If one needs a vegetarian meal, just book it ahead of the flight. Singapore Airlines will provide one if requested ahead of time.

i love that the amenity kit is still complimentary, and reducing waste by requiring it to be requested on demand. there is so much unnecessary plastic waste from unused or partly used amenity kits, this is a much better common sense approach.

As far as I know, it is the only airlines, where steward(ess), in economy class will walk you to your seat -- like what some airlines do in the business class. It is one of the best ways to give the best first impression -- and a warm welcome!

was going to say this. I recently flew singapore airlines and was shocked to see the options. You need to select them beforehand online so they can load the meals onboard.
There were 6 children's meal choices:
      Baby Meal
      Post-Weaning Meal
      Child Meal for Infant
      Child MealWestern
      Child Meal Asian
      Child Meal Vegetarian
      And 19 adult choices:
      Hindu Non-Vegetarian Meal
      Kosher Meal
      Kosher Refreshment
      Muslim Meal
      Vegetarian Indian Meal
      Vegetarian Jain Meal
      Vegetarian Oriental Meal
      Vegetarian Vegan Meal
      Vegetarian Lacto-Ovo Meal
      Bland Meal
      Diabetic Meal
      Fruit Platter
      Gluten Intolerant Meal
      Low Fat Meal
      Low Lactose Meal
      Low Salt Meal
      Non-Strict Nut Free Meal
      Seafood Meal

And these are all options on economy too.

i love that the window seats in the economy has the extra side compartment that is built into the fuselage. I was to fly Qantas LAX-MEL and had the very back economy window seat on their A380 but Australia closed their border 1 HOUR prior to bordering (someone facebooked me not to get on the flight). Ended up flying to Oz but an AA Dreamliner from LAX-SYD (premium economy) then a Qantas flight to MEL.

Sadly, the upper deck economy class cabin no longer exists on SQ - all but one of their A380s (the odd one out is still awaiting return to service at the time of writing) will have upper decks comprising suites and business class seats only.

Ahh Fra-JFk that was my first ever Longhaul flight. Back in 2010 my Parents and I visit the East Coast and the start was in New York. At this time this flight was operated bye the 747-400, my favourite plane and its was absolute amazing. Both flights withe The Queen of the Skies were amazing, the crew was so friendly, the food was amazing and they gave me the chance to visit the Cockpit and both pilots explained all quirks and features to me. I will never forget this experience.

Thanks so much! The review was great! I just flew this exact flight to Singapore. For missions trip to Myanmar. Exact everything you said. Really excellent for economy class. The only thing for me was, when I called an agent about seats on the upper deck, I was told the upper deck did not have economy class, when it did show economy class on the seat plan on their page. We got off in Frankfurt and reboarded for Singapore. Thanks again . Excellent review. ...Donna from Virginua USA

The Airport in Singapore is also amazing, only Vancouver airport was even better in my opinion.

I sat on the exact same airplane in the same economy compartment on the exact same side of it as you did. My seat at the window was the only one not having his side compartment.
I didn't know where to put my blanket and pillow since I didn't need it. Then I stowed it into the front pockets and innerly cried bc I'm 1,90m and my legs had no room no more.
Except that the flight was absolutely brilliant. I loved it. Economy wasn't the most comfortable but the service was incredibly good.

I've flown JFK-FRA-SIN-CGK route about twice a year for the past 8 or so years and then switched over to the EWR-SIN-CGK after they reintroduced it. Every time I'm in Frankfurt I'm greeted by a gate agent named Dimitri who hasn't forgotten me. He used to take care of my brother and I when we were unaccompanied minors, now that we've both grown up, Dimitri just lets us hang by the desk talk about life. He gets mad at me every time he sees me go to the smoking lounge, laughs and shows his coworkers the pictures of my shenanigans, and talks about his grandchildren. That's why I love SQ so much, my family has a deep relationship with SQ so far as befriending managers at the airports we frequented and my grandfather being one of the last lifetime Solitaire members. They're the best airline in my opinion, because of the level of service and kindness the staff hold.

SQ is simply amazing! Us older folks always reminisce about the good old days of economy class flying, SQ kind of kept some of the good things like hot towels, menu cards, cheese course in meals, amenity kits, lotions in the bathrooms. Did you find the ride a bit bumpy being at the tail end of the plane? I sat in this cabin many years ago when they first flew A380 and thought it was a touch bumpy. Can’t wait for your next video, David! 😬

Another great video David, and now it is a real highlight every week to see your "Brutally Honest" series. I really do enjoy them. Regarding Singapore Airlines, they have had a consistently high reputation for decades, so they are definitely doing something right. They have built their reputation up over a long time, and will want to protect that.

