The only honost way too interpret that line in the context of the friendzone would be realizing that if you are in a friendship only for the hopes of getting laid then that isn't a true friendship or love and you should probably look inward a bit more.
@@omnipresentl1316Respectfully I disagree, at least with regards to what you’re saying as pertains to Mimir’s quote. I understand it as Mimir saying that if that love would look to you and truly consider you a friend, then it takes a fool not to recognise how powerful that trust is. It may not have been the love that you had wanted, but only the shortsighted would not recognise how lucky they are to be called friend by one they respect and cherish. And they wonder why their own lovers never end up being worth their own time (IE, the person in the friend zone thinks their own partners unworthy), because they don’t understand that real, genuine friendship is one of the strongest loves there is, and without understanding that loving a person as they are, independent of your wants (ie, a friend), you cannot hope to truly love and be loved romantically. Incredible to me that a video game can inspire such a great philosophical debate amongst fans!
This is why I love Mimir so much in this game. He’s so understanding and selfless. The fact that he put Sigrun’s choices and happiness first over his own pride makes him a true, positive role model. I’m glad this game is making all the male characters positive role models, except for Atreus, and sympathetic. It shows that the level of maturity and respect for the male demographic and representation is so strong and pure.
Atreus is quite literally every angsty male teenager going through life trying to set himself apart from his parents only to fuck everything up in the process and ends up needing them to help put it right. He's an excellent representation of our own teenage years of being young and foolish, thinking we know what we're doing.
And Sigrun reciprocate those feelings "let me return to you, whole" I love those 2 so much, and I'll patiently wait for see them reunited in the future.
Tyr really just starting a big therapy session for all the characters lmao When will Sindri get his big therapy session with Tyr, he's the one who really needs it the most
God it makes me so happy seeing the real tyr in action and how much Odin tried slandering his character and how good of a person he truly is and isn’t a pushover as well since he is a master of arms and could easily have been able to sway ragnarok way more on their favor and maybe not lose freyr
@@BitrateBilly you know, he might just be Jesus as well, Mimir is also Puck from Celtic mythology after all. But I’d imagine he’s not quite Jesus yet in canon
I replayed the story after completing the Valhalla DLC (so I could go through again as Young Kratos), and man it just highlights how bullshit Odin’s version of Tyr is. The real Tyr is awesome
I sometimes forget that sigrun started out as a mere optional boss to a side quest. She had a few lines and that's it. But in ragnarök and valhalla she becomes such a deep and rich character i love it
Everyone talks about how Mimir's love story, but can we talk about how Kratos appreciate Faye in one of the dialogs. Even we have seen so little time they interact with each other, seeing those moments he appreciated her for being there for him and also changing him from what he used to be is really great to see for a character such Kratos.
"show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and I'll show you someone who wonders why their lovers are never worth their time" ...well that hit me like a brick wall
@@Genburthingthat's not what he said at all. He's saying that friendship is the foundation of love and people who don't treat their lovers like friends will not feel connected to them
What I've learned from gow Valhalla is that it's just one big therapy session from Kratos learning he can take the throne and be a God of hope to mimir letting go of sigrun and realizing he became a better man out of it, and sigrun learning to take the reigns of her life and take a path of her choosing. Valhalla is helping everyone with their traumas.
As a huge lifelong GoW fan, I was so pleasantly surprised to have this DLC and its lore harkening back to the old games As someone who wrote my college thesis on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, hearing Mimir recall the entire story within his dialogue made this whole thing WAY too good to be true for me
"If anyone else disparged you as you disparge yourself, I would wish to hit them with an axe." Just goes to show how much Kratos values Mimir's company.
The good version of the kind of character arc that media like the Mulan remake tried to make. Rather than concluding that she doesn't need anyone else and that everything she needs is within herself, Sigrun instead concludes that she DOES need other people - like Mimir - but that she also needs to know and rely on herself as well, that one needs a balance between acting for oneself and acting for the ones you care about.
Most heartwarming set of games. Kratos has loving friends, a good family, a future, and a goal to be the best man he can be. Dude went from rock bottom to the sky being the limit
