Mr. Freeze was a better man than most before the tragedies that befell his life. He represents a mind too dangerous to endure the trauma and heartache he had. Say what you want, but many of us would be more bitter than he under those circumstances.
I felt like Mr. Freeze is the most redeemable Batman Villian. I used to watch this 20 times in one winter when I was eight years old. Batman Christmas specials and movies are classics. I am a huge comic book fan so this is special.
In my heart I can never see Mr Freeze as a true villain, instead, I see him as a tortured victim. He is nothing more than a desperate husband, a scientist who simply wanted nothing but to feel the warm embrace of his beloved wife Nora without watching her die. He is nothing if not a poetic character and deep down I will always empathise with him. I will always be grateful for Bruce Timm, Paul Dini and the entire Batman: The Animated Series (1992) crew for redefining Mr Freeze from a goofy C-lister to a complex, tragic character. I truly hope we see this fantastic character in a live-action reboot one day. Sympathetic, complex villains like Mr Freeze, Xu Wenwu, Zuko, Magneto etc... are always a pleasure to see. This is such an underrated animated film. Btw I really love Barbara and Dicks relationship, both here and in the comics as well. I actually prefer this ship over Starfire and Dick (although those two are still great)

The ending becomes so bittersweet if you remember / when you find out what happens to Freeze afterwards in “The New Batman Adventures” and “Batman Beyond”… Damn smh
@@donflamingo5685 In “The New Batman Adventures”, Freeze ends up getting reduced to a head on robotic spider legs underneath the armor because his hypothermic condition caused his physical body to degrade and fall apart over time. On top of that when he returns in that show, we also find out that Nora ended up getting with the doctor who saved her and didn’t go back to Freeze after she was saved because he couldn’t bring himself to return to her in spite of all he had done. In “Batman Beyond”, Freeze is still around over 40+ years in the future because he was preserved as a head in storage at Wayne-Powers. He was brought back via getting his mind transferred into a cloned version of his original body under the orders of Wayne-Powers CEO Derek Powers/Blight (Terry’s archenemy who ordered the death of Terry’s father). Victor took his second chance at life as a chance to try and redeem himself for his past actions-like setting up a foundation to help victims he had hurt in the past. Victor was even willing to not fight back against (and even let go afterwards) an assassin who tried to kill him out of revenge for Freeze hurting or killing someone in the guy’s family in the past. Victor’s cloned body was soon beginning to have the same problems as what happened to his original one and was taken back to Wayne-Powers and put in his cold cubicle. Derek Powers ordered the experiment that revived Freeze to be terminated so that they could perform a biopsy once he died to find out what went wrong. Mister Freeze then donned an upgraded suit of armor that he had kept in storage and tried to take revenge on Powers and the doctor who worked on him while planning to take himself out along with the medical facility itself. During a brief battle with Batman Beyond, the fight is interrupted by Derek Powers (whom Terry did not yet know was Blight) in his Blight form, who attacked and badly injured Freeze. Victor then attacks Blight to keep him from killing Terry and saves the young Batman’s life. Terry tried to save Freeze from the self-destructing facility, only for Freeze to put an ice wall between them and saying Batman (Terry) was the only one who cared about him. Mister Freeze delayed the destruction long enough for Terry to escape but stayed behind to let himself die when the place exploded.
God that ending made me shed a tear. Mr.Freeze is my absolute favourite Batman villain, he’s just such a well written character and very tragic and sympathetic. The man loved his wife so much and he only wants to save her. That’s what I also like about this version of Batman because instead of just beating up some of the villains he appeals their humanity and genuinely wants to help them. There’s a line from Batman and Robin that proves and shows this, where Batman says to Freeze: “Vengeance isn’t power, anyone can take a life. But to give life, that’s true power, a power you once had. So I’m asking you, Victor Fries, help me save another life and maybe you can also save the life of the man your wife once loved. He’s still inside you Victor, buried, deep, beneath the snow. Will you help me, Doctor?”
Now we just need Mystery of the Batwoman and Return of the Joker and she’ll have watched all of the O.G. Bruce Timm movies. Who else thinks she should react to at least the first two episodes of Batman Beyond?? Forgot how much I love this movie.
the film is a sequel to an episode of Batman where Mr Freeze was taken to a place called Oceania where Mr Freeze was hired to help Grant Walker with his scheme and if Mr Freeze complied than his wife be cured right away.
It's called Hard Swing (music). There are a few swing orchestras about in the U.S. and England and yes, people dance. That particular wild and gymnastic style of dancing was also practiced by the kids when Rock and Roll came about, so old school r'n'r is also alive in the West and all over the world. So yes, there are places to go and swing dance.
11:18 If it makes you feel any better, they do kiss in the comic. 🥰 Though, in the comic Barbara's dress is green, and I personally like the blue one a lot more.
