Regarding Premium Economy, it's interesting that there seems to be two different philosophies at different airlines. Some, like Delta and according to your report Singapore, treat it like 'Economy Plus' (i.e. an enhanced economy class). While others, like Air France, treat it like 'Business Minus' (A downgraded/cheaper Business Class). Personally I'm not sure which I prefer when factoring in cost and the overall experience.
That's absolutely true! I personally believe that many airlines got rid of their First Class and significantly improved their Business Class, and the created Premium Economy for the gap in between, so that business travelers would once again pay a premium to have a higher class of service than Economy, since many companies stopped offering their employees business class tickets, so that's a way around that. But you are totally right, the quality of Premium Economy varies significantly across airlines, much more so than in Economy or Business.

@@jakestolar8457 Agree. NZ premium economy is the best by a mile. I think the menu card in premium economy /economy class doesn't very useful, so they cut it. Because there are three options meals that you can get. You easily know what you want to eat.. Since the pandemic, many airlines try to cut unnecessary or not so important products or services, so they can survive. And most importantly is the Safety.. That's all for me.
I disagree. I personally love the menus, not just for aesthetics (although it helps). With such a long flight, you can kind of "plan" your meals in advance and select accordingly. Maybe for example, you want to have a heavier meal, or one with beef, at the start of the flight, and then something lighter later, or vice-versa. Having said that, I saw he had access to the digital version which is a good compromise.

i flew on this route to new york in premium economy, and 18 hours of this seat is too tiring to the point i had to upgrade it to business class on the way back. honestly 18 hours in economy class is hell, and on my flight there was a baby which is super annoying.
I'm still stunned Premium Economy is usually just limited to a few rows on a plane. Extra legroom isn't all I want, I want width and to have service that makes me feel like I'm not a patient at a mental hospital....

In Singapore Changi Airport, it kinda makes sense for the Airport to confine transiting passengers, because in SIN arriving and departing passengers are not seperated (on the same floor) while at HKG you exit the aircraft below the departure level. Probably for the safe measure.
I transit through Singapore back in August. Had a layover of over 9 hrs. After seeing the horrible conditions of the waiting area and only 3 lounges are available to transit passengers, Emirates, Qatar, and Plaza premium in the waiting area. Can confirm Singapore now has a very poor transit arrangement and anyone transiting over night waiting for long hrs might as well book the ambassador airport hotel. I ended up paying for plaza premium lounge as they are doing a promotion now.

Always love the brutally honest videos and is nice to see it done on my home airline. Maybe would like to note that the 738s are temporary additions to the fleet as they are aiming for the MAX to re enter service and they will have IFEs installed and the hot towel service from what i read from articles will be back once the pandemic is stabilised. Thanks for the video though it was very nice!
I know that I’m replying 8 months after the videos release, but even now I think that Singapore Airlines has been massively affected by COVID. Singapore itself is so incredibly strict with COVID rules even now, and I think that things like hot towels will be seen as too ‘unsanitary’ by Singapore Airlines. In a few years they will be a lot better I’m sure

Changi was ranked third behind Tokyo Haneda...based on this review I can see why they dropped I will say, their safety vid ending in the Gardens by the Bay at 9:15 is a nice touch, it is definitely the most stunning part of the country

Glad you had a wonderful experience flying on Singapore Airlines, being an employee at JFK airport, I have been inside the A350-900ULR cabin and other airlines’ aircraft. I’d say the cabin is pretty nice. But the premium economy on the A350-900ULR feels more like an economy plus not premium economy. Also I do see a few familiar faces when you arrived at JFK with the SQ JFK airport team.
A That's 14 years ago B you didn't mention the airline C you didn't mention what the "torture" was. Context is important. For reference I flew from LA to Hong Kong on Cathay, and it was a far better experience than *any domestic* (US based) airline to anywhere in any length. Even a short flight like LA to Phoenix just seems like a hassle. (For context; American to Barcelona was ok (ground service when returning was atrocious,) Air France, KLM, British Airways were very nice, Qatar was surprisingly underwhelming (most recent, but I was going to my fathers funeral so that might have colored my experience) Lufthansa was adequate. But anytime i've flown a domestic airline international, other than my one trip to Barcelona, i've been extremely disappointed.) Enough to where i'd drive/ ride my motorcycle once a month to Phoenix to go see mum, rather than fly.

