I learned it's better to accept new changes in New media rather than expecting old things in remakes to stay the same and just try something diffrent I feel it's better that way so that I don't take disappointment so hard..thanks for the video
I don’t get why some people even like silent hill 2 with the things they’re mad at. Like they’re mad that Angela is “ugly” as if she was ever remotely treated as “hot” while she wore a turtleneck and had loud trauma flashbacks about her being treated as a s*x object
I swear they just want Silent Hill to fail the amount of loops people are jumping through just to put this game down

The so called fans who just wanna be toxic, bandwagon on fake hate and these people employed in the industry who just wanna force agendas into games they don't even play. It's a great thing that i think for myself, because this whole situation has gotten out of hand. I'm buying the game, i'm gonna play through it and then judge on the actual things that i did/didn't like. I'm not missing out on the entire game just because some people feel something that i do not.
Yeah, they are really putting a lot of focus into convincing people that game is terrible and there are a lot of people bandwagoning on the hate too.
@@LandofBrickForests u do u. Personally I understand very well why they hired Bloober. It was cheap. Had they rly cared about the series and its legacy, they’d do it internally, like capcom. So, they basically saved on devs and charged 70 bucks + upcharged us for 48h early access. Idc, I’ll buy it too just to see it like you said. However, there’s a solid ground for criticism and imo the community has all the rights for toxicity.

They're so obsessed with the Twin Peaks and David Lynch vibe and flavor of the Original Team Silent FOUR that's why. They think it's lost in the later Western made games and now the upcoming remake.

1:11 Saying Kojima isn't involved with SH anymore is a big reach. That man barely had anything to do with the franchise apart from the P.T demo. Silent Hill achieved it greatness and popularity (the first 3 games) without having Kojima as the dev at all. There's this dev team called Team Silent and its members that you need to know about
Oh I'm aware he was barely involved as is, it's just such a huge thing people go on about constantly I needed to mention he had little to no involvement as is. Team Silent were only involved with the first 3 if I remember?

Some prominent members of the team are:
1. Keiichiro Toyama - director of the 1st game, left after the 1st game, went on to make games like Siren & Gravity Rush, his new upcoming game is a horror game called Slitterhead
2. Masahiro Ito - background and creature designer, worked on SH 1-3, famously known as the creator of Pyramid Head, one of the two members of the team that Bloober brought back for the remake, very active on Twitter too these days though you should be careful not to annoy him or else he'll block you 😅
3. Takayoshi Sato - CGI creator, worked on SH 1 & 2, famously known for working on the 3D cutscenes SOLELY by himself, took him nearly 2,000 hours to complete, and during much of this time period the schedule would be so demanding that he would sleep under his office desk
4. Hiroyuki Owaku - scenario writer, worked on SH 1-3
5. Akira Yamaoka - sound director and the games composer, worked on all main SH games except Downpour, famously known for all the great soundtracks from the franchise, also brought back by Bloober for the remake just like Ito

Yeah, some people in the comments act like if Kojima was a huge character in the development of Silent Hill games. The man barely even made ONE Silent Hill game.
Kojima wasn't in team silent but he did create PT. barley? Chico from mgsV was in the trailer of the game lmao.

i cannot wait for the remake, i love how they kept the silent hill vibe while also updating it, and we still have 5 months for bloober to finalise the finishing touches so you never know what they could do/change
I am very excited too, yes this is the era and generation of remakes but it was bound to happen for many cult classics!

The amount of hateful comments/videos I've seen directed towards Angela are a bit frustrating. Like there's so many chronically online gamers just ripping into her model for not being pretty enough, when she looks like someone who is going through a traumatic time (which fits the script). "No one hates Silent Hill more than Silent Hill fans" is a perfect way to put it.

Exactly. I feel like those are gamers who've never played the original because if they did, they would know that Angela isn't supposed to be pretty. Maria is of course but Angela isn't of those female characters that is meant to make people attracted to her or something. She's been put through hell, her dad molested and beat her. Are we going to pretend that people like her are interested in taking care of themselves? No, she doesn't want to look pretty, she neglects herself to keep the men away from her.

I have seen a lot of people worried about DEI involvement, and don't get me wrong i also hate it but...idk why people but people saying Angela looks ugly and even fat (somehow?) rubs me in the wrong way.
It's almost like they forgot this tiny little detail that Angela is a traumatized victim of sexual abuse and then would think she'd be able to take care of her looks despite carrying such traumatic life experience, and besides, in the original it's clear she's heavily broken by that, even hurting James with the knife. (Hell she literally decides to kill herself in the fire scene). It gives me the feeling some of them don't even know the story of the game, but i digress.
I do agree she looks off and uncanny though, buuut...being uncanny was always something the original did especially with its voice acting (intentionally or not) so who knows.
We'll see, i wonder if this remake succeeds we might get a Silent Hill 1 Remake as well
There's no reason to change Angela's design, there's no reason to get rid of the fog, there's no reason to put meek facial expressions on Maria, again you're messing with a cult classic, that's a cult classic for a reason and if you're fundamentally tinkering with it and changing it whilst calling your reimagining a remake we are going to have a problem.
The job of graphically remaking games should be the easiest job in the world, you already have the plot, the characters and the overall design set up you just need to re-create it in higher graphical fidelity. That's all, nobody wants these folks to reimagine popular classics or bring in new writers to change the plot, we don't want the original experience replaced by something inferior, we just want it remastered, you know?
@@liquidsnake6879 i do agree with some of your points and i know Silent Hill 2 in specific is a delicate game to be making reimaginations, but that's also kinda the thing about Remakes, unlike Remasters they have the freedom to make a few changes in character design or even level design, yes they could just leave it all untouched but sometimes risks can result in something interesting, the best examples would be Ashley from Re4 Remake being totally different from the original, the Ishimura from Dead Space Remake being fully explorable instead of being linear and everything about Mr. X from Re2 Remake
If i'm gonna be honest my biggest worries are how the combat is going to play (cause oh boy if a lot of RE fans are going to think this is an action horror game) and hope the puzzles stay the same, including the ones that are almost impossible to guess