It was solid for sure, and the bins on the upper deck were great, but I wouldn't say it's the best economy product I've ever had. After all I'd heard about SQ I expected it to be on another level from your typical economy product, but for the most part it was just your typical long-haul economy class.

FYI Philippine Airlines' Manila to JFK flight is the longest aside from Manila to Toronto. They utilise the A350 for the direct MNL-JFK flight. Before, they had a stopover in Vancouver before continuing to New York. From among the SQ and PR serving JFK, only Philippine Airlines has a direct flight to New York.

Some passengers on your flight might be going towards Cebu City & Davao City in Southern Philippines. Because it's kind of useful for them to avoid Manila Congestion on PR. Routing is JFK-FRA-SIN-CEB & JFK-FRA-SIN-DVO that'll actually avoid the problem of taking the direct flight PR 127 JFK-MNL then Domestic MNL-DVO/CEB.

Sadly the return had a substituted 777 from HKG to SIN - noisy, uncomfortable. Can't agree about the lack of vegetarian meal, fish is a vegetable. I'd almost have to call this Premium Economy because of the food and unexpected amenities - except for one thing that was high on some of the expectation lists that you showed at the beginning and you chose to ignore: legroom. Your seat seemed to have typical Economy legroom. Otherwise, this was a better-than-average flight.

    Hi David,
I have flown this route 20/09/2019 and there is a vegetarian option for pax. There is even meal for my dietary restrictions (LF)...all you need to do is to order them at least 48h in ahead of your flight. That's a matter of few click via "manage my booking" ;-)

Vegetarian courses are available from SIN to other Asian Destination and vice versa. But nonetheless I just loved your introduction on why SQ did such a route like SIN-FRK-JFK. That was something I would totally agree. Great job!

Vegeterian option on the menu card? Most passengers would choose the meat option anyway and the rest would be pissed when left with vegetarian option.

Great video David! SIA is a fantastic airline and definitely one of the best TATL! Completely agree with you that this is exactly how the perfect TATL Economy flight should be!
Love those mini economy cabins in the upper deck. Air France has those as well, and I always book that when flying them!

You're so good at explaining things in details to us always !!! Now I know why we don't see many Singapore airlines in the U.S.,although we've got many in L.A. ,but I wish if they do more to fly everywhere as they're very comfy !!! I bet their economy class seats are one of the very bests !!! I used to fly with them in business class ,but now I can't afford it anymore !! Lol. So ,very very interested in their economy class seats !! But ,there aren't that many of 'em fly to my preferred destinations at all !!! I always fly direct to my destinations as well & so ,there is almost none of Singapore airlines going to those from L.A. !!! Ugh !! Sigh 😕 💜🥁🐉🎤✈💞

  • @markusdd5
    @markusdd5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This really goes to show how crappy most of the other transatlantic offerings are. This is a 10 year old product on that plane in Eco and business. The new A380s of SIA are even more amazing.
And beside the hard product, their soft product is very hard to beat on any level. (Hot towels? Real cutlery? Menu Card? Superb crew? --- gotta be a long search for any other Eco class which still offers this...)
Conclusion: If you're on a route where SIA has a flight, take it.
Just recently flew them in Business on their A350 from ARN to SIN .... very memorable experience. (in a good way)

I have flown Sydney to Heathrow return several times. I always feel crammed in like a sardine! They would be first if they'd take out a few rows from each cabin to add a few extra room. 31-32" pitch is incredibly uncomfortable for 13 hour flights! So, in this respect they're far behind JAL & Cathay. Their new business class is cramped, with serious flaws: the need will go flat, but you have to sleep on an angle and place your legs in a tiny compartment which is uncomfortable; only the bulkhead seats will give your a straight, generous bead. This is behind Cathay, JAL and China Airlines.

@JURGEN GJIDIA None of these things makes it "fun" that they are being dismantled. They were ahead of their time. In 20 years time Chinese airlines will want hundreds of aircraft this size and bigger, to service its domestic market. Never mind the rest of Asia. They already fly wide body aircraft today.

FYI, Qantas now holds the world record for the longest non stop flight from New York - Sydney in 19 hours 16 minutes on the 787-9 Dreamliner (Test Flight). It had a restricted passenger and baggage load with absolutely nothing in the cargo hold. But how far could it fly if it was a regular flight?

    • @linachan791
      @linachan791 4 ปีที่แล้ว

That would depend on the season and weather - head winds or tail winds alone would affect the flight's performance. The flight levels, weather conditions enroute are variables. If it's already flying empty in the belly then be prepared to be bumped off an almost empty plane with adverse weather conditions.
