A reason I think of is I think Frieren loves humanity. Sure powerful spells are flashy but not useful in times of peace really. What's useful in a time of peace is a silly little spell to clean clothing, make grapes sour, or heat up tea. All her little spells when taught to the world will make a far bigger difference in peoples lives.

I would get Reelseiden it's a spell that cuts stuff great for everyday life, like opening a box or cutting vegs and getting firewood and lastly killing mages.
"cleaving magic which is invisible and cuts through trees like butter" also it apparently cuts through magically fortified armor and magically sealed safes.

Frieren’s theme is one of the reasons why I love the manga, the same way I love Tolkien’s works. Glad to see the anime do it utter justice! Also glad to see it gain popularity, Frieren definitely deserves it, in my opinion.

What I like about these silly little spells is that we, as the readers and anime watchers, are clearly and often shown the consequences of not having them. Frieren spends multiple sleepless nights because she didn't have "lost accessory finding spell". They spend hours (maybe even half a day) cleaning a stone statue because they have a spell that cleans bronze and metal statues but not stone. They get trapped in a dungeon and Frieren saves their asses by having ice cream ice making spell. Not ice cream making spell, but just ice cream ice making spell, which means they won't die from lack of water but they have nothing to eat. If she had tea creation spell then, Frieren could combine the two effects to make tea tasting ice cream and they won't be in danger of starvation either. They spend six months looking for a flower because limitation of spell to make field of flowers is that Frieren has to have seen the actual flower and not a drawing of it.
But it gets even deeper. You can use levitation spell to carry your incapacitated teammate but you can also use it to harvest the whole field of carrots or to easily clean a whole bay (Frieren and Fern have done a work of a whole village in a matter of hours by harvesting the field or months by cleaning the bay).
And then we get to speculation. Imagine if Aura the Guillotine had silly little break-dancing golem spell to work with and improve instead of "compare mana, loser gets enslaved" spell. Instead of becoming a mass murderer with an army of shabby and dirty suits of armor with rotting dead bodies inside that she is animating with her magic, Aura could have had an army of stone golems she is animating with her demonic magic. So Aura the Guillotine never becomes Guillotine!

Frieren is very reminiscent of miyazaki's movies for me, with the focus on how people live their lives, the small little things which don't detract from an epic story but ground it and gives it stakes by making everything feel so real and beautiful. Also the fact it's not afraid to just, take it's time, have breaks, breath.
I really like how the different ways character experience time is portrayed, cause we see how it can make frieren detached from the rest of the world BUT it also gives her some perspective on things, she get time to absorb her experiences, she doesn't fall for demon tricks anymore, she's able to see beauty and opportunities in things other wouldn't consider, and it's not that other can't see it, because when they get to stop and breath too they also realize it was worth it to experience those things.
It would have been easy to write frieren as only disconnected or as only experienced. But she's both and none at the same time. She's connected to different things and she is experience but still lack in a lot of skills like social skills or the fact she is bad at casting holy magic. You can really feel like she has all this time behind her, but she's still a silly little elf. I love her.

[SPOILERS] Wonderful review of many important tropes in Frieren. Anyone who selects out Fern's selection of her Privilege at the end of the Mage Exams is truly someone special who is deep into Frieren's world. Fern is totally Frieren's student. Also there is a backstory at the end of the first Mage Exam. This is a critical deep dive into a speech from Flamme. The brilliant author, Kanehito Yamada, lays out exactly what his story is all about in an ultimate sense. Every word in this factory backstory has import. It is why Frieren's enigmatic Earrings are also a direct reference to Flamme. I noticed that the new ED references those earrings. Nothing has ever been said about them in text, but they are fully and consistent visually. Flamme wears Red Teardrop earrings with a small bauble dangling beneath. These are magical, they are not attached to the ear. Frieren lives for a 1000 years after the death of Flamme and she never wears earrings of any kind. But when she joins Himmel's quest to destroy the Demon King, she begins to wear magical Red Teardrop earrings but without the bauble, and she never takes them off, even to sleep. The new ED might suggest a nuance that Frieren is still dancing in the Palm of Flamme's hand just as Frieren said at her old home where she lived and studied with Flamme. This story is such a deep dive![/SPOILERS]

Its also something that a lot of the spells, since they are being passed down through word of mouth or through tomes and scrolls very specific to when or where Frieren gets them, that these spells are, for the most part not something that would be shared. Unlike the combat magic or mainstream magic that has been honed to a tee and a science that everyone can recognize and utilize, her silly spells are mostly just for her and those around her which also encompasses a small group of people. Much like how the idea of cherishing these tiny details and these moments of serenity around us are often very private and specific; one person's tiny moment of happiness is probably something very specific to them, these spells are very specific to Frieren, and I think having a deep contrast of showing the grandoise nature of large scale magic and how its become this studied thing to just her learning some random thing out in the boonies contributes to that overall feeling of solemn the story wants to convey