@@liquidsnake6879 What you're describing is a remaster. Remake is much more than graphical fidelity. Remake is supposed to tell the same story but in a totally different way. It's not supposed to be 1:1 with the original but with better graphics.
@@MultiKamil97 Sadly remasters tend to be too lazy, like upscales and stuff like that, i've very rarely seen remasters that actually update the graphics fully, with new shading, new textures, new models etc one of which is Metroid Prime Remastered.
But those kinds of remasters are the exception rather than the rule. In general i think that's what people really want, nobody asked for these kinds of re-imaginings of beloved games, we already like them as they are, we never asked for someone to come in and re-imagine them.
You do that with games that sucked, not games that were hits and are beloved classics you know? The line between Remaster and Remake is still very blurred in that way, because of the laziness of remasters.
To me that's the whole question, who actually called for a remake/re-imagining of Silent Hill 2? Or was it that people called really for a proper remaster and Konami chose to interpret it as a call for a remake?

In the recent interview with Motoi Okamoto, he said that Bloober Team wanted to keep the remake faithful to the original, but Ito and Yamaoka wanted to change things up. But yet Bloober Team gets hate for the changes?

Most of the ppl I’ve seen that complain about everything from the remake have never actually played the original game
Ive never personally played the orignal games but god damn ive been invested in this before they made the announcement to this game
I see this comment a lot. I've played every game in the series multiple times, 2 and 4, especially. I'm one of the 10 people who played that dogshit diablo clone book of memories. Even then, it was mainly for the soundtrack. I want a good silent hill game i even liked downpour, but remaking 2 and removing the camera angles (which was an artistic choice by team silent in the OG), removing the sexualisation of Maria the whole point of her character being a made up version of mary james wished she was, even in the cutscene cinematography shown in the footage we have is the bog standard pan on character talking switch to different character talking (like fallout 4 for a reference) the voice acting somehow being worse than the HD collection redub, the voice acting in the original also added to the atmosphere and dreamlike vibe the game has. Look at interviews with james OG voice actor he even says as much. What this looks like is homecoming with somehow worse graphics and models. The jury is out on gameplay and could be less clunky than homecoming or just as bad. I don't blame bloober team they clearly wanted to do the camera angles and be a updated version of the OG they did it well with the medium. It's more konami meddling with them not understanding the game and overruling anyone making the game who does.

Exactly. They're like "Meeeh Angela is so ugly. They made her fat. She used to be so pretty" which is hilarious because first, Angela was never pretty to begin with and second, she ISN'T supposed to be beautiful. I'm also against WOKE but gamers today seriously exaggerate this term and think that a girl not looking hot is automatically WOKE. They just went too crazy about it to the point where they see woke-ism everywhere they look. They act like if every female character should be a sexy gal with big boobs and big ass which is hilarious because while I like hot girls in games also, I think that not every woman in the game NEEDS to be hot. In Angela aspect, she's supposed to be everything but hot. She isn't there to attract male gazes, she's a victim of mental and physical abuse, her being ugly is what makes her more believable. I wouldn't expect a victim of abuse to take care of herself.

I do think the character designs need some work, but good lord, people need to calm tf down. If that shit is really is dealbreaker for you I question whether you’re even a fan in the first place. SH2 is one of my fav games. I like the graphics, atmosphere, combat IS improved. Just pre ordered my copy.
That's great to hear an OG fan is having faith in the remake 🙏 but I do agree, if they changed entire plot points, characters and the location. Sure it needs to be called out. But this? Is a remake haha.

How is combat improved? It look awkward and in the bad way. Combat in the original was bad amd it understood it. It was never action oriented and was treated like a punishment or an obstacle. This game tries so hard for combat to look "cool" with this camera shake and exaggerated animation and brutal takedowns. But it just looks goofy and out of place
I agree but I'm glad Bloober team is listening and still respecting the original game down to its core.
Silent Hill 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I’m stoked. Problem with Silent Hill is its fandom. They won’t accept it, no matter how it turns out. It’s one of those fandoms that fancies itself an exclusive club. I’m just excited that a new generation of gamers will get put on. I just hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
I personally love what they did with SH the message and how the fog itself is phenomenon now that can go anywhere. Other fans hate it. They just want the game to stay the same forever and this remake is trying to do something slightly different.
Same. SH2 is my all time favorite game. I am so hyped for this. I was only a little sad at James' original face but this one they went with is perfect imo. The graphics and everything looks outstanding. There's nothing I'm seeing that looks bad and the crazy hate and, honestly, conflicting complaints I'm seeing is wild to me.

@@mr.sinjin-smyth the thing is the later games still had that vibe anyway so idk what people are on about. When Origins came out I was like "yay, silent hill game" and it freaked me out just as much as the prior games. Same with Downpour. The arguments about "the vibe" are not serious, imo.

