This is how far regular cars have come....that a Kia soul is faster in a drag race than a 16 year old Porsche boxster.

One of these Souls took me by surprise, on my stock 320,000 mile prelude. I still beat him but it was close.
Proud owner of a 2014 Kia Soul base model with manual six speed. If I ever wear this car out I know I'll be buying another one. I can't see having any other car. For me it's the best Ballance on the market between cargo, fuel efficiency, fun to drive, quick and nimble, small and easy to park, capable of hauling even as much as a motorcycle and trailer, high safety rating, unbelievable reliability, and last but not least affordability. Don't be fooled into thinking you have to spend 27k to have this car and enjoy like I do.Mine is the base model with absolutely none of the bells and whistles they charge extra for and it's still a great car. All in, had I bought it new I would have spent about $16k. Way less than similar (and inferior in my opinion) cars of other brands. Please make more videos with the Soul!

Jkrui No it wouldn't. No human can outshift a twin clutch.
Nobody can outshift a computer. Its not possible. Computers are smarter than us too. They know which gear better than you do. Take a look at acceleration times on real cars (ie, not econoboxes). Dual clutches are quicker than manuals. Hell, in this day and age planetary automatics will cook most manuals in a drag race unless the cars motor has no torque to work with or its poorly programmed.

That was a fun little test. They didn't seem to be pushing too hard but the Kia did apparently heat it's brakes. So I don't know.

So I want to know why did he use the torque converter I might be saying it wrong but using the semi auto mode would have gave that turbo way more push and kick off the line when accelerating
I really wanted a Soul turbo. couldn’t find one. So I traded my 250hp (stage 1) Pt turbo vert for a 2.0 Brownstone Edition. Not as fast, but lots of extras that make it worth it. I wonder if there we be a Diablo for the Soul.

Just this sat I dusted a trans am in my Kia Soul 2L
Had three cars by 60mph just hitting third gear at 6.5k rpm!!!
First gear is about a tooth too low, but you get em wound up and it takes off like a sling shot in 2nd and .3rd if you keep it spinning over 5k.
Shift out of 4th around 85mph and you're on 95mph as soon as 5th hits.
Yet to go 100mph but she'll run the back roads at 95mph no problem!!
Can't wait for a turbo Soul!!!

Base Boxsters are slow unless you rev them out/dump the clutch at launch. I was caught off guard one day in my base 2014 981 manual Boxster (265 hp) when a regular focus took off at a light. The Focus gave me an awful lot of trouble, I still beat it, but not for a while! Porsche claims 5.5 sec for that MY, but I bet if you start normally (less than 2k RPM), I bet it's more like 7.5-8.0 seconds (the gearing is so tall which doesn't help).
Nice head to head, thumb up! Although I was born in Stuttgart, even in the same hood where Porsches are made, and although I grew up 4 miles from the AMG factory: As of today, I'd get a KIA Soul - EV! :-) It's one of the best -low- medium budget alternatives to Tesla concerning range and lifestyle one can get over here in Europe.
So what is the plan for the Boxster now that the Baja Buggy was ruled out? Is it just going to be a "Fun video" car until the IMS bearing (Or something else) takes it out?

You have to put the car on manual and shift then on turns down shift to speed up and grip and then automatic on straightaway and press turbo. The car can really handle on corners with the over size rims and tires. Keeps u pretty stable but I believe one driver on the course for both cars u will see a significant difference in times.
So the Porsche is considerably lighter (left start early too looks like) and only pulled 1sec faster than a 4cyl Kia Soul! Wtf? I'm starting to like Kia and the new Stinger is fairly impressive as well.
I hadn't noticed the poles close by the edges of the track.

id like to see more newer cars race older cars like the soul and other cars take on like older flagship models like the ls400 or acura legend
The Boxster was 1 second ahead of the Soul. Remove the cargo tray, cover, etc. and the 500 page owners manual and lighten it. And warm up the tires. Bet it can match that Porsche.
It's too bad the track management won't let the general public drive on this course... I've called a few times because I'd really like to see what kind of times my XC60 T6 AWD could put down. I was never a racing driver but I was a certified driving instructor for a performance oriented school run by a former Bondurant instructor.

