What a brilliant surprise this DLC was. Completely unexpected, and way better than I was anticipating. The fights against Tyr were also very enjoyable. My combat is lacking as I haven't played much after release, and I didn't get a chance to prepare for the DLC once it was announced. I got farmed a lot while relearning lol. So as you can see, the gameplay won't be the best. There's also technically other Tyr fights you can repeatedly play, but they're just randomised matchings of these 4 set fights, so I left it at these.
Additionally, with the way the DLC is structured, it heavily promotes using a single weapon and certain attacks, as the glyphs heavily buff a specific weapon and attacks. For example, the Blades buff that gives extra AoE damage on every R2 attack is pretty crazy. Combine that with the perfect glyphs you can get access to for the later fights, and it can make a huge difference to the amount of damage you're putting out. I think that's probably the only downside to the DLC though, as the most enjoyable part of combat in this game was constantly weapon swapping and using the runic attacks and combos as often as possible. But the way it builds up one weapon each attempt, kind of goes against that.
Outside of that minor gripe, the DLC was a blast for me. I had a lot of fun with it, and that's as somebody who generally doesn't enjoy roguelites. The way they structured this made it great even for me, and I enjoyed the constant overall progression as you got through each run and attempt. More wings and fights constantly opening up, I didn't expect it to be as big as it was.
I'll have another video with all bosses no damage in the DLC, including all of the repeatable ones from the base game that appear in here. I need to do a couple more runs to have the Berserkers appear, but outside of those I believe I've found every boss.
Finally, I waited until the weekend to post this to be respectful of spoilers. Posting the name and picture of the boss is pretty unavoidable these days, unless you don't want the video to be searchable or viewed at all. So I think it's pretty fair game at this point, especially considering 2 hours after the entire DLC was spoiled by many channels already.

21:01 Katana: 🇯🇵
So like tyr been adventure to more myth before odin catch him , i wonder what the other mythology feeling when hear that some white powder dude just ruin an top dynasty god
The spear isn’t Greek, it’s Norse
@@WitcherGerdSos cómo imbécil, Grecia es un país nordico
@@WitcherGerdthe spear originated in Uruguay
@@WitcherGerdthe use of spear and shield, was much more used and known worldwide, from Greece, due to a phalanx tactic, so much so that the shield that tyr uses is a bronze shield, popular in Greece, it is most likely that it was given to tyr by the Greeks, during the "reconstruction years", which he cited... not to any historical quote of Norse warriors using spear and shield, only in mythology...
I also feel like this is Kratos finally meeting his equal, or even his superior, a god that can finally show him a real resistance. I saw once, on another video, a comment saying "Tyr gives me the impression he is holding back" and I totally agree with this
It's the punch catch.
that is definitely Tyr being like 'I could total you but I won't 'cause that's not what we're here for'
I disagree, the current Kratos holds himself absurdly, he has always been treated in history as having an absurdly high strength even compared to other gods, Kratos showed that even without fighting seriously he would humiliate Thor and Odin, Tyr certainly seems to be the closest god Kratos' level, but I doubt it will be equal or higher
And I also disagree, since canonically (in the game), this blow from Kratos was with him holding back a lot too, what you think is that tyr is much superior to kratos mentally but kratos must be at least slightly superior to tyr physically @@deoxys1783
@@victorricardorezende8079I think Tyr is likely equal to current Kratos. Kratos didn't wield many forms of magic like he is back then. Except if we're talking about Young Kratos who still wields a lot of olympus magic, equipments, has the Blade of Olympus and the Power of Hope inside him.
Kratos showed the ability to use the Blade of Olympus in story mode (where the writer himself said that the events reflected in Valhalla are canonical, if Kratos can use the Blade of Olympus he can use the other magics, that's the only logic@@hououinkyouma5998
Tyr is truly everything he is said to be. Glad the stories and description of him from the 2018 GoW were true.
