The Relum Telly had two springs and the one I saw was very powerful. The 'top hat' piston weight makes a difference, as it provides the momentum that the light piston lacks in weight. I made one from bronze for my bsa superstar, shortened the spring and hey presto!
Just found your video , someone has sold you a pair of Tornado springs an airgun produced by FEG in Hungary designed in the late fifties early sixties went through several mods over the years but the twin spring tec was never really a success. I would suggest using an appropriate Titan xs main spring and replacing the piston seal with a TX 200 seal or contact Ian at Custom air seal Australia I believe he produces a seal to fit that covers the boss on the end of the piston this will improve sealing and reduce noise not sure the piston weight needed unless you decide to go for a shorter and less powerful spring. Remember the heavier the piston the greater the felt recoil. There has been a anti grease movement for the last forty years, but the correct amount of lubricant in the right places can work wonders for recoil and smooth shooting.
Good video and thanks to people like you doing these things it helps us all and saves us waisting money on useless ideas .I try to watch all your videos and I always enjoy them keep up the good work and thanks again
The best springs have fewer coils and come in more compressed, they are faster and more effective, I have even seen titanium which makes them much faster. 😮
Don't change anything as long as it works - and your "original" setup worked EXCELLENTLY, provided that trigger is smooth and predictable. And that amount of power (sub 20 J) is IDEAL for an airgun of that construction and caliber.
I have a veeery cheap and primitive springer i bought used for 15 euros. In my country you can buy air rifles up to 12J energy without licences. I dont think it was making all the 12J even, what i did to get a bit more power was to dissamble it, ive "hand machined" a spacer to add between the spring and the trigger carrier to give it a tad more compression. I had to modify the the trigger because it didnt latch onto the spring catch due to the more compression. It does have a bit more recoil now, but the power definately increased. The seals are all bad and its really a shit rifle, but its much more accurate now and packs a bit better punch. Best thing, it cost me like 5cent nut that i grounded and drilled to fit the guide.
The kit works, there's no reason not to work. Your result is showing that. It is so powerful that it destroyed the seal while dry firing the gun. Never dry fire Dummy!
I think you left out the plastic cylinder that should have been installed between the larger spring and the trigger body. I see that the plastic guide shortened the inner spring and the outer one remained longer. It has happened to me when I put a lot of grease in cilinder, my projectile speed drops, especially with Cometa airguns due to small clearances and tolerances. I personally use MoS2 long term grease and apply it in extremely small quantities and later only a drop of ballistol oil. If you want more power, install either a gas piston or a 3.5mm wire spring. That metal guide that you threw out because it stuck and caused the cylinder to jam. Take it to a master turner and cut off the hat to 2mm. It's a flywheel that gets constant speed without variation, but you'll get a bit more recoil.
One of those kits frome ebay with green syringes I take it? Did you try running it with the factory seals? Because those "high performance seals" are absolute garbage. More recoil with less power often indicates a leak. Maybe also try to turn the inner spring around. Then again it could also be that the internal friction of the spring assembly bottle necks the entire assembly. I got one of those kits a while back and didnt have any luck either.
Hello my friend, I'm just beginning my journey, trying to rid my spring air rifles of twang and buzz from the firing cycle. Quite often, I buy things that don't work. Sometimes, I have to go back into the rifle for something and nothing or a minor adjustment. I'd say this is trial and error, and sometimes the gains you see are hard the envisage. Your video was great, just to be amongst fellow like-minded people with a common interest, knowing that not everything they try and do will work out. It's just nice, having a go, and when an idea works, it's great! Thank you.
I have to wonder if you had the ability to turn down the top hat to fit the inside spring and remove a couple of coils off the spring what would have happened. I would measure the inside and outside coil widths and multiply my number of coils, and subtract the top hats length to the shoulder of the head to get the proper amount of coils and not be coil bound. If you follow me, it would be an great experiment. I believe you would get good results
i Think that at sometime or another we've all been there. Pain but there's a lot of dodgy guys on selling sights, one has just tried to con me luckily eBay have stepped in
All is that will achieve is more recoil and abysmal accuracy. don’t forget when you compress the spring, it gets bigger! It’s almost certainly getting entangled with the other one.👍
I think that black bushing should still be in there ,the problem may lay with the installer not the product , the spring being shorter is prabably unloading its energy too early and think about it ! The origanal spring needed that black spacer and its longer , you put in a shorter spring and took out a block that is there to compress the spring , there for resulting in a lower pressure , i think you made the mistake not the product ......
I was back a forth with the seller over many emails, did exactly as he said and the results were rubbish. Just put a high powered spring in and that seems to have worked wonders. It was just an experiment, but one that didn't work out.
Looking at what u are trying not a good idea take the right spring an on each turn put large screwdriver in a stretch them you will only a mm on each but will certainly inprove the power
Never put 2 springs in a air rifle it just get stuck with the big spring it always ends with a disaster .never do it bad idear just tack the small spring out all together your gun will be better in the long 🏃♂️ good look 👍 with it do sum research wach a lot of you tube videos be 4 you get a crap ✌ spring kit 👍👍👍👍
That was a real shame I also did a similar kit on my Webley Vulcan some years ago, I'd been in my local shop and got talking as you do with chaps as I was a complete clueless shooter back then. Guy grabs this double spring kit of the rack in it's greased up plastic bag with the words get this in you're rifle it's the dogs B******S 🦾. Got home stripped the old spring out with no problems as I'd already mended a broken spring previously so I was well versed, put new kit in buttoned everything back up cocked the rifle and dry fired it once to test and all seemed fine except the muzzle sound was distinctly lower. Next day went off to the range proud of my achievement and no smashed fingers and started to shoot, my zero had dropped by four inches I grabbed a friends chrono and the rifle had gone from 11.2 ft/lb to 9.1 ft/lb with .177 8.4 grn pellets and yes I felt a right burk but learnt a valuable lesson to not fix things that aren't broken.

