wasn't the Demon King, which means something else dangerous has yet to happen, OR the Demon King is gonna return and only the Hero's Sword is capable of slaying him 2) it would be cool if either Flamme the legendary mage or Frieren was the one who enchanted the Hero's Sword in the past
This was my impression as well, that something other than the Demon king might be a threat in the future. And I got the impression that the show was hinting that Stark might be the true hero: First they introduce the Hero's sword and then the rest of the episode is all about showing what a good guy Stark is, I don't think it's a coincidence they did both in the same episode. Then right at the end of the flashback talking with Fern when he says "I was a coward that ran from everything" they showed the hero's sword for no perceivable reason for a short moment, might be a Chekov's gun moment.
@@Tony_AM009 The main issue I foresee there is that this could be a "Legend in the background" moment. The Hero's Sword might come back within the lifetime of the story... Or Frieren might be elderly by the time it's relevent.

Imagine having someone that could replace a person so dear to you for 1000 years straight.
3:55 I'm pretty sure it was the other way around, like 99% sure himmel held a one sided crush on freiren but cuz of her rather apathetic/emotionless personality at the time he held himself and never made any moves but as freiren is growing up emotionally maybe she'll start to look at himmel in a different light and fall in love with him after his death, and while this may be a wild theory what if that was himmels intention is by doing what he did for her decades after his passing he was hoping that years after he dies "maybe 1 day she'll remember me and realize that I loved her" or something like that. What makes the author such a genius, they're able to inflict so much emotion on us despite only introducing characters for such short periods. That is such a hard skill to master, and it continues on in the manga to this day.
I JUST NOTICED! They only reason why Stark has heard of the hero sword story while Fern didn't is either because he heard it in his home village, or it was during his 3 year stay at the solar dragon village.
I feel like the sword's myth either related to an event long ago and the sword was put back and the calamity has not risen since (Legend of Zelda Link to the Past style), or the great calamity hasn't actually shown up yet, and the hero will be someone born in that village who pulls the sword free by accident at some point, a classic chosen one scenario.
I'm not sure if Frieren 'loves' Himmel or will come to, but I think she's trying really hard to understand what it means to connect to humans in a meaningful way. For all intents and purposes, Himmel was one of the most important relationships in her life, and it only lasted for what was effectively a really long weekend for Frieren. But I've only seen up to the current episode so I might be wrong.
Stark didn’t try to pull the sword is because he’s an axe user, learning the sword would be too problematic for his role. Also, he’s probs too insecure to think himself worthy of being the one chosen to be the true Hero.
That moment at 21:06 where Stark looks to the side and it cuts to the Hero's Sword for a split second has me intrigued. Did he try to pull the sword and fail, or did he lack the confidence to try, since he still sees himself as a coward and a failure?
Twenty seventh video asking. What I am asking is a reaction to the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann to help us Row Row FIGHT THE POWAH. To be completely honest i think all of us instantly lover his brother so much even without him having alot of screentime and that is beautiful, he truly is a good brother. That scene with the hamburger is probably my favorite in the series and it's so simple.
13:22 i think the problem is you/us sexualizing the feet, exist people with hand fetish but we don't get weird out when hands appear on frame, so in conclusion we are the problem
Granted we use our hands for everything, where it’s unusual to see the bottom of other people’s feet. If we had feet that could grab things like a primate, I think feet would be a much more normal thing to see and thus less weird.
the hero sword reminds me of the game "sword of mana" i liked that story, when the protagonist find the famous sword is just an old rusty sword, and when you go back to the starter village and talk to the old grandpa hero, he tell the true that "the sword of mana" comes from the heart from the soul , but i need it that you ( the group) face adventures, and grow up in power to face the villain. all the journey was not in vain, you have grown stronger and now you have a chance to defeat VILLAIN. so the old hero planned that your adventure forge you into a strong warrior, forge friendship with your comrades and trained to defeat the evil villain.
