    A dream to see the R100S in this video. I had one from 1981 to 1984. Screwed it on every winter. The difference was aluminum wheels, no spokes. And I had disc brakes in the back. She was red too. At that time I had installed an electronic ignition, a larger oil pan, footrests set back, M handlebars, triple clamp and and and. Those were nostalgic feelings seeing the video. thanks for that.
    I drove with that bike to the tt course isle of man, north cap, French, Andorra Spain. 40000km in tree years.
    Now after 38 Years i make a comeback with a Royal Enfield interceptor 650. Such a beauty bike. Greets from germany

    Cool bike, and great video. But do your self a huge favor and get some Copper Anti seize. Lay it on thick. Especially on all muffler and pipe joints. Most importantly, on the threads of the head where the pipe flange threads onto the head. It should be reapplied annually.

      Hey, thanks for your really nice comment. It depends how many hours you spend. On this project it was roughly 40 hours with a lot of research for parts and so on. I don't know what bike mechanics usually charge per hour.

      @@bikedogtor1663 from what i saw it looked pretty good on yours, better than what i saw on r1100/r1150 models. it occurs under the triple tree, behind he fairing / head light.
      Maybe the plating is ticker on the old airheads.
      I think it's best everyone should pass a oily rag every 14 days or so, to prevent rust / pitting, because they are kinda expensive to replace, there are company that can re-chrome them.

    You inspired me to start looking for one of these bikes. Roughly how much is a restoration like you did? Very impressive work a new a joy to watch.

    • @bikedogtor1663
      @bikedogtor1663  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, great to read. It's so much fun to do a restoration. Roughly it was engine rebuild 2000€, parts sand blasted and coated 300€, paint 600€, all small parts like bearings etc. 1500€
      But of course this varies a lot according to which people you know and where you live.

    NEVER heat a bearing like that. You have annealed the rollers, they will last 20 minutes and then gall.

      You should put the bearing in an oil bath ad heat the oil on a stove.

    👍👍 Thanks for the upload; going from '83 R80RT to R100 "S": R80 Heads cut for larger bore ("squish zone"/compression boost + Dual Plugs)... taller 5th gear (after tranny rebuild). Also original Red/Gold metallic. Re: "S"... staying with original cam and rear drum (no rear disk conversion) Questions: 4 gauges? (oil pressure? sending unit?) who matched the original color? (what paint was used? - Brand/color code?) some previous attempts ended up with "pink-ish" tint... yuk! Original BMW color code NLA(?) Theory: R100 jugs with R80 heads adds a touch of mid-band "grunt" - of course, carbs re-jetted. Still toying with idea of electronic speedo (with wired hall sending unit, at tranny) finding correct size speedo for original appearance... +500 bones?? dunno, yet... hmmm. Spoked wheels also a tasty addition... in lieu of Alu "snowflakes".
