No problem, good question. I left the return filtration on just as another fuel filter. It doesn’t hurt anything, and even though it doesn’t serve the purpose now of catching metal produced by the pump on failure, it can help to purify the fuel returning to the tank.
I need a dcr kit for my 21 6.7 how much if the whole kit? I didn’t know about aftermarket filter kit that had to be installed to stop a bigger problem until I have the problem.
Would it be excessive to replace parts like the vacuum pump or other bits other than the required gaskets while taking it apart to the extent required to replace the pump? Or is that just spending extra money?
I'm gonna put a Mishimoto radiator and intercooler in this spring. That's going to encompass removing a lot of the parts in front of the engine. Ive seen a lot of your videos for the 6.7 and all the parts that should be changed and ir upgraded to prevent all these known failures. How can i contact you all to determine prices of install and parts?
My new F250 Platinum should be here in a week or two. This is my first diesel truck and the most expensive vehicle i have ever purchased. I am pretty handy and have rebuilt a few gas engines and built a few hot rods over the yers. I was under the impression that just doing regular fule filter changes would be enough to extend the life the CP4 pump. After watching a few videos on the DCR pump I am not so confident now. Should i just do the DCR upgrade right away? Or at least the disater kit you mentioned? I was going to tint the windows first. LOL. But this seems more important.
Surely it will make it long enough to tint the windows first, you cant be riding around in a coke bottle! Congrats on your new truck. I think it will come into question on the new new trucks out there are you willing to potentially void your warranty with installing a DCR? Although they shouldn’t do it, a dealership could very well black label you for it. While in warranty, keep your fuel filters changed, use good fresh fuel and consider doing the disaster prevention kit.
Use the Motorcraft cetane booster at every fill up. It has a lubricity additive that helps prolong the life of the cp4. I just completed the DCR conversion today and my cp4 lasted 150k miles without failing. I truly believe the cetane booster is the reason it never failed. I plan to continue using it with the DCR. Also, don’t ever “upgrade” the plastic factory fuel filters with steel ones. When water gets in your fuel the steel filters will rust. The plastic factory filters can’t rust!
So, if the alignment hashes are not aligned on the out going CP4 Pump when you take off the vacuum cover. Do you use the CP4 bolt to rotate the engine over until they are aligned?
Both required input pressure and output pressure of the injection pump is the same. Keeping these inputs and outputs the same are the reason this kit is offered with no tuning required.
So my pump gear is 180* out. The single line on the cam gear is where it’s supposed to be, but the 2 lines on the fuel pump gear are at the top. When re-installing do I put it back in this way or correct it? It’s on a 2011 F-250.
Did you just turn the pump gear clockwise until those notches aligned perfect at the 6:00/12:00 o'clock mark? What exactly was the process of doung that?
HELP, I have a deleted 2020 F250 Powerstroke. I installed the DCR fuel pump. Everything back together. Truck starts and runs, but the turbo does not do anything. Turbo boost just sits a zero. Any idea on what I did or did not do???
Hey question to you all What if I have a shavings in the system do I change the injectors and the rails and all the lines all together and if course fuel tank has to be drained and flushed and how about the pump in the tank ?
Warranty can be voided by the dealer for any installation of an aftermarket product, however the Magnuson act protects us from vehicle warranty being denied for the installation of a product that cannot be proven to cause the failure.
Great vid will be ordering this system from yall in next few months. Concerning putting it all back together and then testing for leaks, once you get all the lines hooked back up can you just energize the lift pump for low pressure side if there are any leaks at that point you wont have to tear it all back apart. For the high side no other option but to have truck buttoned back up for that pressure test. Just a thought.
Was half way through my install today. in the video it said to route the DCR driver side fuel supply line under the turbo coolant line but it seem like it didn’t fit right when I put it under but fit perfectly if it was over the turbo coolant line. Is this okay or do I have to keep it under the turbo coolant line???
I am F250. almost ever thing is different. I am stuck. can not get the electrical connector off of the fan clutch. I pulled out the white tab, but still will not come off. Is there a 2020+ video?
Honestly it’s really just a luck of the draw. Just keep in your mind. Fuel additives with increased lubricant Good fuel stations (high volume) Change them fuel filters You do this and you are good to go. Lots of folks get 200k out of a pump. With that being said though you can get a nasty batch of fuel and it just destroys the pump.