I firmly believe that Frieren is the ultimate tsundere. Himmel loved her and she loved him back but it's taken her this long after his death to soften up enough to begin to even understand it. I really need her to go to heaven and bawl her eyes out as she confesses and apologizes.
Himmel the Fake Hero, who tried anyways and became a real hero. Heitur the Fake Priest, who faked it until he made it, and in the end was a real priest. Eisen the Fake Warrior, who overcame his cowardice and became a real warrior. That's quite a tale of overcoming the odds and succeeding in spite of prophecy or circumstance. Freiren.. being late to the game as usual, took 80 years before she goes through her personal growth, too.
It actually sounds great for someone like me who's tastebuds....suck XD. I don't like meat and bread combo (bread ruins the taste of the meat to me for some reason). So yeah...a big ole hamburger steak sounds right up my alley.
In episode 3, when she turned 16, it was 27 years after Himmel's death. This episode started by saying it is 29 years after Himmel's death. So, she is either 18 and older than Stark, or she is 17 turning 18 later in the year, and is thus younger than Stark. Either way, they are about the same age.
@@Glaive1771 I see I was off by a year, I vaguely remembered her age being mentioned and I thought I was keeping a decent track, guess I was off a year
The new one piece opening is fanominal, but it goes over the entire section of the arc that's out in the manga rn. On the other hand, there's so much going on, you probably won't understand what's happen8ng in the arc, so up to you if you want to react.
Either that... Or the Sword already did it's purpose way in the past and the Original Hero just propped it there because he wanted to start a Job Change from HERO to MONK or something...?
This is shown here as a joke but it's to pigeonhole everyone into some category. The boy can't carry Frieren because he's a different sex. This is so silly. Especially since he has a good heart. Let's judge others as individuals, not as a group. By their behavior not by appearance or sex. But it was just a joke in the anime.... An often repeated joke.
Gotta question if the real monster in that village wasn't Stark's father. "he still hasn't faced down a monster"? Kid looks to be seven, WTF is wrong with you? You throwing little kids into deadly combat.
I love that Alicia actually understand Frieren's perspective on time. Some would say shes very empathetic and would prioritize her hobby over anybody when its the complete opposite. Frieren is aware of the time gap, if she ever mention staying in a certain town for a very long period of time then shes either trolling Fern or shes just trolling everybody. But at the end of the day, Frieren will always follow what her loved ones desire
And thus we have our party:
Himmel the “fake” hero
Frieren the “disgraceful” mage
Eisen the “cowardly” warrior
Heiter the “corrupt” priest

That moment at 21:06 where Stark looks to the side and it cuts to the Hero's Sword for a split second has me intrigued. Did he try to pull the sword and fail, or did he lack the confidence to try, since he still sees himself as a coward and a failure?
The second one, with both flashbacks confirming it
Twenty seventh video asking.
Words of wisdom
Granted we use our hands for everything, where it’s unusual to see the bottom of other people’s feet.
If we had feet that could grab things like a primate, I think feet would be a much more normal thing to see and thus less weird.
@@Heiryuu in your opinion, does that means that we sexualise things and parts that we do not see often?
Euro Brady likes hands. But for a narrative perspective, he even has him shouting it as an alert sound
the hero sword reminds me of the game "sword of mana" i liked that story, when the protagonist find the famous sword is just an old rusty sword, and when you go back to the starter village and talk to the old grandpa hero, he tell the true that "the sword of mana" comes from the heart from the soul , but i need it that you ( the group) face adventures, and grow up in power to face the villain. all the journey was not in vain, you have grown stronger and now you have a chance to defeat VILLAIN.
so the old hero planned that your adventure forge you into a strong warrior, forge friendship with your comrades and trained to defeat the evil villain.
I firmly believe that Frieren is the ultimate tsundere. Himmel loved her and she loved him back but it's taken her this long after his death to soften up enough to begin to even understand it.