17:50 that blindness fadeout was really cinematic
And also an explosion as Kratos finished Tyr with his left uppercut is a true cherry on top
1. Spear & Shield : Fighting like a Greek Hoplite.
2. Macuahuitl : Performing Aztec Blood Magic.
3. Khopesh : Summoning the Darkness, Egyptian greatest Enemy.
4. Katana/Nodachi : Fighting like Japanese Samurai.
Darkness is the greatest Egyptian enemy???
@@bluebunny4057yes. Apep who is the arch nemesis of Ra (God of Life and the Sun) is the embodiment of Darkness and Chaos in Ancient Egypt
The spear and shield are Tyr's original weapons. That form of weaponry was not limited to Greece.
@@Daniel-si7zp ohhh thx fir explaining
@@spectacularnub3468yeah spear and shield is super universal
i see you doing hitless and deathless speedruns everywhere and its really really impressive, but are you ok?
hes not ok hes ascended
The man is working. While he is my superior in almost every way, I understand the drive.
He plays d2 like most of us, no we’re not ok
He is him
He’s no longer ‘ok’, he is now THE god of war.
Santa monica: no one in the studio has beaten tyr at max difficulty
Gow community: proceed to mop the floor with tyr few days after launch
GOW community really went and said “Hold my beer” to the studio 😂😂.
So, pretty much this whole dlc is just Kratos going through a therapy session 😆
and dragging us to therapy too😅
And tyr is the therapist. Tyr is probably the ancestor of Johnny sins
Like Naruto in the fall facing his Mirror.
Yes
I've finally understood why exactly Tyr fought Kratos. To release the anger the last feels towards himself so that it doesn't cloud his mind. That is how battles bring enlightenment
Seeing how hard kratos is hitting puts into perspective how much he was holding back at the start of the game. His first fight with Thor his punches felt weak until the last one were he was angry. Here his punches sound like gunshots and the shockwave of them blows air away.
So You're saying that Tyr is stronger than Thor
@@Sun-God2 I suppose in a round about way I am yes but that wasn’t what I was really getting at
@@Sun-God2I wouldn't say that is a far-fatched idea. Considering all the learnings Tyr earned in his travels. Skills, mastery of weaponS, magic, even strength.
I can see why Odin would regard Tyr as a serious threat to his rule, but it begs the question: How the hell did Odin actually manage to imprison Tyr?
Wasn't it stated that Thor, Heimdall, Baldur and Odin jumped Tyr at the same time with some very powerful monsters?
@@dande-lion No idea lol
It probably was easy, but not impossible. On top of being a damn wizard with a lot of tricks, Odin is notoriously crafty when it comes to screwing with people in a way they didn't see him coming.
maybe he willingly let odin imprison him as he is peace loving after all
Thor on his own could handle Tyr. Thor is widely regarded as Odin’s most powerful and feared child.
I love how each of Tŷr's weapons are a mirror of our own essentially and we fight him in reverse order of Kratos getting his versions. This fight, especially the fourth, is amazing to play as it truly feels like we're fighting another master of combat and god of war. And Eso came and mopped the floor with him 😂
How are they a reflection of our own weapons??
@@sleepy9102 his spear and shield = draupnir. the kopesh, both in combat style and the dual-wield = Blades of chaos. The massive sword = the blade of Olympus rage. The katana in element = Leviathan
Cool but we don't fight them in the reverse order of Kratos getting them, otherwise the Macuahuitl would be the first weapon Tyr uses.
@@henriquecesardesouzasilva8766 true. Initially, I equated the large sword to Levi in my head cuz they were slower in combat style. Hence my comment on acquisition timeline. But given my actually stated equivalences in a previous comment, the "reverse acquisition timeline" is no longer an accurate assessment
i really like Tyr's dialogue in this. He is such a good sport to Kratos.
Týr is currently whooping my ass on the final fight.
Edit: I beat him.
Bro he's fucking me up, how did you do it brother
Feels good doesn’t it?