The ending to this film is so tragic and yet so heart-warming, seeing Freeze in tears of joy to know that his wife will live and is happy, he's not even depressed to know he may never see her again, but just happy to see her live, even after losing his humanity, and his leg. He truly loves her and it is such a beautiful and poetic end to his journey (until Batman The Animated Series, Season 4 unfortunately neglected his character arc). I truly wish that we do see a new live-action depiction of Mr Freeze, perhaps for a sequel for The Batman (2022). I personally think Michael Fassbender could be an amazing Mr Freeze.
You know what would have made this movie perfection? If the opening credits gave us the story of Victor and Nora before what happened to them. A montage, of when he use to be still human, working at the company where he became a scientist, but despite all his hard work and intellect, he is unappreciated and undervalued. That's until he met Nora who happened to work at the company, in which the two slowly get to know each other, especially during one date in which Nora takes Victor ice skating, in which the two become more romantic (also, have their skating be similar to how Victor's snow globe/music box of her was like). And through all this we get their relationship, with the music giving sort of Edward Scissorhands vibes, and one final scene in which the two are at a beach, in which Victor proposes to Nora and she accepts (This also symbolizes what Victor to Batman: "To never again walk on a summer's day with the hot wind in your face and a warm hand to hold. Oh yes, I'd kill for that!"). And this all plays during the opening credits, no dialogue, like a short film, until we cut to present day, where the submarine occurs.
I like the idea, but honestly everything that was necessary to understand about Mr. Freeze was shown in Heart of ice and this movie is in the same canon
It doesn't go well for Freeze after this in this continuity, his wife married the Doctor that cured her and left Gotham, all while Victors body is degrading and now only his head remains, all this trauma returns him into being a villain again. In the future, he is temporarily cured using a clone body and tries to make amends, but the scientists what to experiment on him, wanting revenge again. In the end of their final fight before a bomb goes off, Batman tries to save him but refuses, putting an ice wall between them but acknowledges Batman as the only person who cared for him. Freeze then soon met his end.
She did still love him. And wrote to him while he was in prison. He wrote back but her husband did want her to see the letters. The husband later tried to frame freeze so Nora would leave Victor. Freeze ended up breaking out of Prison and going back to the Antarctic, Nora went looking for him. They didn’t finish the story and the comic was discontinued.
Honestly your reaction to babs matched mine when I first saw the movie too, she looked abdolutely gorgeous especially with her red curls and the animation style really suited her as well ♡♡♡
Your reaction was great. One of my favorites as far as your DC/Batman content. This movie was a great one. The story, the art, the animation, the score, all of it. One of the best Batman animated movies imo.
I mean, she CAN go into the water, but at that height, it's like falling on a concrete sidewalk. The surface of the water is tougher than most liquids. That why bellyflops sound so painful at the pool XD
We’re out there just haven’t met the right girl yet. But Mr Freeze is just a broken person trying to fix himself in all the wrong ways! But I GET it, go John Wick on these MFS
We did see Mr. Freeze 2 more times in the DC Animated Universe. An episode of The New Batman Adventures (aka season 4 of Batman the Animated Series) and an episode of Batman Beyond that closed him out in the DCAU
Somehow a gag series like Harley Quinn has my favourite culmination of the Victor/Nora relationship. I unironically love Harley Quinn version of Nora. The man she loved gave his own life to save hers, she went down a spiral but she's getting to a place where she is like okay, I am alive and I will live my life.
Mr freeze is an excellent example of what love will make us do. He wanted to save his wife so badly he hurt people to find a way. It's too bad he never asked Bruce to help him find a cure much faster. But I understand why he didnt knowing about his accident. But their would have been some good people wanting to help him to save more lives if they actually did find a cure. A treatment programme could have been made to help more people with Nora's conditions. Again freeze is just amazing at how even though he fight batman when it comes to doing the right thing. I guess it shows theirs still warmth in his heart.
4:22- Yep, I'd be a villain for Nora too. Eff them folks. 8:50- Aye, The Flying Grayson...before the crowbar. 8:55- Aye it's Batgirl, before the bullet.
This movie is part of the batman animated series and was later confirmed to be cannon. If you have never seen the series I recommend watching the old shows you will learn so much about other heroes and villains
Hey Krista, I love your videos , commentary, and enthusiasm. I hope you watch all the older DC animated movies like Return of the Joker, the Batman/Superman movie, etc. you’ve become one my favorite youtubers. Keep going and don’t give up 🖤
this was the last time we see Mr, freeze as a human. cause after this movie Mr, freeze comes back as just a head in a jar with robotic spider legs. he has lost his humanity after his wife left him because of what he has become.