Something I'm worried about is the braindead RE fans who are going to go in expecting RE2. I love the RE remakes, but Silent Hill is completely different. I don't want the game to get a 75% on Metacritic because it's not as action packed as RE.
I agree, RE fans are some of the most toxic people I've come across. In creator circles I actively avoid them now. They did the same to alone in the dark recently

I've been a fan of both RE and Silent Hill since they first came out (the first two of each mostly)
I'm actually expecting a Silent Hill 2 remake from Silent Hill 2 remake, I guess we're not all "braindead" after all.
If I'm going to bring up RE, I would want the SH2 remake to be made with the same love and hard work that was put into the RE1 remake where Capcom expanded on the original and added slightly more without it coming across as a cash grab or rushed like the other RE remakes.

Angela’s head seems off compared to the size of the body.
I think that's just the angle of some of the shots personally but they have time to adjust it if most people notice an issue

I agree. I have no issues with angela's face. Just in comparison to the body something is off. I think it has something to do with the fact that she just doesn't have much of a shape. There are no curves like she is skinny but the face doesn't match that so there seems to be a disconnect in that way. Not body shaming because I am sure it exist in the world its just not the norm so I look at it and it just feels off. Stangely outside the graveyard cutscene she loos okay. Its just in the graveyard cutscene it seems off. Also alot of people had mention it just seems like less care was put into her model then other models which could probably be felt as well.
I'm so glad I'm not crazy. I was thinking this exactly. Like maybe her head is like 10% larger than normal? And the model is a bit lower res somehow. Idk what it is, but I still love her design and can't wait for the game.

@@rusi6219 Facts... I feel like even if this remake ends up being objectively incredible they will still cry over the smallest thing's.
If they keep this up Bloober won't wanna remake SH 1, 3 and/or 4... Neither will any other studio. Think about it, if you where a director at any game studio, would you wanna subject yourself and you're team to what Bloober is going threw now? I wouldn't, if I was a director working at say CapCom, I wouldn't wanna get near this fan base after watching this unfold, never.
The wild part to me is... It's coming out day one on PC and its a UE5 game... It's going to be easy as fk to mod, within 5 hours of the game coming out there will be videos of James fighting Thomas the train uploaded to TH-cam. Why are they hating, Bloober NAILS environments, these haters have a beautiful foundation to easily make the game they want if they are really so unhappy with Bloober and Ito's vision.
There is no reason to not cheer on Bloober and hope they are successful enough to make a remake of 1, 3, 4 and maybe even Book of memories... Hell even a Downpour remake could be cool if they had Ito and Yama help revamp it. With PC ports that can be easily modded, why wouldn't we want that?
Literally the only complaints I have about SH2 so far are the animations (running, Melee attacks, etc) and Angela's face, it just looks off, like the model looks as if it's a lower quality than the other characters? Either way, I hope they have time to change these, because I know a lot of people also have these same issues, and I REALLY want this game to be AMAZING, everything else looked SO good.
Angela's eyebrows do look like they were drawn on by a kid with a sharpie. Hair doesn't seem very detailed either unlike James', but that could also be due to video compression muddying things up. In the scene where her and James are in a dark room and she's telling him he shouldn't be here, her face does look more detailed.
It looks bland and reminiscent of SH Homecoming.

@drbalbon7332 Because the game doesn't look bland or anything like Homecoming. Visually and presentational it looks absolutely fantastic, the story we will have to see. Opinions are fine but commenting negativity is exactly the issue I said about in the video.

In my opinion Silent Hill fans have every right to be mad about how this remake is turning out. It is SO obvious that Bloober didn't even try to give it its own identity. It honestly looks like a soulless Last of Us / Resident Evil clone in a Silent Hill 2 skin.
Like, why not try doing something unique with the combat for example? Instead of blatantly copying Resident Evil, why not try to slow things down to accommodate it to Silent Hill's atmosphere? Let going through doors take 2 seconds and let switching weapons take a couple seconds as well. That would add another layer of strategy to the combat and add to the atmosphere. But no, of course James jumps through doors like they're not even there (exactly like in RE), and his weapons instantly materialize in his hands as soon as you switch them. 🙄
Also, every single thing you can interact with will have a small icon next to it, that you can see from like a mile away like we're too stupid to discover anything by ourselves. That alone throws any type of immersion straight out the window. And I could go on and on...
Silent Hill 2 is like the only classic horror game that doesn't need a remake. No Silent Hill fan wanted it to begin with. If they would remake the first game instead, nobody would complain about it.
I completely disagree with you here but it's good to have differing opinions, your not out right attacking it for silly reasons just what you believe which is fine. I do agree however, we should have got Silent Hill first like you said. Seems silly to jump to 2, but I still have some faith on this but we need to see more before I'm totally convinced. Bloober could be cooking something good, reviews will tell.
The fact that the nurses and the enemies along with Maria where over sexualized in the original game was because James was sexually frustrated because he could not be intimate with his wife due to her illness. That was part of his punishment while in Silent Hill.The fact that they just throw that out the window with this DEI shit just shows me the new devs don’t even respect the original creators or team Silent vision.
I think this is a valid complaint, one of the only things I agree with changes that there needs to be a lore reason unless they become more sexualised as the game goes on
I don't see what you see. Maria still looks sexy and stands out, she's just modernized instead of wearing a 90's outfit and the nurses, as Fermi said, are wearing short skirts and cleavage is displayed. I don't know why you don't find Maria's redesign sexy. Maria wasn't even 'over sexualized' in the beginning - her skirt wasn't crazy short and she had a long sleeved button-up. She didn't even have cleavage showing in the OG :/ You saw her tummy and that was literally the most revealing thing. I would argue the black dress she's wearing IS sexualized.
But why modernize designs in the first place if the game is set during that time