Nothing ventured /nothing gained At least you tried Thanks for sharing This is how people learn , Experimentation
In my opinion the worst was buying a Gamo. Thanks for showing mate!
Thank you for honesty trace a failure wich could happens to all of us

If you have seen these double spring kits, and thought, I might give that a go. Then don't bother, utter rubbish.
Live and learn mate, nice to see you having a go though! 👋

It was just an experiment for TH-cam. The rifle is back to original now with the original spring and a trigger polish etc. Shoots well now.
I think you should put back in not only the front spring guide, but also the rear bush and rear washer.
Already done it.
@@Maddogairguns does it shoot any better?
Yeah add 2 or 3 washers. Should power it up to your required legal limit.
We have all fixed stuff that wasn't broken 😂
What about the transfer port
Great video thank you , also Maybe the piston seal is bad
Oú peut on acheter l’appareil pour comprimer et décomprimer le ressort au démontage et montage ?!?🤔
Merci

Did you check your piston for a pressure relief hole in the center?

Surprised YT didn't ban this video for the activity at 9:26 and 9:42. OBSCENE! lol
I had to have a look to remind my self, I really don't know what you mean 😂👍.
Decent high power springers are rare and are usually designed from the get-go. Piston, cylinder sizes etc.
Old HW 80 and some old English penny's is all you need for approx 25-30 ftlbs
@@ianmangham4570 what are the pennies for
@@redauwg911 preload, its something naughty people used to do , ended up shaking the guns to bits though
Just get another spring thicker one there many companies that produce spring for air gun. You might have to cut a coil or two to work right..
good jo mate ,nicely explained the idea pal
Put the original spring in side the new spring 😂 worth a try
Ma perché non vi comprate una HW 977 , e lasciate stare questi rottami?

Sounds like the same kit off ebay. I just bought a full power spring from Gamo in the end.
Was wondering if you tried stretching the springs afterwards? I might get that kit and try it if not and report back

Power is nothing without accuracy, what sort of groups are you getting at say 30 yards, ? 😁👍
its that piston top hat the extra weight slams the air out with more pressure giving you more fps.
I have to wonder if you had the ability to turn down the top hat to fit the inside spring and remove a couple of coils off the spring what would have happened. I concur, a double seating could theoretically cut down on the springs rattling against each other and against the tube 🤷🏻♂️. Theoretically 🤔
Cuz you left the top hat out, you could of put a couple of washers in to give a bit more compression maybe
I had to leave the top hat out, or the spring wouldn't compress enough to cock the gun.
After the modification, did you become stronger?
i Think that at sometime or another we've all been there. Pain but there's a lot of dodgy guys on selling sights, one has just tried to con me luckily eBay have stepped in
Les 2 ressorts se sont mélangés à l’intérieur !🥵🤫🎯
drill out your transfer report to 3.6 mm

And it's much appreciated 🙏
Well that was a waste of your new FAC!! Can you tell me what chrono you are using?
It's an LMBR R2A.
You're a cool guy. Thanks.
What if you stretch the spring a little. This helped with mu kids nerf guns😂
To much grease will slow the gun down.
Looking at what u are trying not a good idea take the right spring an on each turn put large screwdriver in a stretch them you will only a mm on each but will certainly inprove the power

There were no videos on this spring kit, which is why I made one.
U should remove the spring inside then try again
Another good video
Thanks.
u should have upgraded your piston seal that's where your power loss is Dam
If you were watching carefully, you would have heard that I had already fitted a high performance piston seal.
Someone that knows what there talking about tell us what guns are easy to rebuild for a lot more power that aren’t that expensive can anyone help ? 🙏
OK
OK👍
So waste of time 🤷♂️