I love mr freeze other then joker he gotta b my other favorite Batman villain but I don’t even consider him a villain he a victim all he wanted was to save his wife and find a cure he so misunderstood half the time he’s always working with Batman more then fighting against em
This is certainly an underrated movie, I agree, but if you want to see something REALLY spectacular, I suggest you check out 'Batman: Mask of the Phantasm', the film this is a follow-up to. 'Sub-Zero' is much more of a Batgirl/Robin film than a Batman one; in 'Phantasm', though, it's all-Batman, baby, and it's terrific - some have called it the greatest Batman movie ever made. Certainly, it's well-worth a watch.
Mr. Freeze was a better man than most before the tragedies that befell his life. He represents a mind too dangerous to endure the trauma and heartache he had. Say what you want, but many of us would be more bitter than he under those circumstances.

He should probably be considered more of an anti-hero.
Hes more of an anti villain
This is also why I liked Doctor octavius from Spiderman 2. I like morally grey characters who happened to be victims of circumstances.

I remember this as a kid. Jesus, mr. Freeze and Nora deserved so much better. Why can’t he ever get a happy ending, DC?
We’re out there just haven’t met the right girl yet. But Mr Freeze is just a broken person trying to fix himself in all the wrong ways! But I GET it, go John Wick on these MFS
Fun fact: This movie advertised as a trailer for the Space Jam (1996) Previews on Vhs.
Good Times.😆
BTAS Heart of ice is a must watch after this. The emotional roller coaster continues. Blessings sis
Whoever edits your videos cracks me up every time
Good one, you need to see "Batman Beyond return of the joker"
We did see Mr. Freeze 2 more times in the DC Animated Universe. An episode of The New Batman Adventures (aka season 4 of Batman the Animated Series) and an episode of Batman Beyond that closed him out in the DCAU
Total badass! 15:10 Robin
There is a continuation of this story in an episode of Batman Beyond.
Analog Detective Work at its finest
I get it, Barbra was my first comic crush when I was a kid
"Did what he had to do."
Killed this men in blind vengeance over an accident. Yup, really for the greater good there, sweetheart XD
I would definitely recommend Batman the animated series
It’s amazing and such good characters
Great video, Krysta! Once again, you prove how great you are! Keep it up!
This movie is a great one
4:22- Yep, I'd be a villain for Nora too. Eff them folks. 8:50- Aye, The Flying Grayson...before the crowbar. 8:55- Aye it's Batgirl, before the bullet.
Pual Dini and Bruce Timm is who you need to thank for this revamped Mr. Freeze
It's about time. I was hoping you'd do this after phantasm. Very underrated film.
27:32- That's my boy. I'm happy for you. All your actions were justified, to me. For Nora.
You know joker was pressed to be a criminal to help his family
It is one of the origins of joker. There are literally many versiobs of joker origins. But, this origin was considered best.
As a blue-eyed man, I will admit to swelling with pride at your remark.
I never realized Dick Grayson really do like his red heads.😆
Freeze pulled up to the party with the bears, that's kinda gangster.😎
hope you had a great new year beautiful
There is a sequel to this, done as a 2 part episode of Batman Beyond.
The cheering for someone dying tho 🤣
Idk how many "ohs" and "ayos" I heard Krysta say during these 30 minutes🤣
I had an English teacher whose first name was Myron.
Omg she’s on a classic movie
This movie is part of the batman animated series and was later confirmed to be cannon. If you have never seen the series I recommend watching the old shows you will learn so much about other heroes and villains
Hey Krista, I love your videos , commentary, and enthusiasm. I hope you watch all the older DC animated movies like Return of the Joker, the Batman/Superman movie, etc. you’ve become one my favorite youtubers. Keep going and don’t give up 🖤
BEADY EYES ! BEADY !!! 16:57
this was the last time we see Mr, freeze as a human. cause after this movie Mr, freeze comes back as just a head in a jar with robotic spider legs. he has lost his humanity after his wife left him because of what he has become.
I love how much Krysta vibes with Freeze lol
Watch the Batman beyond Mr Freeze episode for the conclusion of his character.
Krysta ass bipolar this video “noooo freeeze” “noooooo bat familyyyyyyyy”
woof, he survived
Definitely an underrated classic 💯
You gotta see Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker and Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman
Next time u should watch Batman Returns also fits in with the winter vibes as well
11:22
Yeah,
I think Barbara will be the one who will give too much in the movie "The killing joke"
"dick this is embarrassing" .......
Krys it's a POLAR bear🤣😂🤣
get you someone who behaves the same way Krysta does when sees Dick Grayson
Batman: Killing joke
the editor likes to throw a lot of shade when it comes to batman from time to time . kind of reminds me of PG in his way out gameplay with berleezy .
One of my favourites
I love mr freeze other then joker he gotta b my other favorite Batman villain but I don’t even consider him a villain he a victim all he wanted was to save his wife and find a cure he so misunderstood half the time he’s always working with Batman more then fighting against em
Love the video Krystal stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
When a woman tries to one-up me physically I'll be like. 15:37
I saw you wearing a cherry sweater and thought you were Mary Cherry for a split second
One great movie. Much ❤ as always