The remake character designs especially on Maria and Angela sure have caused real firestorm on both sides of the spectrum. It's just incredibly hilarious, but it will help add more publicity, and free advertising and marketing for the game. I don't see anything wrong with the SH2 Remake, and aside from the ever present bias rose tinted nostalgia for original, I feel getting caught up with all this "w0ke" stuffs has really clouded their judgements with pure gatekeeping and hatred. It's getting really out of control for both sides.
Their side would look even more foolish if they start harassing and bullying Bloober, who have genuine passion for the remake and support from former members of Team Silent.
It's best to let the nonsense ride itself out, and I'm confident the SH2 Remake will be a smash hit come October 2024 (which I stated in previous comments being the ideal release date) thanks to all these publicity and renewed hype. It's going to be great seeing Silent Hill make a massive comeback, and what better way than to give SH2, often hailed the best in the series, a "modern" graphics and gameplay makeover.

I am very excited for it. The only real issue i have is no physical deluxe edition. I am getting fed up with the amount of people comparing an upscaled high res cutscene of Angela to this saying "they ruined Angela" a character they probably know nothing about. As if shes supposed to be beautiful. That alone tells me they know nothing about her. Then they use that as basis to boycott the game.
As far as Maria goes, the character who is actually supposed to be the hot sexy one, i see nothing wrong with her. We probably will get her og outfit in "Born From a Wish" or something. At least thats what im hoping for.
As a Silent Hill veteran player and hardcore fan, i can't wait to play this game. I hope it sells well so maybe we can get Silent Hill 1 & 3. 3 is my personal favorite and i really want to see those cool psychedelic bleeding wall effects done in high res someday.
The lack of deluxe or collectors is a little sad indeed but I agree totally on your other points too, I hope we get many endings and outfits. Plenty of new and old surprises. Thanks for watching!
I can tell you why this remake will not hold a candle to the OG SH2 in my own opinion:
_ The tones and infliction of the characters are off.
_ The promos are full of scenes where everything important is marked with button presses form notes to collectable items and doors. They don't respect the players' brains to find out things on their own.
_Maria which was intentionally sexy in design because of in game reasons was toned way down and her personality became more welcoming rather than ominous. She also speaks a lot which familiarise her relationship with James, rather than making the player being on their guard with her motivations.
All I got from the trailer is Last of Us 1 rather than SH2. A psychological monster horror game.
Feel free to buy the remake and enjoy it as well, but it's not my cup of tea, especially when the original is superior in the environment, story and character. The remake's bonus is the combat and the graphics

As a Silent Hill fan, I am hopefully optimistic about this remake. I am fine with the changes we have seen so far. The Angelia changes makes me happy seeing her as her age. It holds more weight to her story.
I want an updated Silent Hill. It looks like we are getting it so far. As long as the main story beats are the same I would say they succeeded. But the developers history with handling mental health has me concerned that they will miss the more subtle details that really touched people.
Like I just recently saw someone do a literary and religious breakdown of the story of Silent Hill 2. It’s been over 20 years and it still has stuff for us as fans to examine and pick apart.
I can also understand the hard criticism for Konami. They have beat the Silent Hill franchise into a shell of itself. The games post team silent have the finger prints of the Silent Hill we know and love and from what I can tell Konami rushing the games and more than likely saying the game needs to be more like whatever was popular at the time is what hurt those games.
I am hopeful for this game. I want it to touch my heart like the original. Am I preordering it? Fuck no. The game industry as a whole has proved for the last few years that preordering is just you paying more for the hope of the game you think you will get and then hating yourself for paying way too much for something you are not happy with.

I told him my stance on preorders and how I thought RE4 was the last semi decent preorder with the chainsaw controller and case for it. The day after the release of 2077 he saw the reviews and told me and I ask him if he was happy he saved the like $80 for preorder and he said yes because of how unplayable it was.
I am atleast glad Blooper and Konami have pushed the game back a few times. The fact we can actively see them making changes as a response to the fans is a good sign. It shows Konami is finally learning we will wait for them to let the developers polish the game and that they understand this is probably the last olive branch the fans will give them after all the post team silent games.
I am still very wary about Blooper executing the subtle themes of the game. Blooper is great at making pretty games but when it comes to tackling serious subjects like mental health I just look at The Medium and I am scared. They started out strong but the ending was garbage. And they said that game was inspired by SH2.
They need to understand that no matter what James killed Mary. The only thing that changes is how he addressed what he did. Whether he accepts he did it or keeps denying he did it. If he did it out of mercy for Mary and end her suffering or to end both of their suffering.
This is how the post team silent games failed. They didn’t give a solid this character did this and the town is making them go through the trauma. Like Downpour concept wise was exciting, but they fumbled it. The way they set it up the guard he did or didn’t kill was more than likely going to be attacked and killed. And the way you got the different endings felt shallow.
SH2 it was about how you played, not what of the two choices you were given did you choose. You could still save someone but it not be because you care but because you could use them to help yourself. SH2 it matters whether you take care of yourself, if you focus on trying to find Mary and not truly caring for Maria more than you would if she was a true stranger, whether you reflected on Mary’s letter.
It made you treat it as more than a game. And I am afraid of that being forgotten and putting the weight of the actions the original focused on into black and white choices.
I am genuinely excited for this remake and am also genuinely tired of all the complaining. Its gotten super toxic and I feel during the dev interviews you can tell the pressure its putting on them. Yes, there is still some legitimate criticism surrounding some polishing of animations, facial animations and performance however the game is still 5 months away from launch. I really dont feel Bloober is getting enough props for the immense amount of respect they are putting into the game in recapturing the atmosphere and grotesque beauty of the original game. Watching the gameplay showcase just gave me the i am playing the game for the first time vibes which is all I want. And look how much the game improved from the combat trailer, now imagine the potential it will have at release. I cant wait