@@SKS8080 Somtimes economy was the only ticket available. Being a Status member on American Airlines Gave me the opportunity to upgrade to business for a very reasonable fee if any were available, and I always did. @@Vortex__24 This was all pre-Covid Vortex, so a while ago. If I remember correctly, Economy was around $1,200 round trip and a $450 charge for upgrade to business; well worth it in my opinion. I am Platinum Pro status on American, I honestly don’t know if it would be different without that rating.
Looks like a great flight! It's tough to tell from the video, but I would be a little disappointed if that was the premium economy legroom on a long haul flight. Many carriers are introducing larger seats with way more legroom on international premium economy. I don't mind the missing menu card with the virtual ones, and the snack selection is great for me. No need for designer snacks, just something substantial.
Air New Zealand used to have their Spacepod premium economy but they scrapped it sadly. Not everyone was a fan though; they had no legrests and passengers were given bean bags to plop their feet on 😳
Not sure what airline you’re referring to but SIA’s Premium Economy Seats are far the best from most European and US carriers and it’s very competitive amongst Asian and Middle East carriers. Even before discussing the service and added amenities, SIA also provides unlimited delectables on these flights in addition to book the cook option. Legroom is seat width is actually US domestic first class level. I’ve been on these flights a couple of times I can tell you, it’s far more comfortable than it shows.
@@thejuanderers2342 the unlimited delectables that you claimed are obvious what's shown on the video, low quality stuff that you will see on UA and AA long haul economy
@@rawasianchicago Yes, but an AA flight will pull away from the gate without those low quality stuff amenities, and not even think twice. When it comes to US flag carriers it's all about operating a flight at the lowest possible cost with the least amount of effort. Our US airline service sucks, and frankly, it's not as if any of them (AAL, UAL and DAL), really try.
Not sure saying a flight fails expectations on entertainment just because the inflight entertainment isn’t built into the plane is fair. All that hardware adds a-lot of weight to the aircraft driving up fuel costs and ticket costs. If you can get to all the movies and music via your own device that still means entertainment is offered.
Singapore Changi Airport had a mega COVID cluster. Moreover there were cases of COVID 19 among transiting passengers which is why they aren't allowed to intermingle.
Precisely! Just because you didn't like the previous experience, doesn't mean that you can downgrade it by your own standards and then call it "regular economy".
I just bought a ticket for this flight in a few months and I really appreciate having this in depth review of what it's like. I've done my share of long flights but this is definitely something else so I'm glad to get an idea of what I'm in for. Thank you!

I'm glad they separated the transiting passengers because one of my friends was an airport staff and was infected during the last covid cluster at that airport. Commendable for their effort in minimizing risk. Anyways, flying is a privilege for many people due to new borders closers and this new variant. Better be safe than sorry.