I love how kratos and mimir are more like brothers talking to each other about their lives and sharing feelings rather than a god carrying a reanimated head
"show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and i'll show you someone who wonders why their lovers never end up being worth their time" beautiful and accurate. your love should be your best friend.
In an era where masculinity is vilified constantly by media, hats off to the team that made such a positive and wholesome lesson to be learned about what it means to be masculine but tempered, about compassion, love, friendship and loyalty and even parenthood
“Show me someone for whom friendship means lack of love, and I’ll show you someone who wonders why their lovers never end up being worth their time.” Wow.
It is incredibly wholesome and a little strange to see Kratos being the one questioning like Mimir does. I know he lost one friend in the game but I am glad he still has Mimir. And considering what he went through with Odin, I am glad Mimir has Kratos.
With how much everyone is trying to be better i still can't get over with just how Fucked over Sindri is right now. Their still just twisting that dagger with showing everyone else working towards a better tomorrow.
Just want to say, that I really enjoyed this DLC, they gave us so much more, much more stories to hear, uncover and understand but allow me to thank you as well for playing through this dlc and giving us the chance, well to some us, to further understand the stories. Cheers, Merry Christmas!
Kratos: Now **I** am mad at you. Considering the conversation topic, that's wholesome as all hell. Kratos has grown to value Mimir greatly, so hearing he thinks low of himself genuinely upsets Kratos
I absolutely love how they made a beautiful love story in this dlc by just the method of story telling most of the time...now we all can't wait for them to meet again in the next game...
Hope in the next game after the Atreus solo game we get a conclusion to this story. Mimir finds a way to restore his body and when Sigrun returns “whole” she will find him also whole again. Would be a very touching end to the story. Other way of doing this is that Mimir and Kratos die leaving an enraged Atreus and Sigrun.
One of the reasons why I liked Kratos from the very first game in 2005 was because, despite his anger, I always felt deep inside there was a human character with more to him than mere revenge and anger. In the original style games, from the trilogy, PSP games to Ascension, there were hints at that, but it kept being overshadowed by the anger and destruction and I initially was not a fan of God of War 3. When 2018 came out, I was kind of done with being a big fan of God of War, and while I thought 2018 was one of the best games of 2018, we already had a fantastic dad-and-child relationship story with TLoU that made 2018 less special, but I love that they've altered him into what I always pictured him as from the get-go. Ragnarok was my favorite game last year, although I didn't love the last hour or so.
Quite the character development we got here. From an Optional Boss in the previous game, to a compelling backstory and growing on us. The studio has quite a way with that.
24:22 Tyr, Kratos and Mimir giving a beautifull describtion of love and how once's own potential is found in the reflection of those we admire to be worthy of.
It’s still amazing to see Kratos continue to grow from the bloodthirsty savage he was in his younger days. Sometimes I still cant believe this is the same character that was 1st introduced to us on PS2. It it’s been great to see the evolution of the game itself going from a bloody acting game. That had as much gore as a game like Mortal Kombat. Where Kratos would show no mercy and throw away lives just to move to the next stage. It is now turned into a story of a remorseful man on the path to redemption still tormented by his past all while trying to raise his son and protect Astreus from his past mistakes. It is one of the most beautifully written sagas in gaming history. The story telling has just phenomenal in every recent installment. I know the ending will be just as grand.
Mimir eight hours later: “Dear God, man; those Valkyries are a *_FREAKY_* lot!” Kratos (now exhausted & possessing a swollen butthole after Freya pegged him all night): “I have noticed that.”
"So much of everything good that I am , is only due to my wanting to be the person she saw me as." The one of the most SINCERE lines Ive ever heard in a video game. This line BLEEDS love. Mimir really really cares about Sigrun.
It makes sense tho, better just take off all of your work gears in the HQ than taking off your helmet now and risk dropping it to the sea while carrying it
She and Mimir both strike me as the kinda people who are always doing something mildly goofy on purpose or by accident even when otherwise carrying themselves seriously. The helmet. The way they adapt to “oh you’re a disembodied head who has to be carried around with me like a lantern” thing. The fact that to get along with him back in his scoundrel days she had be able to at least appreciate goofy shit to some degree. Even if it was for a practical reason like making a new model or something keeping that thing on her face for this whole goodbye and not even realizing that’s a weird thing to do really works for me lol