I would completely understand if it was like some conspiracy to "uglify" her and if they gave her all sorts of ugly features in some attempt to shove body positivity down everyone's throats really hard, but this is not that. This is genuinely "boo hoo she's not a starving super model who is somehow still thicc in all the right places for some reason" she looks like a genuine normal average (still pretty attractive) woman. I don't understand these people one bit. The extreme of people that are against wokeness is just as bad of the deep extreme of actual woke people just for polar opposite reasons. People with gaming in general seem to hate on absolutely everything they are handed as of late. Sometimes it's warranted depending where you look, but other times, why are you even complaining?
Regarding the Angela 'controversy' I would say the complaints come from the underlying messages in the first game in that she has been aged by her experiences and it creates that disjointed feeling when she looks like an adult but speaks in a child-like way by calling her mother momma.
It is true that people don't like change because it isn't exactly what they remember in their mind although I don't mind the change to her as much as others.
The change for Maria though ties into core themes and by changing that and styles of enemies or the world it can have an effect on the narrative subtleties.
I do believe some people are massively over re-acting but off handedly dismissing all complaints about these sections as 'toxic' because of some toxic people feels just as short-sighted.
Fans created their own canon to why things are they'll way they are so when things change even just a little it feels like an attack on their intelligence. But little do they know almost everything we know about the messages in sh2 are things the FANS made up. True or not they ironically created their own hell
In the original Silent Hill there were dead bodies. Not dead james's. The dead body in the street had notes about encountering monsters.
They were James dead bodies, they literally had his clothes, it was stated by the games creator.
I think the problem fans have with Angela is the new version looks more stern faced and "less feminine" and has a slightly deeper voice when compared to the original.
The original version had a softer almost child like voice and features which were probably exaggerated to make her more empathetic to the audience and make them feel more protective of her and make her past and situation more tragic.
I think their complaints could obviously be worded better, but I also think people are blowing their comments out of proportion saying it's "misogynistic" blah blah.
It's early days, it's hard to tell from a trailer and a bit of gameplay.
Really solid video but at 8:25 I think the decision to make Angela look older and weary in the og fits her character more considering what she's been through. Also the Maria design is directly based off a concept sketch by Sato.

I'm a massive fan of the original Silent Hill 2 and after watching the transmission I'm really excited for it. The complaints I'm seeing prove to me that a lot of people have never played the original game or are being petty for the sake of it. What a lot of them don't understand is this is a ''remake'' of a 22 year old game, of course there's gonna be changes and personally I don't want it to be a 1:1 remake.
Indeed I agree, dear space was pretty much a 1 for 1 remake and it bored me. Resident evil 4 was a perfect remake that changed a good amount but kept the spirit of everything.

And unlike you they're right because Remeke tonally ruined many things that were important (everything dreamy, James to be tired all the time, character who embodied lust now being nice and regular, added scene w Angela to remove the contextual part of the Abstract Daddy and leave no place for the interpretation ("tell him I'm good please" moment which was into the face explanation), janky fight system, first monster meeting being less scary, and removed the Mary's spoiler censured talk from the radio, James being the normal guy instead of the broken man he was, even with the way he talks, "press X to do the thing"and tons of scripts bc "zoomers are dumb", while in the og James moved his head to the objects you had to use, and a lot of other inferior changes tbh.

There is much more casual players nowadays and you can't expect the studios to make the game as hard as it was back in the day. In Morrowind for example you had to follow the directions that NPCs gave you. In Oblivion they already gave you a compass with an icon where you're supposed to go. I don't like the games becoming easier and explaining everything to me either but I understand that it's absolutely necessary for the new players.

SH HD Collection, Metal Gear Survivor, turning almost all their IPs into pachinko machines, low effort re releases of old Castlevania games using bare minimum emulation, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection being a mediocre port that doesn't even let you change resolution on PC, firing Kojima before we got what it looked like an actual attempt to make a good SH, recent Contra games suck major ass, every single SH game released after SH4 is beyond bad, the recently released SILENT HILL THE SHORT MESSAGE filled to brims with MTX.

If you're doing a remake, especially of someone else's work, you have a duty to be accurate and faithful to the original. So why even change the designs at all? Its not like its the 1st SH where the models were blockier and lower res, SH2 still looks pretty good, just copy the characters verbatim, but in 4k (or whatever res its in). People know what the characters are meant to look like and its easier work for you. Start changing things and people will be unhappy, especially if the changes are bad or worse, undermine the original intent of the design.
You're mistaking a remake with remaster. This is a REMAKE, the changes to the plot and to characters and locations design are absolutely expected in a remake. In remake the story is meant to be the same but there is more freedom when it comes to anything else. Just like in Karate Kid remake. Instead of a Japanese and white, American boy, you have a Chinese and black, American boy. If they just improved the graphics, it would be just a remaster. Take a look at Mafia remake. They changed many things but kept the spirit of the original and it was freaking amazing remake. I'm sure it will be the same here. They will change a lot but many things will stay the same and we will have a balanced new experience.