The fact that after such a long ass flight the flight attendant took an interest in your filming and showed you the business class seat and gave you the insider update on the fleet when you DEPLANED is really sonething. It shows his pride of working there and dedication to promoting SQ.
Glad you enjoyed our Singapore Airlines inflight service. One MAJOR disadvantage is that if the flight is empty, you cannot lie down as the handrests are fixed. For that, I would prefer a regular economy of any other carrier.
Im checking almost everyday in the radar if that flight is on air and i always wondered how it is flying for almost 19 hours . So , heres the answer i was looking for . Thank you for that upload!
David I Think you made an error in deciding to review this product as an economy experience. If a product is sold as Premium Economy it should be judged and held to that standard!
Tbh I don't see the absence of paper menus as a problem, if you can access them via phone or IFE. The two hot meals look awesome, plus the last service also. The flight in itself does not feel so long indeed. Great report!
Hi! As a singaporean, I’d like to defend the rant about being confined at a specific location. Unfortunately, in May 2021, Singapore experienced the largest and active cluster coming from within Changi Airport. This cluster has prompted an Investigation, which found that there were no segregation between high risk and low risk passengers, consequently, causing covid to spread to the airport staff and into the community. Thus, it was necessary to confine to a specific area while waiting for a transit flight. However, I strongly agree that it is a great disappointment and unacceptable to see litters everywhere and vending machine badly stocked.
18hrs flight? Omg that is amazing David. I am very sure this flight would have had 3 different sets of pilots flying it, each at the controls for 6 hrs...amazing.
I really enjoyed this report! I think this is the first trip report, (Brutally Honest or regular), in which my home town of Toronto was mentioned TWICE!! You over flew it, and also mentioned a trip on Air France from Toronto to Paris! As much as I enjoy these reports, I trust you guys are being very cautious protecting yourselves from Covid. I would hate to hear that one of you contracted it. Please, for all your fans, stay safe!!
I took this flight, SA premium economy, for 19hours. It was much better than flying economy. But obviously not as good as flying business with the fully flat seat. The legroom was good and food was excellent!
Greetings from Bogota - Colombia, excellent video and very clear, your comments are very clear. Thank you for posting it. It is a flight that one day I will do.
Liked the review, and completely agree with you re Changi airport, but I thought the comparison of PE to economy was a little harsh. Certainly meal choice is more limited (no expanded menu that you can pre-book like the pre-covid days), and the snacks are dull, but everything else (crew, luggage, legroom, entertainment, seat) seems the equal of other airlines PE product, with the possible exception of JAL. And no hot towels is 100% a health measure.
The cheapest you can actually get on the world's longest flight is something like $800-1200 with a tagged destination via Singapore Changi Airport. for example, Newark to Manila via Singapore Changi, which will come out cheaper in some cases with the competitor on that market JFK-MNL Philippine Airlines.
Just flew thru Changi yesterday from BKK and on to Jakarta. Transit passengers were free to wander throughout the terminal and several eateries were open. SQ flights were wonderful in economy. If any carrier to fly 19 hours, it would be SQ- thanks for your great report. By the way, worthwhile to mention there is an extensive menu online for advance order catering to special diets. I found the current economy food boxes on short flights very tasty. I think the lack of menu cards and hot towels will appear again once covid situation allows. 😊✈
Yeah, I always advice ordering the special diet meals - they have a good selection on SQ and you get served first! Once on a flight to Manila I was presented with a steak meal while the normal choices was the usual chicken/beef/fish options. Not bad for economy!
1:49 well what do you expect , it just came to SIA . And Domestic Routes is getting busier , it will have no time for them to change new seats and new IFE system
From what i’ve heard, menu cards were not given out as it kinda wastes resources which i agree with, as honestly in economy it’s a nice touch but not really necessary as u have 3 choices and it’s not much of a use. Hot towels ive heard is to minimise contact between crew and passenger due to covid and stuff like that
"I have not been that excited for a flight in a very long time because today we are flying 19h on a single flight" Yes, you are absolutely bonkers to be excited about that.
This flight is not new. In early 2000s the flight was 19 1/2 hrs long. 400 dollars more than the standard eastern route to USA. Executive Economy class and it ran for 3 or 4 years. Loved it!! SIA is the best world airlines imho.
I travel around 150 or more flights per year for work internationally and Singapore Airlines used to be a premium airline but long since has that gone, even though if you are in business or first class they are very good . Emirates are in a league of there own , and Qatar followed by between Singapore and Qantas international , then probably Delta or Japan Airlines. I travel 80 percent business international, maybe 15 percent first and 5 percent economy, but all the flying is at others expense and I would rather not have to fly so much full stop , but you do notice the quality of staffing and the pride in work that is instilled in those airlines. No one like travelling so far for so long , my longest per year is probably Melbourne Australia to London with one stop in either Singapore or Daubi for just over an hour and that works out at nearly 24 hours or more with only an hour on the ground. If the staff are wonderful that's what makes the difference as most people are on the edge of tolerance on a flight that long . Lol
@TheTpanative actually I'm transiting through Singapore. Changes meaning either from New York or my final destination being Manila as they are placing new restrictions due to this new variant. Either way it's gonna be a long 6 days for me. Appreciate the reply though. Stay safe
@Jagdpanther Changi is still a clean and wonderful airport. You have to remember its still the era of Covid and things aren't what we all expect. As for the water bottles left and rubbish on seats, this just come down to people's rudeness and disrespect.
PreCovid they would let you roam the whole airport in Singapore. Also they don't give menu because Singapore has very strict rules against COVID, so I think this is the reason, plus I think many of us prefer to have the menu on the phone. I have had a 15 h flight from Kuala Lumpur to London via Malaysian Airlines and the trip in the A350 is amazing, beating all other aircrafts I have been on.

6:45 oooooh T3 B7 was the exact same gate I departed from last month on my SWISS A340 flight to Zürich!!!! Wow

In such a big, well designed and attractive airport it didn't have to be so shabby, cramped and dirty though.
The range of the A350-900ULR is insane, only the 777-8 and 777-200LR are close

Always love the brutally honest videos and is nice to see it done on my home airline. Maybe would like to note that the 738s are temporary additions to the fleet as they are aiming for the MAX to re enter service and they will have IFEs installed and the hot towel service from what i read from articles will be back once the pandemic is stabilised. Thanks for the video though it was very nice!
No menu cards and not handing of hot towels (though it's a signature of SQ) is a good covid prevention strategy imo
Exactly! This vlogger is clueless. Need more education. Thumbs down for the boring video also.