@@DanielRodriguez-dt9rt I JUST FUCKJNG BEAT HIM. IM SO HAPPY
I am on my way to the final fight, i'm doing it on hardest difficulty
I finally beat him yesterday, tough fight but felt so rewarding to finally win
I dig the new (tragic) perspective on Kratos pledging his soul to Ares: the fact that the Spartans were the last line of defense against the barbarians, thus pushing Kratos to resort to the most desperate measure
If you think about it this way: The room represents Kratos' mind and when he finally faced the deepest depths of his mind we can see that it is still 'ruled' by his younger self (representing that part of his mind/of his self), seemingly not even wanting to let him enter, which is why he first had to become 'ready' to face him/it. After that sequence literally with himself, we can finally see that he has overcome that part and is not the sole ruler of his mind, his inner self.
And like the 'new' Kratos entered this 'throne room of the mind' as an outsider, the old one is still prone to re-enter, which is why he stated preamptively that, if he should return, he will not know if that part regains control or not. But what is sure is that the inner conflict is now put aside. This is further highlighted by the fact that Kratos now fully sees his potential within hope and from the standpoint of hope as a concept. There are other sequences in the story where this surfaced, especially when Kratos spoke to Atreus and told him he should 'open his heart'. This acceptance is the key to all of this
I don’t know if any one else noticed but when tyr goes on top of the doors it resembles the same pose as his statue in the lake of nine
The ending is very profound but ultimately simple: self-hate never works because when everyone leaves self is the only one left for any of us, hate that and you have nothing - so no matter how badly you screwed up instead of simply hating the past you, accept them and treat the mistakes as learning material instead.
People say video games won't teach you suitable life lessons, but that's very great and profound.
Battle of the legends. 2 God of wars. Tyr is helping Kratos overcoming his past and share knowledge of other countries he visited. Greece, mayan land, Egypt and Japan. He acquired their weapons.
Mayan land? The macuahitl is astec
More like mesoamerican which is a region its not just the aztecs and the maya are part of mesoamerica just as much as the aztecs are
The spear and shield are actually Tyr weapons, not ones he got from Greece. Besides that, correct.
“I brought something else to keep you interesting”
Pulls out MG42.
You’re not the only ones with weapons from far off TIME you know. Ready?
Brrrrrrrttttttt
Beautiful! There's a certain combat rhythm that accompanies the use of the parry mechanic in this game. Most combat videos are ugly to watch because they just spam the realm shift and dodge forward spin attack. But this... This is so satisfying to watch. You've achieved the rhythm and it almost looks like a dance!
I will forever love Tyr catching/stopping that punch from Kratos.
Awesome work Eso! I didn't realize how good the cutscenes were as well. I need to play some more GoW.
Thanks! The DLC is brilliant, you'll love it. Loads of content, both combat and story. Especially good considering it's free
Love your video, and I love how satisfying parry gameplayy it's just soo nicee sounds🎉🎉🎉
I got anxiety just watching this master! I do not miss the hours of stress that came along with 100% completion. I downloaded this add-on, but I won’t play it anytime soon 😂😂😂.
This dude is cracked at destiny and GOW 😂😂 what else
Edit: I found this channel looking for a d2 witch queen legendary walkthrough (so I know what I was getting into) and only watched those vids. I took a quick glance at the recent videos and this guy is actually cracked wide open. 300+ souls
Bosses no dmg, solo nightfalls, solo this solo that… mans is a living legend
All the game he doing everything no damage in these games
@@ehsan1-I dead just realized, peep the edit
legit this man does not know how to be bad at a single game
@@darkcrypter3305not to mention it doesn’t matter if he uses a controller or m&k
Imagine in the end he got minigun
Worst yet... Ramming you with M1 Abrams or call for CAS from A-10 Warthog =w=
Nah man i just was thinking doing a video on but realize heel no no damage wouod literally fry my brain from the rage. My god. You did not dissappoint.