TBH "the original will always be there" would be a better argument if modern consoles would support those older games, but those aren't really available digitally outside of illegal emulation. (The same with Persona 3 etc.)
Edit: And funny enough I was listening this video while playing Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age that's a HD remaster of the PS2 game, but it's quite different from the original FFXII, having based on FXII: The Zodiac Job System or something like that. The original FFXII is nigh impossible to play in its original state outside of an old physical game on even older PS2 (and emulation, of course).
Yeah they do need to preserve these classics better but there's plenty of ways to play 2 right now.

I think most true og fans are actually excited for this actually and are pissed because if this is how people react to the return of the franchise it'll probably be the only one. We'd like to see 1 through 4 or at least 2,3 and 4 given this level of remake
I think the game looks great so far, though lip syncing and character animations during gameplay dont look finished, they just don't, but we have until october to find out if that gets fixed
The whole thing about hating on female characters for not being attractive enough is something that you probably dont get because you aren't American. In American culture, objectifying women is a bigger problem than in other western countries. Its this idea that a female shouldn't be in a movie or a game unless she looks dolled up for male viewers. Even though having the females wearing a bunch of makeup or wearing skimpy clothes seems impractical for the character. Just so you know, its just a few loud misogynist dudes complaining that female characters aren't being dedicated to the 'male-gaze' anymore. I find men from other western countries seem to prefer more genuine looking women in the games. And as a woman, I definitely prefer women to be presented as more than just eye candy for the viewer. Its honestly patronizing to see women characters portrayed to look like adult film stars in every game. And it makes it hard to take them seriously as a character when their character is mostly concerned with looking hot. you know? It is reductive. Its dumb.
If the only way you can accept a female character in a game is if she is hot, ..that anytime a female is not attractive it "ruins the game" for you, ..then you need to do some serious evaluation on your life.
I generally agree with your point, but here Maria's outfit is an illusion created by James mind. The fact that a developer can't show a female belly scares me more than silent hill.
And exactly this kind of attitude and downtalk, how a "real" woman has to look like, brought this backlash. That's why Stellar Blade excelled and SH 2 and others fail. Just beeing close to DEI or trying to message any of it, is the kiss off death. Most fans don't want to buy some political message and so one studio after studio fails in search off the legendary "modern" audience. By the way this uglification hits only the females, the dudes stay hot, if that isn't intentional, I don't know.

Note, I didn't call them fans, because people who act like crappy humans don't deserve the title of "Silent Hill fan". They are the minority I feel, and this new gameplay reveal has really turned MANY people around! They can't please everyone, but they are doing a good job at pleasing the majority of open-minded fans for sure.
Personally only SOME animations lack polishment for me, that being the transition from walking to running, and the meele attack with an enemy on the ground. Aside from this, everything else looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEUS.
All of these haters are definitely a pain in the ass to deal with, they see ONE thing out of place, and they just trash the whole game, completely ignoring all the good stuff the developers managed to give us, like astonishing and expanded scenarios, god like atmosphere, great voice acting, gorgeus cinematics, EVEN IN-GAME DETAILS like James actually drinking the healthy drink or applying the steroids, and even doodling the map in real time! His model interaction with the environment is just insane!
Yes, i do think Angela's face could get a little bit of a rework just like they did with James, but dude, comparing it with PS2 or PS3 is just way too much. Absolutely. It probably is amazing and should get overwhelmingly positive if it’s good but silent hill fans will review bomb it because of something little like a certain character design. The nurses are no longer sexualized and I hear some people are freaking out because of the lore. In RE4 remake they made Ada Wong less sexualized and nobody cared, So they are just being fussy. This looks good and Bloober team is independent so you can’t expect it to look as good as RE.

That sounds awesome. A better dive into the other world. I love the difficulty options and as far as encounter with first creature, I wished it was at the same spot like the original.
I’ve come to realise recently that all the usual channels I watch and agree with are shitting on this game, but this time I disagree with them. It looks amazing and although Marie should be more sexy, we haven’t seen any of her flirty scenes yet so it’s hard to judge. Also Angela shouldn’t be hot as she’s an anxious abuse victim. I think she looks perfect. Can’t wait for this game!
I am a Silent Hill fan, but I'm also not terminally online, so I think I tend to be more of a reasonable person lol. My main issues with the remake early on was with Bloober Team working on the project and wondering if they might screw up the story somehow. Like it could be fine if they stick to the original game's story and not try to change it up a lot. But yeah, I've had my concerns... until the 13 minute gameplay video. I was actually really impressed with what I saw and now I have hope this will be good. Seeing the Angela redesign did throw me off for a second. But she's like 17 and now she actually looks her age. In the original she looked like she was in her late 20s. I chalked that up to her having such a hard life, to say the least, aging her greatly. It was kind of a visual representation of her heavy burdens. So people complaining that the 17 year old traumatized victim isn't hot anymore need their brains checked for worms.
Also, the dudes, cause I know it's all dudes, calling Angela fat, I'd like to see pictures of how they all look. Are they slim and trim? Hunks of eye candy themselves? Or pudgy with a bit of a gut like me?
This has always been an uber toxic abusive community. It was like this back when SH4 came out I remember the gamespot forums had resident trolls always complaining about it. So I'm pretty sure they'll pre-hate everything, doesn't matter which devs get the license and it doesn't matter what the trailers look like. A lot of the toxic fans more or less admit they'll be against anything not made by the original team silent, as if the only thing they'll approve would require a time machine to achieve.

So many people are quick to judge a product that isnt even finished yet, it's maddening. Beta footage is never going to look like the finished result. But you see it all the time, no matter what it is people are so quick to jump on something and hate it. Why not actually play the game first before you judge it. I think the environments are really beautiful but i am not a fan of what they've done with maria. Im not a fan of her new design however from the gameplay trailer the model just looks bad quality. Lauras model look perfect so I feel like they dropped the ball with angela and maria. The combat is okay but it was never the main draw of the original either. The music is also perfect as expexted from akira yamaoka
I think it's sensible with the approach they took when dealing with Angela's character. I don't need to write an essay that explains why.