Glad you had a wonderful experience flying on Singapore Airlines, being an employee at JFK airport, I have been inside the A350-900ULR cabin and other airlines’ aircraft. I’d say the cabin is pretty nice. But the premium economy on the A350-900ULR feels more like an economy plus not premium economy. Also I do see a few familiar faces when you arrived at JFK with the SQ JFK airport team.
Atlanta airport gate T17 to runway 27R during rush hour is also a long haul.
In 2008, I flew non-stop 17 hours from Los Angeles to Bangkok in coach on an A340-500! It was torture and I'll never do it again.
A That's 14 years ago
B you didn't mention the airline
C you didn't mention what the "torture" was.
But anytime i've flown a domestic airline international, other than my one trip to Barcelona, i've been extremely disappointed.)
Enough to where i'd drive/ ride my motorcycle once a month to Phoenix to go see mum, rather than fly.
@@monunyabidness5949 I am pretty sure he meant Singapore airlines & torture was that long hour flight !! I had done it back in the early 80's, to Europe from Japan ,17 ,or 18 hr trip ,it killed me !! It brings me the memory of SQ891, the crew was nice and humorous. He asked me to buy the whole plane instead of the A350 model🤣
My longest flight is LAX to SYD in Australia, about 15 hours. I have done it in premium economy and business. A HUGE difference. Business (obviously) was a much more comfortable flight, being able to lie flat and sleep like in a normal bed was awesome. When I arrived I felt no jet lag whatsoever, was ready to go.
Were u cheap?
@@SKS8080 Somtimes economy was the only ticket available. Being a Status member on American Airlines Gave me the opportunity to upgrade to business for a very reasonable fee if any were available, and I always did. If there were business class then I had the premium economy seats, which were not too bad.
@@sdcoinshooter If you don't mind me asking, what type of ticket prices are we talking here ?
I love that he actually reviews economy. The class that we all fly
Singapore Changi Airport had a mega COVID cluster. Moreover there were cases of COVID 19 among transiting passengers which is why they aren't allowed to intermingle.
No matter what criteria you used, I still believe if they're selling it as "Premium Economy", it's fair it should be reviewed that way.
Precisely! Just because you didn't like the previous experience, doesn't mean that you can downgrade it by your own standards and then call it "regular economy".
Took this flight years ago. Woke up in middle of the night and checked location. We were flying over Afghanistan. Went back to sleep.
I just bought a ticket for this flight in a few months and I really appreciate having this in depth review of what it's like. I've done my share of long flights but this is definitely something else so I'm glad to get an idea of what I'm in for. Thank you!
I flew round trip EWR-SIN-BKK (SQ21-22) on premium economy 41C seat almost 3 years ago. I was fun experience. I will fly again JFK-SIN-BKK in business class to try with miles of course (sq23-24) next month. Can’t wait.

Yeah I agree the award winning menu card or booklet is something greatly missed but it is due to covid19...the idea being whether one agrees or disagree is to minimise contact...anyways I also agree our snacks are sadly too minimal. I would have tot some fruits would be great on a long haul flight...trust me if you have flown SQ in the 80s and 90s it is like first class lol...have a blessed holiday season and keep safe...cheers
Next to an 11-day trans-Siberian first class journey, flying for more than 15 hours is number two on my bucket list 😍
Nice aviation footage. The flight is ultra long.
the transit in Changi is now nearly as post covid. 2 lounges also open.

Tbh I don't see the absence of paper menus as a problem, if you can access them via phone or IFE. The two hot meals look awesome, plus the last service also. The flight in itself does not feel so long indeed. Great report!
Btw the longest official flight is actually between Newark - Singapore not Singapore - JFK
There like the same distance lol😂

Wow Singapore Airlines still on another level despite the Pandemic.
One of the best reviews about Singapore Airlines I have ever seen. Excellent vlog. Thank you.
kinda glad to know the reality that somewhere might be mess in changi airport, allow me to prepare for that
The cheapest you can actually get on the world's longest flight is something like $800-1200 with a tagged destination via Singapore Changi Airport. for example, Newark to Manila via Singapore Changi, which will come out cheaper in some cases with the competitor on that market JFK-MNL Philippine Airlines.
I took this flight 2 weeks ago too! Love seeing the different food served on the same flight!
Hey there thanks so much for the honest review during COVID! Also thank you for using Singapore Airlines!
On July 7, 2004 I flew on Singapore Airlines A-340 from Newark airport (EWR) to Singapore. It was then the World's longest flight.
I just travelled with Singapore airlines' business from Melbourne to Singapore. It was great.

This flight is not new. In early 2000s the flight was 19 1/2 hrs long. 400 dollars more than the standard eastern route to USA. Executive Economy class and it ran for 3 or 4 years. Loved it!! SIA is the best world airlines imho.
Singapore Airline is a best choice for a long flight because we have many entertainment film or game to play during the longest flight
Lol
