I can relate to this guy’s take on giving up booze. I’ve been sober for a little over two years and and honestly can’t believe how amazing the change has been. Literally every aspect of my life has improved. My only regret is not giving it up earlier in life. I’d give almost anything to have those wasted weekends back to actually live! Great video - keep up the good work!

I stopped drinking 5 years ago. Best decision of my life. So much has changed. There is nothing good about alcohol. I think drinkers are made uncomfortable by non drinkers because they secretly know it would be better to stop. To drink is to conform to an alcohol-centric world view. To stop is to save money, pounds, and sanity. Great video.

I told my friends and family recently that I’m going to give up drinking for good a few days ago and I was surprised at all the negative comments! Really close friends saying that I will fail after a few weeks and that I will become boring and that I should drink in moderation. I gave up drinking for 7 months last year and only started drinking again because of peer pressure because it was December and I needed to celebrate coming out of lockdown etc. I will be giving up drinking again but this time I will be wiser to who I will be hanging out with and listening too. Great video and really opened my eyes to the truth about quitting the drug!!

    • @Felu
      @Felu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It is crazy how triggered people get when someone tries to do something good. They feel super uncomfortable. But it's honestly just the reflection of their own insecurity. I totally can understand that you feel pressured. Always keep your end goal in mind when it gets hard. You are trying to become a better person and nobody should try to stop you. Stay strong!

Almost 4.5 years sober here. Absolutely life changing. It opened my mind enough to realize what was broken and finally drove me to Therapy after 4 years last December because so much was wrong. You can't see your true self when you are drinking, and being sober helps you to see and understand yourself so that you can do the work thats needed. Great video Felu. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing. I started healthy cooking with your videos, and your videos were the ones that turned my diet into a full-blown life change on what I consume. Wise words, well said. Everything you have said is 100% right. Fifteen years ago I was 110 kilos. After a divorce I stopped drinking and began a much healthier life style. My weight dropped to 77 kilos. Like you, I became a bit of a health freak. I never wake up feeling lathargic. And I haven't missed alcohol in the slightest. Ultimately, people have to be honest with themselves.
Good luck to you and take care.

That happened to me too early in 2013. I returned to it socially after a during a difficult spell in the last year of marriage and then after the divorce and it bit me hard. I quit again and this time I see the fire I was playing with and the destruction that was coming in my life. I'm not drinking anymore and very happy about that decision. It has no power over me only by the grace of God.

@@offshoretinker It was at the end of heavy drinking during the night, I was visiting my Cousin in Latvia. Going to bed I fell, and missed hitting the corner of the desk in the bedroom with my head by six inches. I'm 6'4" and at the time well over 250 lbs. It wouldn't have been pretty. I was on the floor and thinking what did I break? I was in a third world country of somewhat dubious health care. The next morning I discovered that I only had a black and blue around my belt area where my body first hit the floor. I attributed this totally as a miracle of God, Jesus Christ then cut off my urge to drink any alcohol. I cannot explain it any other way, And I have not drank since. Prior to that epiphany I loved my vodka, scotch, bourbon, cognac, beer, wine, it didn't matter I drank everything and enjoyed it. You could ask my family and friends and they would attest to the before Eriks and the after Eriks and are amazed that it (the urge to drink) could be cut as if by a knife the "Gorgonian knot" of alcoholism. The denial, the fairy tale that I can function despite being under the influence, or suffering the pangs of a dreadful hangover, or just the day to day habit of imbibing.
I pray that Jesus will do the same for you.

Excellent video. I think your number 10 point could be summed up like this. If you are drinking alcohol, you are trying to solve an internal problem with an external solution. That never works. Look inside yourself and be at peace with where you are and the person that you are. You don’t need alcohol to mask anything. You are good enough.

15 months sober; I’m not even tempted, when I think about having a drink I recognize that I will feel worse after than I do now so it’s an easy decision. Unfortunately I was hospitalized last month and developed a physical reliance on opiates, used as prescribed for 20 days, quit cold turkey once I was released. Opiate withdrawal was literal hell for about 5 days but I’m feeling better already. I’m excited to get my sobriety streak back!

14 years sober as of yesterday. I had no real reason at the time in my mind to quit, but, everyone who knew me, would strongly agree I needed to stop. For me, it wasn’t easy. Every part of me wanted to take that drink. With time, things go better. My health improved, my outlook on life improved my “performance” in various areas improved. I had to do a LOT more than stop drinking, but, I can tell you, it was worth the effort. It is not my job to tell anyone they are, or are not an alcoholic. If you feel you are, I can tell you what worked for me.

Alcohol contains a fair level of sugar, and a lot of alcohol can mean a lot of sugar. One of the signs of being pre-diabetic is diminishing eyesight. You might have been pre-diabetic and then reverted to normal sugar levels on quitting.

The eyesight? Alcohol relaxes all body parts, including the eye muscles.
It is also a diuretic, and dehydrates the eyes, and the cornea of the eye, as well.

I've been sober for over two months now and I've noticed a lot of the same benefits already, it's really shown me how big a role alcohol was playing in my social life and my weekend routine. I'm noticing a lot of old thoughts and emotions coming up that I can actually let go of for the first time, now that I'm not suppressing them with alcohol. Awesome video, I'd love to see similar content about your health and fitness journey! 😊

Now, I have a girlfriend for whom I'd walk through fire if I had to. We'll be moving in together soon. I quit smoking and drinking januari 1st. I feel amazing right now. Reborn. Life is good.

It took me a while to realize that the constant state of fatigue I was in, was actually caused by me drinking a glass or two of wine or cider like 4/7 days a week.
One day my mom was like 'it's a hangover' and it clicked. I'd always thought a hangover manifests in throwing up and headaches and all.
From that time I don't even crave alcohol cause I see it as nothing other than a fatigue causing agent.
