Not sure if you were ever able to figure out the steering wheel having reversed controls but I was able to fix mine. 1. Settings 2. Install set 3. 8861 4. Prev/Next (set to positive) 5. Save and Reboot
What i like most about this head unit was how it plugs into your ODB2 port and shows your speed and RPMs in real-time and all the things it allows you to change about your truck that you couldn't do digitally before like turning your functions on and off, now on a touchscreen instead of the analog method. It has really modernized an older truck. I also like how much better it makes the factory speakers sound. I don't know if it is the higher wattage or what but it makes them sound great!

I purchased this unit and used for a week and now its in boot loop start up and its very difficult getting tech support from them.they are now sending a new core board as Im unable to get the unit into recovery mode.I wish they would have perfected the software before selling to the public as this is quite expensive for the amount of problems that are happening.On a positive note it looks amazing in the dash lol.
aircon resetting intermittently and insufficient memory for what this costs is a hard no from me. kept my eye out for this 6mo review since i first seen about it earlier this year, much appreciate the overview. hopefully the new model actually works as intended. i think something like this for the cost shouldn't just be 'okay' like some third rate universal deck from circuit city. tldr; sounds like it sucks and the new model better not, really want this to work out to be a viable purchase in the future.
Your review sounds a lot more harsh than what i think he said about it, just my opinion. I have this unit and i think the issue with the air conditioning changing to default has to do with the bluetooth connection being reset which is why it seemed to happen to him while he was away from it, the bluetooth goes out of range. I am no expert but this seems like a pretty mild thing that is resolved with 1 touch of a button. I do hope they release a firmware update to address this.
ya, I mean the quality of sound is what i'm looking at mostly but with these new units taking over your het and a/c control, That has to work properly first. If not that is very irritating. The key here is he doesn't daily drive this vehicle and even then he wants to upgrade. If he was daily driving this it would be seriously annoying.
Very true. I haven’t put it together yet but I’m about to do a video on the newest generation of this head unit. I can report that the AC problem has been fixed on the new unit.

I've been looking into purchasing this head unit from AuCar but wanted to know the specs of the unit you tested vs. what's for sale on their website currently (as of 9/16/22). In other words, is the upgraded unit for sale yet or do I need to hang tight for the improved software/memory etc.?

Hey thanks for the review. I bought the Aucar unit after seeing your first video and have experienced similar problems. My truck is my daily driver and most days, the unit works well. Some days, i cannot get the apple car play to connect, even after checking the bluetooth connection on my phone. My biggest complaint is the lack of customer support and the really crappy microphone they sent with the head unit. The installer had to place the mic behind my steering wheel on the steering column and the sound quality is terrible...basically unusable. I was wondering what you did with your mic? I use my phone a lot while driving so this is a real problem. The other day on my way to work I was using Apple car play and it would disconnect randomly after playing for about 20-30 seconds. I would tap on the bluetooth device and it would come back on, then go off again...did it all the way there. Next time i got in my truck, it worked perfectly. Overall, I wish i would have gone with a more traditional head unit from a local shop. While the back up camera is amazing and I love the large screen, I'm with you...too much money to have to deal with all the glitches and the poor customer service.
I couldn’t tell you where the mic is on mine but I didn’t install one. It is hard for my wife to hear me when I am talking on the phone with her though. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you man. Hopefully the next one lives up to the potential.
I installed my microphone in the top of the coin holder (some people call it the change dish) and people tell me it sounds good in hands free mode, never had an issue with sound.

Have you already figured out how to change the settings for the steering wheel controls ? And also do you have problems with your truck reverse and backup camera staying on when you shift to drive?
Mine is the Android 11 and the 8/128 option. It’s the most expensive one - I have a code: EVIDENT which will take $50 off it. The android 9 one I covered in previous videos and had some problems with that one. This one isn’t perfect but much better then the last one and overall I have been pretty happy with it.

No they actually told me they are sending me out the new unit before I told them about my problems. No there isn’t really a fix for the issues I have. They have asked me to try and capture it happening on video which I haven’t been able to do yet. But I think the new model is a response to these kinds of problems. I don’t think I’m the only one experiencing these issuesz
@@alpinetactics I see. I'm wondering if plugging in your cell directly to the unit (instead of using Bluetooth) would solve some of the music hiccups? I actually have an older Tacoma that doesn't have bluetooth or even a usb for charge and play so I don't know anything about these music apps or car play. All I would really like to do is plug in my phone via usb and listen to music whilst it charges xD that would be like a dream! I actually didn't notice if this unit has a usb for this function or not. I didn't notice you installing anything like that in you glove compartment but I'm guessing that's because you have a newer tacoma that already comes stock with usb.

So the sunglasses that I am wearing in this video are polarized and if I tilt my head towards the screen just a little bit I can see the screen fine. But I have another pair of polarized glasses and I can’t see it at all through them. Very strange.

Yep I live in pretty much the best climate on earth. It can get pretty cold in the Sierra during winter. Owens Valley and the surrounding area do not share the same climate as LA lol.