I don't have a problem with Angela, her character was supposed to be young. But Maria's face... her original design was so important to me personally. When I see her og model (CG) she just embodies the atmosphere of SH2. There's other arguments with legitimacy beyond what you're mentioning here. Beyond nostalgia, I think the designs are just uninspired, and I don't have to be crazy or a hater to think so.
There is so much good in what they showed but damn why fuck up on something so important to the soul of the story.

Those who keep bitching about the differences of the remake usually are not real fans. Their covers broke when they showed their overly concerns on only vanity over the actual game context itself. Every single video they posted regarding the remake is either calling Angela fat or ugly, there is almost no intelligent and professional insights about the game. It’s very apparent that those people on TH-cam are just looking for clicks and views, nothing more.
The environments are spot on awesome! The creature sound design is way off. James's behavior when being introduced to the first creatures is not as authentic as the original. The creature animations are pretty good. The classic SH creepiness in the interiors are off, as there is no visual noise filter to give it that creepy edge. And, some of the character faces are very odd, like Maria, looks like she got stung by a bunch of bees.
I appreciate the effort overall as a long time fan. I'll probably buy this when it comes out if the details are not too far off as I look as these sneak previews.
About fans. I think it's strange to blame fans for wanting what is promised. If you're a fan of cheese burgers, you buy one, and you get two pieces of paper with a burger in between, fans have reason to complain. Not saying this is what SH 2 the remake is, but there are some things that are off, that used to be core features of the original game. Like the creature sound design.
If we're listening to the fandom, EVERY details are "core features" you guys just can't handle changes...

Between saying a victim of SA is not attractive to them, or "what's with the rock music playing in that trailer?" I give no attention to these people. Part of being a SH fan(and I'm one since the first game) is staying as far as you can from the fandom. I got the deluxe digital and a physical copy pre ordered and will even buy one for a friend whose birthday is around the release date. Fuck them haters.

I’ve always been a hardcore fan since SH2 and personally I can’t see anything wrong with it so far. Looks great In my eyes, I absolutely HATE how whiny the community are.
Silent hill and resident evil fans are the worse fans in gaming. They are never happy. on the other hand, I can’t wait to play this. I’m very excited my only problem is I hope the story isn’t too short. I’m hoping it’s at least 10 hours long.
Yes I would like an extended story myself and RE fan base is one of the most toxic things I've come across. It's why I've not covered the games on my channel as of yet.

About Maria's less skimpier design, I don't think that has anything to do with needing her to be sexy for the player. I personally don't mind the change, however, I know for a fact that this is an obvious case of unneeded censorship. The town is preying on his desires, and Maria dresses herself to provocate. Making it subtler only goes against the intended narrative plot point.
Are there reasons you can come up? Sure, of course. But that's already a deviation, and saying stuff like
"Maybe it's sexy for James" (His character was not changed significantly enough from original for it to qualify the need to make her look less sexy)
"Maybe she will look closer to the original" (That's baseless conjecture)
And more would be playing defense for the sake of it.
Bloober Team was clearly asked to show less skin by Sony or other company, and that's it.

People love to complain since negativity is like a drug. I get being critical and wanting a game to be good but basing whether you'll play or not from how a character looks as really childish. To me, as long as they look like humans, theyre good, and even if character appearance wasnt a problem, theyd find something else to complain about. As a long time fan im super excited for this and hope it does well for them to remake the others, especially 4 which is my favorite.

I must admit that I had a knee jerk reaction to this and got sucked into a couple of the hating videos.
I've had a couple of days to calm down and I'm now cautiously optimistic. The environments look great. I don't have an issue with the change to Angela but I do think the model looks a little rough and not as finished as the others.
I'm worried about Maria as the way she looked was important to the story and I worry they'll change the story around it.
I do like your idea that she will evolve as the game goes on. I have the original PS discs for SH 1 -4 so can always play them. I'm happy to wait and see now.

Questions and criticism is fine, I encourage it, like I said in the video. Constantly complaining on Twitter over every facet of a game is sad. Play the original if the remake isn't to your standards or tastes.
Whenever I see a remake it reminds me of the verb "Ship of Theseus", does repairing one part of a ship still make it the same ship as before? I see how the remake does, but to me Bloober just wanted to pay respect to the OG Silent Hill 2. With KCET gone we no longer see any other remake with the Silent Hill franchise, but with all the hate especially to the fans of SH, It's just too much.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that statement, we will have the original and the remake, people can chose which they prefer.
The new game looks really good. It captures the atmosphere super well and the voice acting/facial animations are superb.
Sadly no one hates silent hill more than silent hill fans. Team silent could comeback together to make a new SH and SH fans would still crap all over it

Silent Hill 2 remake is just the cool thing to hate on. Sure there are thing that clearly need to improve but people are overreacting, plus it's Blooper not Rockstar so giving the devs feedback is good but don't expect a rockstar level game from Blooper.

well, i do have something against how they changed maria's clothing, since it's **SPOILERS**
its james' favorite dress when mary wasnt sick, maria's outfit, mood outbursts, and seductive talk have a massive connection to the final andmost pivotal plot point in james' character.
thats about all im gonna say about the subject, wether you think its "weird" or not to argue that is irrelevant. other than that, im actually really impressed by the trailer, it looks fantastic and almost perfectly portrays the OG's feel, the sound track is sublime and weird silent hill-y sound effects are superb, the melee combat could use some work but ill reserve judgement till release (its not like the OG's melee combat was good to begin with, it was dogshit), and literally just a couple of animations need some polish, thats it.
the complaints coming out of the fandom are absurd, idiotic, thoughtless and purely emotional without an ounce of thought put into it, it is, as you say, a hate boner at best. as a long time silent hill fan (played the first one the week it came out), i am really looking forward to playing this, SH2 was my depressing comfort game, it means alot to me, and to see it treated with such care by a team that probably dont even have half of capcom's resources and staff, i am really thankful that its getting made with such care and detail, and any SH fanboy clown that says otherwise about the teams passion towards this game can suck a fat one and go eff himself.