Absolute legend i tell you
When he took out the katana, you can hear what sounds like japanese flute music for a few seconds, which was a very nice touch
When the devs said no one on the team beat the final boss on the hardest difficulty they never accounted for the anomaly known as Esoterickk
Yea, this guy is the real deal. As much as I play this game I can not get on this level of mastery
Amazing performance and reflex bro✌️
Wow i like how tyrs not a bad guy the musics omnious but all it is a friendly sparring match plus wow the weapons are cool and a great universe builder
Bro your insane I used 2 res stones on that final fight and still lost he was so low health too 😢 mastery is hard asf
Well done. Congratulation
youre really good at the game man!
I like the death cry that is heard when he invokes Aztec Blood Magic with the Macahuitl.
I love it that in the second duel Tyr uses a two handed Aztec/Mayan machuital probably belongs to the Aztec god of war Huitzilopchtli
Yep, it's aztec, but the Huitzilopochtli's weapon is the snake of fire Xiuhcoatl, the most powerful weapon forged by the aztec gods 😉
@@RosaMariaGonzalezPozos you think if they do an aztec DLC his weapon could be an actual snake or a wip of some kind?
@@frankiehernandez6232 I think as a summoning, like Atreus did in God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarök, The weapons that we could use may be spears, shields made with sea shells, the Macuahuitl, Bows and arrows, daggers.... Or replicate the Xiuhcoatl.
Let's see how Santa Monica is going to surprise us 🙃
Christ above, you’re good man. Tyr kicked my ass in the Macuahuitl segment.
I got a bug where a copy version of him stays after the last fight, and prevents me from progressing 🫠 He just angrily follows me and I can't fight him lol
@tylerthere5832
That’s rough guy. I haven’t experienced that yet. Are you playing console or pc out of curiosity?
Tyr is the most calm and reasonable god of war. I give him a 10/10 rating.
Ive gotten to Katana and holy crap is this hard, but it seems the key is to dodge the red moments and times he clones himself and time the shield parries with all his other attacks in order to win...great
Imprecionante solo te falto hacer cancelamientos runicos y combos ocultos y habria sido perfecto!!!
This was very satisfying
I'm here for all the parrying. Easily the coolest sound effect in the whole damn game 😂
Notice how Mob will go for sacrifice during Macuahuitl fight? Refer to aztecan myth with Blood sacrifice
Norse Bifrost
Egyptian: Daze to refer the importance of Sun/Light
Katana: lightning. Refer to the Storm in JP myth
Macuahuitl: Fire. Idk what is the importance of Fire in Aztecan myth
Well aztecan has the blood spell that Týr uses because of the sacrifices i think
And btw the katana is ice as its looks and it gives freeze effect on kratos
23:18 not going to lie... Tyr looked like a badass at the end of the combo he made
Bloody hell Tyr can create multiple illusions of himself
It’s literally god of war vs god of war but in honor
16:57 i didn't noticed that in the khopesh fight he could still use the macuahuitl... Cool
In the main story i suspect from the fake Tyr when he said "i'm a pacifist" he IS a warrior and this dlc prove it
To be fair, pacifism is moreso the belief of trying to avoid war by all means, which fits with Tyr's character as he would rather settle things peacefully despite his title as The God of War.
It's just that if it has to come down to war, he will put his title to use.
But yeah, the fact Fake Tyr actively refused to fight was sus as fuck.
Lore Accurate Kratos
What kind of mad bargain did you make with the video game gods for this level of skill?
Too good!
After how nice and wise Tyr turned out to be, making a GoW game with Jesus in it seems superfluous.
I wonder what would Ares react when he faces Tyr’s in his God of War Mode.
Týr would break his Mind, Body, and Spirit for sure.
17:46 i love the explosive punch there
I ALMOST beat the final Tyr , got him down to the final half bar and a half
Died and I didn’t hit the R2 Button for resurrection……..