Everything @@ck3561 is 100% spot on with luck of the draw! The problem with this pump is not the failure of the pump. It’s the resulting damage if it does fail.
Great install guys! Idk if I would have put loctite on the vacuum pump bolts because the front cover is aluminum. I just never trusted loctite for those bolts, because if it breaks off in the front cover it would be a nightmare to drill out.
During the DCR validation testing for 2011-2019 model years, S&S did not find a benefit to timing the DCR pump to the engine. However, for 2020+ model years there is a small NVH benefit to timing the pump specifically when the ECM commands a certain rail pressure control mode at light engine load. For this reason and to retain product commonality across the model years, S&S recommends to time the DCR on all model years according to the S&S installation instructions. A future change to the DCR pump in Q4 2023 will add a roll pin to the pump shaft at which point the timing process will match the OEM Ford CP4 timing procedure for all model years.
Doom and gloom aside, what is the actual failure rate of the CP4 percentage wise? Does anyone actually know or is everyone on the internet just blindly feeding off the fears of a few actual documented failures?
We don’t get the platform wide failure numbers, however it was great enough for two companies to (Dodge and GM) to stop using CP4’s. They can argue all the “this isn't as bad as it seems” that they want, fact remains, when these pumps do fail, send their failures downstream to the rest of your high side components. Gets expensive.
One site claimed the CP3 had a 1% failure rate and the CP4 had a 7% failure rate due to how the fuel flows as lubrication first and then as fuel to be consumed by the motor. With only 3k of these DCR pumps out there, anyone installing this is a test mule.

Ours was pretty quiet. Did you time yours? Curious if that is contributing to the sound.
@@thoroughbreddiesel yeah I did time it mildly confused about what it is a couple thousand miles on it already and still making the sound but everything is working properly might pull out and retime
Ive seen a lot of your videos for the 6.7 and all the parts that should be changed and ir upgraded to prevent all these known failures. How can i contact you all to determine prices of install and parts?
We only sell the parts, call us 859-737-4966.
So did you manually turn the crankshaft till the timing marks were too dead center?
Yes.
Thanks guys great video
Our pleasure!
Crazy that i buy a $90,000 truck and need to mod it to work properly is beyond me...
So, if the alignment hashes are not aligned on the out going CP4 Pump when you take off the vacuum cover. Do you use the CP4 bolt to rotate the engine over until they are aligned?
The vacuum pump is easily turned to get the needed fitment.
@@thoroughbreddiesel Thank You
You're welcome.
Is there a fuel preassure difference between the cp4 and dcr ?
Both required input pressure and output pressure of the injection pump is the same. Keeping these inputs and outputs the same are the reason this kit is offered with no tuning required.
Good morning, where you have the workshop, to be able to do that work with you or where you can buy all the parts that are needed.
We don't service public vehicles. You can order from our website or call us.
What happens to the disaster prevention line on the metering valve that was on the old cp4 that ties into the fuel filter?
The metering unit line will not be used, but you can retain the return filtration.
would this be the same for a 2020 6.7??
Yes
The hose you are speaking of at 18:52 I broke it on mine. I need to buy this hose. Where do I find it? What do I look for?
Give us a call 866-941-9688.
Yes. I turned the motor over and lined up my marks turning the pump over by the nut before I remove the pump nut.
HELP, I have a deleted 2020 F250 Powerstroke. I installed the DCR fuel pump. Everything back together. Truck starts and runs, but the turbo does not do anything. Turbo boost just sits a zero. Any idea on what I did or did not do???
Hey question to you all
What if I have a shavings in the system do I change the injectors and the rails and all the lines all together and if course fuel tank has to be drained and flushed and how about the pump in the tank ?
Yes, yes, yes and yes. The lift pump will need to be replaced too and not enough people consider that in the system.
So is it just a drop in pump it doesn’t require a tune?
No tuning required!
Can the disaster kit be removed
Yes. You can leave the return filter in play if you choose.
@@thoroughbreddiesel thank you for getting back to me
Does S&S recommend using fuel additives to combat pur low sulphur, low lubricity fuel?
Fuel additive or anything to increase lubricity is suggested.
I installed my DCR pump, but now it cranks with no start. There's diesel in the lines. Not sure what to do next. Any advice?
What is the reason you were installing a DCR? Will the truck make rail pressure? Give us a call and we can help 859-737-4966.
