when you said that injuries move they don't disappear I related to this so much. you are such a positive and smart kid. and the way you talk about the mental stuff is also extremely grown up.
I gained almost 10 inches over 2 years, it wasn't linear gains, after the first 4 inches from newbie gains and jump approach correction, I met a plateau. It wasn't exactly a paused result in my training but rather it was because the result from past work hasn't been appearing yet. I kept at it and now I'm jumping even higher and it's still increasing, if I deload now and let my body feel fresh by staying away from the weight room again, I would be jumping so much higher than before. But doing that now would hinder my future progress so I choose to keep investing and trust the process.
It's interesting listening to how you guys do it now.. Back in 91' I hit 39" at 6'2"...All we had were the platform jump shoes training and a $19.99 pamphlet (that came in the mail) with vertical exercises. I didn't start balling till 10th grade. I skated from 6th grade to 10th. That's where my leg strength came from.
Jumpsoles I think they were called. Not sure what those did other than destroy your calves. Skating was great for jumping just for the high level speed/coordination you need to just do a basic ollie or kickflip.
What kind of meniscus injury Austin? Would love to hear your about your rehab process. Recently had surgery to repair a bucket handle tear and wondering about the process of eventually ramping up to high intensity training again. Assume you guys see that kind of stuff fairly often as an occupational hazard. Love the slew of content recently. Keep it up!
Your advice to not have a timeline is good, but I am short, old, and fat. Should I not have a timeline like dunk before 30? I feel like my days are numbered and the odds to get my first dunk decrease a percentage point every day, hence the timeline
Losing weight is pretty easy you just have to be consistent, you can still train your vertical indirectly while losing weight aswell. Building muscle from vert training can increase your metabolism too making losing weight easier
I am 46years 6'2 can i dunk?, the last time i touched the rim was when I was 35years old. Since that I gained 25pounds and had a few issues on my knees.
It really depends on your height and standing reach. If you’re below 6ft with short arms then it’ll take you A LOT of work to dunk but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. Knees over toes guy on TH-cam has a lot of good videos that you could start with.
Doing plyo's right now in my opinion wouldn't be a good idea if you are 25lbs over weight and have knee issues. You have a really good height advantage so if you were to lose that 25 lbs your knees would probably hurt less and then you could start easing into doing plyos, If I were you I'd do strength training until you slim down so that you preserve the muscle you have gained from carrying that extra 25 lbs and if you haven't been strength training already you'll probably gain some muscle too due to all the extra energy stores (fat) you have on your body as long as you get adequate amounts of protein.
You should lose the weight and get your body comp back in order before trying to jump. Get your strength back to at least where it was when you were 35. That part alone might take 4-6 months of work. I'd be working mobility as well while i'm getting stronger. By then you will be fit and ready to jump.
hi Isaiah, im kinda confused. Ive heard you say that doing the same exercises again and again can decrease progress, but you also have a video where you explain that you have been doing the same morning routine for years. Does this principle not apply?
Wait so if you are following a consistent workout routine with weights and plyos but you’re progressively overloading the weight of each exercise, will you still plateau because you arent changing your workout movements?
you gotta have different variations of it thoo and progressiveley overloading the intensity (like your 1 Rep Max percentage) not the reps and Sets because there's a required optimal rep range for every percentage of 1RM
Hi Isaiah. I have a vert around 24'' and im 6'2 weighing 180 pounds. I work out 2-3 times a week, how many max jump reps should i do per session for maximum vert gain.
High bar emphasizes more on quads and low bar emphasizes more on hams but it depends on what you prefer . you need is to fint the best variation that suits for you that allows you to have proper form
ive seen people jump more than 130cm+ that is more than 50.5 inches that is 128cms so idk if u have the world record people like kingdac valerio de castro and tyy2.0 jump higher than u
Very impressive, next level. I always tried jumping high as secondary, my first jumps were horizontal for triple jump made cities for track in field in Toronto. All the best. 🤍🖤
UPDATE: The ten spots are GONE! You can still use the code THP for 10% off your first month though 🔥

this is the most insightful video on the process of gaining vertical leap that i’ve ever seen. thank y’all so much. time to put the work in

Can you make a video on recovery? Like what’s the best way to recover from a workout.
The quote about depression coming from a lack of options was awesome
Love these vids man, so helpful!!!
Thank you Isaiah for the valuable information ❤😊
Coming off the Offensive Line and having a goal of Jumping Higher are Worlds apart: Gesh! 💌🏀🔭🌟💯🙏😇🧬👑

Thanks for say the side that no one sees of jumping higher
I just want a 30” vert 😔 I’ll be happy about that. I’m at 23-24” rn
I was just talking about not having a timeline w hunter yesterday haha
Thanks guys
thank you man
Guy on the left with a 46in vert can’t consistently dunk on 9’9 not hating just might want to get that tested again

30 isnt old yet, the guy who started dunk camp got his first dunk when he was 41. as long as you're in good shape and not fat, you're good

@@t0xtricity2 not really an excuse to take care of yourself though is it?
You'll still make gains just not as high as you would if you're younger
Andy Nicholson, search him up! @overthehilldunker
Should give your thoughts or a try on vktry insoles that many dunkers promote.
ive seen him say that he tried them and they didnt work
It’s a scam
Tried them and they didn’t do anything

The purpose of those exercises isn’t to increase performance. They’re mainly for injury prevention and rehab
@@IsaiahRivera1 So overfitting doesnt apply in injury prevention. Ty, you're great isaiah
Down goes the the drain of my dream to just fly every day like Ja Morant 😅😅😅. I guess i am done then. Just lift weights to not get fat
How do you get rid of lower back pain?
Rest and slowly add exercise to strengthen it, the issue could also be from weak hamstrings and hips
For me having great mobility and being in constant movement and drinking a lot of water has completely removed back pain. It doesn't exist.

5 sets of 5 reps with 2-4 min rest in between sets
depends on your level if your a beginner focus on minimum ground contact and master the fundamentals
