Safe travels! And yes, Virginia doesn’t play at all when it comes to radar detectors! When i was a kid, driving through Virginia to go to Florida my father got pulled over for his radar detector! A second cop left a traffic stop just to pull him over. They gave him a ticket, told him they could take it and that he needed to put it in the trunk!
VA and DC watch around the boarder then loosen up once in state.
I've really enjoy my R3...i dont have it hardwired so when i see that it's not turned on I rush to turn it back on lol...def a must have!

Are you still feeling that diverter valve? I cant decide it doesn't sound like a wastegate whoosh. It sounds kind really different almost like a sigh lol
It really varies, the sound has changed drastically since I got a new intake. Much quieter now

Have the Uniden R3 it's excellent on Ka radar, almost or as good on K band with older Escort Redline and Valentine Research. On X band like they use in New Jersey and Ohio, detection wasn't good the last time I was in New Jersey. Hopefully since the last 1.53 firmware this was fixed?

Bro i have both R3 on benz and R7 on bmw. They work perfect for me, I Drive always on i80 and always catches cops on Ka-band, when u get lasered etc. You should get the R7 over the R3 (R7 recently released thats why R3 price went down but they both are extremely accurate,best radars out there) R7 comes with a bigger screen and arrows to tell you where the cops are at. Look into VortexRadar youtube/website he gives you the best settings to use in NJ/NYC and make sure ur firmware is up to date to always stay a step ahead. Enjoy!

Thic F30 Yup hes the best at it! Also keep in mind using/having radar on/mounted if ur coming here to jersey from the south its illegal in Virginia and Washington DC u will get ticket and possibly the radar taken away if u get caught

Haha, sorry I don't intend this as a negative, I just it funny you are seemingly very concerned about having problems/breakdowns on your trip up.. I drive my f30 1200miles per week on average. Long distances with no worries at all. A tire patch kit gives me all the peace of mind I need. Don't buy into the BMW unreliability propaganda

Please don't speed in VA lmao I live here due to being in the navy and I can tell you I drive to NJ all the time and the cops are everywhere you don't expect and there are lots of speed traps lol after you leave VA though you're good to drive spirited
