    Hi Professor,
I've been around for two years and a bit. I can't honestly remember what particular record review brought me here, but I can say with conviction that you've broadened my horizon and helped me articulate certain things that I've either experienced in reference to a specific record or in relation to my own mid-20's music death. Your description of that phenomenon really struck a nerve and I'm happy to say I've come back from the very edge and I want you to know, that you've been an important part of that.
I really appreciate the work you do and I hope you keep it up for as long as it makes sense for you to do so. I enjoy your reviews very much.
    All the best from Denmark,
    Jesper

Thanks for telling more about yourself Skye! I've been a subscriber since you had ablut 200 subs :) I must be honest, I don't watch most of your videos. That being said, the times when the band/artists reviewed intrigue me or if I have any slight connection with it I'll click on your video and happily listen to you talk. Since the beginning I've loved the informal style no cuts and frills. I really value my subscriptions, generally when there's a channel I don't watch a lot of videos of, I tend to unsubscribe, with yours I feel like I have a distant friend with whom every once in a while I can have a fruitful conversation. You mentioned you had a band many years ago, I'd love to hear about your musician journey, if you still play an instrument (the bass I suppose?) and what part does playing music have in your life. Cheers!

Just love what you are doing on this platform. It doesnt need fancy editing or an intro or a theme song or anything like that, you are not here to entertain but to lecture, give perspectives and be inspirational. And thats what you are doing in this video too.

    That's one long introduction...
The first video I watched from your channel was the debut LP of Black Country, New Road, and I loved it. The thought that you sir respectively give towards every record you review is remarkable. Simply from that, I chose to subscribe, and it's been a pleasant experience to have a perspective so open as yours. For one, I never expected you to hear of artists like Dorian or 100 gecs, but here you were, not just accepting the music, but pushing it.
One thing I would like to see from your reviews is diving deeper into an artist. I notice a great interest from the great duo: Billie Elish or Kanye West but not everyone gets the satisfying pleasure of being talked about by Professor Skye.
Regardless, I love the content and I am glad to have discovered this channel.
EDIT: I hope you review Little Simz new LP 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert'

I’m so happy you came up in my feed/recommendations. I just watch you videos in awe and go to work the following day still thinking about what you said in your videos. I’m almost 35 (coming January) and i feel like wow. Someone who actually wants to discuss the art aspect of the music. Not business. Not attention.. but the detail.. the message and perspectives. I hope you stay like this for a while. Thank you for this and you’re time!
PS: i cannot believe this entire time you have been recording on an iPhone! I love this! This makes it feel even more personal! One on one conversing.

i find fascinating the structure on every video, the way you go to one topic to another is smooth and organic, that makes it automatically interesting. but my favorite aspect is the way you build mixing all your background knowledge; you make me almost feel obligated to give my opinion in the coments, lol. btw, happy to know you're a virgo, hahaha, today is actually mi birthday.

Professor Skye, I love your genuineness and the way you approach your videos. It’s all distinctly you. I have one question for you, and it’s kind of funny, but how do you find the time to do everything that you do? You mentioned your interest in music, your interest in movies, exercising, watching TH-cam, all on top of having a full time job and a family! I’m about to graduate college soon and my biggest fear is not having enough time to do everything I want to do once I start working. How do you tackle this? And how have you been successful at this despite having so many interests, hobbies, and responsibilities?

Started watching your videos last year (the first one I saw was that Protomartyr review) and I agree with nearly everyone here: your channel's positivity really is refreshing in this landscape of flashy, (often) pretentious, hiveminded and cynical music criticism. Not to mention, the fact that you're well-read in philosophy and modern literature/art often makes your reviews quite illuminating (not just because they help me see the music in a comparatively new light - which is what I think the best reviews should do - but because they also introduce laypeople like myself to so many cool movements & ideas). You're the anti-Fantano of TH-cam music criticism in a sense, and I'm grateful for having come across your channel! Keep it up!
BTW, given that you're a fan of modern post-punk and experimental rock, I feel you'll really enjoy the album 'Deep States' by Tropical Fuck Storm (released 2.5 weeks ago). They're (one of) the best punk band(s) making music today IMO, and they sound exactly like their name.

I found your channel because of your Taylor Swift review that someone tweeted, which I’ll listen to fully when I walk the dog 😂 I love that you’re my age, from Boston, live in Ra-cha-cha (I’m from Buffalo and live outside Boston) and are happily married with teens and have a dog named Toby. Same same. Hysterical. Anyway, I also hated all modern music starting at age 25 and have basically only listened to my college-era 90s music and Taylor Swift since then. So I’m looking forward to broadening my musical horizons through your channel. I just told my 16yo yesterday that I need more music, but she basically only listens to Taylor so she’s no help. Ha. Happy Sunday!

Loved the video and subscribed. Allot of critics these days are so focused on what's not good and feeding off negativity. A fresh, new and honest perspective is definitely needed.
I dont know if you're familiar with the rapper Kendrick Lamar. Hes a more conceptual storyteller. He makes music about his upbringing being from Compton, the trappings of the music industry, racism and mental health. 'To Pimp A Butterfly' being a stand out album from him. I definitely recommend that one just for your own personal listening if you havent heard it already. I know you mostly review new music so really looking forward to his next release and hearing your thoughts if you feel moved to do so.

I enjoy your channel a lot. You definitely turned me onto Dry Cleaning's 'New Long Leg' - which is on heavy rotation for me now. I think you are a bit too forgiving sometimes on some stuff I'm not particularly sure of. For instance, I love love love Lorde's first two LPs, but 'Solar Power' is weak sauce and actually pretty poor in my view. But hey, that's me. Still, I have a question...How many times does one listen to a work to fully understand their own appreciation of it? I mean, back in the day, and still to this day, I knew instantly that The Avalanches' 'Since I left you' would be with me all my life. Also, just anytime I hear Ella Fitzgerald's voice, I can't account for the range of emotion I feel. But then, it took me a full year to get how Duke Ellington's 'Far East Suite' works and continues to work like a film you keep going back to. How do critics form a view so quickly, for the youtube viewers? Is it something you have to do? I watch a lot of them and think, 'How long have you lived with this music'? Is there a time-frame to respond? Along with you, from a different perspective, my favourite music critic on yt is 'Brad taste in Music', 'cos he reacts live to either new stuff or just revisits his feelings on stuff he already has a relationship with. Yeah, so how do critics/reviewers (and is there a difference there?) assess their own time investment? Love your work, as I've already intimated (from a bloke from blighty outside of your demographic - 57), and look forward to more. And so looking forward to Little Simz latest lp, which, as her last did, will probably teach me more about who I am from the perspective of a life I've not lived. x

I enjoy many of your vids. When you said 'I'm an old man' it stuck with me. Maybe you were only focused on your younger viewers. I'm older and luckily didn't die musically in my 20s. I even checked out your 'Donda' vid, even tho I find Ye to be offensive much of the time, but I realize he is an important voice in popular music.
I am sad that you didn't quite see Aurora. She is deeper than that early song and album you heard a while back. Try her live at Nidarosdomen cathedral or at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. Very few performers are as inspiring or connected. She's not just another 'female pop industry singer'. She cuts her own hair and makes her own clothes too (since you mentioned her look). She doesn't like the fashion industry and is focused on people rather than 'success'. She wrote her hit 'Runaway' when she was 11. Billie Eilish says she wanted to make music when she heard it.
    Congrats on your anniversary!
