Fun little tidbits of trivia : The second verse (We met where the cliff greets the sea / Shared a story took the leap / Rose up rooted hid a note / You know where, you've been there / Now there's one who came from me / A child of light another tale) directly references Floor and her husband Hannes (Drummer for the Swedish band Sabaton) , her moving to Sweden with him as well as the birth of their daughter Freja. This was confirmed by the band and was basically a gift to Floor by Tuomas. They also said in pre-release Q&As that Tuomas purposefully composed each song to challenge them which is why the vocals are very intricate on every song from the new album. Floor admitted to pausing at times and go "How am I going to sing that?" but she nailed it all eventually, of course.

I've had the pleasure of hearing her perform live twice, the first time with Nightwish and the second time solo. I have never heard a more powerfull voice. She's incredible! This in combination with her stage presence and personality makes her the best and most versatile singer I've ever known.
The solo show was amazing indeed! Saw her in Tilburg in January this year. Wouldn't have missed it for the world! Hoping we can go to the fall concerts (November)..
It is just astonishing how many perfect diamonds are associated with Nightwish. It begins with the musicians; the creators themselves - each a master of their chosen craft and a genius in their own right. Troy is just astonishing in his understanding of music and his capability to play any instrument, including a few that I challenge people to find others who can play them, especially in a "symphonic metal" band. Tuomas is the hub, the maestro who composes the most brilliant and moving music in my life. Sure, there are other songs by other composers that reach into my chest and massage my heart back to life when times are tough, or gently touch it to remind me that I'm still alive and can feel, but somehow Tuomas can do that while making me a better person. A flawless diamond of music and I'm only sad that he has to suffer pain to educate me. Floor is just the Hope Diamond of music. I first fell in love with her in After Forever, don't even remember how I found them ... but I did gratefully. Marko is another gorgeous soul who never fails to make you feel, make you want to just give him a hug and thank him for being that gorgeous soul. Not only him, but Tuomas is a classically trained musician with a deep bond to folk music as well. He always writes at least one folky song per album. His and Troy's other band, Auri is also fantastic, hard to describe though. Sort of modern Celtic folk-pop with classical influence, and Tuomas' wife is the singer in Auri.
I've stated this on other people's reactions as well... but seriously, how lucky are all of us that Tuomas and Floor found each other? 7 billion people wandering around, and these two found each other! How lucky are we?
It's seems so easy for her, everything that she sings! But we know that it's not the case! She has a unbelievable voice and control! I just love her! ❤️
Very nice how you go to whole screen sections for the main commentary...and you mention the great lyrics, that are sadly give so little attention by almost all reactors. They are deserving of much more scrutiny, since they elevate the song noticeably when payed attention to. I have heard the lyrics described as word painting, works for me! What a beautiful melody line. harmony
Loved your reaction Christi! You now need to hear the lyric video of Nightwish to understand the whole picture. It is a pleasure to see your beautiful smile and heart felt reactions and as always to hear your deeply insightful comments and analysis of Floor's vocal abilities and technique. Be well beautiful lady and stay safe. Peace and love.
Thanks Christi, you clearly liked what you saw and heard... Super nice that we have at least one live performance from the latest album! Again I sense that Floor could have sung this in many ways but chooses this way because she wants to tell the complete story, with her whole heart. Marvelously accompanied by Troy, agreed!
I love this version, but I love the album version too. How cool the heartbeat sound in this. All the instruments blended together very beautifully. And The acapella at the end of this song is amazing
Great reaction as always, with explanations & advice adding value 👍. How could we not love Floor when she sings like this, and Tuomas when he composes like this...?
Even if you don’t make a video of it, I highly suggest watching the official lyric video for your own enjoyment. There is a triple harmony with Floor, Troy, and Marko that is very beautiful near the end.
This version is so emotional and also powerful. The message is kindness, caring and love, which hit quite hard to big old softy like me. I shed some tears every time i hear it. The album version is like celtic rock, but also very good. One of my favorites on the album.
