  • The John Muir way, West Lothian. Running from South Queensferry under the Forth road bridge and Queensferry crossing to Blackness Castle, around Boness harbor, and under the Avon Viaduct, ending on the Avon aqueduct on the union canal. The route is teeming with nature and wildlife, from the Greater spotted woodpecker drumming on the trees, to the long-beaked Curlew, striding across the great mudflats of the Firth of Forth at low tide.
This 14-mile section forms part of the 134 mile long John Muir way that spans the width of Scotland, from Helensburgh to Dunbar.
    Full route (osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...)
If you don't fancy doing the whole route, here are some of my favorite mini walks along the way.
    Avon heritage trail Part1 (osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...)
Avon Heritage Trail Part 2 (osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...)
Blackness Castle To Hopetoun house: (osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...)
    Queensferry to Hopetoun house: (osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/r...)
    00:00 - Intro
01:09 - Queensferry to Hopetoun House Estate
    04:11 - Creatures
    06:14 - Blackness Castle
    07:26 - Blackness to Bo'ness
    09:40 - Kinneil House
    10:19 - Towards Linlithgow bridge
    10:43 - The River Avon
    11:28 - Outro
As always, thanks for watching. I really appreciate every single view and subscriber and I hope I've managed to bring a little of the outdoors in 😁
    Kris.

Good to see someone doin normal walks instead of always Munro bashing. Scotland has lots more to offer scenery wise than just the big hills. Cheers fae W Lothian! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Darren, much appreciated. If you know of any nice spots to visit, I'm always open to suggestions too. There's so many fantastic places in the Ochills and nearby, my only fear is that I'll not have time to see them all! 😄 Thanks again. Kris.

Kris, Enjoyed tagging along into an area that's I haven't visited and I'm certainly now well prepared from your excellent documentary of what can bee seen and experienced. Many thanks... not too long to wait now until we can breakout and head a bit further north for some mountain landscape. Take care... Charlie.

Thanks Charlie! It's not an area i would have thought to visit either until the restrictions but I'm glad I did now. I know, counting down the days now. I'm sure you'll have six months worth of adventure ideas planned and ready to go! 😁 Take care!

Recently discovered your videos and I'm loving them. I live in Linlithgow and at first it was strange to see walks I know so well get the full TH-cam wildernista treatment with soft background music and hushed, reverential commentary. But you're right, these places are gems and I should have been appreciating them more. We're so spoiled in Scotland that it's easy to take for granted what's on your doorstep. Lockdown helped me learn so much about my area and get a richer understanding of it.
The only really good route I know in West Lothian that you've not covered yet is over Binny Craig. There's a footpath from the Linlithgow-Dechmont road at 55.94558, -3.555087 which links through to the north side on Binny Craig (the west side is a wonderful little nature reserve) and you can continue over and down to Uphall. You can finish there but I prefer to continue through the lovely new woodland on the north side of Uphall and Broxburn all the way to the B8020. From there it's a short walk to the canal. And from Uphall there's a good link to the Shale Trail. If you're comfortable walking in fields of cattle you can actually walk all the way from Linlithgow via Beecraigs, following the fenceline over the Riccarton Hills and through the Longmuir plantation.
Whatever you choose to do, keep them coming!

Thanks for all the info Gordon! I know what you mean. I hadn't explored half of what was on my doorstep until lockdown.
I'll definitely check out that Binny Craig route, I've been looking for a walk to include it. I'm sure there are plenty of gems still hidden nearby to find!
      Thanks again, Kris.

Amazing filming kris have you walked the whole John Muir way? Certainly that wee stretch looks great. Loved the views of the bridges used to love seeing them crossing the Forth en route to our 4 times annual holiday in Anstruther.

Cheers Peter! I haven't yet no. I think the thing that concerns me about it is finding somewhere to camp along it. Doesn't feel like there will be may remote little spots to pitch up like the west Highland way, I could be mistaken though! 😄 Hope you have some adventures planned for the big breakout! 😁