What is the lifespan of this pum in milage or hours
Depends on fuel quality.
Does replacing the cp4 pump void your warranty from ford?
Warranty can be voided by the dealer for any installation of an aftermarket product, however the Magnuson act protects us from vehicle warranty being denied for the installation of a product that cannot be proven to cause the failure.
Would it be easier to pull the cab wanting to get one for my new high output 23 powerstroke
Other than the one bolt you have leave in the plenum the cab doesn’t really get in the way of this install.
What percentage just fail, without evidence of water, gas or def in fuel?
Great vid will be ordering this system from yall in next few months. Concerning putting it all back together and then testing for leaks, once you get all the lines hooked back up can you just energize the lift pump for low pressure side if there are any leaks at that point you wont have to tear it all back apart. For the high side no other option but to have truck buttoned back up for that pressure test. Just a thought.
Wade does that at the end of the video.
Was half way through my install today. in the video it said to route the DCR driver side fuel supply line under the turbo coolant line but it seem like it didn’t fit right when I put it under but fit perfectly if it was over the turbo coolant line. Is this okay or do I have to keep it under the turbo coolant line???
Did it work out, I just bought one today going to install tomorrow
If it fits over the line and isn't making contact, that’s the way It should go. I will review that part of the video.
Want one???? Better order quick, they're going fast!!!!

I am F250. almost ever thing is different. I am stuck. can not get the electrical connector off of the fan clutch. I pulled out the white tab, but still will not come off. Is there a 2020+ video?
Not yet.
Do you install this pump for customers?
No longer, sorry.
on your website it says 2011-2019 are the 2020 not available yet?
Soon! Give us a call on an update 866-380-3068.
Will this fit on a 2022?
Not yet, but soon.
how many hours should a shop charge for this?
just finished the video and saw that its 5-6 hours. great video thanks for sharing!
You're welcome!
How much for a2020 ?
Give us a call 859-737-4966.
I bet the vacuum pump bolts were loose lol. Mine were loose causing a huge mess
If they were we caught it on the DPK install
Why can’t this part be shipped to California?
Emission laws.
I thought it said it was emissions compliant? So if I install this in california it won't pass smog ?
What would a labor charge be on installing one of these?
We're guessing about 6-8 labor hours right now
Well yours went well, mine not so much.
Sorry to hear that.
Excellent vid
Thanks!
Done! 2015 , took 16 hours!!! Lol.
Glad you got it done.
@thoroughbreddiesel thanks! I do still have a misfire once in a while, will be looking to change the fuel pressure control valve now
Won’t ship to California!
That crankcase filter swollen like a pregnant ladies ankles
😂😂😂
how often do the cp4
fail??
Enough to where I’d spend $2000 in preventative vs $10-15k in repairs because of one failing…
Honestly it’s really just a luck of the draw. Just keep in your mind.
Fuel additives with increased lubricant
Good fuel stations (high volume)
Change them fuel filters
You do this and you are good to go.
@@christiandavis3910 and labor?
@@johnfinn2638 $1000-$1200.
What a pain I think I’ll just have my 250 stolen😂
Great install guys! Idk if I would have put loctite on the vacuum pump bolts because the front cover is aluminum.
I just never trusted loctite for those bolts, because if it breaks off in the front cover it would be a nightmare to drill out.
Everybody's gonna sew him. Let him finish sewing them. The lawsuits and process everybody's gonna get paid to have them. Change out their pumps.
That is a 2020 F250
I called s&s and they told me u don't have to time the pump
Wade says that in the video
My cp4 pump just went out and damaged my entire fuel system over the weekend kind of hard to put aside doom and gloom when this happens to you.
Mine as well, I’m looking at close to $9k in parks & for a shop to repair.
One site claimed the CP3 had a 1% failure rate and the CP4 had a 7% failure rate due to how the fuel flows as lubrication first and then as fuel to be consumed by the motor.
With only 3k of these DCR pumps out there, anyone installing this is a test mule.
👍🏻
I just had my DCR put in my 2011 F350 it seems I here a little docking sound 🤷🏼♂️ not sure if that’s normal mechanic trace the sound to the pump
Were you able to get it timed correctly?
@@thoroughbreddiesel truck is going this morning you guys sent a update for the pump a part to put load on the pump not sure 🤔 but will see if it works
It does sound a little different to me lol