Hello Christi - I hope everyone is healthy with you. Sometimes it's better to reduce something to the minimum - Troy and Floor did that here and it sounds extremely good and they have a lot of fun doing it. They are very relaxed but professional enough to make an extraordinary performance here. More than Floor, Troy surprised me here, I didn't know that his ability to play acoustic guitar was so well developed. Before Floor, hmm - what else can I say, she is the Swiss Army Knife of vocal art - often copied but never equalled... About the composition and the whole album: it should be mentioned that Tuomas is a composer who - in best tradition of medieval poets and minstrels - not only writes lyrics. The lyrics are in themselves already a part of the magic of Nightwish, poetry in its purest form. These compositions are emotional rollercoasters that carry you off into worlds - it has happened to me several times that after listening to an album I sat in my armchair without orientation. With the new album, they have meanwhile advanced into spheres that - apart from any commercialism - establish a completely new genre, they break all the templates that have existed up to now. All the best and stay healthy!!
Kristy, I am a happily married man (25 years) in my 50s, but you are one of the most beautiful and graceful women I have ever seen. Every reaction you do is like a visit from an old friend for me.
She did both versions of this song in the 2 show virtual concerts . Friday - this version Satuday - with the band And needless to say she murdered both of them .
Nice cameo by your dog ( 6: 55 ). Next Nightwish reaction introduce her / him. Your reaction was great and informative as usual. I'll pass on blowing bubbles though.
There is such a huge conversation on this full track on Nightwish's channel about this song. There are so many layers of references in the lyrics. And we chatted about all the possible previous Nightwish songs this referenced too: so this song might be a part response to The Islander, Élan, and/or Romanticide and the folk elements have echos of responses to Moondance. But who knows what is really going on except Tuomas himself 💖 Sending love+hugs Christie❣️💜 stay safe and well, darling xxxx you are wonderful, thank you for doing this one xxxx you are beloved❣️💜
This was stunning. The twists, the turns, the key changes, the absolute control. Fantastic. Thank you for bringing this to our attention (and for those who already knew of this ... thank you for bringing it to Christi's attention!). Wowza. Loved the little straw-bubble exercise. I use a very similar thing (and lip or tongue trills) with children who have vocal misuse and hoarseness, to help get a relaxed, mid-level pitch, and a sense of frontal resonance. Lovely warm-out and a fun one to do (to the horror of some parents in the 'splash zone' ... especially now, that it is all virtual ...). Also, and on a totally different plane, can we take a moment to appreciate this absolute masterpiece of a tasseled jacket. Sublime.
Agreed! Her outfit was amazing! And how fun that you are using it with your clients, Annie. It is a fun one for kids since Mom usually doesn't let you blow bubbles in your drink. At least MY mom never allowed it, ha! Have a wonderful week!
Troy is one of the lead vocals along with Tuomas's wife: Johanna Kukela in Tuoma's 'other band': AURI. More along the lines of this type song. Some very beautiful songs. Available on YT
I think we should send this recording to the Moon, Mars and any other planet we could reach to show what Humans are capable of. This, as Christi said, is beyond compare.
Christi - Floor's been working on new material in her home studio. Yesterday she revealed that the song she's releasing this month will be in TWO LANGUAGES. To say I'm excited would be a massive understatement. 🤘😁
I try to not get impressed every time I listen a new Nightwish song because I know Floor can do everything but is impossible, she is as unique as the first day... Love your reaction!
This masterpiece of a song is in my top 3 from the Human side of the new album alongside Shoemaker and Music. I'm saying Human side because the Nature side with All the Works of Nature Which Adorn the World is perfection, but not really comparable as such. Such a gorgeous album and one of the best I've ever heard. This performance is so beautiful. Thank you for the reaction, your smile is so contagious!
I hope so much they are going to mix the acoustic and the fully instrumented version at their virtual live concert this may, just like they did with "the islander" in Tampere
Thank you for this review. It's one of my favorite songs on their new album. Can't wait to see your reaction video to the live version with the entire band, but unfortunately it will take a while. Again, beautiful song, beautiful reaction, beautiful vocal coach.
I believe that Tuomas wrote this specifically for Floor. Especially the line 'Now the one who came from me'. She'd recently given birth to her daughter.
In music, melismatic refers to a style of singing first started in 900 AD and culminating in the Boroque era in which a single syllable of text is sung carried through many notes. This is in contrast to syllabic singing in which each syllable of text gets a single note. Floor can alter her breath control very well in all situations. Amazing! 🔥🤙