tbh i got a kia soul 2018 plus (1 million edition, should look it up looks hella nice) and i'm kinda shocked at the performance. Use sport-mode or switch to 'manual' and you have yourself pretty amazing acceleration with that turbo. I scare my fiance and will randomly accelerate (straight-up floor it) and it's hilarious. Fun little car for sure, it's lack of weight really helps it's speed. Kia soul plus's might be a decent tuning car, see how far you can go with it.
You don't have the turbo that the exclaim trim has.
The Kia Soul spoils its driver with an easy entry seating position, massive headroom, great viewing position, features of a much more expensive car, and easy to operate comfort. Most who get used to driving these little utility vehicles find it hard to accept anything less.

So... what are you guys gonna do with it? I have the same car-102k on mine, 1999, blue-but with all grey interior. I think yours has new seat covers, frankly...most everything works, but bad clearcoat. Unknown IMS bearing, but be sure to check out Pedro's fix here on TH-cam. As a mechanic, his explanation and solution make by far the most sense. The thing is, you can't wait until it fails to do it...I'm sure you know that!.

Any newer Porsche is embarrassing. Porsche nowadays is crap. All the good Porsche were made 1989 or older.
Neuroguitarist it shouldn't be like that though. When you spend 60-70 grand on a car like that (when new) it should be able to hold some performance value. If you compared a 99' Vette to it would have no problem. That's the thing I don't like about Porsche, they try to make a base model appealing, even though they only run 6 second 0-60s. You have to reach way into your pocket to get any power or speed from them. Compared to GM, which I know has lower quality (interior, etc.) but I can buy a brand new Camaro SS for 37k that does 0-60 in 4.0. Even a brand new Corvette for 55k that does it in 3.7.

If the Soul is anything like my wife's 2014 Veloster R-Spec, since they share the same motor, the tires totally suck that come on it. I would hedge a bet that her Veloster is about as fast if not faster than the Soul as it is about 400 lbs lighter, but has a 6-speed manual vs. the dual clutch. It would be fun to find out huh? Maybe a mash-up?
freezor80 soul is not performance car. Veloster is. That's why it's incredibly that the soul can keep up with that "sports car" porsche.

The Porsche is still a Porsche.
The Porsche had 201 hp when new but what is it producing now, somewhat less I would guess. In this classic mismatch of apples and oranges the real winner is determined by which you would prefer to drive.
I would rather drive the Kia Soul. That Porsche is ugly, terrible handling for a small car and is slow.

This competition was not done right. The Soul is 3232 lbs and the Porsche is 2822 lbs. The drivers are different weights too. The son looks to be about 1/2 the weight of his father. So I'd say maybe 50ish lbs difference and the vehicle was 410 lbs different. 460 lbs difference. They should have put some weight in the Porsche to even it up. Fun to watch though. I am thinking of buying one actually. I am almost tempted to put a turbo on my 2012 Soul. I'd kick both ya pants! LOL
I'm sure someone has a tune you can slap onto that Soul for more power.

If this old 1980 Motor Trend magazine test I found is accurate (14.6 for the Countach) any of the modern V6 mid size sedans would give it a run for the money in a 1/4 mile. My middle school self remembers the Lambo poster I had on the wall back then and cries inside. Such is progress.

I've got a kia soul 2018 ! Turbo. The race track and the driver is really what determines the best racer. This car hauls ass, great on gas, kinda crappy that kia can't provide the correct part numbers and most parts are specialty buttttt.. literally best car ever. Best car I've ever driven. I've had 2 of the specialty base(s) of the soul. It really depends on who's driving that soul on the track. You'd be surprised at how that car handles curves and turns (ex: LIVING IN OHIO) it's an amazing car and can be built further for performance and efficiency. The only things that suck about these cars? The carpet quality 😂 that's about it!

Michael Anderson You would be surprised with the power to weight advantage, as well as the reduced weight from the manual gearbox. My offer to go up against the boxster still stands.
Are you forgetting the part where a 2012 Soul only made 160bhp in the higher trims? It's significantly less than even the weakest Boxsters
And the 2012 6MT has shorter gear ratio and weighs less. Horsepower doesn't mean everything.