Pawn it off? There's no team silent anymore and they're not going to hand the license to a rival. These devs picks are as good as we were ever going to get. Personally I would have made the same choices after enjoying The Medium, Observation and Resistance. Capcom does really over the top action horror games that wouldn't gel with SH's vibe anyway.

I think people are being overly critical of this game. Angela is not some supermodel running around in the zombie apocalypse. She's not Jill Valentine or Claire Redfield, and this is not Resident Evil. She's a timid, shy woman with a horribly tragic backstory. When has anyone ever said Angela is a smoke show! I'd sure like to tap that!? Never! It's bad when the fans look like stupid assholes, and the SJW game developers look more reasonable.
Maria, however, is a completely different story. She's supposed to look like a prostitute, that's who everybody should be bitching about, not weirdo Angela.
As for gameplay. Again, this isn't Resident Evil 4. When has Silent Hill ever had great gameplay? It just needs to be playable and not broken.
What I'm actually more worried about is the Western Developers. I don't know why Konami keeps handing the Silent Hill IP to them? They never made a good Silent Hill game. I would have gotten as many team Silent members together as I could and handed it off to a Japanese team. The Western games didn't translate the horror and dread the original 4 games had.

Give Mary boots and crop her cardigan and it's exactly the same.
And this is the point, yes she is supposed to be a sexier version.
But it's not just Mary in sexier clothing.
I wouldn't even say Maria's clothes would be classified as "Dressing Sexy" it's a pretty casual look.
But compared to Mary it's a more youthful, carefree look but resembles her look so closely enough to be even more familiar to James without seeing her face.
In the fog when he first sees Maria, that familiar silhouette makes him think it's Mary up until he gets close she turns around and he gets a better look.
This doesn't work now, the familiarity isn't there.
When he's near her the subtle differences that play into his lust is tormenting him.
There is a reason for details and I get it, Not everyone saw it or cares

People are annoyed because the people making it obvious did not see it and if they didn't see it then don't understand it which they should if they making it.

I completely agree with you! It's ok to critique, but these "fans" aren't even doing that. They're just reaching and looking for stupid little things to trash the game for being "woke", but I didn't get that impression at all from the clips and gameplay. Of course, the game needs some polishing here and there, but overall it looks like a love letter to the true fans of the franchise. I can't wait to play it!

A weird thing happened. The Silent Hill subreddit was very divided about the Remake, it was the place I saw the most complaints about. Then the recent trailers dropped, and everyone in the sub is at peace and now collectively hating on the political TH-camrs calling the game woke 😂

I don't understand that, if you're a fan of the original game why would you be ok with fundamental changes being made to the remake that betray the overall experience of the original? Why would you be ok with them having a new writing staff specifically tasked with "adapting" Silent Hill 2 for "modern audiences" which implies you're no longer the audience they're targeting and who seriously presumes they can deliver something better than the game you love which is the whole reason the name and brand is marketable in the first place.
Let's see, i'll at least watch some lets plays before i make up my mind fully but i'm not at all happy with what i'm seeing and have no idea how a fan of the original could be tbh.
It's not even just angela, it's the lack of ambience, the lack of fog, that weird picture of Maria all cutesy as opposed to sexy and with a weird meek and submissive facial expression almost like an asset flip of Claire from Resident Evil 2. It's all just weird and out of character. It's not even like it's the same thing anymore and more akin to a Silent Hill 2 mod of Resident Evil 2 than an actual remake of the original experience of Silent Hill 2.
So again how people who are supposedly fans of the original are ok with what they're seeing is beyond me unless they played a totally different game than i did.
I don't want remakes that betray the original experience, i want future generations to experience it the way it was in it's pure form, not a modified version that differs fundamentally from the original experience, most people presume remakes to supplant the original, if you keep current-daying them then they don't and we have a problem then, maybe do less remakes and more remasters then because that's what i'd prefer. The reason you're hoping to make money on it is because it was fine the way it was and already has a legion of fans, it doesn't need fundamental updating or changing.
The way i see it anyone who's defending it, is more in denial of what they're seeing than anything, it's more of a faith based defense than objectively based on what they're seeing and i've seen people argue that even if it does suck that we should buy it anyways to encourage Konami to bring back Silent Hill, problem is, if it sucks i don't want them to bastardize Silent Hill anymore, i prefer if there's no more than crap releases that just keep destroying it's legacy further, just leave it alone then and wait for the fans to produce remasters and texture HD packs.
Same with Metal Gear. After Survive i'm not sure i want Konami in charge of it anymore and any releases they make will simply drag the franchise through the mud and i don't want that, i'm not interested in something i love being sold to younger generations as a really inferior and crappy blurry mirage of what i experienced

Maria design is basically the same thing, she is supposed to be everything that Mary is not.