I am a bit late to the party but I just have to comment and say this video is amazing and you captured such an important message with it. Its such a great explanation where her love for these silly little spells come from and I really enjoyed Fern growing on it too. In a way Fern is just like the viewer. I myself felt the same kind of urgency whenever Frieren suggested doing something for literal years in return for a spell I see no use in. The more of such quests our Group went through though the more I learned to appreciate them. Not only did the spells often come in handy and create these fun, cozy moments you explained. Small happy situations we just need to keep going through life but also I think the quests themselves had the same effect on Fern. She learned to enjoy helping others, the happy little accidents the group had working on the task and just living in the moment and enjoying life. Another interesting aspect for me is the fact both Fern and Frieren are the counterpart to Serie when it comes to what magic represents in their eyes. I always call Frieren and Fern mages of Peace while Serie is a mage of War. While she mainly views it as a tool, a weapon and power Fern and Frieren are mages of Peace. They simply enjoy making people happy with magic and have a feeling of love for magic itself.
An amazing video you made there and ive re-watched it a few times already. Keep up the great work and an amazing take on this topic and a good lesson for life. Id recommend Girl´s Last Tour to you since it also has a lovely take on this concept of taking life as it comes and appreciating every small little thing.

I love her silly spells. it shows exactly how much she learned to pay attention to others. Like how she knows everyone's birthdays despite that probably being a far too frequent date for her.

The show really does put a lot of emphasis on appreciating more nuanced things in the down time. Something Frieren came to learn about herself. We're learning from her, and from the story itself, as the audience.

I love her silly spells. Frieren made mundane folk magic beautiful and human. While Himmel left statues of their Hero party along their journey so people would remember them by, Frieren embarked on a similar personal quest of collecting magic spells so they wouldn't be lost to time. The pine cones made me smile. I have this habit of collecting stuff that I found on the ground like toys, trinkets, pebbles, a rusty pocket knife and even some sort of local seeds that look like pine cones but spikier. In my car there are a number of these items and some are kept in containers at home.
Every weekend I would have breakfast at any noodle shop. I would parked a little farther because of the full parking spots and I like to walk. I love watching the crowd between my walk to and from the noodle shop. It feels so alive with all the sights, sounds and smell. It's the little things.

The food parallel works especially well.
Even if not stopping at the bare minimum, you can either always eat following your routine or explore new possibilities. Small change in seasonings, ingredients, going to a new restorant and trying to guess what's different about this chef's technique to replicate an aspect you liked more than you own cooking, it all adds up even tho these steps are small. Then you use this knowledge to cook whatever a friend visiting you likes, or something that reminds you of past holidays with your familly, etc.
Or you can just go to new places to eat just for the heck of it, and appreciate more foods made by other people without a special goal in mind.

Shout out to the tiny red accent you sometimes see in Frieren's eye. it's such a simple addition but one I don't think I've seen before in character design and it really is the part that makes the sum greater.

4:58 Idk if this is gonna be read but one important aspect of "laundry magic" and of mundage magic as whole is this idea magic of the era peace. Magic prior to the defeat of the demon lord centers almost entirely for war so magic that is made for joy or to make lives easier is considered "lost." Since Frieren is a mage suited for an era of peace, her collecting these everyday mundane spells is in a way a representation of the world moving from an era of war and violence back to an era of peace. None of the spells that Frieren learns (except for the running gag see through clothes spell) are useless and in fact often are the types of spells that make lives easier or bring people comfort.

A spell to clean your clothes would be so helpful today, but imagine how valuable it would have been if you were constantly on quests at a time way before electricity.

6:44 Some of the most wonderful moments in my life have been some of most mundane.
The simple act of stopping to feel an autumn breeze blow by, enjoying a cup of coffee during a quite night, or to hear nothing more than the ambient sounds from around you as you walk.
I've always had a bit of a rough life, juxtaposed with a good family, but always caught in the tension between the two. With the death of my dad last year, my little brother discarding my mother and I for his wife and their family, and the financial ground under my feet constantly falling out from under me - It hasn't done wonders for my already bad health and to say the least.
Yet, through the violence and pain which stain my memories like unsightly ink blotches it's those small mundane moments that keep me smiling.
A sip of warm soup on a cold night.
Distant sparrow-song while on a lone patrol.
    One quiet moment.
The simple, oft overlooked things can bring so much happiness. In an adventurous life full of tumult and unpredictability the silly little moments can grant an oasis of reprieve for the soul.

In addition to paying attention to the small moments in life, something else I would highly recommend is to make a record of them somehow, like in a journal. In my case, I started a private blog, though you don't need to go that far. I just like being able to display my pictures together with my journal entries. But it's nice to have something to look back on, especially when your memory isn't so great.

one thing i love is that a lot of the silly little spells she collects, reflect the people in her life. Frieren mentions having a spell to turn grapes sour and just a few episodes later Heiter motions he loves grapes, the sour the better. you will see these small interactions braid together all the time and to me it read as if collecting spells is a way for Frieren to commemorate the people in her life.
