    This is such vital information Sean~ I couldn't hardly wait to show my husband! We both gained *40-50 lbs in our early 50's, even though we had always worked out & eaten so-called "healthy"~ pfffft! We've educated ourselves since then & have been eating meat & small amts of fermented foods these past few yrs, as well as changing how/when/why we exercise.
    We are now focused on optimal health & longevity, & just recently my husband was bemoaning the fact that he still cannot "see" his abs, but can sure feel them~ he's worked so hard at getting back into shape & was frustrated. As always, your teaching has broadened our understanding on the matter, & I'm so grateful for it~ THANK YOU!

Maybe I'll take another picture & do a split screen thumbnail so people can see what's possible~ there's a good idea!

    1/23 226lbs 5'9" started Ketovore eating 1/2cup sour kraut and or pickles with fermented blue cheese olives for my fermented foods followed by 4-6oz of meat 80/20 ground beef or roasted chicken then trace carbs in the form of avocado or guacamole with a little caso fresco cheese or sour cream then a very small amount of pineapple 50-80g worth for the Bromelain (digestive enzyme), Polyphenols, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. as of this morning 209lbs!! with dark purple ketone strips every morning. I feel like the order of the food is super important... fermented food first... protein (meats) then fats (avocado etc..) and lastly any trace carbs (the pineapple) so far no more indigestion or heartburn or any IBS symptoms. I was waking up routinely at 4am sicker than a dog and most times would vomit and then feel drained. None of that nonsense now, sleeping through the night without waking up to pee four hundred times or getting sick. My stomach fat seems like it's not changed so I am hopeful the weight I have lost is mostly visceral, this is my hunch... It would make sense that the body would want to rid itself of that bad fat first then go after deep subcutaneous etc... THANK you DOC OMara !!! I've learned so much from you over the last few years. • @MoonSpyStudios
      @MoonSpyStudios 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I agree Dr. Sean. I think people should not fear insulin as a boogieman, it's actually a very important hormone. It's like blaming the firemen for starting fires just because every time you show up to report the news... there they are... so they must be the ones starting it right? You just want to avoid chronically elevated insulin. @@DrSeanOMara

    • @AncestralFuel
      @AncestralFuel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MoonSpyStudiosI am not sure I agree that fasting insulin is not that important. When I went on keto 10 years ago, my insulin dropped from 16 to 7. A functional doctor put me on testosterone (due to sky high SHBG) and my fasting insulin dropped to 2.5 and it has stayed in that range (test every 6 months) for the last 7 years. I think the bottom line is that- the lower the insulin - the lower is insulin resistance. I think that the reason it is underrated as a metric (95% of docs don’t check it) is because it would reveal that nearly 90% of individuals would be declared to be insulin resistant. And, doctors don’t have got to pill to fix that issue.
      If your body can perform all of its blood sugar management duties with the smallest amount of insulin, then that is a good thing.
      Since 40% of cancers are obesity related, many cancer researchers are theorizing that insulin is the culprit due to its anabolic role in cell growth. That said, I don’t want to have 2x of 3x or 5x (which most Americans have) of insulin when my body can get the job done with a minimal amount of fasting insulin (2-3).
      I think the research into the impact of excess insulin is still in its infancy. Too short of time to conclude that low insulin levels are not that important. Hence, I keep mind low, which Dr OMara’s recommended diet will accomplish due to its low demand for insulin production.
      I think the fireman metaphor is useful for those that claim high LDL causes heart disease - as it has been used many times - it is not a good metaphor for insulin because LDL is mostly something that the liver does based on its assessment of what the body needs, while insulin production is directly tied our lifestyle/diet.

      @darkfieldcarnivore3928 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I've noticed that if I stand in place and jump vertically as hard as I can repeatedly without pausing in between jumps, I get as winded as I do sprinting rather quickly. The evolutionary component of sprinting makes sense to me (running from danger, nothing could be more important) which is why I think the body is optimized through sprinting. I suspect, however, that max-exertion jumping, as if you are jumping for your life, might offer the same or similar benefits. Ever try it?

      You may be suffering from environmental toxins, a urine collection test can find out. These days, chelation therapy is no longer the only route to eliminate toxins. My husband and I just had this test, his results showed lead in the top 5 (exposure to paint in old houses, lead pipes ditto, and breathing fumes from car exhaust as children would do it; glyphosate in top 10. My results not back yet.
      Have scheduled Zoom meeting to discuss results with doctor. He uses plasma exchange to remove toxins; much faster and more effective than chelation. You might google to see if it’s available in your area.
      In the meantime, you might try taking MCT oil at bedtime (it’s also a laxative). I’m no expert, but Dr Gundry suggests starting with 1/2 tsp and working up to 1 TBSP. You really need to ensure sleep-the lack of it can undermine one’s health!