Oh that sucks this unit doesn't have usb capability. I was under the impression it had both bluetooth and usb to connect your phone for music and charging. Serious bummer
@@Mactrizel I saw another vid where they installed usb cables into the glove box so I just assumed you could plug, play, and charge your phone that way. Guess not, too bad because I think it could solve the music skipping issues AlpineTactics is having with it connected via bluetooth
So many glitches in this unit... Android is not wireless, has to be connected to USB, did not specify on website. When you wear sunglasses, you have to tilt head toward center console to see screen. Bad microphone for calls. A/C blower lowers when making a call, strange, unnecessary glitch. Volume button is lagging. Time keeps changing back an hour on it's own. Need to disconnect wire from Android auto to listen to Bluetooth on apps. Steering wheel back and forward button reverse their function each time i turn radio on. A/C isn't as cold as when connected to factory panel. JBL connection sounds nowhere near as good as factory. This is just what comes to mind at the moment. Almost nonexistent instructions and customer support. Short drives consist of struggling with unit and frustration. I bought this based on glowing TH-cam review. They should have worked out all the glitches before putting on market for sale. Now I feel I wasted almost $900 on fancy looking junk. Have reached out to Aucar to ask about factory updates or refund, haven't heard back. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced these same problems, maybe I received a bad unit?
A lot of people had similar complaints and I agree, they should have taken their time and fixed all the bugs. I have the new one now and a lot of these problems have been addressed. Still testing it out though
Product is garbage, you must get paid for this review. GPS doesn't even work, start up is slow and picks random apps and boots it up. Screen turns green and unit is only 3 months old. While using app, unit shuts down app

Wondering if you even watched the video because the majority of the video is me talking about the problems I have had with it, which are not even remotely as bad as what you are describing. But I can’t speak to your experience, just mine.

This thing is junk ! Don’t buy ! Listen to his video he even warns of all the issues but tries to do so lightly as to not ruin his deal with the company . Remember he got it for free and still has this many bad things to say about it . Crashes all the time . Ac goes high randomly. Volume is half of factory . This should be a “wish “ product !
You can change the audio level setting in user settings of the unit. I had to increase mine as well but it matches factory if set correctly. I have heard a variety of experiences from users on this unit. I gave an honest review of my personal experience which has progressively gotten worse over time and have updated my audience with this thing time and time again throughout my entire duration of ownership on videos outside of these videos as well but I am assuming you haven’t seen those yet. Personally I really wanted this thing to work and hope the next version is better because it’s exactly what I am looking for in a head unit if it weren’t for the issues that I have had and disclosed. I think if you follow along on the videos I put out you will see i am doing the best I can to give my real world feedback on products I use. Thanks Shaun.

Yeah this is the old model. The newer one that I made a video about solved those problems
I've had the same issues with my AUcar head unit in my 2014 Taco.
for the reverse volume button on the stirring wheel they said to update the OS that will take care of the problem.

I have the New unit the olny problem I have is the A/C does not work. Heater stays on all the time. my truck is 07 tacoma Xrtunner.

One the first version, everything worked great but phone calls where not very good. On the new one phone calls are much better.

The forward and back on the song is an easy fix. Let me know if you haven't figured it out and I'll take a look at my unit so y can let you know what to do.

Oh that sucks this unit doesn't have usb capability. I was under the impression it had both bluetooth and usb to connect your phone for music and charging. Serious bummer

@@Mactrizel I saw another vid where they installed usb cables into the glove box so I just assumed you could plug, play, and charge your phone that way. Guess not, too bad because I think it could solve the music skipping issues AlpineTactics is having with it connected via bluetooth

Sounds like a lack of processing power
So many glitches in this unit...
Android is not wireless, has to be connected to USB, did not specify on website.
When you wear sunglasses, you have to tilt head toward center console to see screen.
Bad microphone for calls.
A/C blower lowers when making a call, strange, unnecessary glitch.
Volume button is lagging.
Time keeps changing back an hour on it's own.
Need to disconnect wire from Android auto to listen to Bluetooth on apps.
Steering wheel back and forward button reverse their function each time i turn radio on.
A/C isn't as cold as when connected to factory panel.
JBL connection sounds nowhere near as good as factory.
This is just what comes to mind at the moment.
Almost nonexistent instructions and customer support. Short drives consist of struggling with unit and frustration.
I bought this based on glowing TH-cam review.
They should have worked out all the glitches
before putting on market for sale. Now I feel I wasted almost $900 on fancy looking junk. Have reached out to Aucar to ask about factory updates or refund, haven't heard back.
Please let me know if anyone else has experienced these same problems, maybe I received a bad unit?
A lot of people had similar complaints and I agree, they should have taken their time and fixed all the bugs. I have the new one now and a lot of these problems have been addressed. Still testing it out though

Product is garbage, you must get paid for this review. GPS doesn't even work, start up is slow and picks random apps and boots it up. Screen turns green and unit is only 3 months old. While using app, unit shuts down app
I did not get paid to do this review. I gave my honest feedback on my experience with the unit. Wondering if you even watched the video because the majority of the video is me talking about the problems I have had with it, which are not even remotely as bad as what you are describing. But I can’t speak to your experience, just mine.
@@alpinetactics Agreed, it sounds like this guy has a broken one or he broke it during installation and is venting. This unit is pretty awesome in my opinion.
This thing is junk ! Don’t buy ! Listen to his video he even warns of all the issues but tries to do so lightly as to not ruin his deal with the company . Remember he got it for free and still has this many bad things to say about it . Crashes all the time . Ac goes high randomly. Volume is half of factory . This should be a “wish “ product !
You can change the audio level setting in user settings of the unit. I had to increase mine as well but it matches factory if set correctly. I have heard a variety of experiences from users on this unit. I gave an honest review of my personal experience which has progressively gotten worse over time and have updated my audience with this thing time and time again throughout my entire duration of ownership on videos outside of these videos as well but I am assuming you haven’t seen those yet. Personally I really wanted this thing to work and hope the next version is better because it’s exactly what I am looking for in a head unit if it weren’t for the issues that I have had and disclosed. I think if you follow along on the videos I put out you will see i am doing the best I can to give my real world feedback on products I use. Thanks Shaun.
