- There is so much to do on this BMW R 100 S (MY 1976) project and the amount of work is overwhelming. But we need to get started and I decided that the fork will get it´s first service after 40 years and 56.000 Kilometers. You won´t believe how it looks inside.
Subscribe to follow the mission of assembling this great piece of history. It is a huge project because someone else disassembled the bike 20 years ago and I got it in pieces.
Following models have the same fork:
BMW R50/5 R60/5 R75/5 R60/6 R75/6 R90/6 R90S R60/7 R75/7 R80/7 R80RT R80 R100/7 R100S R100RS R100RT R100CS

This video clearly shows that it is necessary to service motorbike forks sometimes. You can decide if your fork works correctly when the inside looks like this one.

Great video, it has been at least 20 years since I had my last fork apart I am enjoying watching what you are doing.
Hey bryan, thank you for your comments. Feels good when people enjoy what I do.
Two weeks ago I have opened a front fork of a BMW R60/5, have the same problem, the rubber dumper was destroyed and contaminated the fork. The three sealing rings got stucked because of the rubber debris.
Did you repair it or will you do it after watching the video?
@@bikedogtor1663 The fork is good, I just have to clean it but I am waiting for some parts (seals and rubber dumpers).
Love the choice of shoes, I've been guilty of this many times. Also great video, I'll be referencing this when I take mine apart.
As well as normal fork service a fork brace makes a big improvement in stable handling. I wouldn't ride an airhead without one.
What do you mean by that? Does it make the fork stiffer? The Airhead has a steering damper already
@@bikedogtor1663 A fork brace joins the lower legs together hence removing much of the flex. Completely different job than a steering damper. Google it up.
That rubber piece in the lower slider spring …. What’s it called
I need to order some.
It's a kind of stopper but if this is the name? Idk
Bikedogtor you replaced yours? Where did you get it?
Those flip flops are scary
Safety shoes 😜
Nice video I don’t know if I should attempt or not
Do it
Thanks very much, great Tutorial.
Thank you. But remember: I am no bmw pro :-) everything here is try and error and a workshop manual
Hi and thanks, recently got all the internal parts ( after watching your film ) and I'm just waiting for new Springs to arrive , I don't think that the Forks have been touched for 40 years so I'm expecting them to look like your internals . Thanks for all your support.