      Well thank you. Sadly most people need stimulus, visual engagement to keep on a video. If a video is not engaging enough TH-cam measures the low engagement and won’t share. I am trying to spread awareness so torn between reaching more and trying to just deliver optimal information. It’s a really hard balance. This video is a redo with these edits added. I am going to compare it to the original without the added in imagery with just me talking to see what is more popular. I’ll be re-releasing another video with added in edits. Despite my best efforts my content is not popular and not hardly growing after five years.

    I am studying my metabolism. Thanks for good information.
    I am looking for how to stimulate a hormone, that kids have, when they run out of the class.
    How to get that same enthusiastic feeling first thing in the morning: I want to run or swim or gym.
    I found it with music: everyday I practice hours like a kid with new toy, for seven years now.
    Sitting six years in same guitar playing position, degenerated lots of muscles.
    One year ago I realized I have to add some sports to my practicing, otherwise I’ll be soon like 100 years old with joint pains and inflammated tendons.
    Is difficult to find a joy off running, but if I figure out, how to run like energetic kid, my health problems are solved. 1 -2 hour happy sporting every day, where else could it lead but total health.

    Dr. Sean, I always appreciated the no-baloney style of your earlier videos, where you spoke about the topics and showed photos and slides from your practice. The practice of interspersing stock footage of people exercising, cheeseburgers, body parts, groups of people doing nothing in particular appropo of what you're lecturing about, adds a layer of hypnotic BS that I personally find obnoxious. If it gets your videos more views then it's a net positive, because more people should hear your important message. But I appreciate and prefer the more straightforward style of your earlier videos.

    that’s a good question. I think the sequence would be: due mostly to carb consumption, blood sugar rises, the pancreas is called upon to produce insulin, the beta cells then produce enough insulin to pull down blood sugar to normal levels, then insulin gets about the business of pulling down BS and storing access energy in muscles and liver and then to fat stores. Due to individual differences, some store less as visceral fat, some store a-lot and then there is everything in between. So, while visceral fat requires carbs (glucose), carbs don’t always create visceral fat. Which is why it is best to keep the diet ancestral-based, mostly red meat- to keep VF low.
    What comes first? Elevated blood sugar, then insulin, then fat.

    Dr Sean, I love that this lifestyle is working for you. However, I do have a few concerns about the "high fat" dietary approach, especially as it pertains to saturated fat and don't get me wrong, it is my favorite fat among the other fats: It's less prone to oxidation compared to PUFAs, even MUFAs (and forget about Transfats).
    Still, consumed in the quantities recommended in carnivory, I am afraid of some serious consequences to FMD (Flow Mediated Dilation) of our circulatory system - and no, I am not talking about cholesterol.
    Concern #1: It's been shown (with video proof) that the dramatically increased blood viscosity from the consumption of high enough fat post-prandially can last for up to 10 hours, and the capillary bed in particular suffers. Red Blood Cell and Platelette Zeta Potential is compromized, causing them to "stick" together, preventing them from penetrating all the tissues supplied by the capillary beds. This can lead to hypoxia. In addition, fat itself has been shown to decrease Flow-Mediated Dilation (hamper nitric oxide expression of endothelial cells), which while *transient*, when repeated a number of times, can cause CAC scores to rise, and this has been the case with a number of "carnivore celebrities" like Raymond Mazon and Steak & Butter Gal. Decelerated CAC rise, sure, compared to their SAD days, but a rise nonetheless: *Endothelial damage is still being done!*
    Concern #2: In the body's attempt to create glucose out of fat and protein (gluconeogenesis), cortisol needs to go up. Way up. This, added to the *already high-cortisol lifestyle* civilization forces us to live, due to EMF and chemical exposure, daily stressors, keeping up with the bills, the Jones's, family matters, running a business, and on and on and on the list goes. Already, I see signs of sarcopenia on a number of "carnivore celebrities" like Kelly Hogan and Maria Emmerich.
    Concern #3: In the same way that some fish in the ocean have within their systems concentrated amounts of contaminants, like mercury, a lot of ruminants whose flesh is sold in supermarkets et al, are fed (and are physically exposed) to industrial chemicals as well. Even monocropped feedlock is industrially produced, and almost certainly contain chemical contaminants that wind up getting concentrated in the fats and tissues of the cattle (especially cows) that we consume. Are you not concerned with all that?
    I have no expectations for you to answer, only that hopefully you won't delete my comment. These are just expressions of concern which, granted, could potentially be mitigated by "high circulation pressure" activities like sprinting, which you recommend. Still, they are concerns nonetheless.
    Sincerely,
    - Arman