Floor said, that it took a lot of training to get these new songs sound so easy, when they are actually quite hard to sing (because of all vocal acrobacy). I personally would have liked more simple vocals on many parts throughout the whole album, but it seems to get better each time I listen to these songs.
Hi Christine, have you seen these yet from Floor ?: Epica Stabat Mater Dolorosa feat Floor Jansen LIVE, Floor Jansen (Revamp) : O Mio Babbino Caro, live @ MFVF 8 , Floor Jansen & Red Limo String Quartet : Energize Me (Live accoustic 2009)
Absolutely a masterpiece this album is! I've been listening to it at least once daily since the release. Must watch their lyric viceos. I've seen ur react to Shoemaker, but the rest of the tracks are nice too.😬
The review matches the music - exquisite. Not much else to say there. Since you mentioned about Tuomas a few times, I thought I'd just add... That guy really must feel like an evil genius of sorts - somewhere between Blofeld from Spectre and "Dr. Evil", sitting there with a glass of wine and a cat in his lap, thinking "I've got a band that can play any freaking thing I write. I've got a lead singer who can sing any freaking thing I write. What evil scheme can I concoct for them this time?!?! Mwahahaha!!!"
That is the difference between american and european music. Alessandro Barricco talks about that in his book, the american one is often brutal and go to the essential, the european one is elegant and charming !
I think i knew Blackmoores Knight already a while before i first heared Nightwish, and this somehow reminds me of that. I mean Candice is no Floor, but it was somehow cool at that time when Ritchie Blackmoore suddenly did this kind of stuff instead of hardrock.
Troy is lead vocal on new song Harvest. Only available as a lyric video but still beautiful to listen to. For Marco try The Islander live at Tampere or his cover of High Hopes live. Imagine having Floor as your backing singer :)
Loved the timing, how right after you mentioned the organic, folk style Nightwish has the song went all wonderfully wonky! Which is of course Nightwishy as well, sometimes you think you've got the feel of the song and you're settling into it... even thinking oh this is predictable and I know the style they're going for, and just then it shifts entirely (and then again, and again). :)
Hi Christi. did you see Epica and Floor Jansen "Sancta Terra" song band with orchestra .... so good epic wild 😁👉 hard rock, operatic and metal rythms all of together.... we are waiting your reaction...please... thanks
Another great analysis of a beautiful performance. Thanks. It is interesting what you say about Tuomas' melody lines. If you want to see more of this then look at some of his music done outside of Nightwish. Here is a song he wrote for a solo project and sung by his wife, Johanna Kurkela. Another excellent singer with an angelic voice. It is called A Lifetime of Adventure. th-cam.com/video/JWwSVOo5K_k/w-d-xo.html
Actually the idea of Nightwish as a band was supposed to be folk acoustic music...once Tuomas heard how powerful Tarja Turunen's voice had become they decided instead to make of Nightwish a metal band...... so with this song they go back to the very first idea of how Nightwish was supposed to be in the beginning...
WOW! My mind is literally blown with this information. 👏 Thanks for the education on this wonderful group of musicians. I believe they could do ANY form of music they wanted to.
I don't think it's possible to sing... that like that. What's right with Floor that's so wrong with everyone else? She's 99,65362% spot on in a melody that's written to give her a stroke and at a pace that's supposed to give her a heart attack. It's so good.
Hope you will do the reaction on the album version for comperrison Love your explanation of vocal technique, I am not a singer but like to hear about it.
Another lovely, informative reaction, but my favourite bit was the patter of claws and seeing your dog's tail wagging in the mirror just before the seven minute mark :)
I am positive you might like Pentangle - Hunting song featuring Jacqui McShee. There's a live version available. Please react to that even though it is an old performance from the early 70's. :)
Troy's voice is meant to leave that feeling for you. Think of it more as a base line or "flat" tone, not flat in pitch, but an even tonal quality to fill the song while giving Floor a base or canvas to paint with her soaring vocals. Troy is fully capable of much more of course, but that's not what the song requires. And if we know anything about Nightwish, it's that everyone gives exactly what the music requires, nothing more or flashy and nothing less.
I practice the last part of the song almost everyday ( the most difficult for me) but it is really hard singing that part with that strenght .... any piece of advice?
Fun little tidbits of trivia : The second verse (We met where the cliff greets the sea / Shared a story took the leap / Rose up rooted hid a note / You know where, you've been there / Now there's one who came from me / A child of light another tale) directly references Floor and her husband Hannes (Drummer for the Swedish band Sabaton) , her moving to Sweden with him as well as the birth of their daughter Freja. You can see her joy when she sings that part