I just love how this series went from kratos being just a simple badass monster to having a plethora of interesting, complex and genuine characters that all have so much developpment
What's great is that pieces of wisdom they share, about love, how it can change you, how you should treat the person you love and respect their choices, it doesn't sound like someone asked Google "wisdom about love". It all works and sounds earned, well thought-out.
Imagine if we get a game focused on Atreus where since both boi and Sigrun are out and about through the worlds that they reunite sometime in the game, the most unexpected but badass team up
Its honestly really hard to believe that they made a character such as mimir. How do you make someone such as him? So understanding so knowledgeable about not only the things in the game but alot of what he says you can take with you in this life as well. I would love to meet and talk to the person who made him like he is.
I love that this was because Mimir felt he couldn’t satisfy her since he’s just a head, and yet she took it as “I need to take this journey to find myself” like nah that’s def not what he meant
It's interesting that in 9:26 Mimir says that he was in a forest near Athens. Perhaps he and Kratos had crossed paths in the past and didn't really knew it.
There is an indirect connection. The incident Mimir is referencing is Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mimir is Puck. The Duke of Athens that is mentioned is Theseus, who Kratos kills in GoW 2. Notably Theseus is old by then, so it's likely that Kratos wasn't born when Mimir et al were hanging out in Greece.
This game is now my looping therapy sessions. It repeats the same dialogues and events each time I replay it, but it reminds me of the good I could be, even with the evils I try hard to contain. There has been multiple games for me but growing up playing God of War (yes, I played the game since I was 7. Not exactly something a 7 year old is allowed to do nor that I am proud of it but hey, here I am making a monologue for people to read), I can feel and understand the characters' struggle to better themselves in character, with all the bad they had and they could've been. I know I'm not someone who mercilessly slaughter innocent people in pursuit of vengeance, nor I am a scoundrel who toyed others because another scoundrels told me to, nor I am a skilled fighter who wanted my father's approval of all things, but I can see all that reflected in me; such as Atreus' yearning for a validation from Kratos, Kratos's attempt to leave the dark past behind and focus on the future, and Mimir's love and dedication to Sigrun that drives him to be better than he was, to the point that he's ready to let Sigrun go because he loves her so much. Sorry for the long text I wrote. Maybe I just wanted some place I could write all these down. No one else I know plays God of War and took the story as serious as I am. Whether you guys agree with me or not, I'm glad you guys took the time to read this mucho texto. Thanks everyone.
Your Journey when compare to the others, may seem inadequate as you and them have vastly different obstacles and landscapes to overcome but at the same time, you all share and strive to reach the same destination, the same goal. All journeys unique as they inherently individual by nature, but also by nature are they are equal for neither is lesser nor more important than the other. (I hope that made sense 😂) Anyhow, regarding you and your journey, there are only two things I can say: Good Job and keep going.
This game having straight up good lessons about life is damn amazing, and they fit the story perfectly, experiencing this ingame made me learn more about love too
I love how they tied mimir to king oberon and the events of a midsummer nights dream by shakespeare, all while putting their own spin on the story by making mimir the one who tricks titania (oberon's wife)
"If anyone else disparaged you as you disparage yourself, I would wish to strike them with an axe." Kratos has the weirdest way of showing that he cares about someone, but he is the kind of friend anyone would wish to have.
I really appreciate that they made a DLC with so much voice acting. It shows a true character and desire to continue the story. Not just make something people to play only to come back to the game and not develop the game
the fact that Puck from A Midsummer Night's Dream was actually Mimir is probably my favorite piece of lore to come out of the God of War universe...and that it's from such a touching side story to boot
Is surprising how Sigrun, despite being a superboss, has a surpsing amount of lore behind, knowing how most of the time, bonus and superbosses are not acknoweldged by the story
Since GoW4 i was hoping Mimir gets his body back, then we saw Haimdall get his arm back with bifrost and i thought maybe this would work for Mimir, but it never happened😢. This man needs a body and he deserves it !
Sigrun really went from an optional enemy who was annoyingly hard and wanted to take your life to someone who will save you and become a trustworthy comrade with a good story to tell
After having found love, I appreciate this game and these moments in it even more. She makes me want to be better, and I’m trying to be. I think I just need to give it time.