I can’t believe it man
Edit - I beat him n did another run n beat it
Amazing skill
Was surprised tyr used extra people in samurai sword fight. I had him beat also
4:36
Must be so shocking for Kratos to see his young self staring back at him
Been trying to do fight 3 did a few attempts got annoyed so left it and forgot about it for a few months now back at it
I think it's quite cool that the R3 circle at the end doesn't glow red since, despite the fight ending, you don't kill tyr
I just noticed that there are slight variations in the fight music when Tyr introduces the different weapons, is it just me??
Wow Tyr is strong 💪
Tyr: "Stop moving so much!"
Bully Kratos: "You wanna Cry, Tear?" xD
3rd fight is kicking my ass at the moment
What does the watermarked statistics at top right corner signify (below the difficulty level) and how do you show that?
Is there a way to avoid the Golden balls attack in the second fight besides running and escaping them, I am stuck on the second fight simply because I can't avoid hits from those golden balls and Tyr also knows that so he keeps spamming those (have just tried it twice though, planning to retry again tonight) :(
Seems there is no other way aside from running/dodging around the golden waves.
You can parry them with the shield also!
I think that you can only parry them on the lower difficulties, on the two hardest they're unblockable @@DAEMONF1RE
I thought you would do this with intruder debuff
How did u get your relique to reload thst fast can U do a full quide what the best equipment is?
21:01 show me your motivation, Kratos! Scum! Blast! Die!
"Now I'm motivated"
"This may be fun"
"You are not worthy as my opponent"
You love to see a man absolutely decimate a boss with pure skill and knowlage of how to use his arsenal
Just a totally not crazy idea. What if you do this all again but without weapons?? Do you accept the challenge or its too much??
I love the part when he says um huxen
1000/10
So with the katana how do u tell fake from real tyr,ive just been guessing and i did finally get him
Hope someone do a fight with a different challenge
1. Only spear
2. Only axe
3. Only blade of chaos
4. Just use 2 type 😅
Only blade of Olympus
Whoever did that in show me mastery is the true God of war
20:59 Am I the only one who noticed the Japanese flutes playing right after he pulled out the Katana.
You can hear chanting in the spear fight, you can hear a mayan flute during the macahuitl fight, you can hear drums in the khopesh fight, and japanese flutes in the katana fight
I couldn't beat him without a resurrection stone.. GG
There he is... There's the God of War
The double kahopi is hard i keep dieing
Are you sure you're on the hardest difficulty because his health bar color is a dark Yellow and I'm on the difficulty in between and his color is purple for me. Never mind I'm stupid I was watching the wrong fight
17:50 ngl, that finish was cinematic.
You know I’m starting to think that Faye and tyr was right about when kratos actions were unjust to himself, he was lost and he needed some motivation to bring himself back from his long years of suffering and guilt. The fact is the truth hurts and accepting the past can cause him to stray from a path forged through a new world is not easy to overcome.
I finished god of war ragnarok valhalla 100%
I was stunned af when I realized I was just parried by tyr
Why do you only use the combo of R2, R2 and R2 with so much variety there is?
¿How does he do so much damage using the swords of chaos?
Good fighting. Got it done before they nerfed the difficulty.
How are your hits so powerful?
Which attack is that with the multiple awords
It’s not max difficulty but still beautiful play 👌
How. Just how are you the best at every game Esterickk, How do you do it?
My ps5 copy crashed right after defeating Tyr for the last time... 😒 Now, I have to defeat him again.
can't imagine how strong Kratos if he had his younger strength and wisdom from old Kratos, dude literally Become Tyr
Old kratos is stronger
This dlc takes the best from gow reboot and packs it in 30min runs. Feels so nice to fight booses without need to play as a spoiled kid. Just wish they added 3 valkyries from main campaign to bosses pool.
Nice
the handshake after the first fight💗💗
He played a lot in the first fight, he made it look too easy. Good job champz.
I fr need someone to help me on the dual blades part
I can't even get passed the first Tyr fight 😂I suck at these games lol
