She really is a queen just called Princess. My guess is that she refused to take the title Queen because of past dictators. The real life reason was because they thought Princess toys would sell better than Queen.
@@rollingthunder1043 yeah, Disney made lots of little girls want to be princess, so princess things sell better than queen things. Ofc some of their princesses become queens, like Elsa. That doesn't stop them from marketing them as princesses.
I must admit I find it kind of amusing just how popular this song seems to be in the MLP fandom, given that it's originally about a fairly brutal high fantasy setting where people really do get killed and tortured in all manner of awful ways, where the people the reigning monarch sends out to do stuff really do often die in the line of duty. I mean, I do see why people in MLP fandom think it fits Celestia, and I have no objection to that, but it still is kind of funny to me, taking a song originally relating to a character who rose to throne very young after her father's death in battle, made a pretty bad mistake in choosing a husband and ended up with a man who tried to assassinate her (and was killed in the attempt), and decades later ended up having to lead her kingdom in another war, which was sparked by an evil king of a country they were supposedly neutral/sort of allied with capturing two of the Queen's friends sent as diplomats there, killing one and torturing the other within an inch of her life to the point she attempted suicide and very nearly succeeded... but yeah let's put a picture of Celestia from a far less violent children's show together with the song, that fits too
Yeah, the Valdemar series in its entirety doesn't exactly shy away from the gritty stuff. The irony of MLP fandom adopting song is not lost on me, but you have to admit it fits in a strange sort of way...
Sort of. You can technically abdicate, but it's not usually a good option unless facing dishonour or some other reason that you cannot perform your duties as ruler.
This song is an addition to the writers books. It has their own worldbuilding and rules for the royalty. They cant become rules unless they are chosen to be one, once they are they are bound. The book series is called Heralds of Valdemar.
Aside from the specifics of the universe where it might be more literally true (I've only started but their universe does seem keen on magical lifetime bonds), in any world: would it be any better if the choices are made by someone else, knowing they are only there because of your choice? Any mistake they make is also your mistake.
The point is the terrible weight of Duty and Responsibility. As long as your people need you, abandoning them by abdicating would be just as bad as any other of the ways you might fail them. What does it matter if you technically can, when you morally can't?
The line "The dearest are my Heralds" employs a subtle pun: "dear" means both "loved" and "expensive".
Can we just talk that Celestia looks so queen-like?

@@TheRealBellatrixLestrange Curse Disney for setting up the "Queens evil! Princesses gud!" stereotype.