It's hilarious to se Kratos being embarrasingly quiet as a third wheel while these two lovers talk about their intimacies and future.
Also Kratos: Killing the Giant Freya revived was easier than this.

We need Sindri to get his head cleared again and make mirmir a body

I replayed the story after completing the Valhalla DLC (so I could go through again as Young Kratos), and man it just highlights how bullshit Odin’s version of Tyr is. The real Tyr is awesome
I sometimes forget that sigrun started out as a mere optional boss to a side quest. She had a few lines and that's it. But in ragnarök and valhalla she becomes such a deep and rich character i love it
I love how Mimir gives us an entire retelling of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" from his perspective
Also, with his regret for being so neglectful to his first wife, he really wanted to change, and he got it. This DLC was awesome
Mimir needs his body back man 😭
I thought he was gonna get a body in ragnorock because the two dwarfs were doing measurements on him in the first game

Except Sindri, poor guy
As a huge lifelong GoW fan, I was so pleasantly surprised to have this DLC and its lore harkening back to the old games
As someone who wrote my college thesis on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, hearing Mimir recall the entire story within his dialogue made this whole thing WAY too good to be true for me
I love when people realise this too!
It was one of my first professional productions, I had the pleasure of playing Bottom.
I love how this game takes secondary and optional characters from the first game and turns them into important characters
"If anyone else disparged you as you disparge yourself, I would wish to hit them with an axe."
Just goes to show how much Kratos values Mimir's company.
“I caused her to fall in love with something preposterous…an actor” 😂
The good version of the kind of character arc that media like the Mulan remake tried to make. Rather than concluding that she doesn't need anyone else and that everything she needs is within herself, Sigrun instead concludes that she DOES need other people - like Mimir - but that she also needs to know and rely on herself as well, that one needs a balance between acting for oneself and acting for the ones you care about.
Like in Game of Thrones with Arya and Gendry they should've been married but Arya left instead 😢
Most heartwarming set of games. Kratos has loving friends, a good family, a future, and a goal to be the best man he can be. Dude went from rock bottom to the sky being the limit
“Now I am mad at you”
Hearing that made me laugh. They’ve become so close now lol
Mimir is responsible for the events of Midsummer Night's Dream. That makes an astounding amount of sense
I’m so glad someone else saw that as well, I have a fairy that Atreus is going to be Merlin in his own solo game.

Kratos: " gods get a room "
It is incredibly wholesome and a little strange to see Kratos being the one questioning like Mimir does. I know he lost one friend in the game but I am glad he still has Mimir. And considering what he went through with Odin, I am glad Mimir has Kratos.
They have a such a beautiful bond the bestest of friends
The DLC is just a long needed therapy session not just for Kratos but for Mimir and Sigrun.
Stealing another comment I saw here: everyone needs Tyrapy.
With how much everyone is trying to be better i still can't get over with just how Fucked over Sindri is right now. Their still just twisting that dagger with showing everyone else working towards a better tomorrow.

Kratos: Now **I** am mad at you.
Considering the conversation topic, that's wholesome as all hell. Kratos has grown to value Mimir greatly, so hearing he thinks low of himself genuinely upsets Kratos
It's not goodbye...its until we meet again 😢😢😢
The lesson: the most difficult person to learn to love is oneself.
I absolutely love how they made a beautiful love story in this dlc by just the method of story telling most of the time...now we all can't wait for them to meet again in the next game...
This is by far the greatest DLC Ever .. Our boi Kratos has finally found inner peace.
It's been one hell of a Journey.

While I hate the idea of Kratos and Mimir dying, I would sell my soul to play a game with Sigrun as your companion
@@countlessofvoidsBe careful saying things like that, you may end up giving EA some ideas
And this is how we will found about new Mythologies that will need the hand of the Ghost of Sparta
21:50 Mimir out here spitting another fact.
24:49 and so does Kratos
Love your work, thank you for the hours you've spent putting all your videos together! ❤
Mimir: sorry my love i can't do any more, i have no body

The one of the most SINCERE lines Ive ever heard in a video game. This line BLEEDS love. Mimir really really cares about Sigrun.
Was hoping we'd get a Sigrun face reveal and she wouldn't say goodbye with her helmet on like a goof. But I guess it wasn't to be, oh well.
It makes sense tho, better just take off all of your work gears in the HQ than taking off your helmet now and risk dropping it to the sea while carrying it
I'm not entirely sure Sigrun even could take her helmet off, as a Valkyrie.
“I caused her to fall in love with something preposterous”
“An actor”

I just love how this series went from kratos being just a simple badass monster to having a plethora of interesting, complex and genuine characters that all have so much developpment

“Now *I* am mad at you”
Best line of the video😂 spoken like a real brother
Kratos out of all people in this good Earth being "interested" in Mimir's romantic life is the biggest character development in the history of gaming.
(I hope that made sense 😂)
Anyhow, regarding you and your journey, there are only two things I can say:
Good Job and keep going.