    • @DrSeanOMara
      @DrSeanOMara  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I would not delete your comment. I love science but prioritize above what some science study shows or some “ videography “ what I see happens to humans. Health is foremostly for me and I tell my clients: How you LOOK & how you PERFORM. If you want to prioritize FMD over the above what I favor you risk that x number of hrs later that the same sat fat later produces a larger compensatory FMD. I am theorizing this to make the point that science is more much more than what we can see or measure by technology. Instead I advocate relying on your senses to evaluate how to live by using my definition of health relying on appearance and performance. It’s all our ancestors had and did and they always optimized until we started abandoning our senses for technology. Not this physician though. Dont give much worry over FMD if I can out sprint an average 30 yr old when i am 60 and i look healthy enough for people to try what i recommend. 👊

      Most people have round faces and fat throats because they’re 22% - 40% body fat and higher. They also most likely have sleep apnea because of their fat faces and throat area.
      America is a country of mostly obese unhealthy people, so when someone gets into good condition 10-12% body fat, all the fat unhealthy people think they look unhealthy but that’s a crock!! They’re just used to seeing round fat people most of the time and they think that’s the way people should look.
      We don’t have to have every wrinkle filled in with fat!!
      IMO, round fat faces and bodies are the most unattractive and if so many people would lose weight, they wouldn’t need that C-PAP machine and annoying mask. But then their sleep specialists wouldn’t be making a fortune off all the fat people, and you don’t have to be obese to give yourself sleep apnea. 20% body fat can give you that annoying condition. The trouble is, most sleep doctors won’t tell you that because they wanna get paid for prescribing the C-PAP and mask. And most people have no idea what their body fat % is anyway! The doctors don’t want to talk about that. And if you want an accurate body fat test. It’s expensive and insurance doesn’t pay for it! Those cheap scales at home and the gyms are not accurate. They have built in percentages based on someone’s age. A 60 year old person can have the actual body fat % of 10% but the home and gym scales will bump up the numbers just because of the age.
      Americas health system is so jacked up!! Thank heavens for doctors like Dr O’mara!! 🙏👍🏼

    As a 73-yo female, I enjoy working out and I enjoy having a decent set of biceps. But when I see women with a six-pack, to me it does not look natural or healthy. I know I need to lose fat, especially visceral fat, but I personally think that for optimal health, a woman should not try to go lower than 20% body fat, especially a mature woman.
    That said, there’s no imminent danger of that for me; on the contrary, I’m working on losing fat.
    Dr. Sean, I want to sprint but can barely walk 1/3 mile outside before breathing becomes difficult and my lower back pain builds up to the point that I just don’t want to take any more pain. On the treadmill, I have worked up to .92 of a mile, not exceeding 3 mph. If I am pushing myself to continue to increase, I’m on the edge of what I can do. Sean, it's only unhealthy if your chasing it, mate. Original images of Australian aboriginal men clearly showed stomach muscle definition. It comes down to your access to food. If it's seasonal, a protective layer is required for the scarce times, if it's abundant, as it was for the Australian aborigines(and for us now), a protective layer is not required. Perfectly logical physiological response to species appropriate food availability and consistency.

      I don't pretend to understand everything about this but I have dieted and worked my ass off and finally got a 6 pack. Now they tell me it's bad? Are NFL wide receivers in poor health? Are marathon runners in bad health? I'm not understanding this.

      I don't know you and will never meet you so I have no reason to lie. I'm 61 and on my third year of a body recomp. It's a long story. I now do 300 setups every other day with 50 pounds on my chest followed by 100 more with 60 pounds. I then do 2 sets of 100 rep leg lifts so I feel I have earned and am proud of my 6 pack and so is the wife of 40 years. It just bothers me to think I'm wasting my time.@@darkfieldcarnivore3928

    • @DrSeanOMara
      @DrSeanOMara  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you might be missing the point. You want some not a lot. A modest layer. Those with a modest are healthy. Younger are more active usually outdoors more and have not disrupted their microbiomes as much as older humans.

    • @michelgentilini7314
      @michelgentilini7314 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually not at all. As you noted, if a modest layer is protective in some way, it's because we have degraded our optimal state. Younger people look more ideally shaped, not so because they eat differently, but mostly because years of abuse are often needed to slowly become metabolically dysfunctional. In other words, a thin layer of fat is protective for a body that has not yet returned to its optimal state.@@DrSeanOMara

      doc it would have been soooo much easier for you just to say healthy body fat level, lean but not absurd lean as you can have a 6 pack with 4% or 10%. I have 10-12% and at times it's been 7 or 8 in the summer time, I don't see the problem. Maybe sub 5-6% you have to start eating more. But even then not really, take a look at @gregogallagher who maintains hormones, sex drive etc being ultra lean. If you eat right sprint sleep lift it's almost impossible not to have abs@@DrSeanOMara