That's awesome to know. The "cliff greets the sea" part is also a reference to another NW song.

Right?! I just love the rapport that they so obviously have. Beautiful.
@Phil Thanks for mentioning that; I didn't catch it first time around - but that's exactly the look.

It is just astonishing how many perfect diamonds are associated with Nightwish. Good spot about the European folk sound - Troy comes from that background originally, as did his parents.

Floor's breath control and shear amount of lung capacity is mind boggling at times.
@Semper verum And she is not afraid to use them ;) To our delight :)
@Semper verum It doesn't surprise me that she says she's a strong swimmer. She has the upper body shape of one, too.
i have asked does her stature, over 6' tall, give her additional lung capacity?
Well lot of Dutch are world swimming champions...
It's seems so easy for her, everything that she sings! But we know that it's not the case! She has a unbelievable voice and control! I just love her! ❤️

If you want to hear Troy, check out Harvest where he sings lead.
Yes, that has that old school folk metal sound. Full and delicious. With just enough aggression to be fun.
Troy is such a talent

Absolutely a masterpiece this album is! I've been listening to it at least once daily since the release. Must watch their lyric viceos. I've seen ur react to Shoemaker, but the rest of the tracks are nice too.😬
Hi Christi. I love this version and Floor and Troy are amazing. Floor voice is so powerful.
The review matches the music - exquisite. Not much else to say there. Since you mentioned about Tuomas a few times, I thought I'd just add...
That guy really must feel like an evil genius of sorts - somewhere between Blofeld from Spectre and "Dr. Evil", sitting there with a glass of wine and a cat in his lap, thinking
"I've got a band that can play any freaking thing I write. I've got a lead singer who can sing any freaking thing I write. What evil scheme can I concoct for them this time?!?! Mwahahaha!!!"
Now you need to do PAN from the new album.
That is the difference between american and european music. Alessandro Barricco talks about that in his book, the american one is often brutal and go to the essential, the european one is elegant and charming !
The new album is full of 3 voices harmonies, plus very interesting syncopated, rhythmic & tonal vocals from Floor.
..absolutely,nothings compare to U,R..voice..sorry my english, miss Floor..thanks for all what U and Tuomas and the band gives to us..
In case of emergency Floor Jansen can be used as car alarm, ambulance siren, air raid alarm or fog horn.
If you would like to hear more Troy, I suggest you listen to Harvest on Nightwishes new album
A very nice reaction for this very beautiful telling piece of art, Christi.
Another great reaction, thank you. For vocal complexity you would love Music. The first song on the new Nightwish album. It’s bonkers !
The ringlight you use for illumination results in the strangest reflection in your pupils when you face the camera. ;-)
Troy and floor also did a acoustic version of nemo it's incredible to
I think i knew Blackmoores Knight already a while before i first heared Nightwish, and this somehow reminds me of that. I mean Candice is no Floor, but it was somehow cool at that time when Ritchie Blackmoore suddenly did this kind of stuff instead of hardrock.
Hello, great reaction. I like your analytical view of each song. You should see Ayreon - Merlin's Will with Floor.
Thanks Christi an amazing song, they also recorded an acoustic version of 'Nemo' along with this definitely worth a listen 🤘🤘
Yes, react to the origial NIGHTWISH | How's The Heart official lyric video!!!!
Do Ghost River next
Please do also reactions on Procession and Endlessness. The latter is a "Marco song" which sounds amaaaaazing
Never clicked so fast.......
More Troy, listen to Harvest 😊
Hi Christi. did you see Epica and Floor Jansen "Sancta Terra" song band with orchestra .... so good epic wild 😁👉 hard rock, operatic and metal rythms all of together.... we are waiting your reaction...please... thanks
Right here: th-cam.com/video/3azh1TYvHY0/w-d-xo.html
We need to get her to watch this one if she hasn't, yet. th-cam.com/video/nhtOORYTGx8/w-d-xo.html
Stabat Mater Dolorosa
Another great analysis of a beautiful performance. Thanks.
It is interesting what you say about Tuomas' melody lines. If you want to see more of this then look at some of his music done outside of Nightwish. Here is a song he wrote for a solo project and sung by his wife, Johanna Kurkela. Another excellent singer with an angelic voice. It is called A Lifetime of Adventure.

Did you ever watch the official video of this track? What did you think? Would you post a reaction?
If you want to hear more of Troy, then I can suggest Harvest
Actually the idea of Nightwish as a band was supposed to be folk acoustic music...once Tuomas heard how powerful Tarja Turunen's voice had become they decided instead to make of Nightwish a metal band...... so with this song they go back to the very first idea of how Nightwish was supposed to be in the beginning...
WOW! My mind is literally blown with this information. 👏 Thanks for the education on this wonderful group of musicians. I believe they could do ANY form of music they wanted to.
Here's an idea: since you are a vocalist and you husband is a guitarist, do a cover of this performance and post it.
Nightwish - PAN - 2020
I don't think it's possible to sing... that like that. What's right with Floor that's so wrong with everyone else? She's 99,65362% spot on in a melody that's written to give her a stroke and at a pace that's supposed to give her a heart attack. It's so good.
Hope you will do the reaction on the album version for comperrison
Love your explanation of vocal technique, I am not a singer but like to hear about it.
Another lovely, informative reaction, but my favourite bit was the patter of claws and seeing your dog's tail wagging in the mirror just before the seven minute mark :)
Yes, that is my old Lab, Finn. He needs a toe nail trim! 😂
The Voice Love Co. Awww, bless him :)
Did you see Troy’s face at the end? 😄
Please check out Sleeping Sun performed by Tarja. It brings me to tears honestly every time no matter how old I am and how many years passed ♥️
In short floor decided to sing a song that will not be covered easily.. 😍😍
I practice the last part of the song almost everyday ( the most difficult for me) but it is really hard singing that part with that strenght .... any piece of advice?