I really need her to go to heaven and bawl her eyes out as she confesses and apologizes.
see through cloth spellbook from episode 6 and a potion that only dissolves clothing from episode 12. Hmm clothing.
Just to show how much of a boss Himmel was:
He killed the Demon Lord with a replica of a holy sword. The kind made to hang over a mantlepiece.
17:31
*Blud really tried to defend his cloud formation allegations xD*
Stark's story made me so sad lmao, I had the same reaction of crying but wanting to laugh the moment Frieren pulled out that potion agian
If I were Stark, I would have broken the rock that was holding the sword.
2:37 ALICIA ... YOU DID NOT JUST PUN ON US THAT CASUALLY
Crazy how Fern's seen Stark naked with that spell, but she won't let him see her naked with that potion. She a hater fr.
Tsundere
AHh cant wait for her to catch up!
@@ShukakuTheCrazy1 Yeh and the extra HIMeel clips
That smug-ass face... the animators deliberately gave Frieren an "Anya smile" there, as it's the same VA.
Hamburger steak is such a weird concept to me. Why is burger with no bun so populer in some places?
It actually sounds great for someone like me who's tastebuds....suck XD. I don't like meat and bread combo (bread ruins the taste of the meat to me for some reason). So yeah...a big ole hamburger steak sounds right up my alley.
I like it with rice more than buns.
Because some people just like pure meat? That's like asking why some people eat jam/peanut butter out of a jar
@@thelastone7123 non clumped up mince meat cooked into rice does sound amazing.
To my knowledge, it's something akin to meatloaf.
Hahahah the anya smug face gets me everytime hahah same VA buy the way
bit sad with the sudden cut on 23:53 also when stark point the other cloud that shaoe like a turd
that ring
fern literally uses a spell to look at him nakey and call him smol pp but hes the perv huh
12:59 if i got Fern's age right then she is 19 in this scene so she is 1 year older then Stark
@@Glaive1771 I see I was off by a year, I vaguely remembered her age being mentioned and I thought I was keeping a decent track, guess I was off a year
THE FRAME
since alicia is almost caught up with this show, maybe she'll watch apothecary diaries next.
The new one piece opening is fanominal, but it goes over the entire section of the arc that's out in the manga rn. On the other hand, there's so much going on, you probably won't understand what's happen8ng in the arc, so up to you if you want to react.
1:45 I daresay the noises he made didn't help. :)
if that motion was creepy then what about kazumas hand?
Emotional damage!!
Day 146 of asking Alicia to play Nier:Automata!!
Anya smug XD
I'm not actually first 🥲
when is the next patreon episode coming?
I warned you about this anime Alicia. 14 more crying episodes.
The scary thing is that the demon lord, who was here for more than a thousand years, was NOT the great calamity from the sword's prophecy.
Honestly, yea, if anyone pulls a sword like that in a peaceful era, that's some mega scary foreshadowing
Either that... Or the Sword already did it's purpose way in the past and the Original Hero just propped it there because he wanted to start a Job Change from HERO to MONK or something...?
I'm actually first, 😲
Noooooo
Stoltz best bro
This is shown here as a joke but it's to pigeonhole everyone into some category. The boy can't carry Frieren because he's a different sex. This is so silly. Especially since he has a good heart.
Let's judge others as individuals, not as a group. By their behavior not by appearance or sex. But it was just a joke in the anime.... An often repeated joke.
Gotta question if the real monster in that village wasn't Stark's father. "he still hasn't faced down a monster"? Kid looks to be seven, WTF is wrong with you? You throwing little kids into deadly combat.
Eyy
HIMmel
I love that Alicia actually understand Frieren's perspective on time. Some would say shes very empathetic and would prioritize her hobby over anybody when its the complete opposite. Frieren is aware of the time gap, if she ever mention staying in a certain town for a very long period of time then shes either trolling Fern or shes just trolling everybody. But at the end of the day, Frieren will always follow what her loved ones desire
You can't spell Himmel without HIM
